A guide to styling ethnic wear for modern, everyday fashion.
History of Ethnic Wear
Ethnic wear refers to traditional clothing styles from specific cultural or ethnic groups. These garments are often passed down through generations and are an important part of the group's cultural identity.
Tumblr media
The history of ethnic wear is vast and varied, as different cultures have developed their own distinct clothing styles over time. Some examples of traditional ethnic wear include:
Sari: a long, draped garment worn by women in South Asia, including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The sari is typically made of lightweight fabric and is worn with a blouse and petticoat.
Hanbok: a traditional Korean garment consisting of a long, flowing dress or skirt worn by women, and a jacket and pants worn by men. Hanboks are made of lightweight, breathable fabric and are often worn on special occasions.
Kimono: a long, flowing robe worn by both men and women in Japan. Kimonos are typically made of silk or other luxurious fabrics and are worn with a wide belt called an obi.
Cheongsam: a form-fitting, one-piece dress worn by women in China and other parts of East Asia. The cheongsam is typically made of silk or other fine fabrics and features a high collar and side slits.
Dashiki: a brightly colored, loose-fitting tunic worn by men in West Africa. The dashiki is often made of lightweight cotton or other natural fabrics and is worn with matching pants or a skirt.
These are just a few examples of the many types of ethnic wear that have been worn throughout history. Each type of clothing has its own unique history, cultural significance, and style.
Styling Guide of Ethnic Wear
Here are some tips for styling ethnic wear for modern, everyday fashion:
1. Mix and match: Pair traditional ethnic pieces with more modern, western items to create a unique and multicultural look. For example, try pairing a sari with a leather jacket, or a kimono with a pair of jeans.
2. Accessorize: Add a pop of color or some sparkle to your ethnic outfit with the right accessories. Jewellery, shoes, bags, and scarves are all great options for dressing up an ethnic garment.
3. Experiment with layering: Ethnic wear is often lightweight and flowing, so layering can add texture and depth to your look. Try wearing a traditional tunic over a pair of slim-fit pants, or a long, flowing skirt over leggings.
4. Keep it simple: Ethnic wear can be very ornate and decorative, so it's important not to overdo it. Choose one or two statement pieces and keep the rest of your outfit simple to avoid looking too cluttered.
5. Be confident: Ethnic wear is all about celebrating your cultural heritage and personal style. Embrace your unique look and wear your ethnic garments with confidence.
6. Know the rules: Some cultural groups have specific guidelines for how traditional garments should be worn. It's important to respect these rules and customs when wearing ethnic clothing, and to be mindful of cultural sensitivity.
By following these tips, you can confidently and stylishly incorporate ethnic wear into your everyday wardrobe.

Sunny Daze
Tumblr media
WARNINGS: smoking, cursing, drunk behavior
Pairings: Sam x OC, OC x brief OC
Chapter 8
Sunny’s POV
By the time we concluded our work for the day, I was ready to have a mental breakdown. It was no different from any other job I’d done with Nathan but this time I really almost kicked the bucket; several times. Floors had crumbled beneath my feet, Nathan almost got impaled by spikes, Sam almost set off booby traps maybe twice… all before 4 o’clock. It was exhausting. All things considered though, we now had a new lead on the treasure. It led us to Madagascar just off the coast of South Africa. So that was a plus.
I entered my hotel room, immediately adjusting the heat. I was freezing and everything hurt. My back, my face, my hands, and every part of my legs. “Shit…” I cursed as I crashed onto my bed. I felt grateful to be on one period. I’d been shot at and beaten up all day… I sat up with a groan, my muscles aching in my lower back as I did. I shed myself of my purple jacket, the skin on my arms damp from sweat. I wanted to cry but Nate needed me strong. And now that my feelings were beginning to arise, I had personal reasons to help save Sam. We had grown a bit closer as I watched the brothers walk ahead of me, fanboying over the late pirate’s history. Every now and then, he’d turn around to look at me, walking backwards as he spoke just to keep me in the loop. I remembered how I felt those butterflies in my stomach as the childlike excitement filled his weathered eyes. ‘Well now ya done it…’ I thought with a groan. I pulled the boots off my feet, relieved that my toes could finally get some air. I looked at my hands as I peeled the gloves off, revealing swollen knuckles; my fingers cut up and my nails dirty. I went into the bathroom and stared into the sink a moment, gathering my thoughts before looking into the mirror at my somewhat wounded face. I had a bruise on my cheekbone, my lip slightly swollen, and I had a cut on my forehead. All things considered, I looked okay. I thought I’d look worse. A knock on my door interrupted my thoughts and I grew nervous. Paranoia ensued as I walked to my door, picking up my deserter from the countertop of the dresser as I went. When I looked in the peephole, I sighed in relief. It was just Sam. I opened the door and let him in with a tired groan. He eyeballed me as I placed my gun back on the counter, a worried expression playing across his features. “You okay?” He asked me carefully. I laughed, shaking my head.
“As okay as I can be.” I replied, picking up my duffle bag and opening it up on my bed. He chuckled gently and grabbed me by the elbow.
“Sunny, I know we had a few close calls, but c’mon, we did it. Okay? We did th- you, me, and Nate- we did this, sweetheart. And we’ve got the jump on Rafe for the most part.” He told me. I smiled to myself, not knowing what else to do with my face in the midst of my thoughts.
“They know we’re headed to King’s Bay, Sam-”
“Ah, but they don’t know where….on King’s Bay. We do.” He said, gesturing between us. Something about the way he was talking just didn’t sit right with me. It didn’t just feel like his life depended on it, but like he was obsessed with it. Like he wouldn’t be complete as a person if he didn’t find this treasure. I took a deep sigh, readying myself to say something but he put his hands on my shoulders and gave me a gut wrenching smile. “We did it, Sunny. And we… deserve a little celebration.” He smirked deviously. The glint in his eye told me everything I needed to know about how the rest of my night would go.
“Samuel Drake-” I began but he took my hands in his.
“You got your ass handed to you today. You at the very least deserve something fun for yourself. So whaddya say? We are in Scotland… Wanna hit the pubs?” He asks, holding my cold, clammy fingers in between his massive, warm ones. I melted at the look he gave me and groaned, his smiling growing with every passing second.
“Alright, just... quit it with the puppy dog eyes. You’re killin’ me, smalls. I gotta shower first.” I told him, walking to my bag to pull out a fresh set of clothes.
“Awesome, I’ll meet you outside in an hour?” He asked. I turned to look at him as he nervously bumped his fists together and I smiled.
“Yeah. An hour's fine.” I said, gathering up my showering materials in my arms and hitting the bathroom. “You can see yourself out, bud.” I say closing the door behind me.
“You sure I can’t stay a while and listen to you take a shower?” He asked in a playfully suggestive tone as I began to undress. My jaw dropped and my face turned red. Luckily he couldn’t see that.
“Go away, Sam!” I shouted with a laugh. I could hear him laughing all the way out the door, that familiar clicking sound let me know I was alone in my room again.
After my shower, I dressed in a simple black long sleeved shirt and black jeans with boots to match. I wrapped my hair up in a towel as I put on a bit of black liner and mascara. I couldn’t do much more than that with my face hurting so much. When my hair dried I grabbed up my wallet, keys, and jacket before leaving. As I placed the black leather studded jacket on my body, I patted myself down for my cigarettes. I pulled one out with my teeth and just held it between my lips until I made it outside. Sam stood out there clad in a clean brown Henley and torn jeans. For some reason I noticed they made his ass look great in them and I looked up and away to avoid staring. As I pushed the door open, the cold hit me gently. It wasn’t as harsh in the city as it was in the mountains and I was grateful for it. I wasn’t sure my fingers could take anymore of this cold weather. I pulled up beside him, nudging him in his ribs and he looked at me with a smile. “Where’s Nate and Sully?” I asked as we began to walk the street.
“They didn’t wanna come. Too tired.” He said, rubbing his own sleepy eyes. I gave a fake gasp and chuckled.
“You’re kidding?” I replied sarcastically. He took a drag of his cigarette with a smile. “So where we goin’?” I asked.
“Well I heard there was a pub just up the street. Supposedly they have thee strongest, smoothest whiskey in Scotland. I’m a gamblin’ man so I’m willing to bet on it.” He said, making various hand gestures. “How ‘bout you, sister?” I looked up at the sky as it began to shift into an orange blur.
“What are we bettin’?” I asked simply, never taking my gaze from the beautiful sunset.
“First one to get drunk has to flirt with the winner’s person of choice.” He said smugly. I turned to look at him with an intrigued expression, chewing the inside of my cheek.
“Any person? Like say…. I picked out a little old Scottsman-”
“-Um , I’d love it if you didn’t.” He rebuttals and I burst into laughter. He shook his head, taking in the scenery with that smile of his. The one where he’s not up to anything, just a genuine smile. My cheeks heated up at the sound of his boisterous voice. I kicked around the loose rocks beneath my feet and playfully nudged him with my shoulder as we came upon the pub.
“This it?” I asked, tuning up my face a bit. It was a shoddy looking place. Not much decoration to it but the people inside were lively. Mostly full of women looking for men and old drunkards by the jukebox. Sam held the door open for me and I stepped inside.
“I guess we seat ourselves, huh?” He asked, looking around the room for some empty seating.
“How about you get the drinks and I’ll find us somewhere to sit?” I said unzipping my jacket. He nodded and turned to leave but I grabbed the back of his shirt to stop him a moment. “And don’t do that thing you do.”
“What thing?” He asked with an amused grin.
“That thing where you act like some asshole American.”
“Am I not an asshole American?” He questioned backing away from me with a smirk. He had a point. I rolled my eyes, fighting off the smile that was trying to make itself present. “I’ll behave!” I heard him call after me as I gravitated towards a booth in a corner near the jukebox. I sat down as I took off my jacket and began to bite my nails as I looked around the room. My eyes seemed to immediately go to Sam. Women nearby all looked at him, fixing their hair and trying to catch his attention. I watched his tall frame as he rolled up the sleeves of his thermal to his strong forearms and leaned onto the counter as he ordered us a bottle. He turned his head to see where I was and shot me a wink and a smile when he found me, not even noticing the women around him. I smirked and flipped him off. He grabbed his chest and made a face. “Ouch!” He mouthed to me before laughing. I blushed as he grabbed the bottle and paid the bartender before approaching the table. He placed two glasses and the bottle on the table, easing into the seat slowly as he groaned in pain. I winced as I heard his knees crack a bit. He leaned into the corner of the seat with a tired grunt as I grabbed the bottle. I poured our glasses and smirked as I watched him light a cigarette.
“Maybe you should’ve stayed at the hotel, too, old man.” I teased. He chuckled and exhaled a cloud of smoke, rubbing out a pain in his shoulder.
“And miss out on some Scottish whiskey and the company of a good woman? I don’t think so.” He said, pinching the bridge of his bandaged nose. I smiled to myself as I pushed his glass toward him. He picked it up swiftly, raising it before us to toast. “Here’s to Avery and damn good whiskey.” We clinked glasses before taking a long sip. I sighed as the liquid sent a calming burn through my chest. He nodded his head, looking at the glass. “That’s not bad at all.”
We sat for hours just talking and joking about. The flirty banter began to grow the drunker we got. It started with little touches on my hand here and there. I would hit his forearms when he’d say something flattering. Then came the compliments. “You’re a hard woman, Sunny Spurrs, and I mean that with absolute respect.” He told me as he poured us another glass. I gave a giggle as I watched him down his entire glass almost immediately. “I mean I’m not sexist y’know. I believe women can do everything a man does and maybe even better but you? Boy, you’ve got me beat.” He told me. I rested my chin in my hand as I watched him drunkenly spew out from the mouth. He was very talkative when tipsy and the flush across his cheeks made it even more adorable. I caught myself staring into his bright eyes as he spoke. “You drunk yet?” He asked me as I started on a cigarette. I smirked, not giving away my intoxication status. “Don’t think I haven’t forgotten about our little deal, sweetheart.” He sniffled, pouring us both another drink. The bottle was nearing its end and it was time to determine the winner.
Sam’s POV
I was pretty drunk. The whiskey was good but I knew fully well it would take another half of a bottle to really put me there. I smiled as I watched her cheeks turn red, hanging her head in her hands as if it were too heavy to hold up anymore. “You drunk yet?” I ask her again.
“I-” she suddenly hiccups and giggles uncontrollably, burying her face in her arms. I felt my heart explode, looking at the mess that was Sunny Spurrs. I couldn’t stop the smile from spreading and I placed a hand on her shoulder to shake her about.
“Ahhhh, See! I totally knew I’d beat you.” I teased her. I lied. I was just as drunk; I just happened to be able to hide it better. The poor girl could barely sit up straight.
“This is such…..bullshit.” She mumbled and I cracked up.
“Deal’s a deal, Sunny.” I said leaning back in my seat, scanning the crowd for an unsuspecting person.
“Just take your pick, asshole.” She grumbled, rubbing her temples as she watched me.
“Shhhh! These things take time…. I wanna fully enjoy watching you suffer.” I chuckled mischievously.
“You’re horrible.” She whines. My eyes land on a man sitting at the bar. Old guy, dressed in a simple green collared shirt and slack. In complete honesty he looked like Victor but with glasses. A bit of laughter crept out as I turned back around to face Sunny and light a cigarette.
“Old guy at the bar, 9 o clock.” I told her, scratching my hairline with my thumb. Her eyes darted to the bar and she groaned aggressively.
“You’re literally the worst- you know that right?” She said standing up, using the table to steady herself. I stood to help her as she tripped a little. We were both giggling messes.
“Alright, go get em, tiger.” I teased, following her to the bar, guiding her by the shoulders. She turned around in my hands and panicked a little.
“What do I even say?!” She whisper-yelled to me.
“I dunno. He’s an old guy and you’re a supple young woman,” I told her, blushing around my ears a bit as I did. “Easier target than Rafe. Use your accent on him. Be a seductive southern beauty or something…” She looked up at me from beneath her lush black lashes and rolled her eyes, snatching herself out of my grip.
“Fine.” She hissed.
We stood at the bar side by side, the old man standing closest to her. I turned my back to her, actively listening to her as she lazily posed against the bar. “Sir, I just have to tell you…. I love your shirt. It’s so handsome on you…” she mewed to the poor old man. I covered my mouth trying my best not to laugh and turned to face the bar so I could watch the scene from my peripheral. She had her hand on his shoulder, rubbing her finger over the collar of the man’s shirt slowly.
“Why t’ank ya, lass.” He responded politely.
“Personally, I think it’d look better on the floor…” she said hesitantly and I coughed on my smoke, luckily loud enough to cover my laughter. She kicked my shin quickly but never turned to look at me. It hurt but it was still funny.
“Well I’m flattered, this coming from a beautiful young lady as yourself but I’m afraid I’m spoken for.” The man answered, flashing the wedding band on his finger. I could see Sunny’s ears turn beet red as I buried my face in my arms, laughing uncontrollably. It was over before she even started.
“Ah! I see. Well I hope you enjoy the rest of your night. Sorry, sir.” She said abruptly, walking away to the hallway near the bathrooms. I followed her, practically wheezing as she leaned against a wall. I placed my hands on her shoulders, still trying to catch my breath and she rolled her eyes hard. I hugged her tightly, still cracking up.
“‘I think it would look better on the floor???’” I began to tear up a bit and she just crossed her arms.
“I’m glad that you’re finding this so amusing…” She looked so pitiful, I decided to give her a bit of relief. I leaned against the wall facing her.
“Pick a person.” I said. She perked up and inches closer to me, peering past my shoulder. I was getting a little nervous to be honest. I couldn’t see who she was picking. Then a smirk took place on her curvy lips. Truthfully, I felt bad for her. “I’m not gonna let you go out like that on your own.”
“Because I’m a nice person. I’m gonna give you something fairly easy. Cute as you are it shouldn’t be too hard.” She told me with a wink. I physically felt my face heat up. “Dark hair, brown eyes, green jacket- 2 o clock.” I smiled as I turned my head, trying not to look suspicious.
“Shit….” I cursed. She was beautiful; tall girl with an astute face and dark wavy hair, fashionably cropped above her shoulders. I watched with a smirk as she laughed about with her friends. “Sunny Spurrs….”
“She’s hot, right?” She grinned, nodding her head. I bit my lip and shook my head in agreement as I admired her long legs clad in black leggings. “‘Go get em, tiger…’” She said in a mocking tone, backing away into the bathroom. Something was beginning to feel off.
“Wait- you’re not gonna stay and see what happens?” I asked her. A Cheshire expression appeared on her face as she opened the door.
“I think I already know how this is gonna go down…” she said simply before entering the bathroom.
“Your confidence in me is astounding.” I joked as I ran my fingers through my hair and adjusted my pants to make sure I didn’t look a mess. I took a deep breath before approaching her….
Sunny’s POV
To say it was a setup would be an understatement. I put him in line for the gallows. This girl was definitely gay. The moment I saw her, my gaydar began pinging off the walls. He was gonna embarrass the hell out of himself. I could just see it now. He’d walk over with his chest all puffed out, staring at her with those beautiful hazel eyes of his, trying his best to be alluring. He’d drop his line and then BAM! She’d hit him with a “Sorry I’m into girls.” It would happen in seconds. I cackled to myself just thinking about it. “Poor Sammy.” I said as I opened a stall to use the bathroom. I washed my hands afterward and stood in the mirror to look at my drunk self, my eyes half lidded and my body swaying a tad uncontrollably. ‘Git it together, Sunny…’ I thought as I used my finger to wipe away the makeup under my eyes that ran. The swelling on my lip had gone down and I was back to looking pretty normal. As I pulled my lipstick from my pocket, I put a little on my finger and tapped a bit on my lip. I was beginning to feel a bit aroused and I knew that Sam was going to wanna find someone to leave with after this. Truthfully, so did I. That’s when she walked in, groaning. She glanced at me a moment as she approached the bathroom sink to put her purse down and touch up her makeup same as I. She really was beautiful. Her eyes were big and brown with dark lashes and she had a cute shape to her pink lips. Her cheeks flush against her pale skin. ‘God, I hope she has an accent! That would be super cute…’ I thought as I rubbed the leftover lipstick from my finger onto the side of my pants. She looked at me as she played around with her short wavy locks...
“I’ve never seen you here b’fore.” She spoke in a strong voice, a Scottish accent playing off of her words. ‘Yes!’ I thought as my heart fluttered.
“How do you know you haven’t seen me before?” I asked her, adjusting my shirt and straightening my posture. I could see her eyes scan me up and down in my peripheral.
“It’s my local. I come here all the time.” She smiled. “Trust me. I definitely would’ve remembered seeing you…” she mewled. I smirked as I scratched my head. “American? I heard your accent. What are you doin’ slumming around these parts?”
“You caught me. I’m here on vacation with some friends. You may have met one of them. Tall guy, rugged charm-”
“Horrible pickup lines?” She added abruptly and I snorted, giggling.
“That’s the one.” I chuckled and she smiled at me.
“He seemed like a nice guy but I turned him down…” she said leaning her butt against the counter. I leaned on my hand to face her.
“Aww, what happened? He not your type?” I asked.
“Not exactly.” she mumbled before inching closer to me. “But you are…” She ran a long pale finger against mine and I shivered.
‘I fuckin’ knew it…’ I thought. I was in for it tonight...

The sight of Kenya's all-female motorbike gang, the Inked Sisterhood, often shocks people in the socially conservative East African nation.
The group recently completed a 270km (170-mile) ride from the capital, Nairobi, south to Loitokitok town. Their black leather boots, guards, jackets and helmets are the only protection from the notoriously dangerous red-dirt roads.
Some residents of the town, which is on the border with Tanzania, did a double take, but these women are used to faces of surprise.
Patience Mehta , a farmer and administrator, started the Inked Sisterhood two years ago as a way to connect and empower women who ride motorbikes. It grew out of the Inked Bikers training school in Nairobi, where many of the women learnt to ride, and currently has 46 members.
The gang is one of five all-female biker groups to have sprung up over the last few years, including the Throttle Queens, Piki Dada and Heels of Steel.

5. New York, Fall
Summary: Travel writer/photojournalist AU, slow burn, mutual pining, angst, fluff and adventures around the world.
Pairing: Alec Hardy x Hannah Baxter Rating: Mature Word count: 1.6k
Prologue  |  Chap. 1  |  2  |  3  |  4  | Ao3
Tumblr media
Hannah was too fond of clothing and accessories to be a minimalist packer. She kept her wardrobe well organized, divided by climates and types of activities, but used creativity to select the right clothes. It was an art. One that began with a theme, a story she wanted her pictures to tell. (She’d once packed only retro-inspired clothes for a long weekend in Paris during which she visited movie-famous locations.) And since, on a cruise, hauling a heavy suitcase around wasn’t an issue, she may have gone a little overboard (pun intended) with the nautical theme: white and navy stripes, tiny anchors, big anchors, sailor collars, mermaids...
“I have nothing to wear,” she whined, dumping half her suitcase on the floor of her cabin.
The ship would dock in Manhattan soon, and she still hadn’t found the perfect outfit to go to Hardy’s photography exhibition. Something that looked irresistible yet like she hadn’t made an effort at all. Not like she worked in a theme park.
The whole thing was ridiculous anyway. Her contract with the cruise line gave her a choice among four destinations and ten dates— she could have gone to Alaska!— but she’d chosen a place she’d already visited on somewhat inconvenient dates in October, just on the off chance she might run into him. He didn’t even know she was going to be there. She couldn’t decide whether to tell him. Whether she wanted to see him again. She didn’t usually keep in touch with people she met abroad. The moments they shared were perfect as they were. Meeting again just wouldn’t be the same. Why ruin a perfectly good memory?
But Alec…
She’d said before she wanted a man who would challenge her, but parachuting or strange foods was what she had in mind, not ethical dilemmas.
At least she had a fantastic leather jacket.
The World Press Photo event took place in Brooklyn whereas the ship docked on the west side of Manhattan. It didn’t look that far on the map but, once again, she’d underestimated distances in America. Google Maps informed her it was an hour-long public transport journey to the building where the conference took place. They docked at 10am, and she had to be back on board by 4pm. What kind of cruise stays only six hours in New York but stays overnight in Nova Scotia?
She was familiar with the subway from previous visits, and seamlessly joined the crowd on the platform. She wore her headphones even if her music barely pierced the metal grinding of the old subway cars. She tapped her feet, at first to the beat of Lana Del Rey, but then out of nervousness. What would she even say to him? Oh, hi, funny meeting you here.
By the time she walked out of the subway station, her skin was clammy and smelled of rust and other people’s sweat. An autumnal breeze refreshed her and chased dead leaves around her feet.
She washed her hands and face, sprayed some perfume on her neck and shook her hair for volume. With a sigh, she blew a strand off her face.
Beside the door, a banner announced: “Alec Hardy, a retrospective”. A black and white portrait of him, with a hand tugging back his hair and an annoyed look on his face, told visitors he didn’t appreciate having the viewfinder turned on him. The lights and shadows in the picture revealed his physical flaws: the fine lines at the corners of his eyes, freckles on his cheeks and nose, even some greying hair at his temples and in his beard. She only ever used black and white to hide a too-red face or unflattering light. He didn’t hide anything, and the photo was stunning.
She read the short biography next to it. Forty-two years old, ten years older than her. She filed the information away. Everything else she knew from looking him up already.
In the high-ceilinged, white room, his photographs, in various sizes, lined the walls and hung from the ceiling to create corridors.
Hannah scanned the crowd of art students, photography enthusiasts and other conference attendees with lanyards around their necks. She didn’t see him, and couldn’t tell which of relief or disappointment swelled in her chest.
The exhibition began with Alec’s early work on the streets of Glasgow in the 90s: poverty, union strikes, and the punk scene. Domestic moments caught through dusty windows, spike-haired lovers in a park, and children playing among burning rubbish bins. She smiled at a self-portrait, his reflection in a broken mirror, an old Leica covered half his face, wire-frame glasses and smoke from a hand-rolled cigarette covered the other half.
Political protests and revolts followed. From Ireland to South Africa. He’d been right in the eye of it, among the armed men, the bleeding noses and mouths shouting for justice. In the rage and lust.
Hannah walked from one to the other, heart beating fast as if watching an action movie. How many times had he been threatened? Held at gunpoint? Kicked and punched? He really made a habit of putting himself in danger’s way. His recklessness scared her, in a good way.
His later work shifted away from the action towards the devastation left in their wake. Destroyed villages, grieving families, scarred men, empty-eyed women. More children featured in his photos. She recognized Pulau Kesuma: a pile of discarded monogrammed hotel towels among flowers, new fishing gear left to rust, an old fisherman with the sea etched on his skin. With every picture, Hannah’s heart grew heavier. By the last photo, tears threatened to ruin her mascara. And yet, something in the way he showcased sunlight gave her hope.
Hannah rounded a corner and gasped: there was a photo of her. Taken at night, darkness hid her face, but she recognized her leg kicking an arch of bioluminescent plankton. She raised her cell phone to take a picture of it and share it on social media, but changed her mind. She looked at it closer. She wasn’t used to seeing herself through someone else’s camera. An image over which she had no control. A moment of unstaged spontaneity. She wasn’t used to feeling humbled. She watched other people’s reaction to it. They didn’t know what it meant.
The picture of her was part of a special section dedicated to his more artistic work. Random snapshots he’d never dedicated an entire series to before now. Breathtaking landscapes, powerful oceans, a colorful Indian wedding, elephants in Thailand, coal-smeared Congolese children smiling bright, several photos of a baby girl. Through his lens, even the streets of London became poetic. And she thought that pain and misery did not diminish the beauty of the world, if anything, the fact that people endured and kept laughing and creating, was all the more wondrous because of it.
She went around the room a second time, always on the lookout for Hardy. She did a double-take at every brown-haired or bearded man, only to be disappointed. Before she knew it, she’d spent more time there than at the Louvre. She lingered in the building for as long as she could, visited the other exhibitions, but had to get back to the port soon. She decided to leave a message in the guest book, leaving it up to fate whether he would see it.
Outside the building, golden sunshine trickled between fiery leaves and alighted every raindrop falling across its beams. Umbrellas bloomed and children laughed, and Hannah was keenly aware that each person around her had their own story, their own unique perspective on life.
Like light shining through a prism, daily life was dissolved into millions of shades by the people experiencing it.
Hannah walked two subway stations farther, fascinated by the city thrumming with life around her.
To capture that variety, she used to write in-depth articles about encounters with one person. She’d gradually abandoned those in favor of shorter pieces for the attention-deficient social media users, and marketing disguised as personal anecdotes. Perhaps she should do that again.
She smiled at the young latina woman walking her dog, but only received a wary look in return.
This strange hyper-awareness followed her on board the cruise ship, but morphed into introspection once alone in her cabin. Seeing Hardy’s journey made her consider her own.
When asked why she started traveling, she always told the same story. She, Ben and Erin formed an inseparable trio of best friends in secondary school. They dreamed of backpacking through Europe. Once in uni, they kept postponing their plans for all sorts of reasons. Unfortunately, Erin died abruptly during their second year. Realizing how short and unpredictable life is, Hannah had packed her bags and left England.
It was a nice story, but it wasn’t the whole truth. She never said how her friend died, that she left even before the funeral, that she stayed too long in Amsterdam to numb her guilt, that there was a reason she didn’t keep in touch with the people she met while traveling.
The rocking waves failed to lull her to sleep. She nearly called Hardy twice, but her longing scared her. Her emotions felt too close to the surface, too easy to bruise.
She wrote all night and deleted the file in the morning.
They docked in Boston next. She filled a travel mug with black coffee and headed off the boat with the firm intention of being her former, professional self. She hadn’t even posted on Instagram yesterday. It really was for the best that she hadn’t encountered Hardy. They had shared a moment in Asia and that was the end of it. She had to focus on rebuilding her reputation after what happened with Elite Travelers.
Outside the cruise terminal, where buses awaited passengers for day tours, the marketing liaison waved her over. Before she’d even said hi to him, someone else called her name.
“Baxter!”
Her heart melted.

94. Favourite season
Autumn 🍂!!!!!!!
98. Favourite historical era?
Just bring me somewhere and somewhen that i know nothing about. That’s partially how and why i chose to study spanish alongside english and to take some my classes on hispanoamérica or south africa. But i must say that having a class of shakespeare, i would certainly have loved to see with mine own eyes an elizabethan production of one of his classics in the globe. There are some parameters for the theatre of that era, because in a theater like the globe, it’s an open-aired theater, and as there is no electricity yet, the plays happen during the day. So if, as it does so happen in shakespeare, you have a nighttime scene, you must represent it in some way. You cannot turn off the light, but you can bring someone to hold a latern to symbolise the moon. Also there is none or so little stage directions that each director does whatever he wants (still today they can do whatever they want) also women are not allowed to play so young men have to take their place and disguise themselves as women and speak with a high-piched voice that is not natural at all. (One of shakespeare’s plays involves a woman disguised as a man, and so the actor had to act like a woman passing for a man. The short-cut here would be to act like a man, but honestly where would be the fun when you can watch other men and pick out what gestures, what walk, what body language a woman would copy to pass as a man and to amplify them) and elizabethan theatre is very meta-theatrical so they know how ridiculous it all looks but they don’t care other than being funny and have fun so yep for the sheer ridiculousness of it i’ll say elizabethan era in london

Why being a Sam/Jared!stan or a Dean/Jensen!stan is the stupidest status to hold and why these fans generally annoy me.
Our boys are beautiful.  They have flaws sure.  But they are human and, in my humble opinion, they are some of the best people in Hollywood.  Morally, they are better than other human beings who work in that sleazy town.  I really respect that.
Jared should be a guide to other actors, on how to treat your fans.  Other actors should treat Jared's footage, with his fans, as a set work on how to behave when encountering people that love you.  I had a crush of Viggo Mortensen, but the one thing about him, that I didn't approve of, was that he didn't want to be approached in, say, a coffee shop because he was being disturbed.  Don't take a job that makes people care for you and then get irritated because people care for you.  I still admire Viggo but I will never approach him because he doesn't like that.  I dont think I will ever get to meet Jared because I am from South Africa.  But if I ever did, I will be brave enough to at least wave to him or blow him a kiss.  I know he wont ignore me because he doesn't do that with his fans.  Jared Padalecki makes you fall in love with him.  The best thing about Sam Winchester, is that Sam is played by this awesome creature.
I was abused thrice in my life.  Twice as a child and once as a grown up.  Nobody helped me.  That is why I have a soft spot for Jensen.  He protects vulnerable people.  Weak people and people with illnesses [like Jared] seek him out for companionship, support and protection.  Being sick and broke is horrible.  But Jared has been employed for 14 years because he had a friend who wouldn't let him quit and who never complained about his illness.  I wish I had a Jensen when I was working, who would be patient with me too.  He has kept women safe from predators in the past.  He talks about the production assistants and the reason why I admire that, is because production assistant are the lowest on a set hierarchy.  They do menial work.  And Jensen leaves the big wigs of CW and Supernatural and compliments these small fries.
Both boys are flawed.  Obviously.  I mean, their human beings, after all.  I bet the person reading this is full of flaws.  I am full of flaws.  Nobody is perfect.  Nobody has a good life either.  J2 deal with their own hurdles.  So do we.  But when there is an unnecessary, easy to avoid hurdle, that is when I get livid.  Years ago, when Supernatural was born, the only ''war'' that raged in SPN fandom was between Samgirls and Deangirls over which guy is better.  Why?  May I ask, what is wrong with you?  When I first came across these ignorant fools I thought:
Why does loving one guy mean you automatically have to hate the other one?
And why is it that if your fave is written in a way that you don't approve of, for the sake of furthering the story, it automatically means that the writers are favoring the other one.
Seasons where bad things have happened to Sam [and Dean equally or by extension] have generally done well.  Look at seasons 1 to 6.  When Sam is the inflicted one and Dean is reacting, we get a Hurt/Comfort scenario that we don't even have to write about, because it is all there on the screen, laid out for us.  Those were enjoyable seasons.  But the stans were never satisfied.
Samstans:  Why are they demonizing and torturing poor Sam??!?!?!
Deanstans:  Jensen should leave this show because they give all the story arcs to Jared.
Why is it that the general audience liked seasons with Sam in peril better?  First reason was because the focus was on the brothers.  Second reason, which nobody seems to understand, is that Dean is one of the unique jewels of Supernatural.  Supernatural's dust bowl Americana and texture is closely linked to Dean.  The dearly departed leather jacket, the rock music, the 67 Chevy Impala all are part of the Supernatural landscape and all belong to Dean.  His character, because Jensen has comedic prowess, adds snark and sass to Supernatural.  Sam's seriousness is offset by Dean's sassiness.  The added spice to Supernatural is Dean's character.  Having him reacting, adds texture and emotion to the overall Supernatural story.  Seeing Sam in danger freaks us out.  And seeing Dean go into rescue mode calms us down because ''don't worry, he'll save Sam''.  Meanwhile:
Samstans:  Why do they have to wussify Sam to make Dean look good?
Deanstans:  So is Dean totally pointless until Sam is in trouble? Give him his own story, for goodness sake.
Season 7 was the first season where the brothers were starting to take a minor back seat to other characters, but Sam was getting sick with hallucinations and Dean was going into protective big brother mode, and that was because Ross-Lemming and her agenda came on board and had not been promoted yet, to a position of power.  In Season 8, the promotion happened.  Suddenly Dean and Sam are separated.  They are at loggerheads.  Their reconciliation was meh! but suddenly we started to lose Dean to demonDean, MarkofCain Dean, BesottedwithAmara Dean, and now MichaelDean.  In other words, we are losing our unique jewel of Supernatural: The Dean Winchester who added texture to the landscape of Supernatural.  Plus, the focus is not just on Dean and then Sam dealing with it.  No, we have Cas, luci, Jack, the icky sheriff girls, Mary and Fake Bobby, the AU people and everyone else ''dealing with it'', unlike season three where Dean was going to hell but was still quintessentially Dean and a freaking out Sam who didn't want to lose his brother.  We didn't lose the hurt/comfort scenario and we didn't lose the jewel.  Because Dean was still Dean, just in peril.
Instead of sleepy towns, and sharing a room at a motel somewhere, we now have the insufferable bunker with separate lives.  The Old Supernatural is dead and gone and will probably never return.  And that is because you created the unnecessary division.  And when rogues entered fandom, carrying destiel banners, they realized nobody was really listening to them so they started carrying other banners like ''WaywardSisters'', ''GenIsMyQueen, ''DanIsMyQueen'' and ''Dean Winchester''.  They were pretending to be DeanStans.  They worked tirelessly and created the division while stupid stans were fighting over nothing in fandom.  Sure, the hellers ruined fandom.  But both stans helped.
I am a bibro, because I am not petty enough to fight over which guy is more awesome and who is getting more lines of dialogue.  I observe, without prejudice, what seasons work and why they did.  I like both Js equally.  I get irritated with Dean sometimes.  I get irritated with Sam sometimes.  Sometimes Jensen annoys me.  Sometimes Jared annoys me.  Does that mean I hate them?  NO.  It just means they did something I didn't like.  Am I going to flip out over it?  No, I will just hope it never happens again and more on.  Especially when stans act like the J's mothers.  Stop trying to rescue the boys, from an opinion.
I remember a fan saying once, in a YouTube comment section, that she hated how Jensen chews gum during his panels.  Not the best reason to hate someone.  Maybe the chewing was really annoying for some people to watch.  Maybe she was looking for a fault.  Maybe she was trolling.  Another time a fan said that she didn't like how Jared always says ''without further ado''.  All of the above I mentioned previously apply here too.  Both observations seem petty.  The respective stans flew into actions:
Excuse me, are you perfect?
Do you have a problem with his breathing too?
Why are you being so petty?
There, there.  I am sorry his existence irks you.
Here is what will happen because of this outburst, instead of scrolling by and ignoring the offender.  The offender might have been making an observation and not genuinely hating the guy.  She will now.  She will hate him and his fans.  You are hurting his reputation.  Others reading the exchange will become disillusioned, because ''that section of the fandom is so problematic''.  They will lose respect in the actor and his fans.  One stupid comment and instead of ignoring it, you have a meltdown.  Meanwhile, there is only gushing going on, on a Misha video.  Despite the fact that Misha has such a negative personality, his fans stand by him and gang up collectively on anyone who might ''hurt'' Misha.  So they are barricaded in their little fandom.  Yes, they are toxic.  But at least they have unity.  Shame on you lot.  The bibros are trying to keep this fandom together and keep Misha and his hellers at bay.  And here you are, making matters worse, because you dont know how to behave, treat each other with respect and treat the other J and his character with tolerance.  Shame on you.

Luxury Goods Market Competitive, Regional, And Global Industry Forecast to 2028
The epicenter of the pandemic, China tops the ranking of wealthier people. It has more wealthy people than the U.S., states Credit Suisse Report on Global Wealth. It also mentions that the Asian country has 4.4 million millionaires. They make the world's top 10% of earners.
The global  luxury goods market size   is projected to reach USD 352.84 billion by 2027, exhibiting a CAGR of 4.6% during the forecast period. It stood at USD 316.16 billion in 2019 and USD 257.26 billion in 2020. Heightening luxury goods consumption by wealthier people worldwide will stoke the market growth, suggests Fortune Business Insights™, in its report, titled, “Luxury Goods Market, 2021-2028”. According to the data published by Oxfam International in 2020, 2153 billionaires are present worldwide. These billionaires are wealthier than the total of 4.6 billion people altogether. Moreover, in this pandemic crisis, rich people have gotten richer. Forbes reported that more than 22000 billionaires have collectively made $1.9 trillion in the year of crisis.
This rise in wealth is spent by these wealthier people in the name of luxury brands and luxury goods. For them, the quality and brand of the product are of higher importance than the price. These consumers are willing to pay for premium products as they offer them innovative and richer experiences that make them spend on these luxury goods lavishly.
COVID-19 Impact
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a severe economic downturn, impacting industries and businesses in a variety of ways. Companies and industries worldwide were shut. The lockdown led to the cancellation of several fashion-related shows. Due to travel bans, luxury goods that are purchased from airports, cruises, and duty-free shops were also affected. This all impacted the market growth negatively.

 Drivers and Restraints
Rising Demand for Sustainable Products to Promote Market Growth
The new trend of sustainable products is making its mark in the luxury business. Leathers made from plants and fruits, such as pineapple are used to make jackets, shoes, and handbags replacing the use of animal leather.
Top luxury goods manufacturers, such as Prada signed an agreement with Credit Agricola Group to lower the usage of water and electricity. It is using safer raw materials to manufacture its products. It also promotes the usage of regenerated nylon. Such sustainable measures taken by these companies will benefit them in the longer run due to the current climatic crisis around the world and thus these environment-friendly initiatives are expected to fuel the luxury goods market growth.
On the flip side, the availability of second-hand products and their dupes are negatively affecting the market.
Regional Insights
Europe to Hold Leading Market Position Stoked by Presence of Various Luxury Brands
The European market stood at USD 103.86 billion in terms of the luxury goods market share in 2019. It’s due to the presence of a large number of luxury brands in this region. As per a report by Savills Global Luxury Retail 2019 Outlook, London was on the list of top cities globally as it accounted for a total of 9.6% of the global luxury store openings in the year 2018. Paris was on number four in this list. This is positively promoting the luxury goods market in this region.
The North American region is also making its presence as it is the home to a larger number of wealthier people and self-made entrepreneurs. A report by Billionaire Bonanza -2020 mentions that the number of billionaires in this region has increased over the years. In the year 2020, it reported 614 billionaires. In the U.S., people are highly inclined towards luxury items, especially fashion and accessories. Also, due to their wider availability, it is easy for people to use them, and thus it's making the market flourish in this region.
The Asia Pacific region, especially China's luxury goods consumption, is high. Last year, a U.K.-based luxury brand Burberry opened its first retail store in Shenzhen.
