⤷ What a phenomenal achievement! So proud to see a talented young woman like her breaking barriers in the world of F1. Wishing her all the success!
⤷ This is just a publicity stunt. She's only getting this opportunity because of her famous last name, not her talent.
⤷ This is a fantastic step forward for diversity and equality in motorsport. It's inspiring to see her following in her father's footsteps.
⤷ I highly doubt she has what it takes to compete at the highest level. F1 requires exceptional skill and experience.
⤷ Such a talented and determined driver! Can't wait to witness her skills on the track and watch history being made. The future of F1 is bright!
⤷ Women don't belong in F1. It's a male-dominated sport for a reason. This is just political correctness gone too far.
⤷ Congratulations to her on this amazing opportunity! A new generation of talent is emerging and she's leading the way. Rooting for her every step of the way!
⤷ She's going to be a liability on the track. F1 is a dangerous sport and I just don't think she can handle the pressure.
⤷ I'm not impressed. There are more deserving drivers out there who have worked hard and earned their way into F1. This feels like a token gesture.
⤷ It's so exciting to see the Senna legacy continue. She's going to bring a fresh perspective and a new wave of enthusiasm to the sport. I followed her closely in Formula Renault and I’m looking forward to her F1 debut!

Excerpt from this story from Rolling Stone:
The iconic palomino stallion died on the same open lands he had roamed for years, but they looked unfamiliar to him in his last desperate moments. The dust from the helicopter kicking up behind him, the roar of the blades ceaselessly bearing down — it was enough to make him flee as fast as he could despite the leg he had snapped in half while trying to regain his freedom. His pursuers eventually tired of the chase, and a wrangler felled him with a rifle shot.
Sunshine Man was one of 21 wild horses killed at the behest of the Bureau of Land Management during a 2023 roundup in Nevada. And 2024 is looking to be even bloodier as the agency seeks to capture 20,000 horses by September. At least 11 horses died in a single northern Nevada roundup as of June 29. Few people know that wild horses are being driven to near extinction by inhumane roundups perpetrated by the federal government and funded by taxpayers. Unless we do something to end this antiquated, barbaric practice, wild horses will disappear forever.
A few years ago, my film crew and I set out on what would become a five-year journey across the American West to capture footage of wild horses for a film I was directing — an adaptation of Anna Sewell’s classic, Black Beauty. I have been a horse person since my youth; but it was on this trip, in the heart of the wild, that I first encountered the enduring magic and astounding beauty of these sacred symbols of American freedom.
I also experienced the chilling conspiracy that was threatening to permanently eradicate them in the cruelest way imaginable.
Under the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971 — which established federal protections for wild horses — the Bureau of Land Management is authorized to remove “excess” animals to protect the health of the range.
For decades, the BLM has captured thousands of wild horses and burros, claiming that an overpopulation of wild horses is causing land degradation or that the horses are in danger of starvation. But a landmark 2013 study conducted by the independent National Academy of Sciences found that the Bureau’s own justifications for removing wild horses and burros are not supported by science.
The sinister truth is that wild horses are being used as a scapegoat for the multibillion-dollar livestock industry.
Numerous independent studies and experts agree that livestock grazing, not wild horses, is the major cause of degrading public lands. A 2022 analysis of the Bureau’s own data found that livestock outnumber wild horses and burros on public lands by more than 125:1. Livestock grazing is identified as a “significant cause” of land degradation in 72 percent of the areas that fail to meet rangeland health standards.
Yet thousands of wild horses are still subject to violent roundups. In 2023, more than 5,000 wild horses and burros were removed from public lands, costing taxpayers about $160 million.
I witnessed these horrific roundups firsthand while filming my documentary, Wild Beauty: Mustang Spirit of the West.
The BLM uses helicopters to chase wild horses — including pregnant mares, elderly horses, and foals no more than a day old — for miles, sometimes in extreme heat, on grueling and dangerous terrain to the point of injury, exhaustion, and death. More horrific injuries occur as the terrified horses are forced into “trap sites” — narrowly fenced-in areas on the range where the horses collide in the melee, sometimes breaking their legs or necks as they try to escape.
The BLM repeatedly refused my film crew and journalists from the Associated Press access to the trap sites where deaths and injuries often occur. When we were eventually allowed access, we documented the horrendous conditions. We saw pain and terror in the horses’ eyes as blood streamed down their faces. I’ll never forget the sound of their cries as they were separated from their families.
The BLM insists helicopter roundups are humane — but there is nothing humane about using a helicopter to chase a highly intelligent, federally protected animal to its death. This is abuse.

In 1979, Robin Williams was an unknown 28-year-old comedian performing on the streets of New York City. Despite his relative obscurity at the time, he had a huge crowd gathered around him as he performed with his trademark energy and wit. His comedic genius captivated the audience, providing them with a glimpse of what would soon become one of the most iconic comedians in history. Little did they know that this young street performer would go on to star in some of the greatest films and television shows of all time, earning him five Grammy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, two Emmy Awards, and two Academy Awards. Even today, more than 45 years later, Robin Williams' legacy lives on through his timeless comedy.

From Val’s book “I’m Your Huckleberry”
Tumblr media
We love Westerns. We learn everything from Westerns and yet learn nothing from them. We continue killing ourselves in unconscionable ways
I’ve entitled this tome I’m Your Huckleberry for many reasons. I like the unintentional echo of Huckleberry Finn, which is my favorite novel and features my favorite character. I also realize that the line that I, playing the diseased Doc Holliday, articulated has become iconic. I speak it before shooting to death the fearsome Johnny Ringo, played by Michael Biehn. By the way, despite some fans’ contention that in the 1800s the handles of caskets were called huckles and thus the word huckle bearer was a term for pall bearer, I do not say, “I’m your huckle bearer.” I say, “I’m your huckleberry,” connotating, “I’m your man. You’ve met your match.”
In trying to understand the character of Doc Holliday, it’s important to remember he’s a fallen aristocrat, frustrated by his inability to express his authentic self. His greatest retribution for this loss was his caustic wit. His tongue is more lethal than his pistol. Throughout the drama, he’s dying of both drink and tuberculosis. In playing him, I thought of what my dear friend the great screenplay writer Robert Towne had taught me: all insightful dialogue comes out of situations, not predeveloped thought. In that regard, I saw Doc’s situation as dire. I also saw his action as defiance in the face of death. I loved him.
I was especially attuned to the rhythms of Doc’s speech, so much so that I called Kevin with the most specific of questions. I said, “There’s a comma on page thirty-two where I don’t think Doc needs to pause. Wouldn’t it be more effective if he simply drew out the line?”
“When you get more into the drawl,” said Kevin, “you’ll find that the pause is right.”
“Are you certain?”
“I am,” said Kevin. He was. And he was in no mood to argue about a comma. The fact that Kevin proved to be right—the comma was necessary to that musicality—shows that sometimes the writer hears his creation with greater acuity than the actor. Sometimes.
Rehearsals were hilarious. There were five or six actors who had played leads in blockbusters. Many times very small parts seemed to become what the whole film was about.
Fortunately, my wife and daughter were on set. Our little girl glowed; she was radiant and adorable and won the hearts of the entire crew. Everyone wanted to play with Mercedes. All went well until the first day of shooting. Moments of mystical wonderment morphed into a filmmaking fiasco.
Kurt Russell and I were on horses. Horses are always tricky. They want to move. They do move. Even super-skilled riders like me and Kurt had to listen to the whims of our steeds, and this day they were trying to tell us something. Writer Kevin Jarre was directing.
And then Kevin Jarre shouted, “Action!” The problem was, there was no shot. Kevin had positioned the camera at an untenable angle. It seemed to me that Kevin, great writer though he was, didn’t know much about directing. Kurt looked me straight in the eye and said, “Val, we’re in trouble.” I had to say something. I did, as gently as possible, but there was no way my remarks didn’t reveal Kevin’s ineptitude. He didn’t last long. Blockbuster director George Cosmatos was brought in. Dozens of cast and crew members were canned. It was an unholy mess. I teamed up with Kurt to edit long sections of the script, because the studio couldn’t give us any more time or money and we were already a month into shooting, which we now had to make up for. It’s amazing the film turned out as well as it did.
I cherish the experience of working with Kurt, whom I love like a brother. When the Academy widens their awards to include something like the lifetime achievement award for Best, Most Unique, Lovely Person for Decades in a Row, if Kurt isn’t the first recipient, I’ll eat my Doc Holliday hat. The film has a cult following, as does my beloved Doc.

Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge celebrated it's 20th anniversary last weekend. Typing out that sentence makes me want to crumble into dust and be blown away on the westerly wind.
The album defined an era for me, as it did for many. I was just 17 when it came out, and nothing was ever the same again. Oh the nostalgia of teenage angst lol.
Gerard always had a knack for great lyrics, great storytelling and a look that inspired* a million third-wave emo kids still finding their place in the world.
I still remember seeing that Helena video for the very first time. Iconic.
Picking a favourite track is like being asked to pick your favourite child. I truly love every track but Give 'Em Hell Kid and Hang 'Em High will always have a place in my heart.
I managed to see them twice during this era and they didn't disappoint. Putting on an absolutely electric performance with some the most intense and passionate crowds I've ever witness, as I nearly died in a crashing wave of people at the Manchester Academy.
When I saw them in 2022 at the Milton Keynes Stadium, they still had it, the raw passion and aggression were still there and I still knew all the words.
So, happy 20th anniversary to one of the greatest albums of the genre!
*including me, who wore a black shirt and red tie to his 2006 prom...

A new episode! Im ready to get right into it!! This was a fun episode to do!!!!
The episode starts with our favorite trio out in the field, at some type of fair/event and we are introduced to a new Lucy hairstyle, her iconic braided buns and it is one of my favorite ones.  There is visible tension between John and Lucy as they are freshly broken up, but that tension is oblivious to Jackson as he isn’t picking up on it, like at all.  The break-up is one that was for the better but seeing John being all mopey as he is literally a grown man is an ick. Like get it together man!  It doesn’t help with his longing pining as he overlooks Lucy talking to a firefighter, Antonio, who is by far better suited for her, mainly in the age range.
Tumblr media
The premise of this show is about an older than average guy joining the police academy so it is to be expected that this first season would primarily revolve around John.  I appreciate how he can be the hero and the comedic relief at the same time.  For all the times he isn’t our favorite, we have to give credit where credit is due.  John has some of the best one-liners and funny bits, that we have seen from everybody! I like that for him.  On the complete opposite spectrum, he also shows heroic acts.  I don’t know what made him wander into the side yard by those kids to quickly rush into the back yard, but thankful he did because he rescued the little boy who fell into the pool.
We have the introduction of a new character, John’s friend, Ben, who is also the owner of the house that John has been staying in.  I mean, lets be real, did any of us think that  house actually belonged to John!
In the roll call room, spirits are high as everyone knows what day it is: Roundup Day!  I think this is the first time since episode 1, we’ve seen Tim excited and with a smile on his face. Angela and Jackson are just as excited and ready for this competition day.  The rules are explained and the game is on.
We have not seen any previous Roundup days, but we know that Tim hasn’t lost in the past 5 years and he wants to continue his streak, so he makes sure that doesn’t happen.  Enter Nell, another new character we are introduced to this episode.  She is the precincts 9-1-1 dispatcher and Tim knows how to woo her to get what he wants: the first one she calls for any incoming calls and she does exactly that.
Angela and Jackson are returning to the precinct booking 2 felons before Tim and Lucy have even left the station…let the games begin.
Jackson and Angela respond to a call for a wellness check for a hospital disappearance.  After checking in on the elderly gentleman, Mr. Walker, Jackson was too quick to dismiss the call and leaver after speaking to him where as Angela knows.  She tells Jackson there’s something up with Mr. Walker and wander around to the side of the house and they witness him with a bag full of stolen drugs.  Angela knows the signs and what to look for, that’s not say Jackson won’t, he will, he just needs to learn them through his training.
John is itching to get in on this game, so he makes the executive decision to enter into it himself but only after getting highly annoyed by firefighter Antonio who asks him about Lucy.  I mean, you can’t fault the guy, he is young and Lucy is pretty.
Side Note: My fellow One Tree Hill fans!!! Skills!!!!! I love seeing other favorite actors on different shows!
Back in the “7-Adam-19” shop, Lucy initiates, or at least tries too, a personal conversation with Tim about Nell.  He quickly shuts it down with his infamous, “I’m married, Officer Chen and this isn’t something you and I talk about”. (Again, I’m trying so hard to act as if I haven’t watched any other episodes/seasons but little does Tim know….) Stoic, emotionless Tim is activated as he tells her to keep her eyes out for the DUI suspect, much to Lucy’s dismay, as I think she’s just whole heartedly trying to get to know Tim, with no other ulterior motives, and he isn’t being receptive towards it.  They come up on the DUI suspect and Lucy is taken aback with Tim as he is reading him his Miranda rights as well as demanding a blood sample while basically bleeding out before the ambulance takes him away.  Lucy is associating the DUI suspect as a human who was severely injured and not as a drunk driver who possibly killed a child and committed a serious crime.  I think this is where we start to see her empathy start to show.  No matter TIm’s feelings or not towards this suspect, he’s being a police officer.  He needs to demand and obtain the blood sample before its too late for the drivers victim or else it will all be for nothing.  Lucy will eventually learn that.
Tumblr media
In the shop again, Lucy is clearly annoyed with Tim after his behavior and actions with the DUI suspect. Tim picks up on it as well based on her attitude towards him that she isn’t happy, but he explains it needed to happen.  Her annoyance continues as she thinks he seems more interested in racking up points on the scoreboard than prioritizing the arrests of the bank robbers in front of them, which is not the case per Tim, because he can do both!  Tim is smarter than them, as he proves it when he pepper sprays them out of the money truck.  As good as Lucy is, her methods of policing still reflect naively.  Lucy would’ve just waited around for back up if it weren’t for Tims quick thinking methods and they both gain points making 2 more arrests.  Let us all just very much appreciate the bickering of Tim and Lucy literally bickering like an old married couple so early on, and it is only the beginning of this beautiful relationship!
It’s a nice sight to see Captain Anderson again!
Getting closer to the end of the episode, is usually when all of the separate storylines wrap up and merge into one larger one, as we see visible when John, Talia, Tim and Lucy come together to take down these Mob bosses.  I don’t think Lucy meant to trip and fall, but it helped with all of the arrests, so Go Lucy!!  It seems to be a trend, but I like this way of ending episodes, with some, if not all of the characters working together to achieve the common goal!! A great way to include the entire ensemble!
Tumblr media
This is the first time we really see Lucy interact with Angela and again with Talia.  So far, we’ve only really seen her mainly with Jackson and John, personally and Tim, professionally.  Lucy overhears the girls trying to decide what to do with their own points and how to divvy them up and when she puts things together, she realizes that they are doing it all in the sake for Tim so he can win.  It’s brought full circle because of Isabel. Tim and Isabel used to excel as partners in the Roundup, so of course this would be a sensitive day for Tim.  Angela and Talia were witnesses to those years prior and know how different this year looks so they need to too this for him.  Lucy took note how much this competition means to Tim but Talia and Angela knew the importance and meaning all along.
Angela announces Tim and Lucy as the winners, now 6 years for Tim and the first for Lucy and Tim is thrilled.  He remains the reigning champion, yes, it probably boosts his ego a little, but at the end of the day, he needed to win it for his own mental health.  A reminder of what was once good between the relationship that once was with him and Isabel.
Jackson is still struggling with, I suppose, his self worth of being a cop.  He knows that he got to where he is at because of his dad, but Angela encourages him to prove where he can go in spite of his dad. I love that for them.  This friendship is quickly growing on me!
John and Lucy still seemingly pining for each other is becoming old quick.  It is clear as day that Lucy is so far out of Johns league.  She doesn’t need him and she really never did.  I think the relationship started out of convenience and maybe even boredom while in the academy.  At this point, just be done, and move on.
The episode ends with John (of course) and his friend Ben, who may be the best thing that The Rookie introduced us to so far.  Ben and his wise words is what John needs to hear: maybe its time for him to be alone for a while and see where that gets him….only time and watching more episodes will tell!
______________________________________________________________
Honorable Mention: Lucy’s Braids! I wish they kept this hairstyle longer!
Episode Peak:  Tim winning The Roundup.
Episode Pit: There really wasn’t anything that bad in this episode, so none for this week!
Quote of the Episode: “We’re not robots, Officer Nolan.  We all have our bad days but our bad days pale in comparison to the people we meet” - Talia Bishop
Episode Rating: 8/10.  This episode was a quick and easy watch.  Nothing too major happening but not too slow either.  We got some solid baby Chenford crumbs in it as well! I liked it!
___________________________________________________________
I decided to start adding pictures throughout the blog! I'm thinking it add a little extra spice to it!
Another one down! I definitely took a different approach to this recap, I don’t know why, it just felt way better to recap it in episode order, rather than by the parings and relationships.  I guess it will all depend on the episodes for my blog style, but I am not minding it!  They are also getting way easier and more fun to do! 5 down, 15 to go for season 1! My god I am flying through these!! This one also is probably my shortest review but that’s okay!! They all don’t have to be super long!!!
Until next time in “Get in the Shop”… ;)

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marie Magdalene "Marlene" Dietrich (born in Berlin, Germany on 27 December 1901) was a German-born actress who often blurred the feminine and masculine, making her "The Queer Icon."
Dietrich's earliest appearances were as a chorus girl in 1922. Making film history, she was cast in Germany’s first talkie The Blue Angel (1930) by director Josef von Sternberg. With the success of the movie, von Sternberg took her to Hollywood under contract to Paramount Pictures. She soon had hits like Morocco (1930) and Shanghai Express (1932).
When war broke, she set up a fund to help Jews and dissidents and toured extensively for the allied effort. After the war, she limited her cinematic life.

Today, Hendricks can look back at a spectacular career, having produced 116 Top 10 singles, 75 of which peaked at No. 1. All toll his number one records have spent 117 weeks (over 2 years) at the top of the chart. He has earned six awards from the Academy of Country Music, two from the Country Music Association as well as an Emmy Award for his production for the theme song of Monday Night Football with Hank Williams Jr. His production credits include the best of the best: Restless Heart, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Faith Hill, John Michael Montgomery, Trace Adkins, Dan + Shay, Jana Kramer, Michael Ray, William Michael Morgan and Blake Shelton among many others. He achieved perhaps the ultimate distinction in this age of reality TV when he joined Shelton four times as a mentor on NBC’s The Voice.
By the time he began his studies at OSU, Hendricks was ready and eager to pursue a career in music. He miraculously found a job working in the Audio Visual Center on campus where he met Tim DuBois. They recorded many of their songwriting demos there, starting on a 2-track recorder and then graduating to a 4-track. Hendricks also started playing guitar in a Top 40 band called Marin. Eventually, once hearing a better guitar player, Greg Jennings, he volunteered to become the front of house mixer. When he found that the school’s undergraduate programs didn’t quite fit with his ambitions, he took the initiative to create and gain approval for a unique degree in architectural acoustics. The school mapped out a curriculum that included classes in engineering, music, radio/film/television and the graduate program in architecture. The end goal was to find a way to get into a professional recording studio one day.
With his Marin bandmate, Greg Jennings (who later became the guitar player in Restless Heart), Hendricks relocated to Nashville just one day after they had earned their degrees, not bothering to wait for the cap-and-gown ceremony. Through his numerous trips to Nashville with Tim DuBois pitching their songs to publishers, Hendricks had a job lined up following graduation working at a company as a recording studio acoustician and salesman of recording equipment. Hendricks then befriended engineer and fellow Oklahoman Ron Treat at the Glaser Brothers’ Studio, where he spent every night after his day job assisting Treat and watching legendary producer Jimmy Bowen work. There, he witnessed some of country music’s greatest recordings.
In 1984, Hendricks and Tim DuBois took a chance on recording an unnamed band to secure a record deal. That band became Restless Heart and was signed to RCA Records. Many hits followed including the iconic song “I’ll Still Be Loving You”. This launched the 30+ year career of producing.

Marlene Dietrich photographed by John Engstead
Marie Magdalene "Marlene" Dietrich (27 December 1901 – 6 May 1992) was a German and American actress and singer whose career spanned from the 1910s to the 1980s.
In 1920s Berlin, Dietrich performed on the stage and in silent films. Her performance as Lola Lola in Josef von Sternberg's The Blue Angel (1930) brought her international acclaim and a contract with Paramount Pictures. She starred in many Hollywood films, including six iconic roles directed by Sternberg: Morocco (1930) (her only Academy Award nomination), Dishonored (1931), Shanghai Express and Blonde Venus (both 1932), The Scarlet Empress (1934), The Devil Is a Woman (1935). She successfully traded on her glamorous persona and exotic looks, and became one of the era's highest-paid actresses. Throughout World War II, she was a high-profile entertainer in the United States. Although she delivered notable performances in several post-war films, including Billy Wilder's A Foreign Affair (1948), Alfred Hitchcock's Stage Fright (1950), Billy Wilder's Witness for the Prosecution (1957), Orson Welles's Touch of Evil (1958), and Stanley Kramer's Judgment at Nuremberg (1961), she spent most of the 1950s to the 1970s touring the world as a marquee live-show performer.

RED RISING BOOK 1 CHARACTER TIER LIST + FULL THOUGHTS! >:D
Below is my review of book 1, I'll go into spoilers. After this, I'm either gonna move onto a different book or try to find golden son. Not sure which one will happen.
But yeah, great book, 4 stars, or 8/10! Definitely just set up for things to come in the trilogy, but also a really good setup & story.
PREFACE: This is from the perspective from somebody who DOESN'T read books for fun too often. Red Rising was the first book in a long while I chose to read for fun since Harry Potter in 1st year high school (I didn't even finish the series, I stopped at the start of Half Blood Prince). So you're dealing with one of the most casual guys who went into the series. Another thing: I came into the series thinking it would be similar to Nimona (2023) or Sylas's story from League, since I brought up these two things when I first asked for book recs, so my expectations were HORRIBLY wrong (kind of, sylas's lore is pretty similar and the only difference is that sylas gets STRAIGHT into action but also his characterization sucks). So my perspective is strange, is what I'm saying, and I am far from the most valid person to be seriously reviewing this book. I'm just sharing this for fun lmao :P
I'm just writing the first few things that come to my mind, so stick with me people! These are messy, unfiltered thoughts.
This book is rough, really whumpy at the start of the book, but it's good whump. It's just setting up and establishing what's to come and to make all the payoffs feel better by showing us the insane suffering Darrow goes through. But also? Damn. That was rough. it felt like grimdark (this is coming from the perspective of a guy who actively avoids all things grimdark - with the exception of whump fanfics on ao3).
And then we get into the institution, and I just went, "oh. This is hunger games harry potter." I was a bit disappointed to be honest, I know the book is called "red rising" and it literally means "the slow rise of a red" so he still needs to prepare himself for what's to come, but also... eh?????? Someone in Reddit called this segment "pierce brown kidnapping fans of the hunger games when it was at the peak of its popularity", which ✨️iconic behavior✨️ but I was a bit confused as we took this academy stuff seriously. But slowly, I grew into it when the characters started interacting. I liked it when Darrow was interacting with others since the first half of the book felt so isolating. I liked every single scene Sevro shows up since he brings so much chaos and fun to a story that had so much downtrodden underlying sadness. The chapter 9 reveal is still hitting me, like "damn FUCK THESE GUYS BRO, WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS PLANET HAS ALREADY BEEN TERRAFORMED???" Also because sevro's fucking awesome, but that's besides the point. The same goes for Darrow's scenes with Virginia and pre-sword fight Cassius, but they aren't as iconic as Sevro.
Darrow is a super compelling protagonist for the story he's in. Making him this power fantasy fulfillment guy makes things feel all the more liberating when he beats the shit out of a guy, it's sort of like a shonen anime protagonist, I guess (i don't watch anime btw). Bro talks about Eo a bit too much though 💀 it got to the point where it got a bit funny, but some moments do hit... before virginia came into the picture as the better love interest since she's girlboss and eo is seraphine from league of legends.
Most of the characters are well written or awesome! The proctors are real loveably hateable pieces of shit I wanted 200 feet below the dirt, and I loved seeing them get beat up. Except you Fitchner, you are iconic, and you gave us Sevro. I love you. Antonia, Cassius & Jackal are just set up here, and it's mildly disappointing? I am super happy the finale ended up being "FUCK THE PROCTORS" but also that stole time away from finishing off the inter-student conflicts. Yeah those will 100% be explored in the rest of the books with more time to do so, but damn :/ the last time we see Antonia, I think she just stands there at a castle to remind us she exists??? Whatever, watching the proctors get shit on was exactly what I needed to want to see more out of this series.
I was a bit disappointed when Darrow ended up being the only red we explore in this book. I was kind of disappointed when Darrow just speaks with a gold accent the entire time, I hope later in the series he speaks like a red again because I have a red bias and hate fancy ass shit. From a book called "red rising", there aren't too many reds after part 2 which I found odd for a revolution story about a red taking control over the system. Titus? Ohoh! FUCK HIM! why did they write him to be this rapist guy, and he just exists to let darrow know he isn't the only fake gold at the institute. I was mildly hoping we would get to see another red-turned-gold team up with darrow as a 100% trustworthy ally since I felt like we needed it after all the loneliness Darrow goes through, but sadly no :(
OH AND THE ACTION SCENES HELL YEAH!!! Reddit wasn't kidding when they talked about how bloodydamn GOOD the fight scenes are. I got spoiled that "Clang! Clang! Clang! Confess!" means something, and I don't even know who is fighting who, but I want to read the whole series just to get to that point because it sounds badass.
But uhhh this series came to me at a rough point in my life. It was hard to read some parts of it and I took a few breaks. Yeah, I read the whole thing in 2 weeks, but also just to fill myself with some sort of closure when I felt sad. I felt good coming out of it, but during? UHHHHHH-
Tumblr media
These disorganized thoughts are getting messy, if you have any questions about specific things, comment them for me to answer. I might. 🥰
Story: 7/10, just set up but good set up
Characters: 9/10, bloodydamn good, almost all of them. I can tell, despite my initial disappointment for some of them since I know this is a book SERIES, so we will be seeing more of them soon.
Personal Enjoyment: ????/10, felt too sad at some points, absolutely adored this book in others.
Quality: 9/10, amazing writing, I want to buy all the books JUST to support Pierce Brown, I'm not even sure if I will be reading them, I just feel like throwing money at him.
Overall Score: 8/10, scared to continue, but damn I want to continue.

“It Happened One Night” is a classic romantic comedy film that was released in 1934. Directed by Frank Capra and starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, the film tells the story of a wealthy socialite who runs away from her controlling father and falls in love with a roguish reporter along the way.
The film begins with Ellie Andrews (Colbert), a spoiled heiress who is fed up with her father’s attempts to control her life. She decides to run away and marry her lover, but her father is determined to bring her back home. As she tries to travel to New York City, Ellie meets Peter Warne (Gable), a charming but cynical reporter who sees her as a potential headline story.
Peter offers to help Ellie avoid detection in exchange for an exclusive story about her adventures. Reluctantly, Ellie agrees and the two set off on a series of misadventures. Along the way, they meet various characters and obstacles that test their growing bond.
As they spend more time together, Ellie begins to fall for Peter’s rough charm and wit, while Peter finds himself drawn to Ellie’s vulnerability and genuine spirit. Despite their first animosity, the two characters begin to realize that they are more alike than they thought.
One of the most iconic scenes in the film is the hitchhiking scene, where Ellie and Peter struggle to hitch a ride in the rain. As they stand by the side of the road, Ellie’s stubbornness and Peter’s quick thinking create a humorous and endearing moment that highlights their growing connection.
Throughout the film, Ellie and Peter face a series of challenges that test their relationship. From escaping her father’s private detectives to dealing with Peter’s ex-girlfriend, the two must navigate a minefield of obstacles before they can truly be together.
The film’s climax comes when Ellie’s father finally catches up to them at a motel. Convinced that Peter is only after her money, Ellie’s father tries to force her to come back home. However, Ellie stands up to him and declares her love for Peter, proving that she is willing to make her own choices and follow her heart.
In the end, Ellie and Peter realize that they are meant to be together and decide to get married. The film concludes with a romantic moment on a bus, where Ellie and Peter share a passionate kiss as they drive off into the sunset.
It Happened One Night was tremendous success both critically and commercially, winning five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor and Best Actress for Gable and Colbert respectively. The film is widely regarded as one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time and has inspired countless rom-coms since its release.

Welcome to the transformed city of Holbore, now known as Idgo Dol, where the Orcs have left an indelible mark on both its landscape and culture. This once-thriving city, now home to 40,000 Orcs and 11,000 Farfield thralls, bears the scars of conquest and is ruled by an iron fist.
City Transformation: Idgo Dol stands as a testament to Orcish dominance. The city's architecture has been reshaped into crude, imposing structures adorned with the symbols of the Orcish Warlord. The once-bustling marketplaces are now dominated by Orcish merchants, dealing in weapons, armor, and enslaved thralls.
Orcish Rule: The city is governed by the fearsome Orcish Warlord, Gronak Skullcrusher. Under his rule, Idgo Dol is a militarized fortress, with Orcish warriors patrolling the streets, ensuring order through intimidation and violence. Farfield thralls are subjected to harsh labor, toiling in mines, farms, and forges under brutal conditions.
Castle Holbore: Once the seat of Holbore's leadership, Castle Holbore has been renamed Castle Doomspire, serving as Gronak's stronghold and the epicenter of his rule. Its towers loom over the city, symbolizing the might of the Orcish Warlord.
Exports and Imports: Idgo Dol exports weapons, armor, and magical artifacts crafted by skilled Orcish blacksmiths. These goods are traded with neighboring Orcish strongholds and dark markets. The city imports rare materials, precious gems, and slaves for labor from distant realms.
Orcish Sights: In the central square, a grotesque statue of the Orcish god MOG stands as the focal point of Orcish devotion. MOG is depicted as a fierce warrior, his massive form covered in blood and wielding a massive axe. Orcs gather here to offer sacrifices, both thralls and captured enemies, as part of their annual ritual in honor of MOG.
Devotion to MOG: Gronak Skullcrusher is an unwavering devotee of MOG, leading the city with a singular focus on the god of war and blood. The annual ritual, known as the Bloodmoon Festival, involves gruesome sacrifices to appease MOG and gain his favor for the coming year. The city is filled with the sounds of drums and chants during this dark celebration, as thralls are offered to the Orcish god.
Holbore's Legacy: A somber structure known as the Holbore Memorial stands on the outskirts of the city, commemorating the fallen defenders of Holbore. The memorial serves as a reminder of the city's tragic past and the price paid for resisting Orcish conquest.
Idgo Dol stands as a dark reflection of its former self, a city reshaped by the brutal rule of Gronak Skullcrusher and the Orcish devotion to the god MOG. The once-thriving Holbore has become a place of fear, oppression, and annual ritual sacrifices in the name of Orcish supremacy.
Exterior of Castle Doomspire: Castle Doomspire, once known as Castle Holbore, stands as a menacing fortress at the heart of Idgo Dol. The exterior reflects the brutal aesthetic of Orcish architecture. Massive stone walls, stained with the marks of battle, surround the castle, rising to formidable heights. Crude spikes and dark banners bearing the emblem of the Orcish Warlord, Gronak Skullcrusher, adorn the battlements. The once-grand entrance has been replaced with a massive iron gate, adorned with the skulls of fallen enemies, a grim testament to the fortress's current occupants.
Towering turrets pierce the skyline, each topped with jagged peaks that evoke a sense of foreboding. The castle's exterior is devoid of the once-lush gardens and decorative elements, replaced by functional structures dedicated to the military and administrative functions of Orcish rule. The overall impression is one of militaristic dominance, a fortress that exudes an air of oppression over the city.
Interior of Castle Doomspire: The interior of Castle Doomspire is a stark contrast to its former grandeur. The once-elegant halls and chambers have been transformed to suit the brutal needs of Orcish rulership. Dark stone corridors echo with the sounds of heavy footsteps and the clanking of armor as Orcish guards patrol the halls.
The throne room, once a place of diplomacy and governance, is now a cavernous chamber dominated by a massive, crude throne. Gronak Skullcrusher sits upon it, surrounded by the symbols of his power and conquests. The walls are adorned with trophies – weapons, banners, and grisly reminders of battles won.
The castle's dungeons, previously used for the imprisonment of criminals, now house thralls and prisoners of war. The air is heavy with the stench of sweat and despair as captives toil under the watchful eyes of Orcish overseers.
The chambers that were once reserved for the city's rulers have been repurposed as war rooms and planning chambers. Maps of the surrounding territories cover tables, displaying the Orcish ambition to expand their influence.
While Castle Doomspire's interior may lack the refinement and elegance it once possessed, it radiates an undeniable aura of power. The atmosphere within is one of cold, calculated authority, a reflection of the Orcish rule that now governs Idgo Dol from this formidable stronghold.

'The massive success and popularity of Oppenheimer have created a storm of hilarious memes on social media. The Christopher Nolan movie runs a total of three hours, giving the internet a lot of source material to work with in creating dozens of funny memes. Much of the internet's infatuation with Oppenheimer comes after the cultural phenomenon of "Barbenheimer", which combined two of the biggest movie so the year into one double theater package in theaters nationwide. In many regards, Oppenheimer owes much of its trending status to Great Gerwig's Barbie, which is inching toward the title of the highest-grossing film of 2023.
Oppenheimer currently stands as the fifth highest-grossing movie of 2023 and will likely become the fourth after surpassing Fast X at the global box office. Oppenheimer is already an early favorite for the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 2024 Oscars, which are scheduled to take place in March of next year. Christopher Nolan has yet to win a Best Picture or Best Director Academy Award, but the cultural significance of Oppenheimer combined with the sheer force of the storytelling in the film puts the celebrated filmmaker in a unique position to come away with a well-deserved honor. In the meantime, here are the best Oppenheimer internet memes.
12. Oppenheimer Smiling
The "Oppenheimer smiling" meme is one of the most popular ones circulating the internet with a photoshopped smile on the protagonist's face. One thing that Oppenheimer hardly does throughout the film is smile due to the grave nature of his assignment. Here Oppenheimer actually appears happy which is uncanny to see, especially attached to text such as "Oppenheimer if he had invented something fun" such as yo-yos or Starburst. It's a hilarious take on the tormented figure but also a point of the guilt he might have avoided had he not created the atomic bomb.
11. Oppenheimer Getting Yelled At
Oppenheimer's extreme anxiety and inner turmoil in depicted in these scenes that replicate the light he witnessed from the Trinity Project atomic testing. His life was essentially blowing up during the scene depicted in the meme. The internet took the concept and applied it to their everyday instances of extreme fear and anxiety such as "This is how it felt doing math homework with your dad" and other hilarious and relatable examples of getting yelled at.
10. Are You Sexually Active?
This incredibly awkward meme takes the humiliating moment from the film and replicates it in another everyday setting that everyone can relate to. Oppenheimer is mortified to share the details of his sexual affair with Jean Tatlock at the security hearing in front of his wife. His face reads the exact reluctant humiliation of a teenager being at the doctor's office with their mom in the room and the doctor asking about sexual activity.
9. IMAX 70mm Front & Center Seat
Another iconic Oppenheimer meme features a screenshot of someone who bought the middle seat of the front row at one of the thirty 70mm IMAX screenings of Oppenheimer in theaters. The creator of the meme points out the absurdity of buying the ticket because of how close it is to the screen and how strange their neck would be trying to capture the entire image of the eight-story tall screen. The meme also jokes about how the onscreen nuclear explosion could give off radiation for being that close.
8. Oppenheimer Stretched Faces
The other hilarious part of sitting that close to the screen at the 70mm IMAX showing is how the faces appeared distorted and stretched from that angle. Being that close to the screen was basically like being at the foot of a small building, which made the perspective of Oppenheimer's face stretched out and hilarious looking. Oppenheimer appears to have a much thicker and wider jaw from that angle than he is meant to, drawing comparisons to Thanos from the Avengers movies.
7. Einstein & Oppenheimer Talking
Another popular Oppenheimer meme features a girl whispering to her friend, saying "I bet they are talking about us." The meme jokes that the two are actually talking about something else entirely. The scene that the meme was inspired by was pivotal in the movie in the downfall of Lewis Strauss who betrayed Oppenheimer and exacted his revenge against him because he presumed that he had badmouthed him to Einstein.
6. Best Supporting Actor Contenders
This meme highlights the very real possibility that the 2024 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor could come down between these two performances. While it would be inspiring for either Robert Downey Jr. or Ryan Gosling to win the coveted award, the meme points out the hilarity in the contrast between the two characters. One is an incredibly serious role while the other is obviously meant to be eccentric and goofy.
5. Having A Job/Not Having A Job
This meme takes Oppenheimer's final stare at the end of the movie and places it in another real-world context. The meme jokes about the inevitability of being unhappy regardless of the situation of having a job or not having a job, something most people will relate to. Oppenheimer may have been unhappy regardless of whether he created the atomic bomb or not due to his nature and dissatisfaction in other areas of his life.
4. Disappointed Cillian Murphy
The disappointed Cillian Murphy meme is one of the most hilarious ones to come out of the Oppenheimer hype, especially in a clip where he claims he has never heard of it before. Cillian often looks displeased or annoyed while being interviewed, which is where the origin of the meme comes from. When asked about it, Cillian had no idea what it was and actually claimed to not even know what a meme was in the first place.
3. Now I Am Become A Barbie Girl
The overlap of Barbie and Oppenheimer will always link the two in cinematic history. This crossover meme of the two celebrated films might be one of the funniest on the internet. Oppenheimer's famous real quote from the religious text Bhagavad Gita "Now I have become Death, destroyer of worlds" is given a Barbie makeover based on the classic hit song "Barbie World." It's a hilarious mashup and remix of the memorable line which is one of Oppenheimer's best quotes.
2. Josh Peck & Miranda Cosgrove
One of the most inventive memes out of Oppenheimer goes back to Josh Peck's appearance on Drake & Josh. After Peck's character presses the button for the Trinity test, the meme creator imagines what they nearly expected to happen afterward with this moment from Drake & Josh. Peck looks out of the tree house and discovered his pestering sister Megan unplugged something down below, making for a hilarious callback to the show that Peck became famous for.
1. Number Of Stars In The Flag Is Wrong
Many internet critics went wild over the apparent inaccuracy in the number of stars in the American flags used in Oppenheimer's victory speech scene. Several memes surfaced to poke fun at the outrage, pointing to other minor inaccuracies in the mostly authentic movie that can be easily overlooked in the context of how impressive the film is otherwise. The meme calls out the unnecessary internet critics of Oppenheimer.'

So I'm graduating an art academy in 4 days...
I'm defending my master's thesis on Tuesday, 11 am. It's been five years since I started this college (technically it's an academy, not university, not art school, it's an art academy), and thought I'd share my thoughts on my time there in a sort of written blog-ish format. I had written blogs as a teenager and younger adult, there were three, and the last one is still there for people to read. (It's mintwmb.blogspot.com, it's in Polish + I was still younger, slightly more cringe and much less bitter when I was writing there. Still love that blog tho.)
Tumblr media
I started uni (I'm gonna call it that, it's easier) in 2019 in October. In Poland, academic year has two semesters - a winter one which runs from October to January/February and a summer one, from February to June. I started as a graphic design student, but graphic design was only available as an extramural studies course, which I was ok with... until I learned that it wasn't free, which in a standard in Poland. It was 600PLN/150USD per semester, so 1200PLN/300USD per year. Not really that bad, but still I wasn't having any of it. It was too late to move to general graphics, which is free, so I payed for a year and moved for year 2.
The design course was awful for me, I hated it. We mainly learned how to use Adobe programs, basics of typography, basics of graphic design history etc. There was almost no drawing or painting - duh it's a DESIGN course, but it wasn't that obvious for 19 yo. me. Also I didn't really like the people there, but I think it was also a me problem, not a strictly them problem. I was incredibly depressed during year one, but it's not like they were saints. I knew that they talked shit about me behing my back when I wasn't in the room, but that wasn't really a problem for me? I've been goth for 11 years ffs, I'm used to that! Also I didn't value them as people and I still don't. It's not like we could really get along. I had one friend, her name was Hanna, she liked a lot of stuff that I did. She became friends with the other girls from our year at the end of the summer semester, which I saw as betrayal, but I don't think it's the case now. I wasn't exactly likeable during year one.
The lecturers were weird. One lady, who we'll simply call A., was a nightmare. She glamorised being overworked to an extreme deegree, she even asked people from my group to tell her the time they were going to sleep. She was only impressed with people who had unhealthy sleep schedules because of work and treated it like competition.
I moved to general graphics for year 2. The course includes printmaking (like eatching, linocut etc.) and graphic design. Why put these two together you might ask? Well, in Polish they're both called "grafika". That's the reason. A castle and a zipper are both called "zamek" and nobody confuses these two, so why put such different things into one course? We'll never know.

To this day I think I chose my uni course (both of them really) poorly. As a 24yo woman I'd choose something like ethnology, history or cultural studies on Wrocław University, but at that time, a dumbass, late teen version of me thought that a fondness for drawing is enough to go through a Fine Arts Academy without major mental health consequences. It's really not. You need a real appreciation for modern high art (no, not furry fanart), some understanding of it, and most importatnt, a need to create it. I have a need to draw whatever I like at that point, be it a historical era, classic gothic horror icons or even some anime fanart, but no need for fine, modern art. But also, ngl, I feel like painting something pretentious after I learned about it...
Tumblr media
Anyways, years 2-4! I moved to general graphics. I was on the same course as my boyfriend. I had a bit of catching up to do... or I could have, but COVID happened. I was so happy when it did, I could finally isolate myself from these people without consequences. I already hated this uni and considered to drop out, but I actually really enjoyed online classes and lectures.
But. I had one particular subject that I hated with burning passion - creative drawing. In this academy you choose two main workshops alongside other classes like photography, typography etc. Workshops are divided into prntmaking workshops and design workshops. At that time we were choosing multiple design workshops but only one printmaking - mine was creative drawing, which is basically a very pretentious mix of modern art, drawing, painting and prontmaking. I was really shit at that ngl. But I wasn't alone there.
There was another girl who moved from graphic design to general graphics and ended up in creative drawing - my to this day bestie Pamela. We are polar opposities, she wears 99% pink and is a dancer, I'm a goth and currently a museum lecturer. At that time neither of us had a job, but I was interested in history and she liked K-pop.
I chose to change my printmaking workshop for Intaglio (mixed media but in the printmaking realm, the professor is a great artist and besides being VERY demanding, a nice man).

An acid etching print that I made in 2022, the plate measures around 100x60cm I believe.
I made a very bad decision called "artbook design workshop" during year 3. The lady leading the workshop was A., with all of her overworking yourself to death bullshit. Our assignment for the semester was making a pocket calendar inspired by the Academy (so they can sell it and never give us a penny). I made one inspired by the Academy's iconic neon sign, known widely in the city. I was getting standard critique sessions every week and showed the so overworked A. and her two assistants, K. and M. my progress. It was all online, so I shared my screen with Adobe Illustrator every time. People who do graphic design will probably be suprised - Illustrator is for designing vectori shapes, like logos. InDesign is for books, you can't make a book in Illustrator. Well, it was my first time making a book and I didn't know. When they realised what I was using, AFTER AT LEAST TWO MONTS OF SHOWING MY SCREEN WITH ILLUSTRATOR OPENED, they lost their shit. And it was all my fault. For not knowing. I re-made it in InDesign but it did cost me a lot of stress and I hold a massive grudge to this day.
Tumblr media
The neon calendar made it to an exhibition called Bookmakers 2022, but at what cost.
During year 4 I got into a final leg of an art competition, which required me travelling to Northeast Poland aka Podlasie. The place was nice, but the organisation of the final exhibition was hell and again, made me incredibly stressed out. Also the organisers were almost allergic to listening waht others have to say.

Year 5, doing my master's.
The genral graphics course doesn't give you a bachelor's, it gives you a master's. Extramural graphic design is divided into bachelor's course first and then master's, but for genral, you just make master's. Actually, two of them, in design and printmaking, so I'm gonna be a double MFA in four days. BUT AT WHAT COST. During year 5 it was normal for me to work 15-16 hours per day with one meal break + tiny bathroom / making tea breaks. Also I started my museum job, so sometimes my workday lasted about 20 hours at worst. For a year. When I wasn't doing my museum lectures, I made prints and worked in Illustrator and InDesign. The stress was insane with all of that + paperwork, I have many physical health problems to deal with because of it too. But it's over now! Almost. I spent $400 on printing my design diploma and $70 on chocolate for my promoters (it's a thing you don't technically have to do, but practically, you have to. My bf was the only person who didn't give chocolates to the promoters and he's the only one who got a lower diploma grade <3 Still a 5 - we have a scale from 2 aka failed, to 5,5 aka best grade - but everyone who had gifts got a 5,5). I hope my defense will go well.
Tumblr media
My last uni photo, made in the Academy's garden. Had to fill in my thinning-from-massive-stress hairdo in an app, so that's fun :))))
So yeah, that's my uni. I'm so happy to graduate and just work in the museum <3
