Sorry About The Spider-Man Acronyms: A Guide for the anon @hawkogurl got, or anyone else who needs it. This is only a small selection of Spidey media, but it's the ones that are commonly referred to in shorthand like this.

Movies:

SM1, SM2, SM3: Spider-Man movies directed by Sam Raimi, starring Tobey Maguire.

TASM, TASM2: The Amazing Spider Man movies directed by Marc Webb, starring Andrew Garfield.

MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe.

ITSV, ATSV, BTSV: Into, Across, and Beyond The Spider-Verse animated movies.

TV shows:

TNAS: Spider-Man The New Animated Series (2003). People mostly forget this one exists.

TSSM: The Spectacular Spider-Man (2008). Sometimes written as SSM.

USM: Ultimate Spider-Man (2012).

MSM or MSM 2017: Marvel's Spider Man (2017).

Comic series titles:

ASM: The Amazing Spider-Man. Sometimes written as TASM.

SSM: The Spectacular Spider-Man. Sometimes written as TSSM.

WSM or WOSM: Web of Spider-Man.

SM/DP: Spider-Man/Deadpool.

USM: Ultimate Spider-Man.

SM2099: Spider-Man 2099. (Miguel's origin series.)

Frequently used comics universe numbers:

616: The main Marvel comics universe, including ASM, SSM, WSM, and virtually every mainline comic since the sixties.

1610: The "Ultimate" universe, including USM, launched in 2000 and closed in 2015. Miles Morales' home universe.

65 or Earth-65: Spider-Gwen's home universe.

MC2: An alt future universe where Peter's daughter is Spider-Girl.

6160: The... new alt future "Ultimate" universe just opened in 2024. I still don't know what's going on there.

Other random acronyms you'll see:

SM PS4/MSM, MSM2: the Marvel's Spider-Man games from Insomniac.

OMD: One More Day, the name for the 2007 story arc which broke up Peter & MJ's marriage, among other changes.

BND: Brand New Day, the comic arc immediately after OMD. OMD/BND are really two halves of the same whole, so you'll see people use them interchangeably.

KLH: The Kraven's Last Hunt storyline.

TCW: The Child Within storyline.

JMD: J. M. DeMatteis, a comic writer who did both Kraven's Last Hunt and The Child Within.

Okay so I’m a relatively new fan of Harold and trying to get into the fanbase but man these acronyms are A Lot….. seeing USM and MSM and SSM and JMD and WOSM……. my dude I am lost……. one crumb of guidance I beg you……….

So a lot of the time if it’s acronyms relating to the names of comics writers, I am not helpful. But here is what I can tell you

The live action universes that feature Harry are going to be referred to as the Raimiverse (the original trilogy with Tobey Maguire) and either TASM or the Webbverse, used interchangeably, to refer to The Amazing Spider-Man movies starring Andrew Garfield)

To my knowledge, whenever someone is referring to comics under the name The Amazing Spider Man, that’s going to be called ASM instead of TASM. TASM is for movies, ASM is for comics.

There are more animated series than I can count but the ones referred to most often in here are TSSM, The Spectacular Spider-Man featuring Josh Keaton and James Arnold Taylor as Peter and Harry, USM, Ultimate Spider-Man featuring Drake Bell and Matt Lanter as Peter and Harry respectively, and MSM or MSM 2017, Marvel’s Spider Man, featuring my beloved Robbie Daymond and Max Mittleman as Peter and Harry respectively.

Confusingly, MSM is also used to refer to the current insomniac game series, though they are often referred to with some variation of the word insomniac to differentiate them and keep the tags organized. However, if something is referring to MSM 2017 it’s almost always referring to the show and if it’s MSM2 or MSM2023 in my experience it’s almost always the game. Yes, this is confusing.

Just as confusing is the fact that despite SSM is used to refer to the spectacular spider man comics and separate them from the show similar to ASM, USM is the acronym used for both the show and the comics in most instances I’ve seen. So you’re just gonna have to use context clues. Most things referencing a comic are usually going to include issue numbers which helps.

Comics arcs that commonly have their own acronyms are OMD, aka One More Day, and TCW, aka The Child Within. Sometimes you’ll also see KLH to refer to Kravens Last Hunt but that’s not nearly as relevant to Harry so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

There’s also TNAS, The New Animated Series which came out near the release of Spider-Man 2002 and is intended to continue it, but because it’s kind of terrible you’re not gonna see it often. The 90’s animated series is much better but has no acronym and will usually be specified as specifically the 90’s Animated Series.

I believe WOSM is simply referring to the World Of Spider-Man but I could be wrong. (Edit: I was wrong, it’s Web Of Spider-Man. Everyone say thanks @theopolis)

I know JMD is referring to a specific comics writer but I’m not even confident of the name of the top of my head. Because I’m not terribly proficient in the comics quite yet, I’m probably gonna ask @oliveroctavius and/or @theopolis who are far more familiar with them than I am for that and any other comics acronyms I’m missing and I hope they don’t mind the tag.

I have no idea why people who never had anything to do with scouting always feel so entitled to comment on our movement i swear

I'm a polish scout but will comment on this anyway - gender separation in scouts has been an american thing, pretty much exclusively.

most countries have just one main scouting organisation, typically recognised by wosm (world organization of scout movement) and some smaller ones, local or religious ones. differences among scouting organisations are mostly to do with history, approach and religion. like, france has different organisations for atheists, denominations of christians, muslims and so on. poland has 2 major ones, one contemporary and the other based on scouting before the second world war. it's america that's weird, having one for boys and one for girls, and royal rangers, but they're somewhat small.

guiding has developed alongside scouting since the beginning, and cub scouts and rangers (kids younger than scouts and older scouts respectively) are pretty much always coeducational. it's only troops for 10-13 year olds that are commonly separated by gender, but not always.

boys scouts of america accept girls into their ranks for years now, as they can't afford to be picky. see, what we scouts from outside of us consider bsa to be is a cautionary tale. to not get involved with fundamentalists and stay vigilant, to not tolerate pedophilic behaviour from leaders and report that shit swiftly and decisively. the rebrand to "scouting america" seems to be a desperate attempt to separate boys scouts of america of this unfortunate legacy.

finally, because people refuse to accept that; scouting isn't conservative or even necessarily patriotic in the strict sense. it's a youth movement meant to help young people grow up. the scout method (based on work in small groups, leadership roles, accountability, positivity, responsibility and such) hasn't changed in years but our values have (though it depends on your organisation, leaders and troop obviously). inclusivity is more important now than some outdated ideal of masculinity, and the name change is supposed to reflect that.

So, be me, live on the coast of MS. I'm driving somewhere stupid to do something I hate, and naturally, I fiddle with the radio a bit during a red light. On comes this fucker (103.1 WOSM if memory serves) so fucking old you can hear his skin rustling. He was talking about that plane that crashed with a helicopter. You know what Shithead thought? First thing that comes to his mind is DEI.

60+ people just had the worst day of their lives, and this dumb fucking baboon thought the best course of action was to blame some hypothetical disabled air traffic controller. For all he knows, this could be a very healthy, white cis man that made a genuine mistake (possibly not even that). Then someone in his little C Spire live chat pointed out that, in fact, the helicopter was 300 feet above where it should have been *fucking obviously*. This mans said he's done this shit before, and somehow in his aviation training, somehow he didn't fucking know that planes shouldn't be anywhere near helicopters. Talking about DEI this and DEI that. Like he actually cares. Best case scenario, he's just ableist. Let's be honest though, he's just a racist sexist piece of shit.

His first instinct in a massive tragedy was blame a group of people who are already going through it, the people who work at that radio tower as well as minorities in general.

Here are things to say when you find a shithead like Shithead irl: his main argument was that "people with any kind of disability shouldn't be in any job where if they fuck up someone dies." That's being charitable. For one, you don't just get into these jobs. This shit requires months of training. If you couldn't do it, you would have been filtered. Simple as. In general though, this is a dumb argument pushed by eugenicists.

There are few jobs that you couldn't fuck up and ruin someone's life. Charge someone's card too much at the grocery store? They can't pay their car payment now. Don't cook a customer's food properly? Congratulations. You killed a family of four via ecoli. You're a bad driver? One mistake on your part could kill anyone any day now. This is a weak argument made to attack measures that aim to prevent situations like this. Their way of thinking is a slippery slope, and it wants to remove people requiring any amount of accomodation from the workforce without caring whether or not they have a means to live. Point this out when you hear it.

70 years ago on the 25th of October 1953 adult scouts from 18 countries gathered in Lucerne in Switzerland to establish a movement for adults that wanted to continue their scouting life as they had done during their youth within WAGGGS and WOSM but was also open to everyone that wanted to join. The idea was to make an international platform for former members of the scout movement, adults that were no longer active scouts but still share the spirit of the laws and promise as founded by Baden Powell. This was the birthday of ISGF as we know the organization today having World Bureau in Brussels - Belgium.

Jamboree Scout Mundial

"Deja el mundo mejor que como lo encontraste" - Baden Powell

Estimados lectores... ha llegado el momento... la experiencia más esperada del año: ¡el Jamboree Scout Mundial! Con esta experiencia abrimos la sección de Agosto 23' y les presentaré lo que fue uno de los mejores momentos que viví como scout y como persona.

Serie de experiencias 3: 25vo Jamboree Scout Mundial, Corea 2023

Lo que hice como parte de esta serie de experiencias fue participar del Jamboree Scout Mundial en Corea al pertenecer a la delegación peruana y ser guía de mi patrulla. Como patrulla, participamos de diferentes actividades relacionadas a la cultura coreana, deporte, supervivencia y objetivos de desarrollo sostenible, lo que contribuyeron a nuestra formación como personas, ciudadanos del mundo y como scouts.

La institución involucrada fue la WOSM, o la Organización Mundial del Movimiento Scout en colaboración con todas las asociaciones scout de cada país participante. En el caso específico del contingente peruano, el CMT (Equipo de manejo de contingente) liderado por nuestro jefe de delegación fue el encargado de organizarnos.

Los resultados de aprendizaje CAS que se pueden evidenciar con esta experiencia son el Trabajo en equipo, la Relevancia global y los Desafíos. Llegar al Jamboree propiamente resulta en una serie de actividades que te preparan para afrontar todos los retos con los que te vas a encontrar en el evento. Es por eso que todos estos resultados de aprendizaje no solo se evidencian pero ayudan a completar la experiencia.

Antes de la experiencia, participé en varias de las reuniones de preparación que organizó la Asociación de Scouts del Perú. Esto hizo que todos nos familiarizamos con los juegos, actividades y situaciones a las que nos podíamos enfrentar durante el Jamboree. Las reuniones que tuvimos con nuestro grupo scout San Borja 209 también contribuyeron a que los participantes nos conozcamos más y supiéramos uno del otro ya que tendríamos que convivir por dos semanas mientras estábamos en el campamento. En términos generales, todo scout y todo grupo scout tiene como objetivo estar preparado para afrontar un evento de esta magnitud y todas las actividades que realiza durante su tiempo como lobato, scout y caminante sirven para esto, así que estábamos bastante preparados.

Antes de llegar al evento, se designaron los roles de patrulla, yo tenía que ser guía, ayudante de limpieza y encargada del agua. Todos los miembros de la patrulla reciben un rol y es crucial que lo cumplan ya que nosotros mismos tenemos que hacer que el campamento funcione. Llegamos a Corea el 27 de julio pero ingresamos al Jamboree el 1 de agosto. En el camino, Salvador, guía de otra patrulla, y yo leímos el Jamboree Handbook, que era el manual que explicaba a detalle cada aspecto del evento, para tener esa información clara y poder comunicarla a los scouts que teníamos a cargo. Salvador y yo nos propusimos un objetivo antes de entrar al Jamboree y este era ganarnos el parche llamado “Dream Merit Badge”, para el cual teníamos que cumplir ciertas actividades obligatorias y opcionales. Además, también teníamos en mente cumplir con otras actividades en donde podíamos conseguir parches especiales y únicos. Es por esto que armamos un horario donde colocamos qué haríamos cada día para cumplir con nuestra meta.

El Jamboree se desarrolló en la isla de SaeManGeum en Buan, Corea. Fue ahí donde acampamos por 8 días con tropas de todo el mundo y pudimos intercambiar experiencias culturales y aprender de muchas personas diferentes al compartir experiencias significativas. Ser guía de la patrulla también aportó mucho a la experiencia y me permitió conocer mucho más a mis amigos.

Lo más relevante de esta experiencia fue participar del Jamboree propiamente y vivir tanto en tan poco tiempo. He experimentado situaciones que nunca imaginé vivir y todo esto ha contribuido a aumentar experiencias de vida inigualables. Me he permitido crecer como persona y afrontar situaciones que me han ayudado a consolidar diferentes aspectos de mi vida.

Lo más difícil de esta experiencia fue el hecho de que nos tuvieron que evacuar del campamento debido a las condiciones climáticas. Esto generó que sintiera como si no hubiera vivido al máximo cada día del evento. Me dejó un sentimiento extraño porque la experiencia terminó de una manera muy abrupta y tuve que dejar el campamento y el evento que había estado esperando desde hace 3 años. Algo que también fue difícil fue tener que dejar a mis amigos luego de haber convivido por varios días juntos.

Si volviera a tener esta experiencia, lo que modificaría en mí sería mejorar mis habilidades de liderazgo para poder ser una mejor guía para mi patrulla. Siento que hice un buen trabajo pero siempre hay espacios para mejorar. Lo que potenciaría de mi entorno sería el empeño que las personas le ponían a trabajar en equipo para mejorar el campamento. Un mejor trabajo pudo haber mejorado mucho la situación.

Also happy thinking day/founders day to my guiding and scouting family around the world. It may not be what we’re used to, but for me this year our promise holds more meaning than ever- I promise that I will do my best. We’re in a pandemic, unprecedented times etc etc, and things are hard. Just because you’re expected to be as functional as normal doesn’t mean it’s as easy as normal, you can only do your best and that’s okay. We could all do with helping others, especially now when even a smile or a simple act of kindness goes so far. Happy thinking day everyone and I can’t wait until we can all start guiding and scouting again
