Saint Vincent of Saragossa, the Protomartyr of Spain was a deacon of the Church of Saragossa. Legend has it that he was traveling by a vineyard and his donkey nibbled on some of the vine stocks. At harvest, those stocks produced more fruit than the ones that were not pruned. Thus the reason for him being the patron of vinegar and winemakers. During the persecution of Diocletian, he was imprisoned and cruelly tortured for refusing to renounce the faith. In prison, he converted his jailer before dying of his wounds. His body was cast into a field to be devoured by vultures but was defended by a raven. It was then cast into the sea with a millstone around his neck, but miraculously arrived at the shore, found by a lady, and was honorably buried. {website}

Mammoth Bones Found During Wine Cellar Renovation in Austria

A set of mammoth bones have been discovered in a wine cellar in Austria during renovation works.

The remains, which could represent at least three individual animals, are thought to be between 30,000 and 40,000 years old.

A local winegrower, Andreas Pernerstorfer, made the finds in his wine cellar, which is located in Gobelsburg, in the district of Krems, west of Vienna.

After spotting the bones, Pernerstorfer, reported the finds to the Austrian Federal Monuments Office, which then referred the winegrower to the Archaeological Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW).

A statement issued by the OeAW described the discovery as the most significant of its kind in the country for more than 100 years.

Archaeologists have uncovered several layers of mammoth bones in the wine cellar, as well as stone artifacts and charcoal. These latter finds helped to shed light on the age of the mammoth bones.

"Such a dense bone layer of mammoths is rare. It's the first time we've been able to investigate something like this in Austria using modern methods," Hannah Parow-Souchon with the OeAW, who is leading the excavation at the wine cellar site, said in a press release.

Around 150 years ago, a similar discovery was made in Gobelsburg. Then, researchers uncovered a thick layer of bones, alongside flint artifacts, decorative fossils and charcoal, in an adjacent cellar in Gobelsburg.

The latest discovery from Gobelsburg could help shed light on how prehistoric humans hunted mammoths.

"We know that humans hunted mammoths, but we still know very little about how they did it," Parow-Souchon said.

Archaeologists suggest that the location where the mammoth bones were found in Pernerstorfer's cellar could be the place where the animals died. It is possible that people chased the creatures into this spot and set some kind of trap for them.

Researchers are currently examining the mammoth remains in an attempt to uncover new insights. The remains will subsequently be transferred to the Natural History Museum Vienna, where the bones will be restored.

◾The "Smedervska jesen" is one of the most important agricultural-tourism-economic events in Serbia. It is held every year in September in Smederevo, with the aim of presenting high-quality agricultural products, a rich tourist offer as well as the economic potential of the Smederevo region. The first manifestation was held at the end of the 19th century. For the first three exhibitions that were held before the Second World War, the central event was the Exhibition of Grapes and the selection of winegrowers. During the first exhibition, a festive party with a dance was held on the first day, and a banquet was organized on the last day of the exhibition. The program included a visit to the vineyard of His Majesty the King of Serbia Aleksandar I Obrenović in Plavinac and private vineyards, as well as a demonstration of working with a mulcher. After the Second World War, the preparation of the exhibition is only one segment in a multitude of programs of a different character. The event is conditionally divided into an economic, sports, cultural and entertainment part. The commercial part presents an exhibition of grapes, wine and fruit and other economic branches of the city. In addition to this, the manifestation has a number of content and programs of a sports, entertainment and cultural character, the number, content and quality of which vary from manifestation to manifestation. In 1989, the event began with a ceremonial parade through the streets of the city with about 500 participants. That practice has been maintained to this day. Since 2000, a larger number of programs have been introduced that have the prefix ethno in their name. In this period, the program of cultural and historical content, which takes place in the Smederevo Fortress, is established. It is, first of all, the program of the knightly brotherhood "SVIBOR" and stage representations of the despot Đurđ Branković and his family. I’m very curious about your vineyard AU!

I originally talked about it here (also called champagne AU), and since then it has gained a Words doc and it is somewhat outlined but I still haven't written much for it.

Obi-Wan is a winegrower who makes champagne form start to finish, he grows the vines, makes the champagne and sells it.

(Why champagne? Because that's what my grandparents did so I know more about it than about wine.)

In September (usually) the winegrowers hire workers for about a week or two to harvest the grape. (Where I worked they hire between 10 and 15 people for one week to harvest 4 hectares (almost 10 acres)), so here Anakin is a seasonal worker that comes back every year for the harvest, and year after year he and Obi-Wan fell in love.

I'm planning on doing 8 or 9 chapters: one for every day of the harvest during which they'll pine and flirt a lot then finally get together, and an epilogue (though I might shorten it, I'm not sure I have something interesting to add to every day, it's rather repetitive work to cut grapes all day lol)

Here's the only thing that I have actually written (unedited), which is the very beginning of the fic:

"It was almost that time of the year again: grape harvest. It was rather early this time, starting on the last day of august, but Anakin certainly wasn’t going to complain, an earlier harvest meant he would see Obi-Wan earlier. It had been almost a year since they had last seen each other (except for the few texts they exchanged to inform Anakin of the dates of the harvest, and to confirm that he would be there)(as if he would miss it for anything in the world). They could text each other during the year too, but Obi-Wan never did and Anakin was too worried he would find it annoying. Maybe he didn’t miss Anakin the way Anakin missed him. Maybe he didn’t count down each day until the next harvest. Or maybe he did, he was a winegrower after all, and the harvest was one of the most important part of the champagne making process, but he probably didn’t count down the days until he would see Anakin again.

Anakin wasn’t an idiot, he knew Obi-Wan liked him, as a friend, and as a good, reliable and efficient worker. But there was no way he loved Anakin. Although, in the last couple of years there had been moments where Anakin thought that maybe, just maybe, he might actually have the tiniest chance."
