Here's everything you need to know about the tariffs. Why they're happening, why now, and what to do as a lowly little peasant with no power. First off, you need to know that it has nothing to do with bringing manufacturing back to the US. Tariffs are happening because the US empire is crumbling. Basically Trump is doing the work of the financial and tech elite who are trying to claw their way back into the center of global finance. How? By reasserting dominance by state-backed protectionism. Really since the 70s, the US has been the global reserve currency because of a deal that we made with OPEC. That deal said that oil would be priced exclusively in US dollars and that oil profits would be reinvested into US assets and in exchange that would get US military protection and weapons. This petrodollar system let the US run massive deficits without crashing the currency. This artificial dollar demand meant that we could print money infinitely. Waging wars, tax cuts, bailouts, without worries of immediate inflation. Meanwhile, all that oil profit that was being funneled into the US economy meant that we could keep interest rates low, feed all these speculative bubbles, and support stagnant wages with increasing consumer debt. But quite possibly the most important thing this did was give the US incredible power on the global stage. We could discipline and control entire nations through access to the IMF and World Bank or sanctions. This is how we have destroyed or stunted the development of socialist nations across the world. But now that system is unraveling. China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Iran are de-dollarizing. They're trading oil and other currencies, they have alternative payment systems, and they're rapidly dumping US assets. If the dollar loses its reserve status, the US loses its exorbitant privilege, the ability to spend without consequences and bully others through financial dominance. How the US and US capitalists are trying to reconstitute their hegemony, and that's where the tariffs come in. Tariffs are a power play to shield the US from the consequences of its own decay. Through tariffs, trade policy, and military threats, the US government is trying to force the world to play by the rules of American tech and financial institutions. This new strategy has a goal to make US tech the infrastructure for the global economy. If we can't rule because of oil and debt, we can try and rule through cloud storage or payment facilitation or surveillance infrastructure. The government wants US companies like Apple, Google, Stripe, PayPal, or MasterCard or whatever be indispensable nodes in the circuits of global commerce. These tariffs also punish other countries like China or India or the European Union for passing data privacy laws, anti-monopoly rules that cut into the profits of US tech companies. The US is both protection but also coercion, make them both back off and pay up. So will it work? Probably not. But that doesn't mean you're not going to feel the effects of it. Higher prices and more instability are going to become the norm. So what do we do? The biggest thing is to reduce consumption wherever possible. The less you feed the beast, the less it feeds on you. Cut off US companies from your data and your dollars. Delete the apps, quit the brands, starve the machine. Build solidarity networks. Support your friends materially and emotionally. Strengthen the relationships that capitalism has hollowed out. Join a union, join a community organization, join a mutual aid group. Broaden your relationships into your larger community. And definitely join a political party that isn't the Democrats. Remember, AOC and Bernie won't save us. We save us. I wish there was more we could do right now, but that's at least stuff we can do right now.

I think the weirdest thing leninists on here do is try to determine whether a group is a revolutionary subject by how moral they are. For most of the Chinese Civil War the PLA was (in terms of manpower) principally composed of literal bandits who had been (to various degrees of success) reformed by the cadre within the PLA. There's a reason why they had to produce a pamphlet which stated "don't rape women or steal shit." The Russian Revolution was made possible in large part because of the Cossacks! The Cossacks were not nice people - they were the force of state repression!
Moralising does not really have a place in the formation of a vanguard party, clearly!
#it's genuinely so baffling to see supposed Marxist-Leninists moralising revolutionary forces and classes#do you think peasants were super moral people who treated their wives well and had ethical childcare?#do you think factory workers never used slurs or hit their wives?#do you think the veterans of WWI were somehow not imperialist soldiers?

América Livre

DeviantArt - Weasyl - InkBunny

ENGLISH "America" doesn't just mean the US; but it's this continent itself! Now many Latin-Americans are finding out what our countries mean to the imperialists. We need to know that they only see us as servants and that they aren't going to help us. Let us exalt the Great Motherland of Latin America and help each other as a family. Thus I wanted to say in this drawing Free America! I like to put South upwards. In this picture, the maned wolf shows the indigenous peoples of Latin America, who are the original owners of this land and who take care of our forests; the black cat represents the black people who live here, who brought their ancient culture to our modern culture; and the rabbit is in the place of the peasants, who produce our food and who fight against large farmers who cause forest fires. I don't know quechua, but I searched in books and dictionaries to write "qispi Amirika". If you speak quechua and I made any mistake, please let me know!

So, I was watching the Stanley Tucci show about Italian cooking finally, and this factoid was presented about the Venetians and the role of the doge, which means “duke” or “leader”.
I did find articles comparing the current set of criminals occupying the WH at the moment to this office. Mostly favorably or with a “wait and see” approach. They’re obviously not as concerned about the loss of basic human rights and scapegoating of disenfranchised minorities.
It’s the same concept, using a goofy acronym:
But what may have put the maritime powerhouse on the road to permanent decline was that starting in the early 14th century, the Venetian state began to nationalize trade. State-organized trading fleets began to monopolize the Republic’s commerce, and individuals still wanting to take part in overseas trade were hit by punishing taxes. The end result was that long-distance trade became the sole province of the most powerful nobles.
And there you have it. They’re doing it right out in the open.

guess who just wasted 2 hours drafting and deleting about a dozen text messages to their corporate boss who acted all sad and pitiable about being asked to pay them about $300 extra for two weeks worth of grueling overtime in the summer heat doing the full work of a barn manager while being paid like a teenage stable hand?

i tried watching the netflix a:tla live action and got so frustrated that i could only make it through 1 episode before i decided "fuck this" and started rewatching the cartoon from the first episode
anyway that led to me writing this in my notes app while half-asleep in bed last night

#i know everyone says taigen is zuko because “HONOUR!!!!” but personality-wise taigen is way more like sokka#loud. fragile ego. hard worker. insistent on coming up with a rational plan despite getting involved in shenanigans anyway.#in contrast mizu is much more like zuko. pouty. angry and emo. single-minded and OBSESSED (with vengeance rather than capturing the avatar)#plus zuko and sokka are very much alike in the same way mizu and taigen are alike#but obviously theyre not 1-to-1 parallels. mizu is less privileged than taigen. which is the opposite for zuko (prince) and sokka (peasant)#but STILL#and ringo is aang that much is very obvious#akemi as ty lee because manipulative and using her looks and femininity and playing up her naivety to get what she wants#also akemi and ty lee both want freedom and independence despite being born into prim&proper high class society#but unlike ty lee akemi is forced into marriage anyway. so it's kinda like ty lee being forcibly put into azula's position of power#but unlike azula who uses intimidation akemi still sticks to her guns (that being her feminine wiles)#fandom.rtf#shut up haydar

The core insight of Marxism - that capitalism creates the industrial worker, and concentrates them in specific places, thus creating the necessities for an organised working class movement that eventually overcome it - proved to be false, at least in those places he identified (France, Germany, Britain). The workers movement failed to overcome capitalism. Successful marxist revolutions almost universally had a lot more in coming with the Jacobin revolutions of a century before them than they were produced by the organised mass of industrial workers. In the meantime, Marxist progressivism and belief in the inherent progress of industry as a path to socialism was socially, ecologically, and politically massively destructive. Let's not revive that teleology now.
#obviously maybe there is something to the sort of Maoist salvaging of this which identifies the industrial working class here as exploiters#and the industrual working class of the global south will cause socialism#but I don't think so - I don't believe much in the industrial worker tm#the peasant maybe but that class is being slowly hollowed out#I think that maybe Hardt and Negri are onto something with The Mass as a revolutionary subject but I need to read more there#yes obv this is in response to txlletale

american economists will do anything to call as many people as possible middle class. ive seen some measures go straight from "poor" to "lower middle class" so they can avoiding even saying the word "worker." it's a great way to try and convince everyone that they're a potential business owner so that they side with policies that benefit million-dollar megacorps and real estate cartels because it's "good for business"
#im late to a very mild discourse but basically “middle classes” are more specific term if you're doing a proper marxist analysis#refers to petty bourgeoisie peasants and other groups who share interests with both owners and workers#which tbf is a lot of Americans in that anyone who owns a house or has a retirement plan technically has a stake in the market#but i still think the line between working and middle is much higher income on average cuz most people r still wage laborers#although in general framing class as just income is how liberal analyses ignore/obfucscate the real dynamics at work
