BnHA Chapter 232: Giant Bitchslap Arm

Previously on BnHA: Gigantomachia woke up and started ninja-running toward Aichi prefecture. Then all of a sudden we cut to Hawks just chilling on an Osaka rooftop with a bag. Everyone was like, “whoa, Hawks, what are you doing in this arc?” Hawks was all “well I’ll show you” and then he had a flashback where he fucking murdered Best Jeanist, probably, and everyone was like “um, hey, what the actual fuck” and Hawks was like “well you asked” and we were all filled with regret for having done so. Back in the Ol’ Villain City, Twice caught up with Tomura and Spinner and they were very happy to see him, and Tomura was like “so anyway we’re almost at Re-Destro’s tower and I can’t wait to fucking kill that guy” and the others agreed but they also worried that Tomura was too exhausted to keep this up much longer, and so Twice went on ahead to try and finish off RD on his own. The chapter ended up with Twice #241762-D arriving at the top of the tower to confront RD and rescue my boyfriend Giran.

Today on BnHA: Twice creates some clones of Tomura and the gang to help him out. Re-Destro then insta-kills one of the clones and tells Twice that he’ll kill Giran if Twice uses his quirk any more. He then makes his arm go all big and he just fuckin’... [gestures wildly] WHIPASH!! and just smacks them all to death, and then he goes over to where Giran is and gets ready to kill him while he and Twice are having a moment. Thankfully the not-quite-dead-yet Tomura clone intervenes, and as he fights him, Re-Destro launches into a big villain monologue about the Mother of Quirks, a.k.a. the mother of the first superpowered child to ever be born. Long story short, that baby grew up to be Destro, and his mom was all “please be kind to him and let him live in peace!” and so they fucking killed her because people are terrible. As RD is wrapping up his story and about to kill the clone Tomura, the real one reaches the tower and is all, “TOUCH!!!” This is the single most badass thing anyone has ever done, and the chapter ends with a wobbly Tomura confusedly interrogating an enraged Re-Destro while “We Will Rock You” by Queen plays in the background omfg.

(All comments are my unspoiled reactions from my initial readthrough of the chapter. I did a quick edit for grammar and clarity immediately afterward, and added one or two ETAs in the process, but aside from that there are no changes.)

here’s how it’s gonna go. I’ve got a mirror, and we’re gonna use it to cautiously peek around corners before clicking to the next page, and from what I understand that should protect us from being instantly killed by Horikoshi’s murderous basilisk glare. the characters, on the other hand, well...

what kind of sound effect is this

glomp glomp? are these Horikoshi sound effects? does he know his little Twice clones are making enthusiastic hugging sounds?? and yet this is oddly in character though

also it looks like he’s cloning at least one Tomura and Dabi! so that should be fun. we get to see RD presumably murder them all on this little test run, and then they’ll hopefully have a better idea of how to approach this on their second go-around

RD says he had a lot of guards down below, and he’s praising Twice’s quirk. well, his “superpower”, anyway

that was the title of this chapter, incidentally; “quirks and superpowers.” I do vaguely wonder why they’re so insistent on using different terminology for it, and I wonder if there’s an actual reason for that

anyway so now Jin is yelling at the clones that they’re clones. so it’s okay if they die and stuff. lol. I’m sure that makes them feel a whole lot better

I wonder if this Tomura is less sleep-deprived? also, Twice duplicated the hands as well! that’s something that was pointed out to me a little while ago, back when they were fighting Gigantomachia. this actually seems a bit iffy to me now that we’ve been reminded that he needs to understand the details of something in and out before he can copy it. like, he couldn’t copy the quirk-be-gone bullets because he didn’t know how they worked. but somehow he knows how these hands work though??

or maybe he doesn’t, and these hands don’t actually work like the Real Deal hands. that’s probably the case actually. so anyways I wonder if this Tomura will act a little different. I’m probably overthinking this to the extreme lol

and Twice and Dabi are making the exact same joke I made three paragraphs earlier about “that should make them feel a whole lot better.” get your own material you assclowns

last but not least, lol at him having to reiterate his tale of bravely overcoming past trauma yet again to Compress because he missed the whole story. poor Compress, all confused and out of the loop. I wonder if Twice duplicated his robot arm. it’s hard to tell in the picture whether it’s missing or he’s still just in the process of creating it

heh. it’s possible Jin has not thought through the potential long-term consequences of this little undertaking at all sob. but that’s a problem for future Twice! right now current Twice has more important things to deal with, like kicking Re-Destro’s ass

yeah, you see, he’s all “don’t worry about that right now” and presumably tucking that whole notion away someplace in the back of his mind to be properly fucked up by later on. as anyone with ADHD can tell you that’s clearly the best way to deal with all of your problems

What is a narcissist?

What characterizes a narcissist? I've encountered this term frequently, not because my friends or colleagues have applied it to me, but rather due to my older sister's frequent use of it. She appears to believe that I fit this description. To diagnose someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), five out of the nine criteria from the DSM-IV-TR are necessary. Some of the traits associated with NPD include a heightened sense of self-importance, preoccupation with fantasies of power, wealth, success, and love, a constant need for admiration, a belief in one's uniqueness, a lack of empathy, arrogance, entitlement, a preference for associating only with important or special individuals, and a tendency to exploit others for personal gain.

It's crucial to distinguish between narcissism and narcissistic personality disorder. Narcissism refers to certain exhibited traits in a person, where they don't meet enough criteria to be categorized as having NPD.

Allow me to elaborate on the fact that most of us possess elements of personality disorders to some degree. For instance, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is one of the most commonly discussed ones. Each of us experiences varying levels of OCD tendencies. Similarly, anxiety and periods of depression are universal; the key lies in the extent to which these disorders disrupt our daily functioning.

This principle applies to both narcissism and NPD. Celebrating our achievements occasionally and taking pride in reaching goals are healthy behaviors. There's no issue with that. Therefore, if someone labels you as a narcissist or suggests you have OCD, don't be overly concerned. More often than not, they might be projecting their own emotions onto you. Give them space to express themselves, and eventually, the genuine truth will emerge.

End of Year Review 2018: K-dramas Part 1

A/N: I had to break this into two parts, hence this being the starting point, and being posted today.

This year was a year of dropped dramas this year. I dropped more shows than I watched to completion, and more than you would expect. I think I finished maybe a total of 10 shows over the course of the year (9 of which are on this list), and most of the ones I dropped I will be leaving abandoned (except for the 1 that finished up this list). Suffice to say, I was underwhelmed by this years taking. And honestly, my top 10 only has like 3 or 4 shows that I don’t have major problems with, mostly in the back half of the shows.

My format takes a page from the very good Josei Next Door (if you like anime, her end of year lists are a must read, and hold many of my current favorites), and then follows my own loose commentary structure, because I can’t be bothered to organize half the time. So, anyways, here we go with the bottom half (i.e. good shows I enjoyed but I don’t love)!

Bottom 5: These shows are unordered, because I honestly had no clue of what order to put them in. So, alphabetical it is!

Come and Hug Me

Episodes: 32

Station: MBC

Director/Writer: Choi Joon Bae (The Sons), Lee A Ram

This is the only show on this list I haven’t finished. And that is in no way a comment on the show, because I really loved this show. It is the most dramatic show that I watched this year, and I was strung along for the whole damn ride. I cried, multiple times on this show, in the same episode.

Chang Ki Yong is someone I have known since his first ever role on It’s Okay That’s Love. And 4 years later, he has grown into a totally different actor. The first few episodes, I was pretty sure he was a really bad actor who had managed to get the lead role of a show on a big channel. Instead, he had his character so integrated that took a long time to reveal the layers of that character. Jin Ki Joo is beautiful and delicate and wonderful. She was completely believable from moment one, and carries tragedy so well. She also has one of my favorite clapbacks of all time (that I gifed way back when).

This show is a heart wrenching and does not let up. And I don’t usually go for shows that are quite that sad. But dammit all if this show didn’t draw me in and refuse to let me leave.

Fox Bride Star

Episodes: 32

Station: SBS

Director/Writer: Shin Woo Cheol (Gentleman’s Dignity), Kang Eun Kyung (Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim)

In A Sentence: The trials and tribulations of the daily life of airport employees.

Okay, I will talk a bit about the main characters in the show. I love Lee Je Hoon, even if I don’t like any of the projects he has chosen since Signal. And I love Chae Soo Bin, ever since I’m Not A Robot. And they sort of mostly totally have chemistry. And the whole robot arm/leg thing is something interesting I guess.

Can you tell that the leads weren’t the reason I watched this show? Well, now that that is out of the way, let’s talk about the part of this show you should love. The Security Couple. Kim Kyung Nam and Lee Soo Kyung have enough chemistry to run the whole show, and they have the cutest storyline by a lot. I was rooting for them throughout, especially since Lee Soo Kyung’s character felt a lot like Lee Min Ki in Because This Is My First Life. Also, I need Kim Kyung Nam in a drama as the leading man in a sort of mob boss in a rom com sort of show. Because he would kill it.

The machinations of the show were often weird and didn’t fit. But the security couple. The whole asshole brother plot line was unneeded. But the security couple. Now maybe you know why I included this show.

Judge vs. Judge

Episodes: 32

Station: SBS

Director/Writer: Lee Kwang Young, Seo In

In A Sentence: The trials and tribulations of the daily life of judges.

The first half of this show is something special, and the second half is not the worst, so it deserves to be mentioned. I love the case of the week style, and more importantly the whole mentor-mentee relationship of the judges. And Yeon Woo Jin is adorable as a serious judge who plays by the book, and across from Park Eun Bin’s emotional judging. It is so redeeming after the crap that Yeon Woo Jin had to fight through last year.

Also, the whole plot line with the assistant and the judge friend was adorable, and made me giggle every time I saw their interactions.

This show is nothing to write home about, but it does well as a whole, and has a few shining moments that make it noteworthy for me this year.

My Secret Terrius

Episodes: 32

Station: MBC

Director/Writer: Park Sang Hun (Romance Full of Life), Oh Ji Young (Shopping King Louis)

In A Sentence: He is in hiding, as a nanny, because reasons.

This show was mostly a vessel to have So Ji Sub be endearingly cute the whole time. And I for one am not complaining, because that is wonderful. So Ji Sub needs to be in rom coms for the rest of his life, and I will accept nothing less.

The plot of this show mirrors that of the writer’s previous work, with quirky characters who do weird things with almost no reason and a ton of heart. And it again brings a lot of heart to a show that has no right to have any. From nose kisses with the kids, to cops that are incapable while the neighborhood moms group can catch a kidnapper, no problems. Kang Ki Young is a scene stealer when So Ji Sub isn’t on screen, and brings out some of Terrius’ funniest moments when they are together.

This show has no depth, nor should it. Enjoy it for the silly pleasure it is, as the spiritual if not actual successor as Shopping King Louis.

What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim

Episodes: 16

Station: tvn

Director/Writer: Park Joon Hwa (Because This Is My First Life), Jung Eun Young

In A Sentence: His secretary quits to live her life, and he fights to keep her.

I love the idea of this shows plot. The whole ‘my secretary quit because I’m a dick and she realized that she is worth more’. I love the adjustment to the plot that the show makes over the course of its show to ‘my secretary quit even though she realized I’m not a dick because she wants different things now’. Did the love line make sense from the start? For him sure, but definitely not for her. But once the show got past that initial weirdness, it settled into a much cuter place.

Park Seo Joon is great, because he always is, and Park Min Young is equally great in hers. They play off of each other so well, which is incredibly important for a show that is all about 1 relationship.

Do I wish that they dropped the second lead? Do I get confused by why Chansung doesn’t get more screen time as a hilarious side romance? Yes and Yes. But there is great stuff in the middle, and a solid cast in most of the roles who do great work. Don’t expect depth, but expect a nice ride.

What I have been up too

AGGGH! I’m an artist dammit! Why the hell am I learning code for?... Oh, right robotics/computer science, game development, challenging my tiny dyslexic brain, etc. 

I’m trying to program a simple blackjack game (probability was my strongest subject in math, so I love this game) in Unity, but my damn cards aren’t turning right. I want the blackjack to be the battle screen for the RPG Visual Novel, I’m trying to write and do art for. So far Tako’s tutorial scene is almost written out, he’s going to introduce you to the rules of this blackjack game.

(this is where the simple blackjack will get complicated)

The Battle/Party system:

Basically in the “battle scene” I want to have the player’s health bar under their cards, as the enemy’s (the dealer’s) health bar is “above” (under if you are on their perspective). Different difficulties are based on how much health the enemy has. The heath represents the amount of times the player or enemy can “lose”. Once one reaches 0 the game ends. (Player kills enemy or vice versa, in some cases).

You will have a party of max 3 characters besides your main character. These extra character don’t have a health bar, but carry “Special” cards or can change the style of your attack based on who you select to deliver the “Attack” that turn. Default is protagonist attacks with a basic weapon (ie, short sword) as your party members may have element bonuses that deal extra damage to certain enemies. There will be a timer on how many rounds you need to wait before using a certain character again, I’m thinking 1-3 rounds depending on if you used a special card or a regular attack.

Obviously if you win the blackjack, you successfully attack the enemy. How much damage you do will be based on the character’s stats, elemental effect (if they have one), and if you chose a special card that effects the enemy. (Ie: a “❤” card can be used to heal yourself or attack an undead enemy for bonus damage).

This is the same for the enemy you are fighting. They don’t have a “party” but will have specials based on their typing. Some lower leveled ones will have no special cards, well higher leveled one will and have a higher RNG chances when they hit with them. The player character can put points into their “Resistance(s)” to lower how much elemental damage they take if the enemy isn’t neutral. But, sacrifice points that can go into health and general defence, though you can negate effects that will lower your own damage dealt by putting points into this stat.

The enemy and the player only have 11 regular cards in their decks. Numbered 1 to 11. If you hit “21″ as your score, you will deal a critical hit (a higher RNG rating than normal). If you hit a draw, both will miss/block/dodge the attacks.

Battle Rules:

#1: A special card & the party member it is linked to must be selected before your first “Hit me!”, during your turn in a round.

#2: Run out of HP and you Lose.

#3: Enemy opponent must have a total of 17 or higher score before standing.

#4: The closest one to 21 or hits 21 wins the round.

#5: No one wins on a draw.

Character(s) functions:

Basically what certain characters do, but not who they are (I’m not spoiling them)...

Tako is so far written to give you hints (basically his guess) on what the enemy has for his score. Given they only have 1 to 11 to deal with, the player could figure it out themselves. Though Tako can also give background information on an enemy if you're struggling to decide what will be the best course of action. He’s the only character you can select during battle that kind of ignores rule #1, as he’ll have a “Hint” button on his menu. He will not be selected to attack though if player uses his “Hint”. Like all members you must select “Attack/Special” at the start of the round if you actually want to use him to hurt the enemy. (Not advised as he has even lower attack than the protagonist...) Although all of this depends on if you take him with you or leave him at Jaxel and Damian’s shop, you can always pick him up though if you want his hint ability, but he will take a party member slot.

Jaxel & Damian Daniels, are two characters that run the shop where you can restock on “Special Cards”, buy/trade different weapons for certain members of your team that can have elemental properties, and healing items to use out of combat. (Warning: these two are not what they seem to be and may demand extra payment in other ways other than gold. This payment usually carries negative effects to the player, though you can choose to fight them instead if you refuse their extra demands.) The first thing they try to sell to you is Tako as a food item, where he teaches you how to fight monsters. They’ll let Tako stay in the shop’s fish tank if you leave him there, though they will not guarantee that he’ll be there when you return.... (Tako will be fine, maybe, talking soup is hard to sell, right?)

As I continue to smooth out and write the main story, there might be other characters with special functions, but this is what I have so far. The battle system/blackjack game is what I am currently focused on and want to finish before continuing with character and story development. I also have to figure out how to code for a Visual Novel in Unity.

To my followers:

I know my followers probably think “Oh, Kisa is changing their mind again on what game they are developing.” And I understand. I’m frustrated too that I can’t keep focus on one game concept. 

My 3D game has a few unfinished models right now, I have my 2D side scroller (that might be going into the 3D game if I get my way), but this Visual Novel is replacing my previous ideas on one. 

Since I have no script kiddy that I can use (Daniru’s busy doing his thing and this is to prove to myself that I can script too), and for learning purposes this is something I really want to tackle myself. I might get Daniru involved if, and only if I can’t do scripting myself and the story + characters + CGs are ready to be implemented. It’s mostly since I do not have money to waste paying him at least $50 to do this for me even if I’m unable to sell or raise money to push this through. I’m currently using royalty free music to cut time on this project.

I’m sorry for my empty promises in the past and I shouldn’t make excuses for my “laziness”. If I am to make excuses though, I’ve have a lot (if you haven’t noticed) of IRL BS, going on in my life at the moment. I’m fighting depression again without medication, and had been very sick for the past few months (like I lost 10 pounds in three days sick).

To my Ao3 followers:

I will try to update my Tokyo Ghoul Fanfictions (and Danny Phantom ones if you like those), again there has been a lot going on in my life. But, I am the type of person who hates leaving things on cliffhangers (did I ever tell you I borrowed $20 from a teacher on a trip and paid her back 3 years later, because the guilt of a debt was killing me inside?). I only take down stories I have no hopes of revisiting if they are not One-shots. If there is a “?” I will be updating when I am able.

The only thing that will permanently stop me from anything will be my death, and even then I bet I’d haunt my computer just to finish what I started. So don’t worry too much if I haven’t updated something you like. If it’s still on Ao3, know one day I’ll come back to it. (If you followed me for a long time you know I update chapters quickly when I get back into the swing of things!)
