we truly don't appreciate how good scarlet was when it came to names. pyrite being named after something that's known as fool's gold? ingenious. just the name peril? very badass. vermilion being a shade of red like scarlet? ruby also being a shade of red?? ruby also being a gemstone, which is what tourmaline is??? literally so iconic.

((Spoilers for Wings of Fire Book 8: Escaping Peril))  A friend convinced me to read Wings of Fire last month, and once I got through the early book awkwardness I ended up instantly hooked. I proceeded to finish the entire series over the course of February and started filling my sketchbook with dragons. This is the first (but probably not the last) fruit of those labors. Peril's interactions with her nephew were incredibly sweet so I ended up just drawing a playdate!! A totally safe one. With NO FIRE. Definitely not a burned toy. Cliff's mom would NEVER allow that. I keep on finding new media to be obsessed with and I'm going to keep drawing art for it xD Apologies in advance

The imprisoned Ex-Queen Scarlet

I feel very weird about Ruby. And I don't know why. She does pretty much everything right?? But I just... don't like her...? Well, no, I think she's okay... but... I don't know, my feelings are so mixed and weird 😭

The one thing about her I can pinpoint is when she banished Peril from the Kingdom of Sky and would lash out against her. Which, to be fair, all of those years of watching Peril burn dragons to death and Scarlet's manipulation probably had something to do with that (not saying that Ruby's feelings are justified, but they are certainly understandable). But Peril becomes better? And Ruby eventually apologizes to Peril? And takes back the ban in everything? So she's obviously capable of recognizing mistakes and improving. But... there's STILL just SOMETHING about her that throws me off. The vibes are weird.

Also, I think she would own Rae Dunn-esque pottery. (You know, those jars with the really REALLY thin fonts that people go crazy for.)

Does anyone ever think about the idea that Ruby isn't tourmaline's only form? That if things were different every single daughter Scarlett had was just a different skin of tourmaline to keep her from challenging her?

Yeah canon explicitly said this isn't what happened, but I cannot help but think of an alternative universe
