A Gift Exchange for the Mystery Skulls Animated fandom!

Welcome to the 7th Annual Holiday Spirits! Gift givers will be semi-randomly assigned to others, and gifts will be exchanged on Christmas day. Gifts can be big or small! The most important thing is to have fun!

How to join:

Submit a completed google form from the link below, before the deadline! The participant form is below the rules on this post!

Submissions will close after October 31st.

Assignments will be given throughout the 1st to the 8th of November. If you haven’t received yours by the 12th, please send us a note! If this changes at all I will make a post!

Gifts are due the 25th of December. Do not post them before then. If you wont be home that day, you can schedule it ahead of time so that it will post on Christmas day!

On the 25th post your gift and don’t forget to @tag your giftee! Also put it in the event tag, #MSAholidayspirits2023 so that I can see and reblog the wonderful gifts you all make! Feel free to also tag this blog.

This is a family friendly event, so no gore or NSFW is permitted. Do not use the event tag for art depicting that.

Please don’t reveal yourself to your giftee until the 25th. We want this to be a surprise! If you need any information, pass it to this blog and they can reach out to get your answer!

If you have to back out of the event, let us know ASAP so we can find a back-up! We don’t want anyone to be left out of the exchange. Also if your gift will be late, please let us know before the due date, so we can let your giftee know!

Welcome to Genshin Impact Secret Santa 2023! It's a christmas based event where you gift each other gifs. You get a randomly assigned participant and you have a create a gift for them! And obviously vice-versa, someone gets you! In this year's edition, we open the event to not only writers, but also to other artists! For rules, FAQ and how to join please read under the cut.

The christmas spirit– as you realized– hides the scrolls and pull out... another one, alongside with a fountain pen. It hands you both of them. You not only notice that its fingers seem to be a little translucent at the tips, but also that the pen if wrapped in red and green ribbon. You find it cute.

"Here are the rules. We obviously have some rules to follow." It says proudly. The spirit seems very happy from its own hard work. "And your form. If you wish to take part in the event, please fill it out!"

This is a SFW Genshin Impact x Reader event, so it would be nice to avoid purely NSFW blogs in the event. That way everyone, no matter, what can take part. You can join if your blog is multifandom, as long as Genshin Impact is one of the fandoms you createfor.

The applications will close on 25th of November, 4 PM GMT+1. During 28th to 30th of November we will be sending messages (or asks) to the participants with the person they got. Remember to keep it a secret! After receiving the person, you are free to start creating.

"It's already past 26th of december and I got nothing, what do I do?" — Please DM us if this happens. We will ask the person that got you what is happening. In worst case scenario (as in, if we get no reply from the said person), someone else will create a gift for you.

"What's the word minimum for fanfics? Limit? Or general theme?" — There is no word limit or minimum amount! And so there's no certain theme we expect people to follow. You can create your gift with a winter theme, christmas theme, maybe something totally different, anything that you think may fit the person you got.

Chris liked to celebrate his birthday.

It wasn’t because he liked people celebrating him, but he liked having those he loved around him, loud and laughing over cake and drinks.

But even his excitement to be around his close friends and family was diminished by the fact that Y/N was away for press for her movie, Inside Out. It was crazy to Chris how much her absence affected his mood.

Sure, they took their time and started out as friends before they finally kissed and went on a date, but even before so, he would’ve missed her.

He was glad he could take some time off from work, especially since Avengers: Age of Ultron was released recently and it seemed like ever since, he had been busy. Although, he did manage to take your relationship a step further during that time.

“Why the long face?” Scott approached him, holding a drink in his head.

“What?” Chris asked him, sipping from his own.

The two brothers stood in the backyard of Chris’ Bostonian home, chatter and laughter around them coming from family and friends.

Scott pointed at Chris, mimicking his frown, “The face.”

Chris chuckled, rolling his eyes at his brother.

“What’s up?” Scott repeated, “Is this about Y/N Y/L/N?”

“Are you always going to say her full name?”

“I just can’t believe you’re banging Y/N Y/L/N.”

“We’re not banging!” Chris laughed, “We’re not.”

“You’re in a situation then, I don’t know,” Scott argued, “Y/N fucking Y/L/N!”

Chris jokingly rolled his eyes, his flushed cheeks being enough proof that he was getting flustered.

“Is it about her?”

Chris shrugged before replying, “She’s been busy,” he said.

“She didn’t wish you a happy birthday?”

“She was the first to call,” he smiled, looking at his brother.

Scott groaned, “Do you ever talk about me with her? Does she know I exist?”

“Alright, can you stop being so obsessed?” Chris laughed.

“As if you aren’t obsessed with her, oh come on!” Scott argued back, “But seriously, then what’s up?”

“Nothing, I just-I don’t know, I think I just wanted to celebrate my birthday with her here, you know?”

Scott stayed quiet for a moment, only letting a smirk grow on his face.

“What?” Chris asked, knowing that look his younger brother was giving him.

“Nothing, it’s just,” he paused before snickering, “You’re down. Bad.”

“Fuck off,” Chris shoved his brother.

“No, really, really,” Scott laughed, “I can’t imagine someone has you pinning over them for months like that. How long have you known each other? Since December last year?”

Chris nodded, “The Nolans had their party in December, yeah.”

“Since December,” Scott repeated, “And you’ve only kissed and went on your first date last month,” he said, “Damn.”

“I don’t mind,” Chris said, “I mean—She was fresh out of a breakup and I would’ve been such an asshole if I just came in like that. I like that we’re taking our time, we’re-we’re getting to know each other.”

“Bullshit,” Scott teased.

“No, seriously,” Chris chuckled, his eyebrows furrowing when his phone vibrated in his pocket, “Hold on a sec,” he took it out, glancing at it before a smile broke out on his face, instantly moving away from his brother and the scene and into a secluded area to answer, “Hey.”

“Hey, birthday boy,” her voice came in and he almost felt lightheaded from her flirty tone, “Sorry I’m calling you at your party.”

“You can call me any time you want,” he flirted.

Chris couldn’t see her flustered face, but he sure as hell had a picture up his mind.

“Yeah, well,” she began, “In about ten minutes, you’re going to have to receive a package from your door.”

“You’re-Are you here?”

“No, I’m still in Cali,” she said with a sigh, “But I didn’t want to pass on your actual birthday without giving you a gift.”

“You know you didn’t have to,” Chris said.

“Yeah, I know,” she replied softly, “It’s nothing big,” she said, “Just something to tell you I’m thinking about you tonight.”

“Just tonight?” Chris smiled, looking down at the ground as he held on to his phone, moving one hand to his pocket.

“Especially tonight,” she flirted back, “I don’t want to keep you away from your party.”

“No, hey, it’s okay,” he said, “I missed hearing your voice.”

“Stop flirting with me. You’re the birthday boy here.”

“Yeah? You want to flirt with me instead?”

“I thought it was obvious I was trying?” She teased.

“Think you need to try harder,” as always, he teased back.

Her laugh made him beam, feeling his stomach go into knots at the sound.

It wasn’t even a minute later when he heard his doorbell over the music playing, thankful that it wasn’t so loud.

“I think it’s here,” he said, moving to his door with his phone still against his ear.

“They said 10 minutes,” she muttered.

“Hold on,” he said, opening the door. Instantly, Chris smiled at the delivery guy, taking the big box from him before tipping him.

“Jesus, what’s in there?” He muttered, feeling the heavy box as he walked back inside.

“It’s something really small,” she said.

Chris hummed, removing the tape before opening the top lid, his eyes falling on the big number of candy in there before he laughed, “Oh, you’re the cutest!”

“Hold one,” she told him.

“What do y-Oh!” He gasped, taking out a bag of Skittles.

‘Happy birthday, Christopher!’ was written on every single candy bag.

“You’re absolutely crazy,” he laughed, looking at all the candy, “I didn’t know you can customize that,” he said, and at her quietness, he smiled, nodding slightly, “You can’t customize that, huh?”

“I know some people,” she giggled.

Chris laughed. Of course she knew people.

“Now go back to your party,” she told him.

“Will I talk to you tonight?” Chris asked.

“You already did. Don’t be so greedy,” she teased him.

“No, that’s not enough. I don’t even know how your day went,” he said.

“I’ll talk to you tonight,” she said, “Just call me when your party is over.”

“Time to throw everyone out,” he joked.

She laughed, “Stop that. I’ll wait for you.”

And while Chris and Y/N did talk later that night, he was oblivious to her planning on visiting him only a couple of days later since her schedule allowed her a two-day break, and she wanted to spend one day with him and the other with her family.

June 15th came and so did Y/N. She had no house or apartment in Boston, but she had visited Chris a fair amount of times during the time they knew each other, so she didn’t have trouble finding his house at 10 am.

Having been awake for an hour already, Chris was all fresh in a fitted white t-shirt and loose sweatpants, opting for comfort since he wasn’t planning on going anywhere.

But the moment he opened his door, he wished he put more effort into looking good.

There she stood; in a simple outfit that she elevated like she always did, two bags in one hand, two blueberry smoothies in the other, and securing a wrapped up frame against her chest with both arms.

“You’re fucking kidding,” Chris said, “You’ve got be fucking kidding me right now, Y/N,” his hand were on her waist in a second, pulling her inside as she giggled before he helped her with the frame, leaning it against the wall.

“Surprise?” She kicked off her heels, standing barefoot as she looked at him.

Chris moved his hands, removing her sunglasses from her face before he pressed his lips to hers, “Happy belated birthday,” she whispered.

He hummed, hugging her without a care to the goodies in her hands, “It really is happy.”

She had gotten him muffins and croissants that they both sat in his kitchen eating.

“I’m just here for the day,” she told him after sipping on her smoothie, her leg touching his under the table, “Sorry I missed your birthday,” she frowned.

“Hey, no,” he shook his head, “You got me the cutest gift and you-I can’t believe you decided to spend the day with me today.”

“Why?” She smiled, looking at her muffin in her hand, “Is it too hard to believe that I want to spend the day with the man I like?”

Chris’ stomach was in shambles, his eyes closing as he tilted his head back with a smile, “You keep saying stuff like that and I won’t know how to stop myself from kissing you.”

“I never said you need to be stopped,” she instantly said.

“God, Y/N,” he muttered, scooting her chair even closer to his before his lips were on hers.

She smiled into the kiss, only pulling back to talk, ”The candy wasn’t your gift,” she said.

“Hm?”

She shook her head, standing up to wash her hands before she was about to move past him. Chris was quick to hook a finger to one of her belt hoops, halting her movement and pulling her back.

“I’m just bringing you your gift,” she laughed, putting her hands on his shoulders as he sat.

“Be quick,” he said, smiling when she pecked his lips before leaving.

It was only his first birthday with them together, and although they weren’t official and had no labels, she knew she didn’t want to pass on the chance to see him beam; a sight she had seemed to love so much that she felt like she would go to the ends of the world to see.

“Can you just come here?!” She shouted from the living room.

It didn’t take him long to be with her, hands having a mind of their own as they were placed on her hips.

“Come on, open it,” she motioned towards the frame.

Chris sat on the couch, taking the big frame and placing it on his lap, “Is it a picture of you?”

“Yeah, how did you know?” She sarcastically replied, standing back with her arms crossed.

Chris chuckled, his hands working on unwrapping the navy blue wrapping paper.

His eyes fell on a picture. The Patriots team were stood smiling, Tom Brady standing in the middle with a sign.

‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHRIS EVANS!’ was written in bold, black marker, and Chris’ eyes almost fell out of their sockets.

“Is this edited?” He asked, looking up at Y/N, “Y/N, is this—this is fucking edited, right?”

“Why would I get you an edited picture?” She laughed.

“Oh my God,” his hand went to his mouth, eyes wide as he looked at the picture, “This is-I have no words to say. I don’t-I don’t know what to say.”

She approached him, reaching to cup his face, making him look up at her, “Happy birthday, Chris.”

Chris sighed in contentment, standing up to wrap his arms around her, “This is the best gift I have ever received,” he said, “How did you even pull that one?”

With a giggle and a twinkle in her eyes that had Chris weak at the knees, she replied:

“I know some people.”

so many signs

so i had this thing in the back of my mind that i wanted to share a little bit about, because i think it’s highlights a little bit of karlie’s easter egging prowess

so as many of you know, i have had a certain piece of jewelry identification that’s been top of mind for awhile. a mysterious (and hilarious) evil eye necklace that karlie first wore on her birthday last year, august 3rd, 2022:

it took a long while to identify but with the help of @kwyw and @corneliastvendor and input from many more, we diligently settled upon a match with the brand Mejuri.

so

…i dunno if you remember, but back at the beginning of the year @kwyw also pointed out that there was an extra connection, between this evil eye necklace and the amulette de cartier:

both talismans of Courage.

the amulette de cartier has its own place in kaylor lore (if it’s new to you you can read about that here and here and here). but, veterans of quarantine kaylor remember how this rep era necklace made a unique surprise appearance during lover/folklore era, ultimately coinciding with karlie’s 2020 pregnancy. which, given the symbolism of the necklace, i think made a lot of thematic sense… being pregnant during the height of a pandemic is scary and, speaking from experience, i as well found myself in search of things to give me that extra peace of mind.

so seeing the necklace have that Courage keyword connection, i couldn’t help but uhhh, have a feeling so peculiar. now, with the gift of more (celebratory) information, let’s take a look at all the times karlie has worn this necklace (*reminder that some of these may be a day off because of the big time zone difference between me and the US):

August 3rd, 2022 — (as pictured above) karlie’s birthday, she writes “cheers to new beginnings xx”

September 2nd, 2022 — this therabody promo, which many of us got a kick out of after midnights was announced, first because she mentions 3am (the name of the extra version of the album) and the word midnight and second because this tiktok is set to the tune of ABBA’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A Man After Midnight”

November 19th, 2022 — a post captioned friyay, notably, wearing a loewe shirt, the designer who she wore to the met gala

December 11th, 2022 — to a celebratory kode with klossy event for her young scholars

December 13th, 2022 — she wore it as part of several instagram stories she had up on taylor’s bday (thank you @kwyw for the reminder 😆)

December 18th, 2022 — she posted this the same day she posted the photos of her josh and levi at the ice skating rink (mikey and misha were there too) before heading to japan.

and then, at the met gala on May 1st, wearing loewe, she announces her pregnancy, and tells everybody that she is nearly 8 months along!

now, if we are to assume that she is 8 months along this may, we can count back ( 7mo along in april, 6mo march, 5mo feb, 4mo jan, 3mo dec, 2mo nov, 1mo along in oct, 0mo sept) and see how in order to have conceived in september, prep for that would likely have started in… yes, the month before. august! aka… when she first debuted the evil eye necklace!

and when you look back at all the phrases and contexts accompanying her posts with the piece, you can kind of see how the necklace works in concert with her setting her intentions, potentially celebrating milestones like finding out, telling people, hitting the 5 mo mark which is when the majority of pregnancies become more stable, etc… this is all to say, and this is just a simple thing but, i feel confident in saying that this necklace was in fact one way of her hinting at her next child, since all the way back in august 2022 ☺️ and since it’s an eye necklace? well, 😌 all the more nice of a feeling.

Transiting Sun enters Sagittarius

This has always been one of my favorite times of the year. I love the lights, the good cheer, the hot chocolate, the buying or making presents, all of it. I love the feeling of the old year coming to a close (great memories!), and the anticipation of what the coming year could bring.

It’s just going to be a little more challenging to enjoy it, this time. The Sun makes few “flowing” aspects (sextiles and trines) during its 2023 trip through Sagittarius. We’re all going to be prone to the less positive Sagittarian traits. Jumping to conclusions, oversimplification, commitment-phobia, excess, insisting that one’s own traditions are the only valid traditions.

Maybe you can’t decide which holiday party to go to, and your refusal to commit results in you sitting home, alone. Maybe you’re determined to have a lavish holiday, and you overspend. You could quarrel with someone over when to open gifts. (A teenaged Ms M was horrified to learn that not every family opens presents on Christmas morning.)

What can we do? Keep in mind that this Sag season brings challenges, and rise to the occasions. Work hard to avoid materialism and competitiveness. Cut everybody a ton of slack, including yourself, during this especially stressful time of year. The whole point of Sagittarius is to be resilient and tolerant and wise - and the best way to develop those traits is to get experienced.

Give all these aspects a day or so on either side.

after reviewing the footage from the gingerbread village cameras, PASSION5 has decided to offer contracts to various legacy talents. the company was looking for individual who interacted well with their brands (positive use of product during threads/solos), had availabilities (no other contracts or contracts with rival companies), talent and some public recognition (minimum 25 notoriety, 25 acting and 50 modeling). furthermore, to match the right people with the right product, they also consulted directly with LEGACY ENTERTAINMENT (modeling portfolios done for those eligible at the time of the event). thus, the chosen models have been divided in 4 groups:

First fic published on Ao3: My VP retelling fic called Little House on the Hill. I had the immense desire to write their story from my POV and I decided to start posting it last December. I haven't touched it in months unfortunately, due to other projects I'm working on rn but I will get back on it soon.

Last fic published: Shoot me, a fic that was part of the game "Guess The Author" on the kindergarten mafia discord server, in which Vegas has to choose who to kill between Pete and Macau. A fun angsty little concept that has a happy ending :3

Fandom/ship I only wrote once: just a kiss, a PorschePete fic which was a way to scratch the itch of seeing them almost kiss during ep 4. I don't have any other ideas for them, so it'll probably be a one-time thing.

Favorite fic in most popular fandom/ship: VegasPete are my babies and the ship with the most fics on Ao3, which makes me super happy. My favourite fic for them is Dead End, a gift fic that I wrote for the amazing @xxhappy-chickenxx. Post canon Vegas angst, the way I adore it.

Fic I wish more people read: Honestly, all of them, because I'm an insecure bitch who gets an adrenaline rush from hits/kudos and especially comments, but if I had to choose, I'd say (Not) Family, a 500 word fic about Vegas and his relationship with Kinn and Tankhun, because I advocate for more fics in second person POV (it's so much fun writing it and it's so rewarding to read if it's done well enough, more people should try it) and Guilt Trip, another 500 word fic that explores the relationship between Macau and Pete during the hospital era, because MACAU AND PETE ARE PRECIOUS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP GIVES ME LIFE, OK? (Stay tuned for the extended version of that btw. I know I said it's coming soon like months ago but I mean it this time, hopefully it'll be here by the start of November🤞)

Fic I agonised over: Dead End. That's it, that's the post. No, for real though, VegasPete post canon angst is something I wanted to try for a while but I was always afraid of fucking it up. The feedback I received for the fic made me believe that I did a good job with it though, so I guess it was all worth it in the end.

Fic that popped out fully-formed: This doesn't happen to me haha I don't have fics fully formed besides some basic plot elements and some vibes but I guess the closest it's come to that was Broken Vows - a fic in which Kinn takes revenge against Vegas for Tawan in the pettiest way possible. Idk, I had written the basic structure of it one random day and then polished it a bit and submitted it for the server's GTA. It was very fun to write in general, I'll admit.

Fic I'm proud of: I'll just say all of them because I feel it in my bones. Even Bitter Hearts, Clouded Minds, the second installment of my Heroes and Villains series which I am very mixed about, is a story that came from my heart and slipped through my fingers onto the doc document and then on Ao3 so, I can't say I'm not proud of releasing it into the wild. KinnPorsche The Series gave me my passion for writing back and made me start writing fanfic, something I had never done before so I'll forever be grateful for it. English isn't even my first language so I'm glad I pushed my insecurities aside and gave fanfic writing a try 🥰

Welcome to the Secret Sword First Annual Holiday Exchange!

The first annual Secret Sword Holiday exchange is being hosted this year by the Michael Demiurgos Appreciation Society. It is where individuals can sign up to be a “secret santa” for another artist/author/vidder/fanwork creator within the fandom. More details provided below the cut

Participants will sign up on the accompanying google form (link provided below). Please read through the rules and dates first before going to sign up :) 

A. The rules:

1)     This is a pro-Michael event. As a result, Michael must be the main focus of the artwork/fan work created.

2)     This is an open space for works that feature Michael. So if you want to request aroace Michael, gay Michael, straight Michael, Michael more like comics canon…etc., then the event runners will try and pair you with a buddy/santa who is inclined to create works like that. All types of Michaels and Michael-works are valid, and the event is to celebrate all the different types of fanworks that can be made with Michael.

3)     The one corollary to this is that we do not/won’t allow underage romantic pairing works in this event. So, any romantic pairing ideas or prompts from a requestor must feature a character over 18 years of age to be paired with Michael.

4)     The due dates are important. It helps the runners be able to make sure everyone gets a work in the exchange. If you feel you are running out of time or can’t participate, let the runners know as soon as possible so that pinch hitters/reserve list people can take up the work. We just need to be kept aware if circumstances change for participants during the holidays. Similarly, please try and get all works in on time.

5)     Be nice to each other. When reading/viewing/seeing the posted once they are unveiled, if it’s not your cup of tea, then you don’t have to comment. Try and just be like Thumper from the movie Bambi. If you can’t say anything nice, just don’t say anything at all.

6)     This event will not tolerate flames or attacks on fanworks from members participating in the event.

7)     After the names of the artists are revealed, you can feel free to take credit and add the stories to your own accounts and collections. Before then, the stories/art/works will be emailed to the event runners so that they can be posted anonymously at the main Ao3 collection and the lists/links posted as well to Tumblr and Facebook.

8)     During the anonymous posting stage, the works will be kept secret to give the fandom and your Secret Sword partner time to guess who did the work for them.

C. The Sign-ups:

 2)     You will need to list what type of fanwork you can provide, three prompts or ideas you’d like in the gift for you, and also list both three things you do not want in a potential gift. You will also be asked to provide any triggers or squicks that you can’t provide in works you create. It’s okay if you have certain plots/themes/kinks you can’t/won’t create, but the runners want to know in advance if possible, so that we can make pairings that work best for everyone in the exchange.

 3)     Also, in the sign-ups, you should note if you can be a pinch hitter/someone who can help create extra fanworks in case someone drops out. You definitely do not have to sign up for that, but it’s always appreciated to have some reserve fan creators on hand.

 4)     Finally, do note that while all participants are asked to provide three prompts for their paired Secret Sword to choose from while making their gift, that the creations only need to use one prompt. You can aim to integrate all three prompts for your own Secret Sword buddy if you want, but only one prompt of the available three has to be used in the fanwork for the exchange.

For a "neopagan" or whoever wants to follow the Nordic pantheon, which position is the "correct" one? Faithfully follow their traditions as testified by the sagas even though they contravene current customs and "calendars" or adapt it as best as possible to current times and our natural environment? Example: if the Nordics celebrated a propitiation at the end of the harvests at the end of autumn, should we do it following their autumn or ours according to latitude/longitude? I hope I was clear. Excuse my English, I use a translator

I think that it would be difficult not to adapt your festival dates to local conditions. I don't think that you could insist that you're celebrating the coming of the cold and dark at vetrnætr when it is, in fact, transitioning into summer. If someone told me it were the "darkest night of the year" at 21:00 and there's still some sunlight, I think I'd have a hard time taking that person seriously.

The truth is that all of the heathen calendars that we know about from Scandinavia did adapt things for local conditions and customs, even if those differences were more minor. One of the reasons modern heathens argue so much about calendars is that they don't understand that there can be more than one heathen calendar, and they are trying to resolve differences that don't need to be resolved. For example, people fight over whether dísablót should be held in the beginning of winter or end of winter, because there are texts describing dísablót in Norway around vetrnætr, and dísaþing in Sweden when winter was almost over. There's really nothing confusing about this; there were different customs in different places (and dísaþing was not even the same type of celebration as dísablót anyway, but heathens see the word dís and cannot imagine they were independent celebrations). Yet, heathens argue over which is the "correct" date. (this also means that someone in the southern hemisphere could pick either one to model their own celebration)

Things become even more diverse when we talk about aspects of the calendar beyond the major celebrations (höfuðblót). Traditional names of the months and moons usually come from what work needs to be done or what is happening in the environment at that time of year, such as sáðtíð 'seed-time' in late April, heyannir 'hay-working' at midsummer, frermánuður 'freezing-month' in late November.

On the other hand, if someone in the southern hemisphere wanted to use the word jól to give a name to the celebration they have during the summer, and adapt the way they celebrate it to make sense with long days and hot weather (but maybe also with gift-giving, if you do that), I don't see anything wrong with that. There's nothing about the actual word jól itself that says it has to be when it's cold out. In fact, the timing of jól has already been moved as part of Scandinavian history (from January to December). Almost everyone in the northern hemisphere celebrates jól at about the same time as Christmas, for a long list of reasons, even though it was originally in January. So I couldn't blame anyone else for celebrating it at about the same time as Christmas, even when Christmas is in the summer.

There is one other change that I would make if I were in the southern hemisphere, personally. I use a lunisolar calendar with 12 or 13 months, that adjusts based on the winter solstice. The midwinter-moon is the first full moon cycle following the winter solstice. If that happens too early, then a thirteenth month is added in the middle of summer. If I were in the southern hemisphere, I would change this so that the calculation is based on the summer solstice, and I would add a month to the middle of winter. The reason is that then there would always be the same amount of months for both the northern and southern hemisphere; not sometimes 12 months in the north and 13 in the south, and the other way around. Where I live, this doesn't actually matter, because almost no heathens are using a lunisolar calendar around here, but I don't know the situation in the southern hemisphere.

So basically, I think that adjusting to local conditions makes the most sense, but since we live in a globally-interconnected world sometimes those local conditions involve being influenced by non-local conditions. I don't think that there is always one unambiguously correct way to handle this.

hi, this is Tierfal! first item to note: I am running this by myself. that means that I will need your help and cooperation to make this work. it also means that if you have a problem with Roy/Ed (or with ANY ship that is tagged properly), you should find another gift exchange.

please leave yourself some time to work on your sign-up form! the form has a lot of checkboxes to try to make matching easier, better, and more efficient, because it’s just me and my spreadsheets here, pals. please go in with a few different ideas about both pairings and some gen/character favorites that you would be willing to receive gifts about!

if there are individuals in the fandom that you would not be comfortable creating for or receiving from, there will be a place to include usernames – but no one will be barred from participating, so please keep that in mind. you probably don’t have to worry about full-blown antis. antis do not like me. :D

please, please do not sign up unless you are committed to this, you will do everything possible to get your gift completed on time, and you are willing to be communicative during the months of November and December. last-minute drop-outs and radio silence make running events like this a nightmare. please don’t do that to me. :(

if you are under 18, you are welcome to participate! the only restriction is that the gift that you give (and the one you receive) must be at a T/PG-13 rating or lower, so that none of us go to jail. that would be a disappointing holiday present.

How much do I need to create? It depends on your creative process – please aim for a relatively “finished” piece of art, or a fanfic of at minimum 1,000 words, or the approximate equivalent in whatever medium you work in.

 If you’re going to miss the deadline, let me know ASAP so that I can find a pinch-hitter. If you think you’ll have the start of a finished piece by the deadline (e.g. first section of a longer fic, first panel of a comic), feel free to post that, as long as you’re sure that you’ll be able to finish later. :)

Personal Holidays

I've had this post in my drafts for a few weeks now, but thanks to the request of a member of the discord server, I decided to keep working on it.

Kemetic holidays are varied and numerous, to the point where there were over 200 holidays celebrated in Ancient Egypt. Obviously that's way too many to celebrate, so I've cut them down to make it easier for worship and celebration. This post is meant to share a little bit about my practice regarding holidays. You don't have to practice this way if you don't want to!

Wep Ronpet

Perhaps the most well-known of all Kemetic holidays. Wep Ronpet is considered the new year: celebrated when the star Sirius would rise for the first time and coinciding with the flooding of the Nile.

Because I don't live in Egypt, and so I don't have the ability to see when the Nile is flooding, I typically celebrate when most of North America celebrates: the first week of August. This is one of the two large feasts I have during the year. I worship all of the Netjeru by giving them thanks and I ask for a prosperous new age. I like to do a lot of cooking. Some recipes I make during this time are beef stews, various types of breads, and different teas as well!

Fest of Djehuty

This is one I celebrate during the first week of September, or around that time. As Lord Djehuty is a Netjer of knowledge, and September is the time to return to school, I take this time to dedicate all of my studying to him. I don't bake (I won't do that until December), but I will give offerings in the form of study sessions and poetry.

Fest of Anpu

This time of the year is when all things turn towards the darkness, and life begins to die. It's a colder, more somber time of the year. To celebrate that, I worship Lord Anpu. I like to give him offerings of dogs (not killing them, but maybe I'll draw him a picture, or I'll spend time at a shelter). I've noticed he likes marigold and sandalwood, so I like to offer those things when I'm able to. I celebrate the Fest of Anpu during the first week of October.

Fest of Wesir

Everything has died out at this point, and no green is left. This is the first week of November, and I actually just finished this celebration a few days ago! For Lord Wesir, I opt to give him things such as wine, bones, plants, and crops. He's not too picky from my experience.

Feast of the Netjeru

This is essentially what I call my "Kemetic Christmas", as it takes place during December! It's pretty much a Christmas: I like to give people gifts in the name of the Netjeru, I cook and bake a lot like during Wep Ronpet, and I love having big bonfires. During this time I like to write wishes on pinecones or other things and burn them in a bonfire. These are my wishes for the upcoming Gregorian new year, and I like to sing a little song as they fly off into the night as ashes.

Fest of Sekhmet

The first celebration of the Gregorian new year is devoted to one of my beloveds. As Lady Sekhmet is a war goddess, I like to celebrate this in January due to the bitter chill that reminds me of her. I offer her a lot of bones, cinnamon, cool stones I find, and more! She seems to really enjoy alcohol as well, so I'll have a drink with her occasionally.

Fest of Sebek

This is celebrated during the first week of February, when things begin to turn to the light. Lord Sebek is a ruler of fertility, and so I like to offer him fresh fruits and vegetables, specifically ones that I have grown indoors by myself. He seems to really love melons and citrus, so I make sure to bake a lot of treats with those!

Fest of Renenutet

In March, we're getting very close to flowers and warmth. This is the time where a lot of crops are able to be planted where I am, so I worship Lady Renenutet during this time. She's not too picky about what I do to worship her, and she seems very happy with however I choose to honor her.

Fest of Wadjet

April! The time of flowers, rain, and greenery. Lady Wadjet is my focus during this time of the year, and I offer her anything of substance I can get my hands on. Freshly cut flowers from a tree, fruits from the garden, the purest of river water. Lady Wadjet really likes it when I cook stew and bread for her, so I always make that. Her favorite fruits are figs, peaches, watermelon, and pears! She seems to really like my peach donuts.

Fest of Ra

As May is the time of the rising sun, as we almost come to the solstice. Lord Ra rules over this time, and I honor him. He seems to not like a lot of baking, as he's often refused some of the things I've baked for him. Instead, he prefers sunflowers and tiger lilies. He also really likes beetles, which I believe is due to his connection to Khepri.

Fest of Khnum

Lord Khnum is a softer spoken deity. He's very quite, and so I worship him during June. I spent this time of the year reflecting on what came before, and thinking of how I can do better for the next year. I try to recover from a stressful school year, and as such I will do self-care and curl up into a bit of a cocoon. Lord Khnum is always by my side during this time.

Fest of Heru

And finally, Lord Heru is the one I worship and honor during the last month of the year. He is a glorious being, and as king of the Netjeru I try to give him the respect he deserves. I do this by finding as many offerings as I can. He likes more materialistic things in my experience, so I offer him a lot of jewelry and crystals.

A few weeks ago I asked whether people would be interested in a very low-stakes holiday-themed activity—and some of you said yes! So, here it is. The official post for what I tentatively called “Secret Beyfam” but what I am now calling “Beymas”...I’m not set on this name. Feel free to make suggestions. 

Below is a more detailed explanation than the one provided in the previous post as well as answers to some potential questions that you may have.

What’s the deal? 

I will be running the name of Beybladers from Seasons 1 to 3 through a Secret Santa generator. 

If you choose to participate, you will receive a DM from me with the name of a pair of Beybladers: one gift giver, and one gift receiver. 

For example, you might get a message that says: 

Gift Giver: Mathilda; Gift Receiver: Gao/Gary

With your assigned duo, you will create something related to the interaction between the gift giver and the receiver. You might choose to focus on the process of choosing the present. You might choose to focus on the gift being given. You might focus on the receiver during the interaction. 

Following your period of creativity, you post your work to Tumblr (or to the platform of your choice with a link share via Tumblr), and you’re done!

Will I be assigned to exchange content with another Tumblr user? 

No. This is not an exchange between Tumblr users. You will be creating content to share with the community at large.

When is this happening?

If I get my ish together then I plan to send out character pairs on November 27 (stay tuned for me not having my ish together). 

Ideally, creations will be shared by December 31, 2022 (in the timezone of your choice).

How do I let you know I would like to participate?

Wtf do I make? 

While your mind may immediately go fic orart, there are lots of other options here. Some of these pairs of characters may be obscure, so you might not know much about them or how they interact, and since this time of year can be busy, you may not feel like you have the time to hash out the details. Below is a list of potential options if you don’t feel like blasting out a fic or art:

A powerpoint…(I’m not sure where I am going with PowerPoint, but please feel free).

Does this have to be romantic? 

Absolutely not. This is a fun time to explore dynamics. You may have a pair of teammates. You may have one character who hates the person they need to buy a gift for. You may have two characters who have never met, and the giver may feel fully out of their depth because they don't know their gift receiver well. Maybe you HC your pair of characters as having broken up. Endless possibilities. If you happen to ship the pair of characters you’ve been assigned, feel free to go the romantic route, of course, but there is not expectation or requirement to make this romantic at all.

Note: I do encourage you, if your characters don’t get along, to still maintain the gift-giving aspect as that is the point of the "exercise", and the fact of the matter is that I’m sure many of us have had office gift exchanges where we’ve had to give something to someone we aren’t too keen on (at least I surely have) 😂.

I don’t like my two characters. Can I get two other ones? 

In the interest of fairness, no.

I have an OC. Can my OC be included? 

So long as you are highlighting the gift giving and receiving between your two assigned characters, feel free to include anyone else you want (including other Beyblade characters and OCs). Perhaps your OC organized the gift exchange. Perhaps they are helping with the brainstorming. OCs welcome. 

I HC that one of my characters would not participate in a gift exchange like this. 

This could be a point of conflict in what you’re making, or you could have the character in question have a l’il outside of HC fun. I leave it to you.

I thought I had time to participate but I cannot. 

No problem! 

I think this sounds a bit silly and I don’t want to do it.

Transiting Mars enters Sagittarius

Friday, November 24, 2023 - Thursday, January 4, 2024

You know - there probably is no placement with better intentions than Mars in Sagittarius. They always mean so well! But we all know what the road to hell is (said to be) paved with, right?

This whole transit seems to me to be all about showing us where we’re being officious, interfering, and meddlesome - where we tend to jump right on in without checking first - where we skydive (and not merely jump) to conclusions. If we’re on some high-faluting cockamamie quest, too, it is likely to be pointed out to us during this time. How it manifests in Mars’ areas:

Physical strength - maybe we think we gently shut that door, but the broken window pane says otherwise. Or, we aren’t realistic about how much we can actually do, and quickly burn out &/or injure ourselves.

Energy levels - as with Mars in any mutable sign, this will fluctuate. At times we’re raring to go; at other times we drop in our tracks from exhaustion.

Sexuality - can be very gallant and chivalrous and romantic, but watch out for those stamina levels.

How we go after what we want - we tend to make a big deal out of it. Always more into the pursuit than the actual capture. Now that you have it, what are you going to do with it?

Luckily Mars/Sagittarius is (usually) good-humored, and can rise to the occasion if it chooses. Give the following occasions a couple of days on either side:

Thursday, November 30 - Mars/Sagittarius inconjunct Vesta Rx/Cancer, 4°40’. Difficulty focusing; if we’re in a romantic scenario this may manifest as “performance issues.”

Friday, December 1 - Mars/Sagittarius semi-sextile Pallas Athene/Scorpio, 5°25’. Feeling like we could/should be smarter about how we’re dealing with something, but not knowing how to do that. (Yet.)

Sunday, December 3 - Mars/Sagittarius inconjunct Jupiter Rx/Taurus, 6°49’. We might really go overboard with this one, perhaps in appetite - and pay for it with health or digestive problems.

Monday, December 4 - Mars/Sagittarius (7°19’) sesquisquare North Node/Aries (22°19’), semi-square South Node/Libra (22°19’). Our timing is a bit off; we know what we should do but (again) can’t quite get it together. Delays.

Thursday, December 7 - Mars/Sagittarius (9°16’) sesquisquare Eris Rx/Aries (24°16’). Someone isn’t getting their own way, and they’re angry - let’s hope we aren’t the ones losing their tempers.

Wednesday, December 13 - Mars/Sagittarius (13°49’) semi-square Pluto/Capricorn (28°49’). The way we’ve been operating doesn’t work any more. It’s time to let go of old, useless methods.

Friday, December 15 - Mars/Sagittarius trine Chiron Rx/Aries, 15°30’. Finally, a trine! This is an excellent time for “making it up” to someone, and relationships become more fun.

We then have a very dreadful stretch between Wednesday, December 20 - Saturday, December 23:

Mars/Sagittarius conjunct Mercury Rx/Sagittarius, 24°21’

Open mouth insert hoof, er, foot? The tendency is to just blurt stuff right out, without thinking (thanks, Neptune). The truth hurts; honesty is supposed to be the best policy, but here we need to temper it with some generosity of spirit.

Sunday, December 31 - Mars/Sagittarius opposite Vesta Rx/Gemini, 27°04’. More difficulties with focus and fluctuating stamina - except this time, it’s the other person.

Wednesday, January 3 - Mars/Sagittarius semi-sextile Pluto/Capricorn, 29°26’. These two are approaching their conjunction (which aspect happens about every two years). We have some intimations about how our Mars expression will “power up” a level.

Let me add that Mars’ next transit, though Capricorn, has plenty of blessings and opportunities - and, Mars works very well when he’s in Capricorn, the sign of his exaltation.
