In the shadowy outskirts of Nocturna City, Vega Esperon earns his living by sentencing people to an early grave. His latest assignment from the syndicate narrows a target over the head of Prism Nightingale, the owner of Club Bloodlust and leader of the vampire coven nesting within its walls.

Vega is quick to discover that he is not alone in his pursuit of Prism: 86, a rival hitman with a cybernetic arm and fragmented memories, is always one step ahead, complicating Vega’s mission and temporarily redirecting his mark to 86.

Whatever it takes to keep Prism his.

Their rivalry takes an unexpected turn when they learn Prism is seeking the location of a technological artifact known only as The Ruby, an item said to contain the power to amplify Prism’s hypnotic abilities and potential to enslave both vampires and humans.

Faced with a common enemy and the looming threat of The Ruby falling into the wrong—or any—hands, Vega and 86 form a reluctant alliance. Together, they embark on a perilous espionage to infiltrate Club Bloodlust, navigate its bloodthirsty thralls, and uncover the truth behind The Ruby’s location.

As they navigate the perilous world of vampires and technology, Vega and 86 find themselves drawn to each other in unexpected ways, but will it withstand the challenges ahead once The Ruby is secured and their focus returns to eliminating Prism?

Long before she was bothering Lucanis, Selora was bothering Viago (something something the important context is she’s 9 and Vi’s 19.)

He sat back in his chair as soon as she said the Talon’s name, stroking the patchy stubble on his spotted chin. “Why is she visiting a brothel?”

She could tell by his tone that the question wasn’t really directed at her, which was quite silly when she obviously knew the answer. Tilting her head, she did her best approximation of the stance she’d seen the most successful hagglers take in the market.

“How much is it worth to you?”

His eyes narrowed to slits until she could barely see the blue of them. After a beat, he dug into his pocket, pulling out a coin he held out to her between gloved fingers, the light glinting off the shiny copper.

Mouth twisting, she mirrored his expression before holding her hand out. There was a long pause and, for a moment, Selora worried he might take it back as she held his glare. The metal barely hit her palm before she squirreled it away.

“She plays cards every week in the back room,” Selora informed him, tipping up her chin proudly. “Sometimes I watch if Giovanna is busy. Did you know they have holes in their walls? At the Duchessa, I mean. Giovanna says they put them there on purpose but—”

“Who is Giovanna?”

“The maidservant,” she cried plaintively, planting her hands on her hips. “Andraste’s cock, do you never talk to anyone ever?”

“I have never been to the Duchessa,” he said through gritted teeth. “Not that it’s any of your business. And stop blaspheming if you’re going to do it so poorly, per favore.” At the snap of his fingers, she straightened her spine, dropping her hands back to her sides. “Who does Ursina play cards with?”

She held out her hand again. Viago rolled his eyes but another copper piece graced her palm.

“Different people,” she told him this time. “Mostly rich nobs, I think. Their clothes are very fine. The lady this week had rubies dripping from her ears, so red it almost looked like she was bleeding. Giovanna said she thought they were real, too.”

“It is surprising you hear anything with the number of words that pour out of your mouth at the first opportunity,” he grumbled but had another coin at the ready for his next question. “What do they play? Do you know?”

Selora scowled at him as she took the coin and secured it with the others. “Vendetta, mostly, but the signora favors Wicked Grace.”

She bit down on the inside of her cheek to keep from telling him about the trick the Talon had for winning, having only just figured it out after watching the woman do it for weeks and weeks at her card games. Viago didn’t deserve to know it, she decided. He was rubbing his chin again and Selora hoped the red spot there grew into the biggest, most disgusting pustule that no one he did try to talk to would look at him without wanting to be sick.

can you tell me about the main conflicts in your desperato series??

Nicky v.s. The Police.Nicky v.s. Trisitan Cooper.Emmy v.s. Smithy. Emmy v.s. the expectations that are connected to the Donovan name

Well Nic against the police is a self explanatory one, I’d say. But It’s been something that’s been there since she was a child. It’s not just as straight forwards as Nicky is a criminal and they’re the law. Like Diana Fowler, the main cop in the series, has a personal vendetta against Nicky because of Jacob. Like Nic knows something about Diana’s husband and that’s fun. Nicky against Trisitan is self explanatory again, since he made her life a living hell and got her addicted to drugs and all. So when he gets out of prison, that’s a fun time. 

Emmy’s conflict with Peter Smith aka Smithy, stems down to the fact that everyone gets those bad vibes from him and she’s right to listen to them. The conflict gets deeper after Ruby’s disappearance, one of Emmy’s sort of friends. Like Ruby is that friend, like is a friend of a friend and hang out as a group. Emmy knowing the criminal circumstances of the city, knows there’s something more to it. When Emmy became a Donovan, there’s this “Oh she’s of that family” so people expect her to be a criminal and do criminal stuff. So it’s a thing of if someone is treated as if they’re a criminal they’ll act like one. 

And then there’s the conflicts of the both of the Sisters with their mothers. And the problems that Nate faces while trying to adopt a baby when he has a business partner and best friend of who is Nicky, with a long suspected criminal history. Sofia and Holly who are trying to get married while dealing with Amber who is an angry criminal teenager who didn’t cope with the lose of her parents right. Scott and being a part of the “hidden homeless”. Ryan and borderline alcoholism and how that impacts on his relationship with James, his son. Olivia and personal conflicts about should she lie to protect her friends when she’s been raised on a very strict moral code and has been warned  about  interacting with the Donovans.

Trying to decide if I want to establish an actual name for 86, that he likely will never learn and therefore would be effectively useless for me to know, or if I want it to be an endless mystery for everyone, myself included …
