How to Care For Wooden Rolling Pins Your wooden rolling pin will last a lifetime if properly cared for. TIPS: 1. DO NOT leave it in standing water- this causes the wood to warp, bow and crack. if the rolling pin has metal components, it could rust. 2. If you have stuck on dough, use a bench scraper while holding the rolling pin on the counter at an angle. Scrape down the side, rotating until all the residue is removed. 3. Scrub it clean - when you are done using the rolling pin, immediately wipe it down with a damp. lint-free cloth. 4. DO NOT use soap! Soap strips the wood of it’s natural oils shortening the life span of the rolling pin.

5. DO NOT put it in the dishwasher. The heating cycle dries out the wood and the wash cycle could overly soak it. 6. Dry thoroughly. DO NOT store your rolling pin without drying it first. Use a towel to completely dry the rolling pin before storing. 7. Oil the rolling pin. Why? Because it will increase the longevity of the rolling pin and will prevent cracks. Dab mineral or butcher oil onto a lint-free cloth and rub into rolling pin. NOTE: The picture is not mine.

This beautiful Paisley embossed rolling pin from @embossedpin is not only so stunning you'll want to keep it on display (no junk drawer designation here!) but the solid beech wood cleans easily and works on even the softest, most finicky dough. I tried it on my mom's shortbread recipe (notorious for getting stuck in cookie cutters) and the design imprinted cleanly and there was almost no cleanup - simply using a pastry brush to clean off the flour and a quick wipe with a damp sponge and it's good to go again!
