Rem having been a mechanic who found Vash and Nai as unique AI spawned from Tesla and the dependent Plant based VIs. Knives getting Rem killed and Vash put out of commission by going rogue and trying to infect/control the VIs. Vash pspsps'ing Wolfwood into being his pilot and then absolutely menacing him because he's funny when he's flustered. The general eroticism of pilot and unshackled AI working in perfect sync. 🙏

When you and Vash had realized you were pregnant, neither of you really knew what to expect. With him being a plant and you being a human, he hadn't even realized pregnancy was a possibility. As soon as he found out, his mind swarmed with possibilities of all the ways it could go wrong. The pregnancy itself was normal however, and so was the baby after it was born. A healthy baby girl with no complications during the birth so the two of you assumed that the plant gene wasn't one that could be inherited by humans and that your daughter was just like you. You had no reason to believe otherwise.

The two of you decided to attempt to keep your relationship with Vash a secret so that you could avoid any complications that would arise from being in a relationship with the Humanoid Typhoon. It wasn't easy, but it was for the safety of both you and your child. You were able to keep it concealed until your daughter's first birthday, when Zazie caught wind of the existence of the baby Saverem and decided to attempt to surprise Knives with his niece.

When Zazie brought the baby to Knives, his face contorted into a look of disgust and uncertainty, asking them if this was some kind of joke. Zazie explained that this was his brother's child, causing Knives to become intrigued. He refused to touch the girl, though, and had Zazie follow him so that they could bring the baby to Conrad for testing.

The moment you and Vash realized that the baby had been taken in the night, you were both freaking out. You called Meryl, Wolfwood, even Roberto to see if they had any idea where your daughter was, but no luck. You were panicking, running around the area near your small house, trying to find her somewhere, anywhere. But it seemed she was gone. There weren't even any footprints in the sand to give you an idea where she could be.

Knives wasn't fairing much better. Ever since he had taken some blood from the baby, she hadn't stopped screaming. The ear-splitting noise was getting on his nerves, but he tried to remain calm and possibly even soothe the baby as he stared at her with uncertainty and slight disdain, before slowly placing his hand on her head, covering a part of her face. Her cries went quiet for a moment and, for a split second, Knives had thought that the noise was over. Then, the giggling and babbling started. His niece reached up and took his hand in her tiny ones, playing with and pulling on his fingers, causing him to pull away with a look of frustration on his face.

Any vocal discipline he tried to apply towards the child was met with laughter and baby talk. After a while, he gave up and settled for simply watching the child, until she started to reach for some nearby needles which caused him to quickly grab her arm to stop her.

Of course, this attempt to ensure her safety was met with more crying as she continued trying to reach for the needles as if they were a piece of candy she desperately wanted. When he realized how badly the child wanted them, he begrudgingly picked her up and placed her on the ground, moving to put away the extra needles. While his back was turned, though, the infant started to crawl out of the room. By the time he had finished putting away the dangerous items, the young girl was gone from his sight. He panicked and searched the room for a moment before cursing and walking out of the area, seeing the child crawling towards a rail-less stairway.

Knives scrambled over and scooped up the child, causing the screaming to resume. It was like this baby had a death wish. It continued like that all day. Every time Knives so much as glanced away for a second, his brother's child managed to find something dangerous to play with. It was becoming a serious chore and he wasn't sure how his brother of all people managed to deal with this kind of bullshit.

Eventually, after he got the results he was waiting for, he handed the baby back to Zazie and told them to take "it" back to where they had found it, tucking a note into the baby's hands before Zazie took off with it.

You and Vash had been searching town all day looking for your child and, after turning up empty handed, the two of you somberly made your way back to your home. The walk home included a one-sided conversation in which Vash attempted to comfort you, insisting that it wouldn't be long before you found her and that you just had to hold out for a bit longer.

Turns out he was correct as, when you arrived back at your house, your baby was nestled sleeping in her crib as she chewed on a piece of paper.

After checking the baby for any injuries (you only found one, which was bandaged neatly), you took the piece of paper and unfolded it.

"Brother,

Your child is as much of a nuisance as you are. I believe it was attempting to make my life hell so that I would return it to you, so here it is.

You should better teach your child what is and isn't a toy.

Especially if it's going to be a part of the new Plant-Human hybrid species.

an analysis of wolfwood’s characterization in trigun stampede as well as his connection to vash (+ why i believe he’s likely much older than we think)

okay i’ve been thinking abt this since eps 10 or 11 were released (this show became my special interest the second it dropped if i'm being completely honest) but its been scratching at my brain ever since i read the sakuracon radio interview and since i haven’t seen anyone talking abt this yet i figured i may as well because it’s clear they really did pull very extensively from the manga and i really am loving how they adapted his character. also i occasionally keep seeing the “tristamp wolfwood is a kid/is 14-15” takes which i need to at least try to help put to rest bc they make no sense given his other iterations and would actively make the story worse.

a quick tldr of my main points before i get on my very long winded soapbox:

wolfwood in trigun stampede has been used as an undying, unkillable soldier by the eye of michael for decades.

rollo as a character, as opposed to monev the gale, was designed specifically as a metaphor for wolfwood’s backstory.

wolfwood and vash are written to be literal complements to one another.

I literally don’t think I have the space to talk abt all my thoughts, and ofc these are all my personal thoughts so any and all of what i’m saying could be wrong, but direct analysis of eps 4-7 (as I think they’re the most important) and discussion of his trajectory in general under the cut (obvious spoilers for the show but also the manga as well as tw: discussions of suicide/suicidal ideation as well as the general tw list for the show's graphic content):

Starting first with a side point that Wolfwood was never a child at any point he was with Vash during thecourse of the story, including the manga. He has always been a man in his 20s, with trimax ww having the appearance of being in his 30s or 40s. It is absolutely crucial to his and Vash’s characterizations, as well as their entire dynamic together, that Wolfwood is an adult. Could make an entire separate post about this, but I feel like starting here is important.

Onto the sakuracon japan radio interview. The team gave a LOT of interesting insight into the development of the show, but one specific point stood out to me:

This is important, because I definitely missed it during the show’s initial run, but I think it’s REALLY obvious once you know what you’re looking for, and is a big factor in why I think he’s likely older than we realized.

EP 4: These are the very first lines that are said about him in the show, and the very first time we see him, he is absolutely exhausted:

We know that at this point, Wolfwood is likely on his way to Jeneora Rock to meet up with Vash to fulfill his contract...until Vash and co. quite literally slam into him (and his life) unexpectedly, nearly killing him with their van. He probably should’ve died except… he’s on his feet almost instantly, able to walk perfectly fine and being a jackass as though he didn’t get launched halfway across the desert by a moving vehicle. Which is… odd, naturally.

When they try to find help and instead find the dead couple, he specifically mentions that he isn't a priest like he's been in other iterations. He's now an undertaker, someone meant to guide others through their deaths:

His personality is hard to tap down. He's goofy and childish and downright unlikeable, and there's a hint of something lurking deeper, something menacing and potentially dangerous. So much so that Roberto is on edge the entire time their group is together after being swallowed by the Grand Worm, and flat out tells Vash that Wolfwood is untrustworthy and likely an assassin, "a man who can kill with a smile on his face". And Vash’s response is… really fucking weird, given how long the two have known each other:

not to mention he's wearing sunglasses Wolfwood is rightfully very ??? in response because, what the fuck is he talking about, and why is he so genuine about it, they just met???

Fast forward to a bit later, when Wolfwood is like "hey man, you really shouldn't be so trusting. I could've shot you in the back several times now." To which Vash is like "but you didn't, though." And Wolfwood is even more confused because is this guy stupid???

And then it's time for the final act: Wolfwood reveals his Punisher, destroying the Grand Worm while giving the illusion of taking out Zazie as well. Meryl was informed by someone that Wolfwood had been the one to save them all, but when she tries to thank him, he immediately shifts the subject, being annoying and arguably completely unlikeable. Roberto points out that Wolfwood had lied about who he was, trying to get Vash to realize that he still can't be trusted, and again Vash shoots it down: "We're alive because of him."

Wolfwood showed his role as the Punisher without hesitation, and not only was Vash not really phased by it, but he actually seemed to be inspired by him, stopping his self-destructive tendencies and even repeating his own words back to him. And that's the moment we finally learn his name in the show:

But then, almost immediately, we have a complete reversal of his scene with Vash in the Worm. It’s also of note that Zazie always specifically says human lives:

EP 5: One of the most important episodes in this discussion, and it starts with the name alone, "Child of Blessing". Here’s a very general summary:

A young boy in a much less than ideal living situation is chosen to be 'a blessing upon the world through his sacrifice', which turns out to secretly be mutilative experimentation on children in search of a subject compatible with a mysterious medicine that can heal any injury. The meds warp him, morph him into something that doesn't even appear to be human. He tries to return home, but his mother, the only family he knows and loves, is terrified of him. She calls him a monster, and the boy finds himself struggling to articulate who he is. Then, he wanders alone alone without purpose in that unchanging altered body, a body that can withstand lethal amounts of damage directly because of the meds, for at least 20 years. All he has is a single name: Vash the Stampede, the person who promised to save him, and the one person who managed to bring back his consciousness in the end, if only for a moment.

The moment Nicholas sees Rollo regenerate is the second the switch flips. He instantly demands to know what the fuck is up with him, and when Vash responds telling him that he was too late to give him the medicine he needed, Wolfwood shuts down, because he recognizes himself. From this moment until the rest of the episode, we are no longer seeing Nicholas D. Wolfwood; we're seeing Nicholas the Punisher.

Vash continues to push Rollo to remember who he is, while Nicholas continuously says that there's no way to save him, that he's already a monster now. In the final moments, Nicholas inevitably feels tasked with Rollo's death like the undertaker he is, and when Vash angrily demands to know why he took the shot, his response is:

When discussing Rollo's killer, Elendira refers to Nicholas by name, but Conrad specifically states that no, he is the Punisher.

In vol 10 of the manga, Vash thinks to himself: “I met a strange man. Just as I thought we had come to an understanding, I found that our core beliefs were opposed to each other. I was used to such situations, but I wonder how he felt.”

EP 6: This episode builds directly upon the foundations set by the episode prior. Child of Blessing ended with Rollo being referred to repeatedly as a monster, and this episode begins with Nicholas in the middle of completing a kill. Right before he does, his victim gets one final glance at his assailant, an inhuman looking executioner, and calls him a monster… directly because he will not die. He’s also been shown knocking back meds like tequila shots in tristamp, which we all know was NOT possible in the manga. During the flashback scene, Nicholas is literally called the Child of Blessing.

We see a very similar sequence with Nicholas that we saw with Rollo; the horrific torture, the bodily mutilation (during which Conrad specifically mentions that the drug will heal all damage done the body, as well as rebuild and strengthen the cells), and the attempt to return home:

Something different happens with Nicholas, though. Nicholas can't go home; he’s literally yanked away from his chance at freedom by Legato. Nicholas can’t go home, likely ever again in his mind, because Hopeland Orphanage and the Eye of Michael represent two fundamentally different ideals.

Hopeland (and thus Livio) is exactly like its name for Nicholas: it is is land of hope, the only place in the world where Wolfwood was allowed to exist freely. When Nicholas was taken by EoM, Wolfwood began to die.

The entirety of the EoM is shrouded in imagery of death and rebirth, specifically in regards to humanity. Humanity in this case has a dual meaning: humanity as a species, and humanity as a concept. Their philosophy is that the end justifies the means in that humans in this form will be preserved and would likely live exceedingly longer lives but, as repeatedly mentioned, there are side effects.

Aging and death are integral parts of the human experience, the two aspects of life that we ALL experience regardless of circumstance. Can you be human without humanity?

The message behind these two episodes is to show that the process of becoming part of the EoM is a metaphorical crucifixion symbolizing the death of one’s humanity. And Nicholas is interesting, because he’s almost the perfect specimen in their eyes and is treated as such. Almost. The only thing holding him back are the two strands of humanity he has left, both which are nearly destroyed in the very next episode.

EP 7: In the previous episode, during the animated flashback of Nicholas and Livio, we see a few scattered scenes of other people living at the orphanage. Interestingly, while almost all of the children are seen with very sparse detail (or even none really at all), there is one person, the caretaker, whose face we get a pretty clear picture of. At the very beginning of this episode, we have the first and only shot of the inside of the orphanage in the usual style. While none of the children are familiar and actually aren’t incredibly distinguishable from one another, there is one figure in the room with recognizable hair, but looks considerably older than in the flashback:

During the majority of their interactions, you don’t see Nicholas and Livio interacting with any of the other children. They are simply a background, a set piece to the story and a representation of just how other they were forced to become.

This episode features them fighting each other, dealing each other what should be mortal wounds, but somehow remain standing, as though they’re perfectly fine. As if on cue, the soldiers stationed call them both monsters and run away in fear.

But Vash doesn’t run from the danger. He runs towards it.

Nicholas tries to stop him, and all he gets in return is “he’s important to you, isn’t he?” as though that’s enough. But it is enough for Vash. And Nicholas doesn’t know what to do with that.

Nicholas comes dangerously close to giving up, to giving into his role as the Punisher and killing the last bit of Wolfwood to do so, but it’s Vash who stops him. He diverts his shot and, instead of hurting Livio, literally frees Nicholas from Legato and Zazie’s trap. Vash tells him to make him remember, and Nicholas thinks it’s bullshit… until he doesn’t.

And when he finally relents, when he tries to emulate what the silly blonde idiot keeps screaming at him about… It works. For a moment, but Livio does wake up for a moment. Nicholas hadn’t been able to see Rollo, but he did see this. And he really doesn’t know what to do about it.

To drive the point home, Livio drives a bullet into his own head and falls to the ground in a scene very reminiscent of Rollo’s death… but is implied to still be alive. With him saved, now it’s time for Hopeland. And this is when the narrative really turns a focus to the balance between Nicholas and Vash.

The group is half convinced that they’re about to die snd that the town will be destroyed when, all of a sudden, it’s Nicholas who’s yelling that they have to do something. Because despite all the noise Nicholas makes about self-sacrifice and calling Vash a weirdo, he’s directly inspired by his energy, which is proven correct when Vash is the first one to side with him.

Then, somehow despite the odds, the two of them manage to work together to stop the ion cannon. Which should have been impossible. And because of this, Nicholas is finally willing to give Vash the chance to take the lead on things.

When Vash and Wolfwood discuss their plan to save Hopeland, and after they argue about which method is the correct one, the conversation they have is probably the clearest depiction of Nicholas’ inner struggle:

Nicholas: Have it your way. Just for today. I do owe you one… but if the orphanage doesn’t survive this, I’ll hurt you so bad you’ll wish you were dead before I kill you.

Vash: Wolfwood…

Nicholas: Shut up! I’m the Punisher! I’m not like you… I’m Nicholas the Punisher…

He murmurs the last line as though he’s trying to convince himself. He uses his persona as the Punisher almost like a mask, like a cat puffing up and hissing to deter predators. It’s a defense mechanism, and a trauma response. Except.. it still doesn’t work, because the entire time Vash is simply not listening. Regardless of what Nicholas says, Vash does not stop fighting Nicholas on the title that was forced on him by the EoM and, in fact, blatantly rejects it. And the moment Nicholas finishes speaking, when he declares himself to be the Punisher, the episode’s title card finally appears: Wolfwood.

Nicholas and Vash’s roles as each other’s complements is emphasized very deliberately when the two work to stop the sand steamer from smashing into Hopeland. These screenshots occur one directly after the other:

Another detail the team mentioned often during the interview was attention to use of color. In color theory, blue and orange are complementary colors: hues that are opposite each other on the color wheel but, when used together, come together to create harmony and balance. Additionally, Vash is the character typically associated with warm hues, while Nicholas is paired with colder ones; with the colors flipped, it’s almost as if they are literally mirror images of each other.

The two are in the same position, in the middle of similar actions, both drawing strength from that which makes them “other” in order to work together to protect a common goal. And once again, miraculously, they succeed, able to do together what neither could ever have done together.

This mirror motif is even clearer when comparing these respective scenes from each of their respective backstory episodes:

For Nicholas and Vash, on top of sharing such a crucial common thread in their backstories, often in the show they are seen together, either side by side or back to back. Often they’re shown doing the same thing at the same time, almost as though they’re moving as one. And they consistently save each other over and over again, with Nicholas acting to save Vash physically, and Vash working to protect Nicholas’ psyche. Vash refuses to let anyone continue to see themselves as a monster, as lesser than, in much the same way Nicholas refuses to let anyone else be used as one.

They are a pair, a unit working together to create a force that is stronger than the sum of its parts.

They are both “other”, they are both different, and they both seek to protect the things they love and care about despite the excruciating pain it can put them through.

Nicholas and Vash’s entite dynamic is basically “I don’t understand you, but I recognize you. I recognize myself in you. And somehow, that’s enough for me to trust you.”

So with all this in mind, here is how I’ve come to understand Nicholas’ arc throughout tristamp:

When we first meet Nicholas D. Wolfwood we meet a weary man longing for death to save him, longing to be free from the purposelessness of his life but knowing the hope is futile. He works for the Eye of Michael as an assassin against his will and has for God knows how long. Not only is he no longer a priest, but he’s no longer religious at all, having no belief in God at all and a particular disdain for the false promises and hopes of salvation that are portrayed by it. He doesn’t care about the clothes he wears, whether he looks messy, whether it’s suited for the desert, because he literally doesn’t care about anything, really. He has no home, and can never go back to the orphanage— there’s likely no one left there that he knows anyway, and even of there were, they wouldn’t recognize the monster he’s become. Nicholas is tired, he’s angry, he’s potentially depressed. He fights impractically, sometimes leaving himself open to attacks he could probably block with his Punisher, but he just doesn’t care. He’s just here to do his job, which is to escort his piece of shit CEO’s assumedly equally piece of shit brother to him so they can destroy the world together and he can hopefully die off in peace.

Until he actually meets Vash, and he’s… really fucking weird. He’s dumb and naive and acts like he knows Nicholas on some deep level after they’ve just met, but… he’s not a bad guy. Just another crybaby who doesn’t understand the world. He can see the Punisher and not be frightened by it. That means something, means enough that he feels that he can introduce himself now. He still doesn’t know how to handle kindness, so he deflects whenever it’s shown to him, making irreverent jokes and being annoying in order push people away. But then he meets Rollo and has a flashback to himself. He learns that Vash is no stranger to false promises, has sold the same thing to the kid who ended up just like him, and yeah, Vash is no better than the EoM. He talks a big game but doesn’t actually know anything. Nicholas kills Rollo out of mercy because it’s what he wishes could be done to him; every day of living his life is torture.

But then his hometown and childhood best friend are suddenly in danger. He’d completely forgotten what it felt like to have something to lose, to protect. And without planning for it, Vash also becomes something to protect, because even if he doesn’t act like it, Nicholas desperately wants to believe in him. He doesn’t want the EoM to be right. But the feeling of having something to protect is terrifying, because it means you have something to lose. Nicholas gets incredibly stressed out by this, because it’s been so long that he doesn’t even remember what it feels like. But it’s enough to get him, for likely the first time in a very long time, to hope. And it’s Vash who helps him so that he’s able to hang on to that hope for a little while longer.

He still can’t get too excited, because he hasn’t actually finished his job yet. Before he does, though, he sees Vash’s scars (which was a deliberate choice, as in both the manga AND the og anime this scene went to the girls) and wow, if it weren’t for the regenerative properties of the drug, he would likely look the same. He drops Vash off with Knives and knows that Vash will likely be killed, but he’s also expecting to die himself in the fallout, so it doesn’t matter, really. Except for some reason, it does a bit. And then, yet again, Vash miraculously doesn’t die, and in fact changes the game and actually looks like he might stand a chance against Knives, and is clearly willing to die to do it.

And then July is destroyed. But, miraculously, Nicholas isn’t dead. He still finished the contract, but now… now what?

The show began with Nicholas at his lowest, and ends with Vash at his lowest point. And Nicholas owes him one.

INCREDIBLY long story short, it really is clear that they weren’t kidding, the team really drew SO MUCH inspiration from the themes trimax it’s unbelievable and I really really think we’re in for something incredible during the second phase. I also think it’s gonna hurt like a bitch.

He’s very sweet, and super cute

He seems a little nervous around you at first though. He keeps stuttering and messing up proper etiquette (which is adorable)

You warm up to him pretty fast

He’s nonviolent, but also somehow one of the best fighters anyone has ever seen???

He’s vowed not to kill anyone, but he’ll beat someone’s ass to keep you safe.

The first time he has to beat someone up is during an assassination attempt on your life. Some crazed man runs through your gardens wielding a knife- and You’ve never seen Vash move so fast before. The man is down in seconds, out cold. Vash just smiles at you. You basically fall for him there and then

You like to sneak sweets to him that are meant for you. You get yelled at for it, but the look on his face is worth it

Sometimes the two of you will sneak into the kitchens late at night and ransack the place to make each other little treats

He also likes to take you out for horse rides, and walks. He like show happy you seem when you get away from your home, and get a chance to just run around and be yourself

He hates watching you force yourself into the stuffy standards of being a noble. He knows it makes you unhappy

So he does everything in his power to make you smile

After the two of you get really close, he’ll start sneaking up to your room to hang out at night. Sometimes you’ll sneak out to find him, and the two of  you will go stargazing and talk

One of those nights you learn how he lost his arm, and the two of you fall asleep with your head on his chest

The next morning you have to rush home. Luckily your maids are cool and hide that you were ever gone

Falling in love with him is scary, because the two of you could be separated if anyone ever finds out

Somehow the both of you just know you are in love though

You don’t have to say anything. You just start holding hands when nobody is looking…and those late nights together get a bit more intimate 

The first time you kiss it’s in the kitchens. He’s trying to make some silly little recipe one of the cooks gave him, and he ends up getting flour all over his face. You start wiping it off and he just kisses you.

That’s when you know that this is the man you will love forever. 

Sadly, your family has other plans

Plans that Vash refuses to let happen. 

One night after finding out you are to be wed, he climbs up onto your balcony and starts asking you to pack whatever stuff you want

It turns out he has a few friends that are willing to help the two of you run away together

You garb the few things you want, and leave with your arms wrapped around him as the two of you ride off into the darkness

You get a cute little house in a random village

You finally are free

Wolfwood is a menace from the start

Your family decides to hire a personal guard to watch over you after there’s a few death threats sent their way

The decide to hire the most expensive, and experienced merc they can find

They have no idea that this merc HATES rich people

The moment you meet Wolfwood calls you things like “brat” or “prince/ss” in the most demeaning ways

He’s rude, and you’re pretty sure you hate him

But also he’s so hot-

I imagine he’s all rough, with callused hands and scars all over his hands and arms. 

He also flirts with you because he’s shameless

The first time he saves you is also the first time you see the kind side he likes to hide away 

You’re out on the town, doing a bit of shopping in the market when the two of you get separated somehow. 

While looking for him, you get cornered by two guys who do not have the best intentions with you

Right as they grab you to hall you off, Wolfwood appears.

He doesn’t even need a weapon. He takes both of the men out with his fists without breaking a sweat

After the men are knocked out, Wolfwood pulls you away and starts asking if you’re alright. When he sees the bruise on your wrist from how hard the man grabbed you  he tries to run back to the men muttering “i’ll kill em”

You stop him and tell him it’s okay, you just want to go home. He takes you home right away

That night you clean and dress the wounds on his knuckles and he falls in love with you

After that he still calls you names, but you can sense something other than hate behind his words. They become terms of endearment instead

He still hates all your friends, and family

Your first kiss is heated. You’re practicing piano, and he’s sitting next to you

You teach him how to play a few notes of a song, directing his fingers 

After he plays it successfully you kiss his cheek and he responds by slamming his lips against yours, forcing his tongue into your mouth

That piano is then used for…other things…

After that you two constantly sneak in kisses and ahem quickies whenever you can

He also notices that your family doesn’t really treat you well pretty fast

He sees the way they take away your meals when you’ve done something they think is bad

He gets progressively more angry until he finally snaps and just takes you away from that life

You leave in the middle of the day, and Wolfwood threatens to kill anyone that tries to come after you

You move into a cute little cottage where you can finally live your dream

Away from that horrible life, and happy with Wolfwood

Since Wolfwood joined your group, you instantly felt something for him, but due to your more timid and reserved nature you've found yourself in a loss for words when you've happened to be around him, especially with no one else beside you. So you've usually tried to just calm yourself and make sure you're breathing evenly and don't stare too much at him. Talking to him was not an option. Except of wishing each other good mornings and good nights and occasionaly laughing at his jokes or his bullying of Meryl or Vash you've barely converesed at all.

So now, when "thanks" to Vash, who giddily made his way towards a random pretty girl at a bar, you've been left alone, sitting next to Wolfwood at a bar, with no one left to serve as a buffer between you. You quietly groaned and just concentrated on drinking your whiskey. The bartender was generous enough (or most likely wanted to get more money from you) to pour you drink after drink. Once you became inebriated enough, you couldn't stop yourself from ogling Wolfwood with the most obvious look on your face. The way his adam's apple bobbed up and down as he drank his drink. The way the condensate wet his fingers and small drops of water glided down his wrist, the way the sweat was glistening on his forehead, a few strands of his raven-black hair getting stuck to it.. "Like what you see?" Nicholas chuchled next to you. "Yeah" you've replied absentmindedly, the meaning of your words catching up to you in a few seconds after your reply and you feel like your face is getting hot from embarassement. "Oh Lord...um...t's not what I meant at all!" you mumbled desperately, trying to backpedal from this situation. Wolfwood only shrugged and said to you "That's fine, I understand. I know that you hate me, so don't sweat it" What? Did he really mean this? Well...it's not like you've been acting the friendliest with him... And your overly drunk brain screamed at you that it's terribly important that he knows that it's not the case. That it's the exact opposite thing. "No!" you said way too loudly, making Nico turn his head to you with slightly puzzled expression. "No! It's not like that! It's just that I don't know what to say to you to not sound like a fool...how to walk next to you without constantly looking at you...um...you are completely wrong, I like you so much I cannot stand being next to you. But t's fine..Iknowthatyoudontlikemelikethat.." you basically muttered the convession in a single breath, which made Wolfwood look at you slyly and move closer to you, occupying the epty barstool that belonged to Vash before he left. Your brain was barely thinking, especially now that you've been so so close to your crush for the first time in months. You pressed both of your palms to your knees, leaning in so close to him that your hot breath was fanning his face now. "No! I like you...and...and m'not a grey mouse!" you pouted at him. This made Nicholas hold his breath, before he smiled at you confidently and smugly, like a big arrogant black cat. "Yeah? Then prove it, little mouse" "Prove it? How do I do this?" you inquired innocently. "It's not like I would know. Up to ya, mouse" he shrugged. You frowned, trying to get your thoughts together, then moved even closer to him, craning your neck to smash your lips against his, your palms clutching into the soft flesh of his thighs. Wolfwood hissed, but eagerly accepted your kiss, smirking against your lips and moving his hands to bring you even closer to him. You didn't notice the bartender cursing at you two for being shameless in his tavern and Vash yelping from pain caused by Meryl smashing his back pointing her finger to you.

Being inhuman has its perks. Not many but a few. Immortality is pretty cool. But in Vashs case, hanging out with the humans has brought upon a strange, problem, when it comes to physical touch.

At first, Vash had never heard of tickling or being ticklish. Why would he when everyone has only ever wanted to kill him? Until he met Meryl and Millie. One drunken party had led to a cuddle pile where the two females decided to attack the defenceless male, leading to the discovery. He is, in fact, very ticklish.

He is ticklish absolutely everywhere. Luckily, his huge coat and armour protect him most of the time. You'll have to catch him out of uniform to make him squeal.

Saying catch isn't really right, though. He loves being tickled and won't try to avoid an attack if he sees it coming. Like an obedient pup, he'll lay there and take it. Despite his wriggling, he does his best not to get away or stop those scribbling fingers.

His laugh is wonderful. Bright, loud, full of life. And he's very chatty whilst being wrecked. Being his usual goofy self, he'll say the most random things between his laughter.

"H-Hehey! Ahaha! Gohod I could reheheally go for a snAHAHACK rigihight now! Aha! Hah... Aww, why you stop?"

Brat. Brat. Bratty brat brat. Big playful goob. If he wants tickles, he'll follow you around all day until he gets them. Even if it means tickling you first to get a response, he'll do it. He'll poke you. Scare you. Steal a snack. Even throw some playful cheesy flirting your way.

His favourite are reward tickles.

"Didn't I do a good job taking care of those bandits? Come oooon, you know what to do~" He'd say, sprawling happily over your lap.

Praise him. Tell him how cute he is. It's the only time you might be able to fluster him instead of the other way round. If you manage to accomplish this, he'll cover his ears, trying to hide how red they go.

Drunk Vash tickles? Yes. His gangly limbs are so uncoordinated that he'll just flop around like a wet noodle. Hiccuping and snorting happily. Wolfwood takes full advantage of this as he's usually on the receiving end of tickles~

His most sensitive areas are his knees, ribs, and underarms. He also loves it when you tickle his palm. Having only one real hand means the one he's got needs extra love. The teddybear song is a personal favourite of his. Since he's a big kid, really.

Basically, he loves being tickled. Any time. Any place. For any reason. Laughter is so important to him. How could he not crave the sensation?

Ler:

Run. Just run. This man is a menace. Ever heard of the tickle monster? This guy gives him nightmares. In the best possible way.

For whatever reason, you look down in the dumps, or maybe you just committed the unspeakable SIN of eating his last doughnut. Vash is gonna getcha~

He'll chase you round all day, laughing with you as he puts on his 'villain' voice, cooing and teasing as he makes grabby hands at you as you try to flee.

"I'm gonna getcha~!"

"Mwahaha! You think you can escape the claws of Vash the humanoid Typhoon!? Nae! You will suffer at my hand, Mortaaaal!"

"Wow, you're quick! What's got you so frantic, I wonder? Haha!"

Once he catches you, it's over. He'll use his mechanic arm to hold your wrists, allowing his free hand to do the work.

He's a skitterer. Spider fingers are his favourites since they make his victims giggle the most. Changing spots every couple of seconds to keep you wriggling.

The sharpshooter had also invented his own adorable little game! He calls it 'Don't shoot'.

The ler surprises the Lee, aiming finger guns at them and calling 'Hands up!' The Lee has to respond quick as they can with 'Don't shoot!' Whilst throwing theirs hands up. If they're quick enough, the ler, Vash, approaches with his finger guns, circling and teasing the victim with anticipation. Faking a prod or two. The victim has to not flinch or giggle or they get 'shot' or rather, bombarded with tickly pokes.

Vash, being Vash, always makes the sound effects as he's poking you. "Pew! Pew! Pew! Should have stayed still, bandit!" He also loves being on the receiving end of this game, always losing, curling up as soon as those fingers get too close.

He's so gentle as a ler. Teasy and bubbly as always. He'll pull you into a hug, wriggling his fingers into your sides, blowing raspberries on your neck. He's a big guy, holding you still isn't difficult.

"Ah, Mon précieux, what a lovely singing voice you posesse~"

"A snort!? For me!? Oh my gosh, do it again!"

"Huh? Don't say tickle? Why shouldn't I say tickle? Is tickle a bad word? Is ticklish a bad word, too? What about tickled? Oh gosh, I'm saying all these awful tickly words! Oh well, I've sinned now, might as well go all out~ Tickle, tickle, tickle!"

Once he's tired you out, he'll hold you close to him, chuckling quietly at how flustered you are as he pets your hair. He'll share a doughnut if he feels he's been particularly mean~ Lucky you!

I know that if Tsukino Usagi and Vash The Stampede ever meet they would be instant best friends.

They are so similar, with their blond hair, blue eyes, bleeding hearts, alien-like genetics, black-haired ride-or-die (romantic and otherwise), huge amounts of trauma, black cat, the overall narrative is not kind to them, almost god-like to people, wants to see the kindness in people, love and peace, non-violent nature and penchant for food and sweet things.

Also, Mamoru and Wolfwood are pretty similar. Black-haired orphans, traumatized, don't really talk much about themselves unless narrative needs them too, not exactly human themselves, do almost anything for their other half, they care (even tho they may not be the best at showing it.)

Any way imagine: Usagi and Vash would just be hanging out being lovable menaces, while the other two are like:

Wolfwood: She yours?

Mamoru: Yeah, and the guy's yours?

Wolfwood: I suppose. Want a ciggarate?

Mamoru politely refuses and they continue talking. They might talk about being orphans (or not) but they'll enjoy the other's company. Mamoru talks about his ambition of being a doctor and Wolfwood wonders that if such a kind soul was there in the Eye Of Michael then maybe he wouldn't have to suffer as much as he did, maybe Livio would be safe but what ifs never kept anyone alive

Wolfwood: So what's your weapon?

Mamoru: I'm more of a healer, actually.

Wolfwood: So bare hands, huh? Can't say I see it myself but whatever you feel comfortable with.

Mamoru remembering the 145+ times of him being captured/needing help: yeah..

Idk how they'll meet but yeah i really wish they did.

It's not like it's difficult. There are plenty of things he loves about Wolfwood-- it's just that talking about them to someone else makes his face heat up. He can feel it in the tips of his ears, too. There's a quick glance around before he finally answers, fingers toying with one another.

"I mean. Um. Well." Okay, deep breath. "First of all, I guess, is that he's just. He's just good? I know that sounds stupid, but--. Augh. Just. It's easy to see how much he cares about people. No matter how much he throws a fit about it, he's always goin' out of his way to make sure other people are taken care of. Even folks he doesn't know."

There's an endless list; from dropping by at the flower shop to make sure he's eaten to the days when it had been common place for Wolfwood to be the one to patch him up after a shootout, grumbling about it the entire time. Not to mention everything he'd done for the other people in his life-- how far he was willing to go to help them. Even helping those back on the colony, when the only thing he'd even known about them was that they were important to Vash. "It's... really sweet of him. He has a big heart."

Vash can't help the small laugh that escapes his throat.. "And it's cute, catching him in the act. He gets all flustered if you call him out on it. Which, I guess, that's another thing. He's cute! It's fun to pick on him. Does that make me mean?" Wolfwood picks on him plenty too, though-- and eye for an eye, he guesses.

"He's just like that, though. Puts a lot of care into everything he does. It's really admirable, I think."

"It's easy, too. Just bein' around him. Like it's exactly where I'm supposed to be. Like I can be more comfortable in my own skin." Which, coming from someone who still has so many problems being alright with himself, means a lot. There's a peace in their house that he didn't think he'd ever be able to have. "He makes me laugh and smile and mean it. Lets me be selfish, sometimes. Actually, half the time he wants me to be a bit more selfish."

Never once made Vash feel like a monster, not even when Wolfwood had been scared of him. "Saw everything wrong with me and stayed anyway."

" ... Do you really want me to go on?" he laughs. "It's kinda embarrassing, you know? It's a long list. You'll be stuck here for a while."

"... For real?"

A few beats of silence, and then Vash's face falls into his palms with a frustrated groan. Somehow, he's gotten even redder. "Fine. He's hot, too! How's that fair!? And he refuses to believe me-- but then he goes and is a menace about it anyway! The man walks around the house shirtless half the time-- how am I supposed to get anything done, huh!?"

"And his hands! They're so nice. And distracting. Oh my god." Don't get him started on how easy it is for Wolfwood to pick him up, either. Vash may be thin but he's not that light. Wolfwood still picks him up like it's nothing.

His face is still in his hands, but it does little to muffle his exasperation. "And he's got the whole tall, dark, and handsome schtick too! His nose is perfect. And his jaw. And eyes. And lips." It's like someone puzzle-pieced a person together specifically to be devastatingly attractive.

"Augh!!! Okay. No more." Or else he'd be here all day, and he's already about half-way sure he's going to start melting into the floor any second now.

Just finished Trigun Volume 2...

My god it was amazing! Its definitely a darker tone shift from Volume 1. Vashs deep anger from Monev killing people was displayed very well. The art still is very profound and has an amazing style. Some panels just hit really hard. Its really interesting to see how the Jeneora Rock arc was different. The meeting of the rest of the Gung ho guns was pretty cool and especially the revival of Knives, he seems a lot more menacing and crazy in this version. The angel arm transformation and the shot into the moon as insane as well! Vash having to shoot his own legs so that he would aim higher and not be as restricted by Knives was a really interesting detail as well. Shows how much hes willing to sacrifice to not kill people.

Now for some predictions/theories for the next reading

Wolfwood is revealed to be a gung ho pretty early, although Im not sure if Vash noticed him there with the other Gung ho guns since he was so focused on Knives. Either way, it'll still be an interesting dynamic since he is a gung ho

Knives being revived is pretty interesting as well. Of course that scientist is the one who made it happen but knives was able to become alive again by being reborn out of a plant which is good characterization as well. In other versions of trigun, he doesn't seem to see the plants as equals, more as tools or things to use. He wants to protect them from humans but has no problem using them for his own gain which has been a pretty consistent characterization of Knives whereas, Vash of course interacts with them and speaks with them and sees them as siblings which is another consistent characterization

Since the next part is Maximum, I'm curious to see if it will just be a straight sequel or if they change some elements of the story. All I know is its a lot more traumatic but I'm interested to see it

Wow, uh. I mean we knew Vash was incredibly accurate at aiming before, but to redirect someone else's gun to land a clean shot (particularly one that has as much heft as Wolfwood's) is rather uncanny.

Okay this is the first we've heard of a topic that Wolfwood apparently has disagreements with the Eye of Michael over. ...Actually that was on an assumption that it's a decision on an action, not a religious thing. It's Wolfwood's initial verbal disagreement on religion, isn't it.

Switched to Eng dub for a second 'cause I wasn't sure who said the next couple lines, but yeah I think it's clearer that it's about Wolfwood's denial.

Wait speaking of that's also a Christian term too right. Like Judas denies Jesus or something? I know the term is used in relation to those two in particular but I don't actually know the specifics. It's like "one of you will deny me" or "one of you will betray me" and I don't remember which.

Again not really much to say here! We got some character details, some worldbuilding details, lots of character development & solidification of relationships, and now some immediate threads to be followed up on (Vash's arm and the Plant reveal thing). Feeling much more invested than when I started the series and interested in seeing how this conversation goes!

I will say. The plant did not look uh. very intimidating. kind of reminds me of the... neopets fairies? I don't think that's right, but like some similar franchise kind of had similar vibes, shape-wise.

...is this the first time the Plant stuff got fully revealed in the show? I went in knowing and haven't been keeping track. I know it was established that Vash is a) non-human b) fell from a spaceship onto the planet and c) had 'relatives' in pods on said spaceship. Not to mention his twin also having pretty obvious markings. But I'm curious about the reasons for the pacing of these reveals, since we got so much of Wolfwood's backstory just last episode.

okay you already know what time it is: trigun flower shop/tattoo and piercing parlour AU where vash, meryl, milly, and roberto all work at a flower shop while the gung ho guns all work at a large tattoo and piercing across the street and when a menacing beast of a child comes crashing through both places, wolfwood the master tattoo artist ends up actually meeting his floral neighbours and hits it off amazingly

the outlaws run Floral July, a small flower shop downtown. it’s a homey and comforting place for all, filled to the brim with foliage, art, and fun facts (courtesy of vash) about various plants. this is everyone’s second choice in career, all of them had other plans but decided they didn’t enjoy what they were doing enough to warrant and staying and wanted to do something special abd fufilling for them, which ended up being a flower shop. roberto was an ex editor and chief of Gunsmoke News, milly and meryl were both insurance workers sick of the tediousness, and vash was a bio-engineer alongside his brother (until the lab they worked at had a major accident and they both decided to switch careers). milly and meryl were friends who met at their insurance job but seem like they’ve been friends forever with how close they are. meryl met roberto shortly after quitting, as she was considering applying for some journalism-related jobs and even though none accepted, she met roberto after an interview at gunsmoke and learned about the floral shop he was opening up through there. vash came a bit later once the store was preparing to go, like a god damn stampede he came and brought utter chaos with him but also was really keen on helping them out with street set up as he passed by and knew a shit ton about flowers AND he needed a new job so he applied and ended up working with the crew. thus the floral family was born.

meanwhile, the gung ho guns run Knives & Guns: Tattoo and Piercing. it’s a very different atmosphere, filled with a lot more bickering and smirking as they annoy the shit out of each other than you might see at floral july. after quitting his bio-engineering job due to an accident he 100% not cause but was also 100% his fault and having his brother leave him in the dust, nai saverem decided to say Fuck It and bought a property downtown to turn into some kind of business (he always was more of a businessman) which eventually became knives & guns. what he failed to realize though is like the next fucking day vash got a job across the street and vash still refused to even talk to him lmao. though nai owned the place, he mostly dealt with the business side and legato who was moreso like the manager actually had experience with tattoos and lead the team even though he was a little freaky guy. elendria and rai-dei do piercings while livio and wolfwood do that tattoos most if the time (there are others but especially them. midvalley is there but ngl even though he’s technically a tattooist he’s also just some Guy that brings a sax to work and can be heard playing in the background lmao. while most of them met for the first time here, livio and wolfwood were already brothers who aged out of the foster system together and managed to stick through and get a job together. it wasn’t either of their dreams but it pays the bills and they’re good at it. the same sentiment could probably be said for all of them honestly. wolfwood though is so good at his job (even though he lied on his resume and stole half the stuff from his ex-boss Chapel + takes 8 hour smoke breaks + is the fucking worst to legato and nai) many people come by to get a tattoo from him specifically.

zazzie is a neutral force, just some kid who shouldn’t be in either place really but comes by anyway, it’s just an unspoken rule that nai let’s them into the shop. so when they figure out nai’s brother is across the street they cause a shit ton of mischief using bug friends. idk what exactly it would be but somehow it leads to wolfwood having to chase them down and watch over them to avoid a murder taking place, further leading to him meeting the outlaws and having something just click when he sees them, especially vash.

For the streamer au; I would like to think that Nick has an ubserdly high sub goal to get the twins in maid costumes (Nai agreed under the pretense that Nick's channel wasn't as popular and also that Nick ALSO had to dress and act as a butler for a day with them filming it). But can you imagine the reaction of Nico having to break this news of hitting their milestone to Nai??
