Bittern Crook & Walking Stick (2021) This bittern is carved from ash using all hand tools. It is coloured with wood stains. The bird head is finished with mat acrylic varnish and the exposed ash and hazel shaft are finished with danish oil and beeswax.

First up in the other makers and small businesses I want to give a shout out to is my friend Lisa @cottagecoppicing I mean look at this fairy mansion! As an adult I totally want it, as a kid I would have lost my mind and thought it was the coolest thing ever! Her work is really really lovely and she also does amazing more behind the scenes stuff coppicing an actual woodland here in South Wales. Which is absolutely fascinating and one of those old crafts we really need to keep alive! Reed Bunting thumb stick (2019) & Bittern crook (2020)

These two carvings of wetland birds, a common bunting and a bittern, the UK’s rarest heron species, are both mounted on hazel shafts. Both are carved by hand using knives and wood gouges. The bittern is carved in ash and the reed bunting in lime.

Anon asked how to make clothes for crochet Iorveth, so I thought some of you might want to know how to undress an elf he looks without armour ;)

First, you see the body and armour separate. I worked the whole armour in one piece, except of his scarf-belt. I got the badges on etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/524527830/reserved-listing-iorveths-badges And for sure @soukyan will make you another badge if you ask him! It´s just the best pace to get elf-badges. Roche would buy those!

The back of his armour has a “V-cleavage”, so it´s easier to get it off and on. Just in case he wants to wear pajamas... I started with grey, after some rounds changed to brown for the leather vest. I added some extra rounds in grey at the bottom for chainmail, including some double and treble crochets to make it look “uneven”, then I added the orange/red on the backside and at last the green for his gambeson.

The last picture shows the armour “inside out”. For the collar I can absolutely not give a pattern, because I added it “freestyle”. I actually have no idea how I made it ;)
