I've been re-reading Worm and God the part starting with Coil bombing the mayoral debate and ending with the heroes coming for Taylor in school (or Noelle's death, if you're picky) is such an insane run of arcs. Just banger after banger after banger.

It's got everything; Taylor being blinded, Coil pretending to free Dinah, Taylor fighting her way out of Coil's trap, the Undersiders thinking she betrayed them, Coil finally biting the bullet and Dinah going home, and then boom! Noelle time, and everything that comes with it!

It's by far my favourite part of the book. I honestly think Gold Morning is the only thing that can compare to it. It's an absolutely insane decision to have the two cathartic things we've been building to since before Leviathan (Dinah being freed and Coil exiting stage right) happen in the middle of that shitstorm, and even more insane to make them work so well.

2012 Brockton Bay Pride Parade

Undersiders float: Lily and Sabah, with Brian there as an ally to drive. Lisa had better things to do (though she begrudgingly helped fund the whole thing), and Rachel is off-world with the Heartbroken.

Wards float (directly behind Undersiders): just Vista (and Aisha 🤫). She's staring daggers at Lily's back.

Faultline's Crew float: Faultline (traded out the usual lime green and neon pink costume for a rainbow one), Elle (wearing her normal costume but with lesbian flag shoelaces), and Gregor (wearing trans flag short shorts and a fishnet shirt). Gregor is spraying the crowd with HRT slime, and is having more fun by far than anyone else.

Wish Taylor got to hang out with more people. Just shoot the shit with some friends. Like that one time Taylor took Aisha and Alec on a walk and put maggots in Valefor's eyes but instead of violence they were just walking around Brockton fucking around. Doubly so if it was people she had no business hanging out with. Taylor in an arcade playing pinball with Faultline and the rest of her crew are also there. Parian and Foil dressing up Taylor up in fancy dresses that she would have no business wearing unless they insisted. Like I realize Taylor would absolutely hate her but her shooting the shit fucking Bakuda would be utterly amazing. 2x for String Theory.

Taylor joined the Undersiders mostly because she was looking for community right? and she barely knew the others she was just looking for ANY sort of community. what if shed joined one of the other groups in town instead. and i was trying to think how that would work bc like she has such strong ideological objections to them, stronger than she had to the undersiders so she cant even do the fake-joining lie, like she cant join e88 or the abb or the merchants or coils main group. i thought about the hero groups too and like obviously i have wards taylor ideas but thats separate, and she takes her secret identity seriously so even if new wave accepts non-family she wouldnt join them. who does that leave?

and i realized there is one local group that is used to dealing with outcasts like her, and has ambiguous enough morals that i think taylor would be okay joining them under the right circumstances or with the right rationality, and god. can you imagine?

The yuri angel has reminded me that Faultline and Labyrinth are pretty close in age. Do you think they explored each other's bodies? Did the rest of the Crew kick Elle out post-GM for being too loud?

genesis has been disinvited from the Villain Halloween Party because her costume was just a summoned form shaped like a Dracula and everyone agreed the biological cape and flared collar was really upsetting to look at.

gregor the snail seems to be heavily based on kafka's metamorphosis. but did wildbow intentionally just make a kafka guy? how much does gregor from the metamorphosis influence the content of gregor from worm's character? or is he just supposed to be a literature fan? did he read kafka after arriving on earth bet?? i am so curious about wildbow's creative process specifically for gregor. what does it mean that he is a literature guy? does kafka specifically draw him in because he is just like that?? is it because he has little else to do but read? is it just because wildbow wanted his name to be an on-the-nose reference to the story he (and his attitude to being a case 53) was based on? was he even based on the metamorphosis? did he come up with gregor the snail and then he was like 'oh and i will name him after the vermin man'?? why is he a snail?? what does it mean????
