Miten suomen kielessä on kaks sanaa konseptille "olla tarpeeksi aikaa tehdä jotain" (ehtiä, keretä) ja englannin kielessä ei ole yhtäkään? Miten ne elää näin?

One of my favourite word... variation? portmanteau? in Finnish has to be "perkelöityä". It basically means "to escalate", but it's been combined with "perkele", the most famous Finnish (swear) word. So in English, it would mean... to escalate to a hellish, demonic degree? I don't know. I love it, though.

Hey wait a second.
I'm listening to the scene in Re:Dracula where Jonathan travels in the mountains with the wolves and like. Dracula can control wolves, right? He could have told them to back the fuck off at any time. But instead he let them threaten Jonathan so he could swoop in and save him.
Isn't it like. One mental abuse tactic? To set up a bad situation for the victim so the abuser can then help them out of it and look like a good person so the victim becomes even more dependent on the abuser?

It boggles my mind that most adaptations of Dracula make Jonathan a wet tissue paper of a man when it was shown from the start that he has guts when he ate the paprika that was so spicy that he drank his whole night carafe, woke up the next morning and had more paprika for breakfast. A lesser Victorian British man would've died on impact with the first paprika dish.

hey,
Hey, Sweden, hey,
Hey, Sweden, Gävle specifically, listen, I'm speaking directly into your ear now,
Idk if it's a thing in Sweden, but in Finland we have this tradition of bonfires-
Listen, Gävle, I'm reaching over the isle, offering some cultural exchange, listen, let's do a bonfire, together, let's just, that goat of yours, our bonfires, are you picking up what I'm putting down, a little cultural exchange, listen, are you catching my drift, listen, Nordic Solidarity, listen, Gävle, listen-

I'm not super eloquent about this nor can I get Sources because I'm supposed to be studying but I suddenly remembered that a museum in the UK refused to return marble statues to Greece because they didn't think that Greek museums would take proper care of them, then a few years later the same museum was exposed for having cleaned the statues in ways that could have damaged them.

So to my foreign moots who can't read the Finnish news articles I reblogged earlier: Sweden is finally returning the Finnish skulls that they stole in the 1800's.
Why did they steal them? To prove that Finns were scientifically inferior to Swedes. I'm not kidding. It was a whole thing in the 1800's. Swedes were trying to prove that Finns are related to Mongolians so they could think of Finns as "not white" or different (inferior) race as them.
Why did it take them this long to return them? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As your resident Finn and in light of Berlusconi's death, I have to tell the English side of tumblr the story of Berlusconi pizza, a tale of shittalking and pettiness.
In the early 2000's (I can't find an exact) the European Food Safety Authority made a competition on who has the best food in Europe. Italy won that competition and Berlusconi (sore winner) said that Finnish food is bad (not super incorrect, but come on, dude, you already won).
Then in 2008, The America's Plate International Pizza Competition rewards Finland for having the best pizza in the world. The pizza had smoked reindeer, tomato, cheese, red onion and Finnish chantarelles. Kotipizza, a Finnish pizza restaurant chain, named the pizza Berlusconi, after the politician. Italian media called it "blood revenge".
The pizza is still being sold and in the year 2022 it was ordered about 150 000 times. Its name was changed to "Poro" (the Finnish word for "reindeer") in May 2023 to make it more clear, easy to remember to the Finnish audience and to fit with the naming convention of the restaurant.
