Ok so for Disco Elysium I see so many people talk about it

But so much of it is about what sounds like the saddest wettest man ever?? And I can’t tell if this game is actually hopeful or if it’s all aboard the despair train.

But since you suggested it: what is it you enjoy about it?

Wether its hopeful or not depends on how you play it but it has really beautiful and poetic moments both sad and hopeful 😭 so its more than just showcasing your protagonist as a wet pathetic man (which he is)

I got a really nice ending myself and im pretty sure it's the most common one

And yeah its like, really funny not gonna lie. Really cool dialoge and pretty interesting world building too for something honestly not that long

I love talking about Disco Elysium with others (esp my friends!), but by god. sometimes I take very real moral damage as we discuss the politics and future of the setting.

God it really is so dreary. All I want is to imagine these people in a better life, but how can you handle your own happiness in a shithole run by a political body that could wipe you out whenever? I can’t even come up with a feasible solution because HOW would you even REFORM the government like that!!! and I don’t typically delve into politics so my understanding is very limited!!

God nevermind the character analysis. Who is ever a good person in that game? Is it possible to be one completely in a setting like this? Racism in otherwise likable people, dont even get me started on our RCM cop colleagues...

But maybe thats just what this game is about! Confronting us with harsh reality that’s meant to be a mirror of real life. God I know the story is all ‘enjoy that youre alive, help your community, find little joys’ but does it matter if I do? Sure it helps in real life because youre not meant to burden yourself with things much bigger than you; but I just!!! argh!! I want to be able to help these little fictional people!!!! its so bleak and I feel so small!!!!

one of the big things gay culture did is the appreciation of femininity... as art and work and performance... and just. to me its the fact that femininity lives in gay culture comfortably and free. it doesnt feel secondary, inferior, a second option, a subcategory. it doesnt feel unserious, thats the biggest thing. my existence doesnt feel unserious. idk i am not done with my feelings on this but i genuinely think so much pain and confusion hangs around femininity, still, bc of longstanding patriarchy, its floating around in the air, its deep roots in any and every system. its in very big part this that made me uncomfortable w my gender in my teens. its hard to save over traditional femininity in cishet context and preserve its genuine value while eradicating its secondary, inferior, serving the other, being unnecessary for running the world kind of reception. its no wonder so many straight girls too are drag race fans.

this toxic work ethic of ‘even if uve got a little bit of a cough or cold come in’ or ppl being proud that they have never had a sick day is all well and good until ppl with chronic illness come along who have crappy immune systems that isnt their fault but now they r subjected to a work environment where they try to come in so they u know… dont get fired and then have to work around sick people and then get sick and obviously dont recover as quickly as everyone else does and cant exactly ‘power thru it’ like cheers bc i actually had plans and things to do but ofc no that one person had to come in with just a little bit of a cough and now the whole workplace has it and some of us are struggling as it is.
