Before he gets to the questions there is somebody celebrating their birthday so he gets the crowd to sing them happy birthday.

And he shares that he hadn't been able to sleep on the flight on the way to the con because during the flight when everybody was supposed to be sleeping there was one person awake, with the light on and hitting a prayer bowl. So, he only got to sleep for an hour or two before being woken up by the sound of the prayer bowl and he saw the flight attendant go over to the young lady to ask her to stop, and she stopped but then got up and flew running down the aisle, arms up in the air and he doesn't know if that was some sort of physical smudging, but he was so confused. He goes to the bathroom and when he's going back to his seat, he passes past her seat and sure enough there's the prayer bowl and the little mallet, and a notepad that had written in crazy scratch 'don't hurt me' with hurt circled and 'I am woman, I am god, god is woman woman woman woman woman'. He didn't go back to sleep after that worried he'd wake up to her hovering above him like in the House on Haunted Hill, that was in his head the rest of the night.

What new countries would he like to visist, and why?

He mentions Iceland, says he's always wanted to go there and has a friend who lives there who keeps telling him to visit. Also, New Zealand, same thing he hears it's amazing, he's never been there and has friends who live there like Karl Urban tell him to visit. When he mentions Karl the crowd reacts and says they're mad at him for cancelling his appearance and Jensen tells them he's fishing, to leave him alone 😆

But there's a lot of places, he loves to travel, and this world has a lot to offer. The fan is from Russia, and he says he'd love to go see Russia he's heard very good things from M. x

Would he ever consider doing audiobooks?

Yeah, he would definitely consider that; he does enjoy doing the voice over stuff it's probably something he got from his father who does a lot of voice work and has been for many years. He takes the opportunity to wish a happy Father's day, and says they were having a little toast in the green room; he does like the voice over stuff and yeah he'd be interested in audio books he thinks it'd be fun. x

Did he see that Anne Twist, Harry Style's mom, shared the clip where he talks about seeing Harry in concert?

He says, really? hey, Harry Styles mom can I get some tickets? hey Harry Styles mom, gorgeous thing you, how about some tickets to see your son? 😂

Somebody, years ago, gave him Harry's first solo album and they told him he'd like it and he didn't believe them then he listened to it and he secretly liked it for years but he didn't tell anybody, and now he doesn't care he thinks Harry's a talented dude who's got incredible showmanship, and he was not expecting to be as entertained as he was when he went to that concert. Which he'll be honest, it was his daughter and her friends who really wanted to see him but because he takes his kids to school everyday, in the car JJ likes to dj, so he has to listen to a lot of Harry, and Taylor, and knows more of those songs that he ever thought he would, and he doesn't hate them. He briefly tells the story about how Phil Collins In the Air Tonight came on and JJ wanted it to change it but he said no to wait for the drum solo and he ended up hurting his neck jamming along. x

On Friday during Drake Rodger's panel he shared the story of his chemistry read and said one time he was caught on camera drinking beer and he asked the fan to ask Jensen what his impression was of that moment

Jensen says that what happened was they were on Zoom, and he, D, Thompson, and the other producers turned their cameras off but Drake's was still on and he's still sitting there while they're on the phone having a discussion, and sure enough he drinks a beer and Jensen noticed and pointed it out and Thompson didn't think so but D also thought he was drinking, and Jensen said "he's hired, that's it he's my guy", that's how he remembers that moment. They all laughed, and then they got back on and he asked Drake if he was drinking and Drake denied it and held up his water bottle saying it's just water and Jensen was like 'yeah, and what about that bottle of Medalla you got right off screen?' and he got all nervous. That's how he remebers that moment and he never lets him forget it either.

He will say Drake picked up the baton very quickly in the messing with any and everyone, including him which he always thinks it's funny when Drake tries to prank him or mess with him. x

How does he feel during certain emotional moments in SPN like when Sam told Dean they were no longer brothers and wouldn't try to save him?

There's very little about the story of SPN that he ever disagreed with most of, he believes, what they did, what they experienced and what the characters said to each other were all part of a bigger story and so he never really got overly hung up on stuff like Sam saying that particular thing because he knew it would come back around in some way, shape, or form to be a positive. He tells- he calls it a fable but it's actually a parable that goes: a man and his son are working the land and the son breaks his leg, and all of the villagers come over and say 'oh im so sorry that your son broke his leg that must be awful' and the man replies 'might be awful, might be good, we'll see' that week the military comes by to recruit all the able bodied young men but his son had a broken leg so he couldn't go and now the villagers are saying 'oh my god it's so great that they didn't take your son' and the man once again says 'maybe, maybe not', and it keeps going and the point is you never know what might be good or what might be bad in any given situation. He just always had faith that it was going to be positive down the road, and he guesses you could be the person that always feels like it's going to be negative down the road but that's no fun so don't be that person. x

He reccomends looking up the parable, for anyone interested in doing so you can look up the parable of the Chinese farmer.

Has he heard Dean's French dubbing, and if not would he like to one day?

He has not heard the French dubbing of Dean but it would be interesting. He has heard a couple of different dubbings but he doesn't think he's heard the French one, he'll look it up. x

The fan shares the fun fact that the actor who dubs him as Dean also dubs him as Soldier Boy but the fan doesn't like him as Soldier Boy because they don't have a deep voice, and I guess it's too happy. Watch the clip it's so funny and Jensen also does Soldier Boy in a Mario voice 😂

He's a little charmer in French 💕

If he had the opportunity of directing a movie, what kind of movie would he direct?

Probably an action-adventure type of movie. Those are the kind of things that he likes doing in general as far as like an actor goes; he likes fast-paced upbeat adventurous type of stuff so something like that. x

On Point With: Laé D. Boi

A face of the new era of Brooklyn nightlife, this socially conscious fashionista has carved out a niche all her own in just about a year’s time. Spearheading events and shows with purposes ranging from celebrating the city’s POC queens to geeked-out Pokemon tournaments, she has certainly gotten her lay of the land... it’s Laé D. Boi!

Thotyssey: Hey Laé D., thanks for talking to us! So Pride is nearly upon us... are you excited, or are you dreading it at all?

Laé D. Boi: Thanks Jim! The pleasure is all mine. Really excited, because it’s my first working Pride as a drag queen. So it sorta, like, feels like my first Pride altogether.

This is only your first drag year? You’ve come so far!

Thank you! I like to think so! I’ve been “dragging it up” for a year and a half now. But I have major imposter syndrome, so I always feel like I’m playing catch-up to my peers.

That's, like, an epidemic for performers.

It truly is! I feel like that would be my “inner saboteur.” But in all honesty, it has been my main motivation to grow--mainly because this community is such a “pressure cooker.” But I grew up in similar scenes in Los Angeles, so you think i’d be used to it!

Speaking of inner saboteurs, you were with Crystal Hart for her Drag Race viewing party at The Bedford last night. So for the second season in a row, the Top Four will all move on to the finale as a Top Four. Um, are we surprised?

We aren’t surprised in the least bit. It’s on mainstream TV now, so they are gonna milk the seasons dry.

Who is standing out for you as the winner?

My Top 2 out of the 4 are Asia and Aquaria. They are both fierce competitors, but also amazing performers. I’m a visual person, and the looks they turned out were out of this world. I mean, Asia’s “Hats Incredible” and Aquaria’s saboteur looks were right up my alley.

Then right after the episode, you went and hosted the Wallbreaker benefit show at Macri Park. Yes, and It was so surreal. I am always humbled when performers lend their time and talent for a great cause. We raised $635. Major shout out to Anna-Lisa for being a great producer.

So, growing up in LA, were you very connected to showbiz people?

Not so much showbiz, but fashion. I worked as a stylist in LA, which is what brought me to NYC. Super-competitive, but I learned a lot! I kinda fell into drag / showbiz, funny enough.

What drew you to drag in the beginning?

Heartbreak, haha! 2016 was a rough year for me. I had a falling out from my childhood best friend who moved out here with me, the guy I was dating at the time and I had a traumatic breakup, and then Donald Trump became president. I was feeling a lot all at once, so I wrote about it as a poem, added music to it, then premiered it at a birthday performance at [The Deep End party] Otter Box. I kept going out in face until I got my first booked gig.

Is there a story about how your drag name came to you?

I love puns and dad jokes. My off-duty name is Ololade (o-la-luh-day). One of my cousins growing up would always call me Laday, and I love androgyny, so I thought lady boy. Originally it was Lae DuBoi (lay-du-boy), but people would always mess it up, so I shortened it to Laé D. Boi.

I remember seeing your name that other way! 

How did you fall into the Brooklyn scene in particular?

I only knew of Otter Box at the time because i was friends with [The Deep End’s co-owner] JEM, and followed them to The Deep End. There I met Thee Suburbia while she was working the door one day, and she gave me the lay of the land, so to speak. Still one of my best judys.

Do you sew or design for other queens?

I WISH... I can’t even sew for myself! However, I just got my first hot glue gun about a month ago, and it has been life-changing! I’ve been making all sorts of new props. Though I’ve always believed, it’s not what you wear, but how you wear it that counts.

Absolutely! So, how would you describe your performing style to the uninitiated?

Live and in color. I predominately do raps and live numbers, though when I do lip syncs, I’m a total prop princess. I live for the drama.

Props to props! And you did this past MR(S) BK pageant, right? Yes!! It was such a fun experience! I consider it to be like a drag cotillion--a fun way to “introduce” yourself into to the scene.

One great thing about the Brooklyn scene today is that there is such a diversity of performers, as far as race, ethnicity, gender, aesthetic, etc. There are more young BK queens of color turning it than ever before. But the BK audiences are still made up mostly of cis white guys. Is this a weird dynamic?

It’s so funny that you say that. This was the inspiration behind my bi-monthly party REPARATIONS at the Deep End. My co-producer Maé B. Dolores and I discussed how queer spaces that draw predominantly cis white males often use our culture, language, and music. But we would often not feel welcome in those spaces, so we decided to create our own. We feature all black performers, and have raised over $1,000 to different POC organizations like The Audre Lorde Project and Black Lives Matter.

The next REPARATIONS is coming up soon, right?

Yes!! Its June 30th. I’m so excited because its our Pride theme. We have Munroe Lilly and Merlot, and starting this month we will feature a non-black POC performer--because all POC’s deserve Reparations--and our first feature is Magenta.

Reperations underway! Before this, you’re going to perform this Saturday in the West Village for Emi Grate's “A+” revue at the Monster, which usually consists of all-Asian queens. Are you Asian at all?

I am! My grandfather on my mother’s side has family in Bihar, which is eastern India. Though I’m a huge mutt: my Dad is From Nigeria, and my Mother is Indian, black, and white.

And you're gonna perform a cute party / show at Macri Park this Sunday, Resident Shevil! What's the theme behind that one?

Well, Resident Is an open platform dance party that is focused around club beats. It’s the love child of my URL-to-IRL friend DJ Dreamcast--it’s his resident party in San Francisco. If you love to dance, this is the party for you!

Then you’re kicking off Pride Weekend with "Lets Have a Tiki" at the Dromedary Bar, where I believe you've previously hosted a Pokemon Tournament! Angelica Sundae, Mini Horrorwitz, Mary Con & DJ Lady Simon will be there with you. This should be cute!

Anyone who’s worked with me knows that I love food, and Dromedary has a great menu. I’ve had my anime-inspired party there, Annie Maé, and thought, “why not have another party there too?” It’s gonna be a Pride bash that celebrates the past, with a twist. There’s even gonna be a virgin sacrifice!

Anything else coming up?

Yes, I’m releasing my first mixtape at the end of July. It’s called The Mx. Tape, and will have all my original songs I've performed over the past year: songs like, “Boyfriend Twins,” “Breaking Binary” and “Baroque n’ Boujee,” to name a few!

That’s incredible, congratulations! And finally... if you were stuck on a desert island with a BK nightlife sister or brother, who would you choose to be stuck with?

Hmmm... that’s a tough one! I’d say my drag sister Yoya. No other queen makes me laugh like she can. She’s crazy and a mess, but also vastly loyal... and taking care of people brings out the best in me.

Untitled Review

My bias said since there’re only 2 years left until Arashi’s 20th, they have 2 years to test their limits and boundaries before being busy celebrating entering their 3rd decade, thus, that is what I choose to focus on in appreciating this album...

Green Light - Top batter. I wasn’t sucked into this immediately, but my impression of it has changed. The preview on the website which only featured the chorus made me think of their kouhais (HSJ, Kisumai), but the lower notes changed my mind. I find that I don’t dislike the tuning on the members’ voice, so that’s good. The transitions are niggling me though. Feels like it could have been done more smoothly. I find that the contrasts throw me off a little. Still one of my favourites from the album though.

Mikan - When I first heard it, I was blooming mad because of the mishmash of genres that didn’t feel like they mesh. But as I listened to it more, I became convinced that it is a daring attempt. It was what hinted me at what Arashi was trying to do with the album this round, before they dropped any other details about it. My condolences about the MV, but with Sho as bias, I don’t find myself complaining much when I’ve got that pair dance to flail over. 

Sugar - Love the beat. I call these kinds of songs the ‘blast them out loud as you you go for a drive maybe at coastal roads ala what they do in MVs’ (or ‘Drive songs’ for short). Members singing in the back has got my attention rather than the member that’s doing the main, like when they’re going ‘sugaa~~rrr’ and ‘my loo~~vee’. Also, something about this reminds me of EXILE. 

Ari no Mama de - Clap your hands to this, yeah~ Wave it side to side, yeah~ Channel your 1D fangirl heart, yeah~ (there, I’ve gone and said it). I want to be skipping around with my tween girlfriends while holding hands. Quite Western boyband-ish *cough* for our Japanese manband.

Fu’un - Kamen Rider or Super Sentai OSTs. Nothing really bad about it, but it’s never really been my kind of song.  

Houyou - The first half felt a bit complicated. I couldn’t tell when the song was going to settle. And then I realized it wouldn’t. Then Sakurap actually caught me in this state which I’m thankful for. Bias he may be, it felt like a float to hold onto in the middle of a calm sea, but in the middle of the sea nonetheless. Edit: I found out the meaning. Suffice to say, no wonder I felt lost.. ahaha..

Pray - Shojo slice-of-life ending theme song. I’m seeing curious faces peeking out of umbrellas and up at the sky as the rain lets up but the air is still heavy with moisture (that’s probably just the ‘傘’ word getting in the way, though).  

Hikari - Ninoooo~~~~~~ If I sounded this good opening a song, I’d call it out as my favorite, too. I can sort of see him as Disney princess singing to charm the tiny critters who’ll become his allies. Gospel-ish, just like they said in the jweb vid. Definitely a song that makes you stand up and sway left-right and clapping to beat. I like songs where there is obvious non-member backing, mostly because if it’s performed, then I like the backup singers in the con to have their time to shine. Or, they could have a choir, but they did that two years ago in Miyagi, so idk. The Sakurap isn’t my favourite kind, but appreciating the versatility. Would’ve liked to hear the 15-seconds after Ohno’s main following Sakurap as a cappella, but oh well. 

Kanata e - I couldn’t make my mind up about the song until after the 1min mark. I’ll be honest and say only the chorus is sort of working for me. Sounds like uplifting anime OST. The rest... doesn’t really stick.

Song for you - This was great. This is great. Arashi did me in with this one. Ohno had gotten to me on Msute (I’m kinda weak for Ohno’s solo lines in group songs). But then they sang in unison the same lines/melody towards the end, and I can honestly say, the 5 of Arashi topped Ohno solo. That part was... beautiful. I don’t really have any other way to describe it. Whatever it was that Ohno found in Miles Away last year, they didn’t let it be a one-time thing and go to waste. 

Kanpai Song - Either Kanjani or WEST. This was a Kansai song that thought it might want to do a little ‘上京’ing. From the title, I was expecting something like Energy Song. The theme was, the melody not so much. It’s not a song I would dislike, but clashes a bit with my image of current Arashi.

Unit Songs:

Curiosity Team - Bazuri Night: Initial D (?) Eurobeat stuff I should think. Fuzakeru song, as I thought it’ll be when I saw the unit (I might not show it, but I’m still a bit sore about Yama). I had this teeny hope for a slow song when the Machi ga Irodzuku koro video was going around, but Aiba on Rekomen explained that it wasn’t so. So the song is basically the old men having their night out unsupervised. I don’t mind doing some ParaPara to this.

 Riida and his babies - Yoru no Kage: They sound like a a KPop group trying to promote themselves in Japan (in the sense that the group puts more effort since they’re trying to enter a foreign market). That, or Miura Daichi. I was pretty sure we’re going to get something classy from this unit though, so in that aspect I wasn’t disappointed. Nice high notes. Jun did great matching the other two, always have been a bit of his specialty, I should think. Looking forward to the performance. 

Soubusen Nakama - UB: Unit bath. Of course. What were we thinking of getting when it’s these two. A straight ballad? Pfft. But the harmonizing is sweet. If I didn’t know better, I think I’m hearing open fields and clear endless blue skies with whispy clouds. There’s something Western (American outback? not country though) about it. It’s kinda cute if you don’t think about the meaning too much. 

Sakumoto - Comeback: So, this is something like if MC Sakurai and DJ Matsumoto from Arafes ‘13 got together for real and decided to do something from 2 decades ago. I have no objections to this (kidding, I LOVE it).   It is ‘Get Arrested Pt. II’ after all. The countdowns in the song works so much for me. Gets you all riled up and excited for them. I can already hear the dead whale noises I’ll be making as watching the DVD next year induces a cardiac arrest in me. Edit: I just remembered the Yakai episode where they have an ICU girl describe Sho as having ‘good vibes’. It’d tickle me if that’s where the phrase in the lyrics come from.

Why do I feel that this album is pretty polarizing? I’ve seen some people who aren’t into it (Japanese fans, though). I’m supposing it’s all the new sounds we’re hearing? However, despite that, I’ll repeat what I said in a post the other day,  I hope they can continue doing something different without fear of backlash from fans. Personally, I’m really happy with it. 

Edit: After getting a proper looks, I’m wondering how much the members were involved with the lyrics. Song For You, for example, would be really weird if it was written without the members having any say at all. I mean, it’s beautiful, it’s a story of the group’s journey, but if a complete stranger wrote it then... you know. Kinda weird. Idk.

P.S.: There’s always this one song in each con that makes me wish I was there whenever I watch the con DVD, eg, Hope in the Darkness for Digitalian, Ohno’s Akatsuki in Japonism, and Nino’s Mata Kyou in AYH. But Song For You makes me wish I could have attended the con just from the sound of it. Here’s to them giving the song the justice it deserves.

As part of our ongoing "Rap's New Generation" series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist InsanAsylum LLC from Houston, Tx to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint...

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, InsanAsylum LLC! Let's go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

InsanAsylum LLC: Our organization began in the student commons area of the University of Houston Moody Towers in September of 1988. That is where Colden Brown aka Mr. Get Down and Steve Rogers aka G-MAN connected through listening to a Boom Box while playing spades. The conversation delved into the Four Pillars of Hip Hop and how it molded their existence. From ICE T to Ultramagnetic MCs. Let us not forget Mr. Get Down retreating to his room to pull out his WBLS tapes he recorded that summer. Being that both loved music, Colden was a poet and Steve a DJ they decided to join forces. Since then #InsanAsylum has worked with several underground artists which began with P.O.T. ~ Prophets Of Truth which is recognized as a legendary group of the then burgeoning Seattle Hip Hop Scene (circa 1995). After two projects with P.O.T. ("Da Funk N Revelations" & The Legacy") K..S.D. – King Solomon's D.R.E.A.D. struck off to Solo career which led him to drop two singles produced by Pale Soul of Old Dominion. Then came his critically acclaimed release "incognito" in 2004…the 1st of the 'Triunal Antiquities' which was finally completed this year with the release of 'antithesis'; the second release was 'psychoanalysis'.

Le Cadre will have a video up for the upcoming single "Where My Niccas At?" which is from his initial debut under #InsanAsylumDistribution during this #InsanAsylum #30fo30 campaign.

The G.M.C. is currently selecting tracks and visualizing how they will bang into their Spring 2019 release.

….last but now least #InsanAsylumProductions is laying the foundaiton to release their 3rd Insatallment of the "Whatchu Talkin' Bout?" mixtape series…should be out in the Summer/Fall 2019.

Star Wars Half Marathon Episode II: The 10K

2 o’clock occurs once a day and it is not in the morning, unless I’m running a RunDisney race. Then that’s usually when my alarm goes off. I was horrified at the Expo when I realized this morning would be even a little earlier since I had to factor a bus ride into my plan for the 10K.

A Challenge consists of two races, a 10K on Saturday and a half marathon on Sunday for a total of 19.3 miles. Today was the Star Wars 10K. The plot of this year’s Star Wars Half Marathon – the Dark Side is that everyone is trying out to join Captain Phasma’s Stormtrooper forces. I didn’t know we needed a plot for a race but character integrity and what not. Both races are on brand new courses that start at Ticket and Transport Center (Magic Kingdom‘s parking lot, the TTC) and end at Epcot. I have personally never seen a race start at the TTC, but I’ve only been doing RunDisney since 2014 and they’ve been doing these races for almost twenty-five years. This meant I had to park at Epcot and get on a bus to the TTC. After my experience at the Wine and Dine Half, I wanted to make sure I had plenty of time so I left around 2:20 am. That was the time same I set my alarm for my first ever half marathon, but at least today didn’t involve waking anyone up for emergency costume modifications.

I applaud the poor Cast Members working these events. I can only imagine what time they had to get up. I was slightly miffed they didn’t give the parking attendants lightsabers to use instead of their normal wands, but the guy pretending to use the Force to park the cars in the correct spots more than made up for it. I was unable to find the actual row number for where I parked but I tried to note I was in the third or fourth row. I was really early! They actually were not letting us in yet, we were held at the bag check tables for about five minutes before the Cast Members started letting us through. Volunteers were inside handing out red glow stick “lightsabers” to everyone. I was on the second of the charter buses, and my efficiency training made me sit go all the way in the back instead of the front like everyone else but it worked out since it got me a seat to myself.

I got off the bus at the TTC about 3:45 am. I had already been up almost two hours and the race wasn’t even starting until 5:30! At least it gave me plenty of time to meet characters. The first line I came to was BB-8 and I haven’t made it to his new meet and greet at Disney’s Hollywood Studios yet, so he was my immediate priority. His line moved fairly quickly and I only waited ten minutes. Then I moved onto the Jabba the Hutt line, which was a little longer. Jabba was more of a backdrop than a character, but he’s also the only one you can’t really find in the parks.

Well, you can’t meet Boba Fett, but I’ve met him before. Thank you, Star Wars Weekends. I’m so glad I was exposed to them when I had the chance. My last stop was the backdrop that is apparently from Cloud City. I just thought it made for a neat photo and the rest of the lines had gotten to the point I didn’t think I’d get through them before they pulled the characters. They had Captain Phasma, Kylo Ren, Darth Vader and Boba Fett in addition to Jabba and BB-8.

After I got that shot I wandered over the stage to watch DJ Elliot and a guy from the Disney Parks Blog (I have no idea what his name is even though they said it like four times, but I’ve seen him on live streams) give away prizes to people who correctly answered trivia questions. My personal favorite was a ten year old girl dressed as Rey who managed to finish a ridiculously hard quote. It’s the scene in the Millennium Falcon where they’re flying through the asteroid field and we thought it was going to cut off after C-3P0 so she could yell, “NEVER TELL ME THE ODDS!”, but instead it cut off as C-3P0 says, “The odds are-”

So this adorable little girl responds, “Three thousand… seven hundred… and twenty?” SHE GOT IT RIGHT! Let me tell you how I would not have gotten that, and they gave her like three prizes. Adults answered easier questions incorrectly. I hung out there until they said it was time to head for the start corrals. I made a stop on the way at my longest line of the day, for the bathroom.

This is my least favorite part of any race I have ever run, standing in the starting corral waiting for it to start. It’s usually staring at my phone except nothing much is happening at 5 am for me to read and no one is awake to talk to. I had several friends running but they all had their own groups, and I didn’t even know for sure what corrals they were in. I wound up behind a group of Tie-Fighters. They had the wings tied to their arms, and while it looked amazing I don’t know how you’d make it through the more narrow parts of the course without knocking someone out. I applaud their construction though: foam core and duck tape. Simple, cheap and lightweight! They screened The Last Jedi trailer which was awesome, but I was too far back to see it very well. I did hear a guy yell, “QUITTER!” After Luke’s line about the Jedi needing to end.

The final bit before they sent the wheelchair racers off involved two Stormtroopers scaring the announcers off stage and giving everyone an intro about their tryouts to serve Captain Phasma. I was just disappointed it wasn’t the two Stormtroopers from the Star Wars Weekend intros and Hyperspace Hoopla. It lacked the genuine hilarity and playing off each other, and the voice actors weren’t the same. I think all park Stormtroopers should always be them, and I want them to get their own TV show. Seriously. Get on that, Mouse.

They were trying something new in sending each corral off in three “mini waves”, which best as I can tell reduced the number of fences they had to put up but still sent people off in the same quantities as usual. I wasn’t watching the time very closely to see what time I actually started but according to my runner tracking it was 5:52 am. I was itching to get going by then and was so relieved when the fireworks for Corral D finally went off.

I did no training for this race. I always mean to and yet I never do. Ever since I infamously ran a marathon once without training for it, it makes it even harder to convince myself to put the time in that I should. I can run one race without training, but I usually limp for a few days afterwards. (I stayed in bed for like three days after the marathon.) On the last Challenge I ran, Lumiere’s Two Course Challenge, I overdid it on the 10K and had nothing left in the tank for the Half. In order to prevent that from happening again, my plan was to walk as much of this race as possible so I could run tomorrow instead.

I crossed the starting line at a run but I held it only about as half as long as I normally do. Even when I do train, I’m lousy at intervals. I kept it at a fast walk from there for most of the race, which honestly I was still keeping pace with a lot of runners around me. We passed a high school marching band that was playing a medley of Star Wars music.

The first character I came to was R2-D2 probably three-quarters of a mile from the starting line. I didn’t stop for him and I wish I had, but his line was pretty long. For someone who doesn’t train, I end up worrying about time a lot. I passed the characters from Star Wars Rebels somewhere around mile two, and had I known who they were that might have been more tempting.

This is hands down my least favorite RunDisney course I’ve ever run. We had an almost three mile straight away between the TTC and the ramp to Hollywood Studios with only two character stops and a whole lot of nothing. There were a couple screens just playing the different movie clips. They had Vader’s chair for a photo op at the start of the ramp, and that is a LONG ramp. Even if I hadn’t been walking most of the race, I would have had to walk that. My bad knee does not like it when we run on uneven ground like that. Maybe it was because I was purposely going slow or the lack of volunteers cheering, but it just seemed to take forever to get to Hollywood Studios. (I would like to clarify there were lots of volunteers handing out water and I am grateful, but there seemed to be less than I have seen at other races.)

My first genuine moment of encouragement came from a security guard as we made the turn into the backstage area of Hollywood Studios. Darth Maul was right around the turn, but his line was HUGE. I kept going and found myself backstage between Tower of Terror and the “Fantasmic” stadium. The 501st was out in full force inside the stadium with tons of random characters, main and minor, from the series. For those who aren’t familiar, the 501st Rebel Legion is a group of dedicated Star Wars fans with screen accurate costumes. They had a big event at Star Wars Celebration last weekend and they have been present at every nerd event I’ve ever been to in my life, (MegaCon, Tampa Bay Comic Con, Star Wars Weekends, etc.). Coming out of the stadium I saw Boba Fett and Jango Fett, and they were so good I honestly can’t tell you if they were 501st or Disney.

There were several bellhops out in front of Tower of Terror before I got to Sunset Boulevard, but I decided it was better to just take a selfie. There was a set of two Stormtroopers that I passed, followed by another set. Had I realized I would be out of Hollywood Studios in the next few minutes, I probably would have stopped. My fault for not studying the course more carefully. I ran through most of the park since I was hyped up and there were Photopass photographers everywhere. Ever since my mom got worried by me walking in a previous race’s photos, I refuse to be caught walking on camera.

The run between Hollywood Studios and Epcot through the Boardwalk is a very tight one. It’s a sidewalk, a literal sidewalk, and it’s not wide enough to accommodate many people at once. There’s a lot of bumping and unintentional shoving. I’m also not a fan of running on the Boardwalk. It wasn’t wet this morning but it’s been wet previous races, and I watched a guy wipe out super hard taking a turn too fast during the Wine and Dine.

However, I did see one of my favorite shirts during this stretch! Anyone who’s not super familiar with RunDisney probably doesn’t know who the Balloon Ladies are, and I actually had to Google them before I ever encountered them. They are a group of lovely ladies that cross the starting line last and run at exactly sixteen minutes per mile, the longest average time you can maintain without getting pulled from the course. They run just in front of the bikes that do the actual sweeping. They don’t work for Disney, they are volunteers and their goal is to give people the encouragement they need to stay ahead of the sweepers. Naturally, there are some people who are afraid of encountering them and there’s gotten to be quite a few running jokes about them. Like this shirt! The only time I’ve seen the Balloon Ladies I’m proud to say was during the 2016 Walt Disney World Marathon, they were coming into ESPN Wide World of Sports as I was heading out.

Coming around the turn from the Boardwalk into the World Showcase entrance to Epcot, I spotted Chewbacca. Since I knew I was getting close to the finish line, I figured I could stop. I also seized the opportunity to get a Pokestop and catch a Magikarp. There was a Cast Member directing runners to go around the patch of grass in the median due to the pot holes in it. As I waited in line, the people behind me kept loudly complaining about her and the other Cast Members enforcing the rules. I had to bite my tongue in order not to say anything as one girl yelled in protest as they made her friend go around instead of going through the grass. All it takes is one person not paying attention, charging through and hurting themselves, and Disney has a lawsuit on their hands. Then the Cast Member that failed to stop you is in trouble and probably unemployed. I really, REALLY don’t like it when people give Cast Members crap for doing their jobs.

I ran through most of Epcot from World Showcase to Spaceship Earth. They had Stormtroopers standing on the stage next to the fountains looking menacing. People were taking pictures with them, but then I saw the Cast Members telling the next person who stopped no, so I kept going until I hit Guest Relations for another selfie.

I entered the backstage area that lead to the finish line to find more of the 501st waiting. I saw two more Mandalorian Bounty Hunters, including a female one with purple-blue armor. The last two characters were Rey and Tarfful off to the side, but I kept going. I’m not stopping for any Rey that isn’t an official Disney Rey or Daisy Ridley or herself. There was a sign stating these characters were fans and not official representations of Disney or LucasFilm.

I rounded the corner and broke into a full run until I hit the finish line, and had to pull up short because so many people were stopped just past it. I made my way down to the medals and was once again handed my medal instead of being presented it. I really don’t like that. The volunteer next to one I was in front of was putting them around peoples’ necks but I couldn’t get to her without cutting someone else off, so I just put it on myself. Not nearly as fun. The drink stations were next, just past first aid. I headed straight to the end for the blue powerade. I passed the photo booths and moved into the snack station and kept going all the way to the main area with the characters.

It took me a few tries to find Boba Fett’s line. I just wanted to get one photo with the medal and head out. He seemed to take forever but it was probably only half an hour. I was very surprised to learn he talks now! He didn’t do that the last time I met him!

My very last stop before the struggle to find my car was to ask a group in line behind me if I could take their photos. Absolutely best costumes I saw all day: Legends of the Jedi Temple. I couldn’t tell what the exact teams were but they had four different ones represented. They were also super cool about me asking them if I could take their picture. One of the girls just yelled at the rest of them, “GUYS! Photo time!”

Now I am sitting around in my pajamas and I’ve already watched Episode I and all of the Hyperspace Hoopla videos. BRING THAT BACK DISNEY!!! I’m trying to wait until at least 7 pm to try to go to bed so I sleep straight through to my alarm. Assuming I make it to the finish line, I’ll have that report up tomorrow.

For starters, when I turned 18, I had to start scheduling my own doctor appointments (which is terrifying on my end because I get extremely nervous talking to other people)  That for me was the beginning of my adult life (well not really, I kinda grew up too fast and had to take care of a bunch of things when I was younger….) 

Honestly, I say that for me, I hate paying off a loan that I needed, dealing with my overbearing parents that are wishy-washy about me working (another story for another day) and just so many other things. Sometimes it can get stressful, and other days I like being able to do things minors can’t do. 

Trust me, you don’t want to fuck up your life in your younger days, in the words of Bryson Tiller- DON’T. You have your entire life to figure out things and what you want to. Also, don’t try to bite off more than you can chew, (did that during the second half of my freshman year in college and kinda screwed up my G.P.A)

As part of our ongoing "Rap's New Generation" series, today we sat down with the upcoming underground artist GMane from Muscle Shoals to talk about his recent music, his upcoming projects, his career advice and his overall experiences being in the music industry and he did not disappoint...

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, GMane! Let's go back to the beginning of your career. How did you decide to become an artist?

GMane: My pops played piano, drums and guitar and was also a radio and club dj. I loved every kind of music so I was dj'ing at 9 years old. After "Rappers Delight" I was just a rap fan and by age 13, after hearing Chuck D and Ice T, I decided I wanted to rap. The rest is history.

What about concerts? Do you play live?

I play live every now and then, mostly festivals and car show type stuff. I've toured overseas so I'm really looking forward to getting back over there to that bag.

What are you currently working on? Did you release something in the past?

I was recently placed in an exhibit for hip hop at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. I've been doing some work for hire and just really really pushing my catalog that you can find exclusive at gmane.bandcamp.com. You can find me on Spotify, Apple Music, etc. as well as videos at YouTube.com/AlabamaHustleTV I've also recently got into the Southern Soul genre. I usually sing the hooks and stuff on my rap songs and folks suggested I do some blues, so I'm trying it out.

Last but not least: Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

It really depends on the terms. I've done some different deals in the past, I just made sure it was to my benefit. A pro of signing would be getting that extra push needed to get thru certain doors in the industry that an indie may not be able to get thru. A con of signing a deal, you'll probably end up broke.
