A 17-year-old Houston student is suing her high school after she was kicked out for not standing for the daily Pledge of Allegiance, indicative of a troubling backlash many African Americans are facing when they choose not to stand for the pledge or national anthem.
The New York Daily News reports that India Landry, a senior at Windfern High School, has sat “hundreds of times” during the pledge since she was in ninth grade. However, Principal Martha Strother expelled her Monday for her action.
A federal lawsuit brought against the school alleges that India was threatened by police if her mother did not come within five minutes, and that the administrators at the school had “recently been whipped into a frenzy” by the controversy caused by NFL players kneeling for the national anthem.
India tells the News that she started sitting for the pledge in ninth grade and that “police brutality” and “Donald Trump being president” are her reasons.
India is only one of many students and others who are facing repercussions for standing up against police brutality and racism in America by following former NFL player Colin Kaepernick’s lead of kneeling during the national anthem during the 2016 football season.
Twitter is rife with stories of African Americans being threatened or catcalled and having drinks thrown on them, or even having the police come to their homes, for exercising their constitutional right to protest.

favourite piece of dialogue: i haven’t written a lot for starsong yet, but i know it’s going to be INCREDIBLY fun to write the climax/reveal of aastra’s identity.
favourite wiring snack or drink: CHOCOLATE!! and cold water. i break off a piece of chocolate and try to race myself to finish three sentences/a paragraph/whatever before it fully melts. and cold water because it keeps me alert! i tend to prefer to be really warm so i can risk getting sleepy if i don’t have something to ground me.

The state of Texas is backing a school that expelled a black student after she refused to stand for the flag during the US Pledge of Allegiance.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton intervened on Tuesday to defend the Houston-area school district in its lawsuit with the student, India Landry.
Ms Landry, 18, filed a lawsuit after she was expelled last year from Windfern High School.
The case comes amid political tensions over respect for the American flag.
"School children cannot unilaterally refuse to participate in the pledge," Mr Paxton - the state's most senior law enforcement officer - said in a news release.
***
Mr Paxton submitted a court filing referring to a Texas state law that allows parents to submit a letter stating that their child will not stand for the pledge.
But he says standing is not optional for students who do not have parental permission.
"Requiring the pledge to be recited at the start of every school day has the laudable result of fostering respect for our flag and a patriotic love of our country," Mr Paxton said in the legal brief.

On Monday, Oct. 2, Windfern High School student India Landry was sent to the school’s principal office for texting on her cell phone. While in the office, according to the complaint, the Pledge of Allegiance came on over the school’s intercom and Landry continued sitting.
When Principal Martha Strother asked Landry to stand, the 17-year-old declined. According to the complaint, Strother told Landry, “Well you’re kicked outta here.” Strother’s secretary also allegedly told Landry, “This is not the NFL.”
According to the complaint, Landry sat for the Pledge of Allegiance “around 200 times in class through six of more teachers without incident.”
Landry was sent home, and three days later she and her mother met with Strother. According to the complaint, Strother told them that Landry must stand for the pledge to be let back into school.
The next day, Friday, Oct. 6 — after KHOU Channel 11 aired a segment on Landry and the controversy — Landry was allowed back in school and told that she could sit during the pledge, according to the lawsuit.
Landry’s lawsuit is seeking judgment that the student’s civil rights were violated. The family is asking for unspecified damages.

The Pledge Of Allegiance Is Religious Indoctrination
youtube
Land of the thieves, home of the slaves… with obedience and plunder for all.
“America” often seems like a mental patient with a split personality.
While it sometimes pretends to champion the notion of freedom, the USSA simultaneously works tirelessly to destroy it.
Pay Your Taxes (extortion) …
Ask permission (regulation) to do almost anything including cutting hair...
Submit to Searches and Seizures ...
And don’t forget to Pledge Your Allegiance to the sacred cloth each morning. Out loud, with your hand over your heart.
That last one is particularly creepy and nefarious.
Imagine how conflicted a young child’s mind is when they’re forced to declare subservience while reciting words that proclaim a desire for “liberty and justice.”
Every day. In unison.
It’s the ultimate in ironic contradictions, and while parts of the pledge ostensibly emphasize the importance of individual freedom, US history is rife with cases of the government penalizing school children---of all people---when they don’t stand for it.
Most recently in the news is the case of India Landry, a Texas student who was expelled from Windfern High School for refusing to stand for the mandatory cultic oath.
In other words: America punished this girl for exercising too much liberty in the “land of the free, home of the brave.”
India’s courage to stand for her principles (rather than blindly worship her rulers) is actually backed by a long history of legal precedent, including a 1943 Supreme Court ruling.
A lawsuit has now been filed against the school, while Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton used the “parental permission” excuse to justify siding with the state.
“Requiring the pledge to be recited at the start of every school day has the laudable result of fostering respect for our flag and a patriotic love of our country,” said the Authoritarian Goon.
What Paxton really means is, it has the “laudable” result of turning children into brainwashed servants of statism, the most dangerous religion.
Pop Quiz!
Which country is more likely to impose a compulsory, daily vow of allegiance to the government?
A) America, Land of the Free B) Communist China
See what I did there?
There’s just no excusing this antiquated ritual, especially not in a nation espousing “freedom” as a core value.
The truth is, a “country” can never foster freedom---it’s a contradiction.
It’s the reason people from all over the world are seeking true freedom by voluntarily organizing to celebrate and manifest what could be.
This past February, it was my honor to host Anarchapulco, an annual gathering that proves freedom fighters, liberty lovers and freethinkers of all walks of life can come together peacefully without a centrally-planned mafia owning us.
Anarchapulco 2018 was such a success, with incredible visionaries like Ron Paul and even members of Wu-Tang Clan showing up, that next year’s is already shaping up to be the most remarkable event the liberty movement has ever seen.
Of course, we’ve already got Dr. Paul confirmed to speak again, as well as many other inspiring influencers like Andrew Napolitano, Doug Casey, Cynthia McKinney, David Icke, and more.
We’ve already sold more tickets for 2019 than we sold in all of 2018 and there is still four months left to go. It will sell out so if you haven’t already, be sure to reserve yours before they’re gone (BOOK NOW).
No pledge of allegiance necessary, because good ideas don’t require force.
