Issue Twenty-Four: Love Potion
Tumblr media
Jester Comic Jester Comic Jester Comic Jester-
Tumblr media
Um fnsbdnsksbs girlie???
Tumblr media
I'm so obsessed with Stella's top jacket and headband 🥰 so so cute
Musa is so adorable as well 😍😍😍
Bloom, why, just, why
Tumblr media
Imagine opening a book and it's just "make a motorcycle outfit appear, for second years" I'm so obsessed
Tumblr media
They are so cute!!!! Love all their outfits!!!
Flora's off the shoulder sweater 😍 Aisha's sweater vest over the open button up 😍 Tecna's thigh highs and electric horns 😍 Musa's sideways music note 😍
Bloom's is very mid next to Tecna's
Tumblr media
This is so so so cute, most couple ever
So adorable 🥰🥰🥰
Tumblr media
Shilly, stop trying to be a home wrecker plzz
Tumblr media
Shilly stuttering when talking to Icy is everything to me, she so clearly is confused and freaked out by Icy talking to her and then remembers Icy doesn't have her memory
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Important question for this comic
Uh why the fuck does Icy do this??? Boredom??? Because the only reasonable answer is boredom
This actually gets more confusing later on, but we get there when we get there
Tumblr media
Comics Tecna you are not my baby girl even a little bit 💓 Look at how they massacre my girl
Tumblr media
THAT IS SO UNSANITARY!!!! FUCKING AWFUL!!
Tumblr media
NFNSBJWEJBEBRNWNWBWBW SHILLY ACCIDENTALLY MAKES STELLA IN LOVE WITH HER ALT CON THATS HILARIOUS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why does this random ass student dislike Stella so much??
"She was always so full of herself just because she had a boyfriend"
incorrect, Stella is always full of her self
But also Stella literally save Alfea form being destroyed, learn some fucking respect
Tumblr media
I have no comment, I am rolling on the floor
Nothing to see here folks
Also Bloom you wouldn't be saying this if it was Sky
Tumblr media
Look at Musa's sweater 😍 she's so adorable I'm obsessed, she looks super cute in orange
Hate the under shirt tho
Tumblr media
SERIOUSLY WHY DID SHE DO THIS!!! IF SHE JUST WANTED TO UPSET THE WINX AND CAUSE DRAMA SHE WOULDN'T TELL SHILLY THIS!!! WHAT IS GOING THOUGH HER HEAD!!!
Literally the only explanation is wavy she wanted to exert control over someone and control their actions though her words, because that's the only thing she gains from this situation
Which is an interesting characterization of Icy as a toxic manipulator who enjoys dragging people around to her whims, but that's never stated, so my only recourse is to assume that the writers don't even know and just wanted this plot to happen
Also they somehow made Icy's top WORSE
Tumblr media
Bloom is literally just watching this without doing anything, amazing job looking out for your friends
Even if Brandon's been acting weird, this is v good evidence that isn't his fault, and you don't sit there and observe what's happening. You confront Shilly about what she's doing because maybe she's making it WORSE
Tumblr media
This moment is really sweet tho, god I hope Shilly becomes a reoccurring character as a witch who is friends and helps the Winx bc all witches are evil is sooooo annoying to me
Tumblr media
"I prefer to win you over, day after day!"
THAT IS SO FUCKING CUTE!!! MOST COUPLE OF ALL TIME FOLKS!!! THEY ARE THE BEST!!

Crack theory for (what the heck month are we in? April?)
What if the reason fairies and witches call the names of their attacks isn’t for spell activation purposes?
Like maybe the first dozen times it is to set the spell, but after that what if they do it because it’s just an ingrained training habit to let their allies know what they’re about to do so they can get out of the way?
And it’s only teams that have been together for a long time and are familiar with each other and each other’s spells that stop yelling out the attack name?
It’s not Enchantment, it’s Team Communication.

Winx Club Alternate History
An Alternative History of the Winx Club Universe, Stretching the very confusing retcons into a timeline.
Takes place in the same Alternate Continuity as my other Alt Canon Winx posts.
1400 years (ish) before Winx Club
A coven of Dark Wizards called The Black Circle Hunt Fairies for sport and magical gain, they develop a magical Immunity to Fairy Magic and terrorise large portions of the Magical Universe.
Queen Morgana of the Earth Fairies, along with her court, and Husband – The Wizard Myrrdin – create a magical effect, which changes the fabric of Earth Fairy Magic on a previously unseen level.
The Effect of the magical alteration allows the Fairies of Earth to Overcome the Black Circle's Immunity, though it does not dispel it completely.
The Black Circle begin an offensive against the Earth Fairies, which ends in a stalemate, and both sides locked in Time Dilation fields. Myrrdin managed to lock the Dark Circle with a memory spell: So long as the Wizards are forgotten, they cannot be released.
Myrrdin and his son – oldest child of Queen Morgana, and older brother to the unborn Princess Dawn – are left outside the field, unable to break the Barrier around the Fairies, without risking the release of the Dark Circle. The Duo live out their lives on Earth, trying to find a way to save their loved ones, and stop the Dark Circle forever.
Before his death, Myrrdin creates a spell which enables any Earth Fairy to 'Bless' another fairy, granting them the ability to Overcome the Dark Circles Immunity. He turns himself into a tree to anchor the spell.
200 years (ish) before Winx Club
Princess Miriam of Domino attends Alfea, along side a young Faragonda and Griselda. Miriam is preparing to become the vessel of the Dragon Flame. During their time at Alfea, a dark power begins stalking Miriam, and attempting to break into the sacred vaults of the three schools.
After Miriam is kidnapped by a malicious entity known as Darkar, the two fairies team up with Saladin a young wizard trainee, Hagen and Oritel, two young heroes in training.
Once Miriam is rescued, the six are able to seal away Darkar in his castle of Shadowhaunt, sending him into a deep sleep like state, locking his castle behind them.
The adventure proved Miriam capable of protecting the Dragon Fire and she undertook the Rite of the Flame soon after. Once she had graduated and become the Guardian fairy of Domino, she and Oritel were married.
180 years (ish) before Winx Club
Princess Daphne of Domino has graduated from Alfea along side eight of her closest friends. After receiving the Dragon Flame, Daphne shares a small spark with her friends – the self proclaimed Nymphs of Magix – as they set out to protect the magical dimension.
150 years (ish) before Winx Club
Over thirty years, the Nymphs have been protecting Magix from dark forces, but suddenly they find themselves losing members left and right. With Daphne as one of the last Nymphs standing she realises the threat is coming from a single individual: a wizard by the name of Valtor.
With her last remaining companions, she sets out to stop Valtor. The final battle between the remaining Nymphs and Valtor takes place on Domino, as the corrupted form of a spark of the Dragon Flame, Valtor believes he can wield the 'true flame' and become unstoppable.
Having consumed several school's worth of magic, Valtor lays siege to Domino, and almost destroying the Domino forces completely. Seeing the truth of her mentor and lover, a young Griffin makes a choice, and joins the Nymphs and her frenemy Faragonda's 'Company of Light,' helping to imprison Valtor. He is sent off to the Omega dimension, to stay for all eternity.
In The wake of their pawn's (fail but devastating) attack, The Ancestral Witches attack Domino, seeking the 'True Flame' of the Dragon Fire, in order to become unstoppable. Realising the Witches intend to go after her baby sister, Daphne leaves the battle field to get the infant Princess Pyra to safety.
After granting her the connection to the Dragon Flame for protection, and sending her through a portal to former fairy godmother Adora, Daphne is unaware a curse sent by the witches has tumbled Pyra off course, causing the infant to skim the edge of a worn down Time Dilation field.
Before she can rejoin the battle, Miriam tasks Daphne with safe guarding the ancient spells of Domino, in case the Witches, like Valtor, attempt to consume them. As she begins to shift the Vault of the Sacred Flame into a side Dimension, Daphne is hit with a curse.
She herself becomes trapped between the two dimension, incapable of returning to the normal world or moving on completely to the other. She is suspended not just between worlds, but between life and death, her life frozen in the instant before the Witches' curse would have killed her.
Unable to act, Daphne watches as Domino is destroyed, cast into eternal, dark winter.
It takes Daphne decades to figure out how to manifest in different places, though she can only manage a few. She is unable to locate her sister, or even sense her or their mother via their link to the Dragon Flame, and believes them both dead.
16 years (ish) before Winx Club
After skimming the edge of the Dilation Field, Pyra is ejected from the field's effects dragging two others with her: new born Princess Dawn, and infant daughter of the Witch Mab.
Freed from the field, the remnants of Daphne's magic redirect the trio towards Adora, missing slightly. All three end up in the same town, though in different areas.
Dawn ends up drawn (by Empathetic Blood Magic) to her only living relative in the area, the many times great grandson of her brother, who, though unable to explain it, feels connected to the baby he finds on the sand by his new bar.
Mab's daughter is found by a couple unable (and desperate) to have children, in an alley way.
The spells around Pyra (for her protection) end up setting an entire block of apartments on fire, until she is picked up by someone who would care for her and take care of her.
Thus (the newly renamed) Roxy, Selina, and Bloom are adopted into normal families, and raised to a world that no longer believes in magic.
Pilot episode:
First Week of (Earth's) Summer Vacation, Bloom meets Stella.
 TL;DR
Not everything happened within the last twenty years.

Hands. Are. The Devil!!!!
Sansa Stark inspired Harmonix-esque outfit.
From the crack one-shot of Sansa magically transporting to 4546B after my brain reminded me that humans can’t actually survive unprotected very far down in the ocean.
Since I’d already done one inexplicable magical transport, and I couldn’t see how Sansa would have accessed to any in universe explanations for why Riley can dive so deep with none of normal side effects (ie. augmentations) my brain came up with Harmonix.
The colour palette is inspired by a combination of the Stark flag colours and the ‘wolf of the sea’ - the Orca.
-
Harmonix is a magical Fairy form from the Winx Club tv/cartoon series which is specifically for getting around underwater. In the Winx Alt Con it is earned by bonding with a magical being called a Selkie, and can be earned by anyone with enough magic.
Sansa is from a family of Wargs and Greenseers, and she canonically has what could be labeled as magic.
Just not enough to manifest wings, she is not a Fairy.

So do the worlds have like magic sources that influence a Magi’s source magic or is it based on heritage?
So Magi isn’t a term my AU uses, you’re likely thinking of @drops-of-moonlights ‘s winx redux, or @rowletlittenpopplioteam ‘s pending winx rewrite, or… was there someone else who was using the term? I feel like there was.
Ahhh! I’m so sorry if I’ve forgotten you!
But in terms of the rest of the question:
(It has cropped up in a few of my other posts, but I guess it’s always been background information by comparison to the rest of the posts?)
As I’ve mentioned in my various posts about the Worlds, they possess their own Thematic Magic, as part of their purpose in the Magical Dimension, and that Thematic Magic informs the types of Magics that people of that world are likely to be born with. IE:
Solaria is the Realm of the Sun, but its Thematic reach includes Celestial Bodies, and Light, as well as a few things related to those. Fairies* and Witches* born there have a high likelihood of having Thematic Magic of a similar alignment, be it the sun and moon, or a form of light.
But the “environmental factor” isn’t the only one.
Like with normal environmental adaptations, the inhabitants of the Worlds adapt to both the environment and the Thematic Magics of them.
When people immigrate to other worlds, their children will often exhibit mixed Themes, which is to say, a blending of the Thematic Magics of their environment and heritage.
For instance: (canon character) Nova of Solaria is the Fairy of Firelight, (within the Alt Con) this is a blend of her Solarian and Dominion heritage.
-
*a reminder that in the Alt Con Witch and Fairy are defined as those with Thematic magic Sources, and are divided by whether or not they manifest wings during transformations, while wizards are magicals who possess non-Thematic Magic.
(Sorry if you all remembered that, but it is a question I’ve been asked (and answered) a couple of times.)

Fire Agate Reunion
Theoretical Future Scene - Winx Alt Con
Season 06 - Post 606 Vortex of Flame... kind of.
(Source of Plot Convenience Fire which recharges Bloom’s powers is on Pyros in the Alt Con, also other changes and stuff is going but doesn’t really affect the snip below. (which might still be scrapped or altered, idk yet.))
Spoilers for some of Diaspro’s Alt Con Story Arc.
-
Outside of the walls of Alfea, in one of the many gazebos that littered the school's forested grounds, Bloom sat letting her magic flow through her, re-familiarising herself with it's power. Or perhaps just familiarising herself with the new power in her body.
Bloom looked up from her meditation at the sound of a knock on the gazebo frame.
“Diaspro!” At the sight of the blonde Bloom rocketed to her feet, her newly recharged powers wreathing her in an almost visible aura. “Back for a second try? You know, I almost believed Brandon when he claimed you had to have been brainwashed. But I guess you were just never as smart as we thought; trying to fry a fire fairy? Really?”
Diaspro scoffed and stepped into the gazebo, “you're welcome for that by the way, but if that's how you show gratitude, next time I'll just let the Elemental Deprivation kill you.”
Bloom flinched slightly, and waited. Even now, even after Diaspro had proven to be a dangerous enemy, Bloom didn't want to attack her. They'd almost kind of been friends once.
Diaspro sighed.
“I suppose I should clear a few things up, first of all, I'm not sticking around for long. Second of all... when it comes to whether or not I was under Valtor's power... Do you know a Nemesis is?”
Bloom shook her head, relaxing, but not letting down her guard.
“They're... our darkest self reflection. When someone is born they generate a Dream Seed, and a Nightmare Seed. These grow with each person, fed by their passions and hopes, their kindness... or their darker thoughts and impulses. Dream seeds can become an amazing power to help spread compassion and hope.”
“And Nightmare Seeds?” Bloom asked, though she was forming an idea.
“Become Nemesis,” Diaspro nodded as she confirmed Bloom's suspicion. “I got the unfortunate chance to meet mine recently. They really are the parts of ourselves that we hate the most.”
Disapro sat down on one of the lengths of bench that ran around the gazebo's internal perimeter, letting herself lean against the short fence that acted as a backrest.
“I was three when Sky and I were engaged, did you know that?” Diaspro waited until Bloom shook her head before continuing, “I started training the next day. Every day from then on was spent learning to be his perfect queen. But no amount of training could do that, because I'm not you, and you're the one he wants to be with.”
Diaspro sighed, dropping her head back onto the fence's top rail behind her. Bloom frowned and shifted her weight, she felt lost again, confused by Diaspro's meandering explanation. If it could even be called that.
“I spent effectively my whole life being trained to do one thing, I didn't get to have hobbies, I barely had friends who were some kind of political alliance, everything I was, was that. And then it was gone. I hated you so much for that.” Diaspro straightened, “I still hate you so much for that. My duty is something I hold above all other things, because that is how I was raised, to serve the role of queen. When that was taken away from me I didn't know who I was anymore, and I kept thinking: if I get rid of Bloom, Sky has no reason not to accept the marriage again, I get my life back.”
Bloom pulled her magic forward, half forming it, waiting, now certain Diaspro would attack. But Diaspro kept talking.
“I shoved it down, a thousand times I shoved it down until it was almost silent, because no matter how dark my thoughts became, I still had my duty, no number of dark thoughts could define me unless I acted on them. I thought I could accept it, and for a while it was working, I started compiling a guide for you, to help you catch up on what you'd need to know to be queen one day. I figured, it was my duty to ensure the best queen ascended the throne at his side, and if it wasn't me, I had to make you the best. And then Valtor came, and he offered me a way to get my life back.”
“And you took it.”
“And I took it, even though I always thought I would be better than that, when he offered, suddenly the idea didn't seem so entirely horrible anymore. It didn't matter that I did actually like you a little bit in spite of myself. Nothing mattered but what I wanted, it was like the self restraint holding back my darker impulses vanished. I don't actually know, how much was down to his influence, because the weakness he exploited in me, was already there. There was already darkness in my heart. The only command I know for sure that he imprinted in me was to bring you to him.”
Diaspro’s fingers were laced, Bloom noticed the slight discolouration as Diaspro gripped her hands so tightly together her own blood flow was affected.
“What I did, it's something I will never forgive myself for, and I don't expect forgiveness from any of you, but I've faced that darkness now, in it's most manifest form. I know that of my own volition, I would rather die than give into it again. I want to move forward with my life, and right now, for me that means leaving, figuring out who Diaspro is when she's not the million and three things she's expected and told to be. I just wanted to check in on everyone and tell you I was sorry.”
Diaspro watched Bloom, and Bloom watched her back. Slowly, Bloom let her defensive power fade back into herself, and reached out instead with her heart. She could feel Diaspro's sincerity.
“You've grown a lot while you were away,” Bloom said as she felt the new depths of power beneath Diaspro's skin.
Diaspro smiled and ducked her head shyly, a new trait for her. “You've grown quite a bit yourself,” she replied.
Bloom stepped back a few paces to sit on the bench directly across from Diaspro.
“So,” Bloom began, “walk me through this 'throwing me in a volcano' thing, I seem to remember you saying things while you kidnapped me, but I was really out of it.”
“Oh, I noticed. And I was rescuing you, obviously. Seriously, how did your Elemental Deprivation get that bad? Were you trying to die?”
“Did you actually just come back here to insult me?”
“If you're insulted by the truth, Bloom, then maybe you should rethink your stance on a few things, starting with how good you clearly aren't.”
“Hey!”
-
(For those confused why Brandon would be the one with the argument: in the Alt Con he was with Diaspro when she earned her Charmix during which time she acknowledged that Sky would never love her and they’d never be together. Which didn’t stop the dark thoughts, Intrusive Thoughts care not for logic or personal growth.)

What percentage of each sex would you say each magical being is (Ie, Wizards are 60% male/40% female, Witches are 88% female/12% males, Heroes are 90% male/10% female, etc)?
No.
I've answered an ask like this before, and I will repeat myself I hope for the last time:
I Do Not feel comfortable assigning a hard statistic number to gender divisions, especially given there will be worlds that do not recognize the male | female gender binary. (and since I've tried to at least imply in the past trans and nb magicals.)
You want a number for your own rewrite, fic or fan project?
Make one up yourself.
Please don't ask me this shit again. I am not in the mood.
I am this close to turning off anon.
Is it because I should have been asleep several hours ago and am currently saying things I'll feel bad about in the morning? Maybe. But don't wait a few months to re-ask a question I've already said I don't want to answer.

Are you responding to asks again?
I mean it depends very much on the question. If this is about panties, then no, never.
-
If it's about the Wizard Culture Question: holy gosh wow I am so sorry about that one.
It has been sitting in my ask box for ... years? now and it has been looking at me with the metaphorical eyes of a very sad and abandoned kitten.
The problem I'm having with trying to answer that one is that it feels like there's not a lot to go off of in the canon. Or at least not in the cartoon which I'm more familiar with rather than the comic, which might have more. idk, I haven't read very much of it.
In the cartoon we really only spend a small amount of time with wizards, Nabu and Palladium* getting (I feel) the most screen time followed up by Wizgiz* and Saladin. Apart from those four, and the very background Real!Avalon, half of the wizards we as viewers spend any significant time with, are bad guys. (The Black Circle, Fake!Avalon (not even a real wizard), Valtor, Darkar... Brafilius😑)
(*they are listed as 'elf' and 'leprechaun' so may not count but I feel like they do.)
What we do get to see is that the wizards of the Black Circle have their own magical specialty, Palladium and Wizgiz are teachers who specialize in a specific field or branch of general magical arts (the kind anyone with enough magic can use).
Saladin and Nabu both use staffs, but that could be an indicator of Combat Magic specialization.
The point is, I don't feel that I've spent enough time with enough wizards to get an idea of what kind of culture they'd form.
The best I can figure though, is that wizards are likely to be the ones who study Cultural Magic.
If you remember there was an episode in season... 2? where they were studying the Rain Dance, Musa performed an anti-rain dance to fight Stormy. During that episode it was said that each planet had their own form of rain summoning magic.
From that we can extrapolate that there are some spells that are ritualized, which use specific steps in specific orders that are unique to each planet.
It would make sense that these spells would be held by wizards who can use either 'light' magic or 'dark' magics, unlike fairies and witches who tend to keep to one side in channeling their powers.
Each planet would probably have a 'small' circle of wizards who learn this Cultural Magics, whose primary focus is the keeping and teaching of these magics to the next generations to ensure that their planet's magical heritage isn't lost.
Other wizards probably focus on a branch of magic like combat or runes or transformation, some possibly even studying on multiple planets to gain a broader understanding of the subject.
Honestly it wasn't something I'd thought a lot about because it wasn't where the focus of the Alt Con was, but when I got the ask I realized just how much I hadn't thought about it, so I started thinking about it but, as much as I want to answer that ask I feel like I don't have an answer to give.
-
While I was thinking about it though, my brain did decide there was a group who identify as wizards even though they may or may not be made up of wizards, fairies and witches, and who've figured out a way to manifest magic externally in a measurement of power. The group was inspired by the nine-tailed foxes and fox spirits of several Asian countries, and the idea of a secretive group who crop up every now and then and adopt stray magic users and have no *known* home world.
It was actually half provoked by a crossover idea I was having with Bloom finding out one of her ancestors from Domino was part of the group and had been on Earth and Bloom trying to track down the traces of her because she's trying to piece together her heritage and ties to her ancestors in the wake of being the last of her bloodline revelations.
-
If the question is basically anything else... uh, maybe? I'm doing (trying to do) a couple of projects this month in another fandom, so we'll see?

Hi I recently found your blog and I really like your headcanons, amd I wanted to ask you something: how well do you think the Winx do in hand to hand combat? Does magic have to do something with that increase?
Hi I wanted to ask about Winx, I read about your "Physical fitness". Do the Winx gain enhanced athletism when they are transformed? What about hand to hand combat?
Magic can increase a body's abilities to a certain extent, can help someone go harder for longer, move a little faster and lift a little extra, but that depends generally on their baseline physical abilities. Using magic to push past existing limits can tear muscles if used too much and not properly compensated for.
While transformed Fairies (and Witches) gain a small but noticeable boost to their overall physical capabilities, however in terms of hand-to-hand combat, intentional magical boosts are a mixed bag.
While it can allow you to hit harder and dodge faster, it doesn't account for skill and training.
The Winx are not specifically trained in hand to hand combat (certainly not in canon) though they are (in the Alt Con) familiar with basic self-defence in case of emergency.
If the Winx were to fight the Specialists in hand-to-hand, they (the Winx) would lose.
While their physical capabilities might be good, the Specialists actually know how to fight, they've spent years training and honing their skills in the arts of combat.
The Winx are more focused on Disengagement and Distancing. How do they get an attacker out of their personal space and give themselves enough room to either run, or use magically ranged combat, or a way to use their environment to their advantage.
I would think that the Winx (and other Alfea/Cloud Tower students who have partners and close friends at Red Fountain) would likely have a higher skill level compared to their year-mates because they have the Specialists for boyfriends who they could practice with.
-
Canonically we see the students of Alfea practice melee combat maybe once (Bloom fought with a sword against another student in... season 2 I believe? (season 2, ep9)), so they either have a basic combat elective we've never seen or Bloom and the other student already somewhat knew how to sword fight even though it never comes up again after this.
In terms of Transferable skills, the Winx do have amazing athletic capabilities at baseline, but just being fit doesn't mean you're automatically good at fighting. There are a lot of ways to throw a punch or launch a kick that will get you hurt more than you hurt your opponent.
So TLDR: while the Winx can compensate their athletic abilities a little bit with magic, they do not have the combat training to make use of those abilities, outside of basic self-defence.

Charmix Subtype Brooches based off the Lovix snowflake for each of the Winx.
-
I was thinking the other day, how I’ve assigned inherent abilities to each form, and how the Fairies might use those abilities even without transforming if, for any reason, they didn’t want to transform and remain inconspicuous.
Then I remembered: I’ve assigned the Charmix the role of power recall. (Sort of)
BUT: if say, a fairy wanted to go out in the cold without transforming, maybe they could use the Charmix to apply the ‘cold resistance’ aspect of Lovix, and the power’s manifestation is simply the Charmix Brooch but in the Snowflake Form?

So how is Daphne a Nymph when she’s also the Vessel?
Are Nymphs the vessels of primordial magic
Also what happens to the Great Dragon
Within the Alt Con 'The Nymphs of Magix' is just the name of Daphne's circle, like how Bloom and her friends are the 'Winx.'
Nymph isn't really a type or stage of Fairy, but even if it was, being a Vessel is something that happens alongside, if not independently of being a Fairy, and is only really a thing for the Dragon Fire.
Other people might act as vessels or conduits for certain magics, but it's a different level to the Vessels of the Dragon Fire.
The Great Dragon is taking a nap in a slightly different Dimension just off of Domino, it's not really affected by the Planet being encased in ice.

Subject Spotlight: Medical Magic and Healing
Medical Magic
Bodies, typically speaking, don't want to be in distress. The most basic healing magic* is simply providing enough energy for a damaged body to recover itself at normally impossible speeds, returning a body to the way it 'should be'. (ie. Not bleeding from the arm etc.)
This form of healing is a basic 'shove as much magic at the problem as you can' solution, and has some draw backs: Energy requirements The injured body needs stored resources to use in the repairs The body needs to know what its version of healthy is**
In a pinch this type of magic can save a life, but training is always better.
-
Training in Medical Magic means learning a lot of variant biology, learning how to use magic to get the (patient's) body to tell you what is wrong and what should be going on, and most importantly, how to direct the magic to the places it's needed, making the energy use far more efficient.
It also means magicals can intentionally heal themselves more effectively as well.
In some cases, when the body simply doesn't have the resources to use at the time of healing, trained Medical personnel can use their magic to temporarily replace the physical matter, to stand in for the repairs and scar tissue until the body does have the resources.
The down side of this type of healing is that if the energy is interrupted, either by a new spell, a null-magic area, or it simply didn't have enough time to work, the wounds do reopen.
-
Poisons are also studied along side medicines, in order to learn how to identify them, purge them, draw them out, break them down into harmless components (if they can be), or to help the body fight the effects.
Likewise, more advanced students study illness and infection because sometimes the bodies they're trying to patch back up don't know how to fight off the illness or infection they're afflicted with, and if the Medical Magic can't help the body learn how, then the Medical personnel are just wasting energy or they're forced to let the body learn on it's own time, which isn't always time they have.
In emergency field cases where a body has an injury, but not enough natural/stored/remaining resources, and the assisting magical is low on energy, trained medical personnel can put a body into an almost stasis like sleep, which physically slows all of the body's functions and had been liked to pausing the body's state until better care can be given.
-
Field versus Office:
Some trained magicals work in proper hospitals, going on to take jobs that look like a magical version or what Earthlings would consider normal medical professions.
Some will go 'into the field', either as a member of a Circle, or as a professional attachment to a Diplomatic party, or one of many other kinds of teams who travel the Magical Dimension. These magicals are the equivalent of field medics or EMTs. (Emergency Medical Technicians.)
Depending on the type of party, they might be acting as a personal doctor, or they might just be there to make sure their team gets back as alive as possible. Those who go into more dangerous situations (on purpose) tend to have higher combat skills than those who don't.
(They're also required by the Magical Dimension' Inter Realm Medical Board to see a therapist on the regular. This is a blanket Law for all Field Medics after one Medic was so traumatised by the work and left unaided, that they suffered a breakdown that turned their healing abilities inside-out and caused their magic backlash to inflict every injury they'd ever healed onto whomever was nearby.)
-
*Some magicals have a slightly different aspect of magic which means wounds don't heal so much as they are 'unmade', these types of magicals have an easier time of extracting poison or 'shrapnel' with the 'throw energy at it til it works' technique, because it is effectively reversing the damage and what caused it.
**Some people perform variations of body modification which can be affected by healing magics if the healing magic is basically set to “reset to factory settings”. This can be avoided if the healer is trained enough to recognise and differentiate an intentional change versus an unintentional change (aka, an injury), or if the changes have overwritten the “factory settings” for the body and the body recognises the changes as “the new situation normal”.
-
TLDR: magicals can instinctively throw energy at a wound until it heals itself, but trained magicals can do it better and with less risk on both sides.

Wrote 179 new words of season 3 chapter 3 (week 22) and finally got Varanda on screen!
Then was promptly distracted by an idea to integrate Sapphire into the WAC, so have some concept art, not sure if I want her to be a fairy (Roxy’s roommate) or a witch (lore makes more sense).
Tried to give her a bit of a snowflake fractal theme coupled with various ice blues and ombré.
First Instinct was to cover up her arms, but Icy has bare shoulders, and I wanted to take a little from her design for this one.

Planetary Spotlight: Callisto
Callisto [Cal-ih-stow] Callisto The Hunter's World. Callisto The Wild Lands.
-
The Planet of Callisto is something of an anomaly in the Magical Dimension, since it is unclear to outsiders exactly which Thematic Domain the world truly belongs to.
A world of forests and plains, mountains and valleys and oceans, the planet has vast expanses of wilderness and one of the smallest populations of any of the Keystone Worlds*.
The Thematic magics which appear on Callisto tend towards plant or stone aspects of nature, animal talents - whether specific or general - and some... slightly more unusual types which suggest Callisto either has no true Thematic Domain, or a history of immigration.
-
Cultural Overview:
The Callistei [Cal-ih-sty] have a long history as hunter-gatherers, despite their level of technological advancement. They prefer to keep their technology compartmentalized from the majority of their lifestyle, except in cases where it truly is a lifesaver, such as certain facets of medical technology or water purification.
(This gives them the appearance of being less technologically advanced than they actually are at first glance.)
Callisto has one of the highest concentrations of Wild Magic found anywhere in the Magical Dimension, and is thought to be the rightful 'Homeworld' of the chaotic force.
The ability of the trained Callistei hunters to track their prey across galaxies has gained the people of Callisto a fierce reputation as a warrior race**, though they themselves laugh at the notion. While their culture does contain many of the markers of a warrior race, the concept of what a warrior race is and what it is believed to be are so different that they simply do not care for the term.
Personal and societal honour and responsibility are important facets of the Callistei culture, if one of their people goes 'bad', they will take whatever measures are deem necessary to take care of the problem rather than leaving it to others, even if the problem occurs on another world.
While Callisto does prefer rehabilitation as a first resort, it is one of the few worlds which have an outright death sentence, though this is considered to be a last resort, and many forms of truth and forensic magics will be used to determine a perpetrator's guilt before such measures are reached.
-
Butterflies and Boon:
Because Wild Magic is so prevalent on Callisto, it is not uncommon for Magicals to undertake the challenge of Nature's Boon, travelling to Graynor to train under the Ancestral Spirit of Nature in order to learn to work with Wild Magic and not suffer the normal, and oft unpleasant consequences.
-
Care of the Crown:
The governance of Callisto is considered to be one of the oddest of the Magical Dimension. The ruler is granted the title of Emperor or Empress (->Their Imperial Majesty), and since the title is not passed through bloodlines or marriage, the spouse or children of the ruler are granted no special titles.
The title is passed after an event called The Corona, a 'ceremony' which can last for a decade. (The longest Corona being 11 ½ years.)
The Corona is begun when the reigning Emperor/Empress feels that they are close to the end of their reign. They select several candidates from the fairies, wizards and witches of Callisto who are in, or are working towards, positions in the Callistei government.
These candidates are granted the title of prince of princess for the duration of the Corona, and are often sent to act as representatives of Their Imperial Majesty in instances of interplanetary meetings of royals.
The rules of the Corona state that there must not be less than three candidates, though no maximum has been specified, and the largest group of candidates recorded was twelve. Candidates may 'abdicate' during the Corona, dropping themselves from the running, but in any instance where all but one candidate 'abdicate' an official inquiry must be held to ensure no foul play has taken place.
A candidates inability to Bond with an Astri Ursin does not insure their failure to ascend to the ruling title, but it is very rare for a candidate without such a bond to become ruler, having happened only three times in the recorded history of Callisto.
-
Despite – or perhaps because – of the reputation of Callisto, it has good relations to almost every world, though it shares especially good relations with Solaria, which is their closest, inhabited planetary neighbour.
(This is especially fruitful for Callisto, as Solaria lies directly in the travel path from Callisto to Magix, one of the Magical Dimension's 'hub' Worlds which are considered to be 'neutral' in the Magical Dimension's politics as they are often Colony Worlds, built by many cultures coming together to create a shared space.)
-
Varanda of Callisto – Fairy of Protection
A Corona candidate at the time of Winx Club Season 1, Varanda became friends with Princess Stella of Solaria during a political conference before Stella's first year at Alfea. Despite her candidacy Varanda was slated to attend Alfea on Magix, but decided to remain on Callisto after a 'small' series of attacks on her home world changed her mind, she felt that she would be able to do more good on Callisto than at Alfea. (She was correct, and earned her Enchantix on Callisto shortly before the siege of Magix several weeks later.)
Varanda's magical abilities lie with protection and defence, and she is one of the few magicals alive capable of constructing a Devouring Shield, a magical shield which eats the magical energy of any attack that strikes it, converting the attacking energy into extra shield power.
Though her hair is darker and her eyes greener, Varanda bears a striking similarity to Bloom of Domino. This is an ethnic similarity made more apparent by the rarity of the people of Domino. Varanda's grandmother was a refuge from Domino. (If stories are to be believed, Varanda's Grandmother was a member the Dragon's Teeth warriors of Domino when the first siege happened, and was off-World – escorting wounded to a nearby planet for medical treatment due to the loss of medical facilities on Domino – when the second siege happened.***)
-
Notable Fauna:
Callisto is home to the Astri Ursin, or Celestial Bears. One of the few creatures that can interact with Wild Magic without ill effects, it is often sought after by magic practitioners crazy enough to pursue the 'mastery' of Wild Magic.
The Astri Ursin are often the Bonded animal companions of the rulers of Callisto, and so have a sacred place in the culture of the World.
On a smaller scale, Callisto is also home to the Bardic Glider, a small creature similar to Earth's sugar gliders which live in colonies and possess a group memory they can share with other creatures they trust. Bardic Gliders are very small, the largest of the species requires one and half (average adult) hands to hold securely, while most only require one.
-
*Keystone Worlds:
Like Solaria is the planet of the Sun, Ruler of the Worlds of Celestial Bodies and Primary House of Light, as Zenith is the World of Technology, Keystone worlds have existed since almost the beginning, and represent Aspects of Reality and the Nature of the Universe. Keystone Worlds were created by the Great Dragon to bring Order to the Universe, like Fairies and Witches had a Thematic Power source, Keystone Worlds also belong to a Thematic Domain. Thematic Domains can be anything from Nature to the Aspect-of-Nature-which-is-Plants, to Technology, to a specific celestial body, to all celestial bodies, to a terrain like the sandy deserts, to an aspect such as death itself.
One of the few Aspects that is not truly represented is War, though several 'Warrior races' exist, and there are Worlds with 'proving grounds' for young warriors to test themselves, no Planet or World is Thematically Dedicated war. It was thought that War was not considered to be a natural Aspect of Reality, but debates rage on, because the existence of Zenith proves that even things which are created by beings lesser than the Great Dragon are considered to be 'natural Aspects', War should therefore be considered a 'natural Aspect'.
Magical Historians and Religious researchers also agree that one of the natural states of the universe at the time of creation is in fact Conflict, which is to say, 'War'.
Some philosophers posit that a World under the Thematical Dominion of War would not last long and would quickly self destruct, and given the history of wars through out the Magical Dimension, it is possible that to avoid such a fate, the Dominion is shared by all Worlds, just as they all share the Thematic Dominion of Order by the sheer virtue of their purpose in the Magical Dimension.
These philosophers are not well loved and are often considered mad or insane.

4th Wall Break:
**I honestly picture the Callistei a mix of the Xena/Hercules Amazons, and the Star Wars Mandalorian race.
***Varanda’s grandmother’s name is Europa. Yes, that Europa (I think I’m so smart😉)
