Name: Jonquil O'Roarke
Pronouns: He/Him
Flags: Gay Man
Native Canon: Wrighton: Strange Memory
Jon started off as a side character to the Wrighton roleplay, alongside my main character, his sister Holly. But as is usually the case with my characters, he swiftly grew into his own as a man with a complicated history, a kind (if cynical) heart, and a practical approach to all of the bizarre alien-based shenanigans his town endured. From chop shop to bouncer to space ship engineer, his life certainly didn't go in the direction he expected, but it's definitely been an adventure!

OCtober Day 26: Carve
Leo Carter wasn’t sure about Wrighton, at first. Even before… that, there had been all the usual jitters that came from moving to a new town and starting a new job. They lasted, perhaps, a little longer than usual; Wrighton was a fairly small town, and it’s always hard to feel at home in a small town when everyone has known each other all their lives.
It faded, eventually, though. Leo was never the quickest, or the best, but he did decently well. And despite how generally close-knit the place was, he never really felt like an outsider. As the months went by, Leo felt content with the direction his career was going.
Of course, then that happened, and Leo learned along with everyone else that “known each other all their lives” was true in more than one sense. When the crew’s memories returned, for once, Leo was the only one not to drop anything. And then when it seemed the direction his career was going was “straight up”… He began to question things again.
What was he doing here? Here, in this little town that, all right, had seemed a bit weird, but seemed to be a decent place until a whole dome grew over it. He had thought maybe it would be an okay place to settle down, but that was before he had learned most of these people had been reincarnated for thousands of years out of their longing to keep exploring, to not let the Beast be the end of their friendships. He wasn’t anything like that. He was just… Leo. He’d come from the city. And while it had ceased to disturb him, somehow, he couldn’t help feeling like this was one great big rainbow-coated sign that he didn’t belong here.
He never said as much to anyone. Looking back, he was glad he hadn’t. Because just as he was beginning to think about how to ask to be transferred, someone said something.
Leo didn’t even know the person. It was a woman, in the market, and she wasn’t even talking to him. Leo was choosing tomatoes to buy when two women walked through, and he heard one of them say, “I’m not sure where he came from, but what difference does it make? He’s settled in, Binky likes him, that’s all I need.”
Leo very nearly saved himself from dropping the tomato he was holding, but failed at the last moment. He’d no idea who any “Binky” was, but apart from that, the woman may as well have been talking about him. But it reminded him of something else, too. Shortly after the Broadcast, in the lunchroom at the Hospital, Leo had been chatting with Martha and Ray, two other interns. Unlike him, they had been there all their lives, and were trying to come to terms with the memories of who they had once been. They told Leo about the ship. How, right from the beginning, it had been something like an interstellar party van. They explored, and often they met new friends who would climb aboard, and join their journey through the stars. Neither of them knew who had been onboard originally, although they supposed at the very least, Iki must have been. Martha laughed, remembering how she- or, rather, her ancestor- had tried to cook dinner for everyone as thanks for inviting her along. There had been some sort of issue, but everything had worked out.
At the time, Leo had found it extremely unnerving to hear people talking about past lives so casually. But when the woman in the store said that, and reminded Leo of it, he felt like he was understanding for the first time. It was true he hadn’t been with them, thousands of years ago, when they had been on their journey. He was new to all of this. But all- or, at least, most- of the people here had been new, too, at one point. They had been where he was. And instead of being driven away, they had chosen to take a chance and start a new chapter of their lives.
Perhaps the dome had been a sign. Just not the one he’d thought.
Leo thought some more, over the next few days, and eventually decided that he liked his new home too much to give it up. He put aside his thoughts of asking for a transfer, and instead bought Martha and Ray their lunch one day. He didn’t tell them why; Leo was not a sappy person, at least not around most. But he wanted to do something to thank them.
He had carved out a place for himself, on the edge of this strange and wonderful town. And he claimed that place, now. It was home, after all.

I had originally intended to finish this for the birthday of my very dear friend @tigerwriter-art. Then I was offered a job in another city, and having to move and start in the new position threw my timeline wildly out of kilter, resulting in this being almost a month late. But I was determined to see it finished!
Tiger, you are an amazing person, and you've stuck with me through the good times and the bad. Together we've told countless fun and engaging stories, and you never cease to impress and entertain me with how fabulous of a writer you are. Here is just a small sampling of your awesome characters in (belated) honor of your special day. Much gushing under the cut.
Qlu- The aaracockra tailor NPC from the Temphere campaign. I thought about drawing Hush, but we always draw Hush to rep you for that campaign and I thought you might enjoy seeing someone different! Qlu has a ton of personality and passion, and is always great fun to talk to whenever he appears in a scene.
Shadowstep - The mischievous deinonychus from Naelus: The Isle of Mist. The raptors were still great characters, full of snark and big of ego. Their jovial but fiercely loyal natures were a blast to play against, and Shadowstep's gentle chiding to keep his headstrong mate Driftstone in line was always entertaining.
Leif - The OG, the first character of yours I had the pleasure of reading and interacting with, the archmage of House Jade from Medieval. It has been a joy to see this character's growth over the years, from a short tempered, antisocial loner who likes birds more than he likes people to a compassionate person who helps others as much as he is able (though still with a short temper and a fondness for birds, because it wouldn't be Leif otherwise). And of course, I had to include his black-shouldered kite Ayleth, because it wouldn't be Leif without one of his raptors.
Harper - The half-alien teenager from Wrighton: Strange Memories. Can I just take a minute to enthuse about how well you wrote this character? They read very much as a realistic, believable teenager. They understood serious, heavy situations and treated them with the appropriate gravitas, but also had times where they could be mulish and immature. It was always fun to see what they were going to do next, and their more childish point of view helped bring levity at times to my far-too-serious character from the same story.
Iskender - The sapient, super-powered, talking Turkish Angora cat from Hero City: Capital of Justice. The fluffy white cat who isn't just there for the supervillain to stroke, but IS the supervillain, and in fact the boss of the supervillains. Clearly a delightful character in concept alone, but Iske was also a blast to play against. Gleefully evil, he delighted in everything from orchestrating the break-in of high security government test facilities to shedding on the sofa just because he was told to stay off it.
Metastophelous - The demonic parole officer from Mafia 2 & 3. Technically an older character than Leif, but I wouldn't meet him until much later, lol. A 4th wall shattering, scathingly sarcastic agent of divine retribution, as like to make critical remarks about your writing as on the mafioso ghost he was in charge of. He's always got a fun take on any given situation, delights in watching his repentant sinner struggle, but also genuinely wants him to succeed and shows no such callousness towards the innocent. An enjoyably complex, nuanced take on the typical "demon who punishes sinners" trope.
Doryen - Last but certainly not least, the lizardfolk sorcerer from the Thrrasir Campaign. Often the voice of reason (considering his party members are either too idealistic for their own good or swing hard into the "neutral" end of the morality spectrum in their suggested approaches to problem solving) and yet delightfully short-tempered such to the point that it's almost a meme at this point for him to exclaim "can we just fight you already?" to monologuing villains. I look forward to seeing how he continues to grow as the campaign progresses.
Happy belated birthday, Tiger. < 3 Hope this year is a good one to you.

Speaking of OCs, though, heres a character lineup! Maybe I’ll color it one day, but I’m not sure XD;
From left to right: Corinne Bywater, Lindsey Lukas, Ginz I. Mahb Maphia, Madame Ginz, Danielle, Dossier Dame, and Itzel Romero
All these characters were created for NTWF roleplay games, and I wasn’t too creative with names the first couple of times ^^;

I drew this for my friend Killix’s birthday. It’s her OC, Velia Briar, playing her favorite videogame: Piximite! Killix is an awesome artist, and doesn’t have a tumblr, but you can find her on DeviantArt as MintyDreams7

OCtober Day 12: Garden
There was a general rule, aboard the RETON, that most obviously-unearthly things were supposed to be left onboard when the ship was parked in Wrighton. Before they took off for the first time, after everyone regained their memories, they had all agreed it was the best way to keep from disrupting the home they had all grown to love. It was a soft rule, and nobody worried terribly much about it- after all, when presented with a giant dome appearing over a town the local news had not bothered to do much but continue debating cheese tax- but everyone more or less tried to keep to it.
That didn’t mean that everyone always did.
The first time Mina Khouri broke the rule, It was an accident. The ship was docked for the summer, and Mina had been going in twice a week to keep the plants watered and cared for. Scip had told her he could do it easily on his own, but Mina liked doing it, and sometimes Velia tagged along. Not that morning, however; Mina had gone alone, and spent a little over an hour checking in on all the plants and talking a bit with Scip. One plant in particular, a lily bulb Mina had picked up during a brief detour, was positively thriving in the RETON’s greenhouse, and Mina spent extra time pruning its leaves and admiring it.
When she was in her shop later that afternoon, she found a bud on the floor next to a vase she’d been arranging, and as she usually did, she set it aside in a little water with some other cuttings to see if it would open. By the time she’d reopened the store the next morning, not only had the bud opened- revealing too late just where it had come from- but something in it must have reacted to the other plants. One of them, a carnation that had broken off the day before, had turned a brilliant shade of indigo, from flower to stem. Another clipping had wilted rapidly. Yet another had grown four inches overnight. The lily itself had opened delicately, and was floating atop the water as though nothing was unusual at all.
Mina’s first thought was, What was that woman growing outside her library?
