i know were long past the pitching our own versions of scooby doo tumblr phase but like if i could write/direct just one single piece of scooby doo media i would do an episode (based on the original like 60s/70s run or thereabouts) where the gang is investigating rumors of vampires lurking around a certain abandoned manor or smth on the outskirts of a small superstitious rural town. pretty standard stuff. they hear about the supposed vampire sightings and decide to investigate. its all going pretty normal until they actually spot one, shrouded in shadow at first, and see them turn into a bat and take flight before their very eyes! its a real vampire!
so this huge bat is swooping and screeching at them and everyones flipping out running all helter skelter but then she transforms again and shaggy and scoob suddenly just. stop.
after a sec shaggy starts to laugh. the rest of the gang is like oh god the vampire did something to him or idk maybe he finally got so scared something in his mind just snapped but shaggy is just like lol guys its ok its just sibella.
and sibella is now fully revealed to be a like young teen lookin vampire girl, a little older than she appeared in ghoul school but def still recognizable. and shes super psyched to see her old teachers again and theyre all like catching up (this so called abandoned house is actually her extended familys vacation home (its their first vacation in a century or so and its fallen into a bit of disrepair ok) and shes visiting with them) meanwhile the rest of the gang is like ????
and shaggys like what? i told you guys about that time i took that job as a gym teacher at that creepy boarding school where the kids were all little monsters
and velmas like ............we thought you were being hyperbolic
and daphne and fred are just like EVERYBODY SHUT UP MONSTERS ARE REAL?? FOR REAL??? NOT JUST OLD DUDES IN COSTUMES???
and shaggy says uh yeah did you guys not think monsters were real? like weve been sayin..
and velma says smth like what are you talking about? every time weve investigated some supernatural phenomenon its always been a guy in costume, how could you possibly have deduced from that that monsters are real??
and shaggys just like .......velma my best friend is a whole Talking Dog

I know we all like to joke around about how ironic it is that William Afton (a murderer who wears a costume) is played by Matthew Lillard (Shaggy’s live action actor), but I’m surprised a similar connection wasn’t given to the rest of the Mystery gang ~
Tumblr media
Like, we’ve got Daphne (usually played by Grey Griffin) as the masked thief Catwoman
Tumblr media
And we’ve got Fred/Scooby (usually played by Frank Weller) as a Gorilla who disguised himself as Patrick
Tumblr media
So in conclusion: the mystery gang has become the very thing they’ve come to destroy

Wait scrappy is bonded to one of the gang right?
Which one is it? Or is it all of them. Personally I hoping it's Fred.
This is a fun story actually!
Back before the gang were all romantically together the entire Rogers clan was keeping an eye on Scrapy to see who he would bond with. There were no Rogers of bonding age for him to pair with so they all thought he was destined to be a Doo by adoption (when someone gains a Doo by being adopted into the Rogers clan) or a Doo by Marriage (where a Doo bonds with a non-Roger that is destined to marry into the family).
When I tell you Shaggy was Struggling™ because it looked like he was going to bond with Fred (he even started coping his speech patterns and saying “treasure” like that) only to turn around and attach his tiny puppy self to Daphne for months only to turn around again and go with Velma to her NASA internship as emotional support…
Let’s say Shaggy was very confused and just a bit frustrated.
But it turned out to be just the curiosity and friendliness of young puppies. Scrappy has found his Rogers not that long ago in 2011 when they found Cousin Steve on that iceberg.

ok, been thinking about Vincent Van Ghoul (as one does) and been thinking about how Mystery Inc. absolutely BUTCHERED his character. This man was not mysterious, serious or magical. He was just dramatic and annoying. And yes, Vincent is dramatic, but mysterious dramatic, not annoying dramatic. But, anyways.
I just don't like one of my favourite characters being done dirty like that so we're back with rewriting media I don't like :).
So my thoughts were along the lines of his horror movie stuff has something to do with Nekara, and some of the other demons. Maybe he was trying to stop her and one thing led to another and boom, now you're an actor and Vincent doesn't know how he got here, but being rich and famous is actually a somewhat good position to be in when you're looking for really obscure stuff. It's also good protection against some of the demons who don't want to be found. Then the essay contest.
What if Vincent was getting bored of waiting and decided to bring the demons to his front door? What if the essay contest was just him saying "yes, an evening with me - totally alone in my remote mansion where the power and security cameras fail regularly. And I would never bring weapons magic or otherwise to such a gathering of course not. Just me. Alone. In my mansion. Totally defenceless. If any demons - cough, cough - I mean fans want to hang out"
He doesn't expect anyone to actually write in. And if they do he'll just move the date inconspicuously. But apparently his producer didn't get the memo because now there are two teenagers and a dog outside his house when he's expecting thirteen of the most horrifying demons to ever walk the mortal plane to show up.
Long story short, the kids end up saving him and put one of the demons back in the chest. They decide to help him with the other 12, but not tell Velma and Fred just yet bc they want to break the whole thing to them gently.
This would obviously change how the series goes, hopefully for the better - with Vincent acting as the kids' desperately needed responsible adult.

listen the new scooby doo live action can be 10x better than Riverdale if they just have scooby talking. first episode and no on is questioning it.
There's no device showing that this is how he talks. no this dog is just talking like a person and no one thinks it's weird
i'll watch the whole thing if they do that

You know just seeing all the talks about Scooby Doo reboots and re-watchin the old movies and shows, got me thinking on things I'd like to see in a remake, 'adult' or otherwise.
I'd love to see a Scooby Doo where it's a healthy mix of both the monsters are people in rubber masks and tricked out costumes and Werewolves, vampires, zombies and ghouls are real. This is why Shaggy and Scooby are hesitant to directly deal with the spooks the gang come across, because while most of the time it is a dude in a mask, there's still the chance of it being the genuine deal and
Give me a Fred who looks like he's the high school baseball star and small town sweet heart but is a huge dork, auto mechanic and somewhat engineering nerd who loves his traps and mechanical marvels. He's eager to share, and fell in love with mysteries and the like after something like a good mystery podcast or novel, and decided to investigate right away the first time a mystery lands in Coolsville/Crystal Cove/their hometown. It leads to him running into the individuals that would become his best friends and Mystery Inc.. He's the 'face' of the group, the one who put out his number and talks to the clients to set up investigations and the Mystery Machine was a van he rebuilt and painted.
Give me a Daphne who is still girly and loves her fashion and trends, but is also an avid journalist, martial artist of some form, and the one with the most connections. She gets the gang rides when the Mystery Machine on it's own won't cut it, she gets them the hotels, and just general things like that because of extended family or people she's befriend. Occasionally she uses the money her parents send her way, but for the most part, she uses her own inherent personable nature to help her and her friends along. She's also the gangs note take, and has a file on each case carefully catalogued and stored away. It would've been Velma that did so, but when she gets enthusiastic her hand writing tends to start becoming illegible to everyone else, so Daphne takes over the case notes and complies everything when it's solved for if they ever need it later.
Give me a Velma who studies various sciences and languages and is a straight A student, but who also dabbles around in old stories, mythologies, and cryptids as a secret hobby before throwing herself into it fully after the first time her and her friends encounter something supernatural that she can't explain in a way normal sciences could. She's the 'forensic' expert of the time, working out the details of how the man in the mask is able to pull off their 'supernatural' feats, while also examining the actual supernatural things to figure what exactly they're dealing with because different creatures have different rules and you don't want to mix those up. She helps Fred build his traps, or at least reigns them in enough to be feasible. She actually met Fred in a shop class/engineering class and he'd made an off hand comment about a trap idea that she responded to and it spiraled from there. She makes the little details the whole gang collects work into one coherent picture.
Give me a Shaggy who is still an anxious, eats a lot, and is goofy but who's also the most athletic of the crew, gymnastics/track team, has a slew of odd little talents from hobbies he took up as kid, and cook like no one's business. He and Scooby, despite wanting the least to do with the actual supernatural things some how has the most contacts on the supernatural side of things like how Daphne has with humans. He does ironically meet Daphne first, while she's taking her mother's dog to the groomers the same day Shaggy's taking Scooby and they hit it off. Like the gang investigates a town saying that Dracula is terrorizing them, and Shaggy helps clear it up because he happens to know the particular vampire because he helped coach his daughter's volleyball team one summer, and said daughter shrieks in delight when she sees coaches Shaggy and Scooby again and asks when they'll coach again. He makes sure the gang stays fed, keeps up the first aid supplies, and the other things that fall under that blanket.
Give me a Scooby, who is a nervous great dane that has an appetite and dry wit to match his 'owner's'/best friend's but is a mystery the gang is lowkey trying to solve because he doesn't match any supernatural creature Velma can find but no one knows how can talk and even he wants to know, and who despite seeming like a coward is one of the first run back to defend his friends from a monster, real and not. He knows that there's something a bit more going on for the group, something watching them and waiting but it doesn't mean harm so he doesn't bother it too much and focuses more on his humans. He's the one who makes sure that the gang takes a step back and breathes, he helps Shaggy through anxiety/panic attacks, brings Velma the vegetarian chili from dinner while she's hunched over an analysis and comparing stories, makes Fred sit after he's been pacing for 30 minutes to look at a new angle, and makes sure Daphne sleeps when she's caught up looking through old cases to find similarities/connections cause they know there's one to the latest case they're working, he keeps them in the moment and helps make sure that this thing they're doing stay fun.
All I want is these 4 kids/young adults who meet for one mystery, and decide they like what they did and carrying that on from like high school and through college. They'll poke fun at each other, good naturedly of course, but they're there for each other through thick and thin and will solve any mystery that crosses their proverbial door step, especially if they start finding connections and clues to something bigger.

Okay???
People are allowed to be stereotypical, and besides that we have LESBIANS!!!!! IN A KIDS MOVIE!!!!

this rewatch of sdmi has been wild because once you start taking the talking animals and their place in the worldbuilding seriously it's just like oh wow this is some real final fantasy plot huh. what do you mean the resident discriminated-against beastfolk are not only descended from ancient otherworldly beings masquerading as gods, and not only driven insane even more effectively than non-beastfolk by a curse because of their heritage, and not only serve as apocalyptically powerful vessels for those otherworldly beings, but are easy to read as having been created specifically because they're more powerful vessels than normal animals, and then abandoned to their own devices (being enslaved) for thousands of years until the next time their creators pop into this reality and want a convenient corporeal form to snatch. which game in the series is this
#sdmi#scooby doo: mystery incorporated#shitposting#don't get me started on 'what if they look different to different people depending on what they expect to see'#'we're seeing them through the filter the gang/town would see them through; and/or the filter of the medium itself'#'and that filter might be kind of goofy and a bit abstracted; but still Recognizably Looks Like That Animal'#'if you take that away they look a whole lot less goofy and a *hell* of a lot more uncanny than what we get to see in the show'#'pericles is so completely removed from what his species is supposed to look like--#obviously his head is *way* more human-adjacent than a real parrot; but also there are notable differences from greys specifically--#because he has already been touched by the entity for his entire life; and he looks so completely different before and after the asylum#because the entity's had 20 years of isolation; among people who already see him as a terrifying monster; to turn all his influence on him'#'pericles looks the way he does because we are seeing the *real* pericles'#'or at least more of him than scooby or the others'#'that's what being the entity's special favorite will get you 🙃'#anyway these little fuckers are Interesting Actually and i'm having a lot of fun with them; even if the way canon handles them is upsetting#this isn't necessarily my main headcanon but it's one i like a lot and 'what do they *really* look like' might be a fun design challenge#SDMItag#to draw tag#professor pericles

While I’m not the biggest fan of “children’s media but if ~adult~” Velma had a potentially interesting premise. What if the mystery gang was dealing with high stakes murder? Zombie Island did something similar and it slapped. Velma having a missing mother? A serial killer killing their classmates? Fred gets framed and now the gang is without their leader? That could’ve been really cool. But the writers didn’t care about what makes Scooby-Doo good. The ragtag team working to catch a killer to save their friend? We would’ve ate that shit up. But the characters are mutated beyond recognition. They’re not friends. They’re annoying. And maybe this is a nitpick but the voice actors suck for these roles. If you’re playing an iconic character DO 👏 THE 👏 DAMN 👏 VOICE 👏

THEY CHANGED IT!!!
I'm watching HBOVelma (by 🏴‍☠️ means, HBO will not see a shadow of my money) for review purposes but what I came to talk about here is that the Brazilian dub changed the #MeToo line!!
Daphne: " Yeah it must be it [selling drugs for money gain], because the genius Velma Dinkley always knows everything about everyone and has no fear of talking about it"
Velma: "Exacltly. I do talk, darling. Like every comedian before TikTok was invented"
THE FUCKING BRAZILIAN DUB CHANGED IT!
This an actual commentary on real shit instead of the " i hate women that speak up about being raped by celebrities" mess that it was before.
After TikTok, people started filtering themselves with words like "Unalive" and there are things in TikTok you have to sensor or straight up not show or talk about because of the way the platform works
Its a perfect change? No, but its better than what was there before
I have many thoughts on this hell scape of a show and how the one I'm watching feels slightly different because of the voice actors (since they are the same voice actors that the Gang always has since Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated they can't take the "we know each other for half a decade now" from their voices so the gang talks with a layer of familiarity and fondness that the english version doesn't have. Hell, in this very line Velma calls Daphne "Querida" [Darling] in such a natural way. It has a mocking tint to it but at the same time there is something familiar and fond because I have heard Fernanda Baronne as Velma call Daphne "Darling" before and on those times they were friends) and I want to truly dissect where they dropped the ball... and set it ablaze
I will make a full season review. I will watch both the Brazilian Dub and the English dub to compare and have a more nuanced view since this line has show me that the dub may be making this more tolerable (and they deserve a Prize for that because this is already hell for a scooby fan with the voice actors putting their whole pussies in their performances to save this shit, I can't imagine the feeling that will rise on me when that familiarity is gone)
Lets call it "I watched Velma HBO so you don't have too"
See you later my meddling kids.
