Hi, hello,

My brain craves attention from my peers, like i am compliment-horny, not action just attention.

Ever since I rid myself of social media (aside from tumblr, that doesn't count) I noticed that in myself. I was never big on social media, but damn it was a quick way to sate that craving. Post a picture with the right hashtags, do a life stream, just get some quick compliments from others. I see why people get addicted to that. I am pretty sure I managed to get out, before I actually was serious for me but the dopamine rush from that (plus the easy "entertainment" from doomscrolling) really IS dangerous. But also so deeply human? Like, would i ever ask my friends "Hey, I am feeling good about myself give me a compliment, I want an ego boost"!

No i wouldn't. Why? Because I feel egocentric and narcissistic doing that, I see myself as a bad person for doing something like that, and I am already struggling A LOT with my perception of myself. (not in a body dismorphia way, but like a moral-disphoria way??? Is that a thing?)

But like why??? Why does my brain think it is bad asking for compliments? Like what is a nice selfie on Instagram different? Why is Phishing for compliments something bad? I mean sure, the amount of times you do it is the critical factor, centering everything around yourself in every social situation: not good. But every once in a while... Wouldn't it be alright to go to your friends an ask them directly:

"Hi, hey, hello, my brain craves attention, I want an ego boost, can you give me some compliments?"
