Broken Dreams | Goldilocks and Wilhelm | Fairytale Land

Sleep was never easy – ever.  Nightmares still came and haunted her.  Even if she couldn’t feel the fear or sadness or panic that the images conveyed – they still haunted her and made sleep impossible some nights.  Memories she wished that went away when the Queen pulled her heart from her chest.  Some had.  Some stayed.  Goldilocks didn’t know why that was, and the Queen wasn’t exactly the type to give a straight answer.

Being one of the Queen’s pets meant that Goldilocks lived in the castle.  Of course, the Queen must have her pets in their cages.  Goldi hated it.  She missed the openness of the forest that she grew up in.  The Queen had her heart in a cage, when did she need to stick her in a physical one as well.  The rogue was thankful that she had a room in the castle rather than a spot in the dungeons.  Goldi had spent time down in the dungeons – never again would she go there – ever.

Most nights she walked the halls of the castle, exploring the spaces that she was allowed in, stopping at every window to look at the stars.  Goldilocks missed how the stars looked from the forest.  As she walked, her leather armor made light noises, and the noise her boots made echoed in the empty castle hallways. 

Not out of the ordinary, the blonde found herself in the library.  Goldi pulled the leather gloves off of her hands and ran her thing fingers along the spines of the beautifully bond books.  She had never been able to properly finish her education, but she had never given up on teaching herself.  In a way, she preferred the way it ended up, because it gave her the freedom to learn whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted. 

She found a book that caught her attention and pulled it off of the shelf.  Her time in here reading was her only free time where she didn’t have a guard breathing down her neck.  Goldilocks lived for these moments, even if she should be trying to sleep.  She found a chair and sat down, propping her legs up on the small table in front of her.  Goldilocks pulled the hood off of her head, letting her golden hair fall down the back of the chair as she leaned back.  She opened the book and started reading, not realizing someone else would be in the library that night.

Ruby lifted her head from the desk as she heard the bell ring above her. She looked around the room groggily as she tried to remember what class this was. Seeing the beakers and test tubes Ruby guessed that she was in science “Wonderful.” She grumbled softly. As the people took their seats she ruffled her hair, trying to wake herself up. The teacher walked in, looking unusually happy as he set his briefcase on the desk “Good morning class. Today you will be pairing into groups. Everyone find a partner and an open table.”

Ruby smiled as she looked around the room, searching for anyone to be with her. As everyone paired off Ruby was left alone, her smile fading slightly until she saw a lone person sitting at a table. She walked towards him, trying to relight her smile as she leaned against the table “Hey. Mind if I partner with you?”
