hello! I'm making characters who "fell though the cracks", so to speak, and where never officially diagnosed or confirmed to have conditions, but adapted or developed techniques to the point that they never felt "normal" per say, but could sort of function. The conditions I have in mind are dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, and autism. What are some techniques or behaviors they could have adapted to cope or function. I got the idea from a post on @scripteducator and need more info, please.
This sounds like a question for @scriptautistic !

Hi! I was a fire/ems dispatcher for while before I went back to school, so I'm familiar with the terminology you'll probably be using, but some of the other folks might not be. Do you want to start off with a masterpost on some general terminology? "Mutual aid" is the first thing that caught my eye that not everyone might know what that is. <3 From a writing standpoint, firefighters are usually background characters so how would you recommend fleshing them out to more than just stock characters?
Hi @write4nom,
That’s a great thought and that masterpost is coming, along with a number of others.
As to your other question. Fleshing out a firefighter should, for the most part, work as it would for fleshing out any other character. It really depends on how much time you WANT to spend fleshing out a firefighter. We’re regular people that happen to fight fire. On scene we’re essentially the same person, task oriented, and ready to go; like the military, type-A people tend to do very well in the fire service.
It’s also important to be cognizant of a significant racial and gender disparity in the fire service. In my experience, the fire service tends to be overwhelmingly comprised of CisHet white men. While I am a Cis male, I am also a person of color which can occasionally create interpersonal conflict. These types of dynamics and intersections should also be considered.
I hope this helps and thanks for asking!

I don't know if this is a happy-happy ace story, but after discovering that I was aro and ace AND agender, I realized that I didn't have "another half". I'm a whole person as I am and not halved or broken in any way. Whenever I meet people they usually ask right away if I have a BF/GF and that's a little offensive, but if people find even an ounce of the happiness I get from writing, if they find it in another person then I get it. I need to write like I need to breathe. Writing makes me whole.

“Hello! I think I saw an ask about gender neutral mom/dad terms, but are there any for aunt/uncle and sir/madam?”
———-
I thiiiiiink “nibling” is one? I’m actually not sure! For sir/madam, there’s “esteemed guest”, and other such options. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to add them on! -Ama

I know, not a research blog, but help! I'm writing a historical fiction for a class. I can't find any credible sources on the WWII 761st tank battalion's liberation of Mauthausen. I know they were liberators because my father's great uncle was IN the camp, but because the 761st was and all black unit they aren't in any of the pictures, reports, natta. My father's great uncle died last year and I can't honor his life without honoring the men who gave him a second chance to live it.
You mean a source like this? Since it’s the official website of the 761st, this is a source you can trust and one your teachers should respect. (it was the first result when I googled “WWII 761st tank battalion”!)
The website also has links to other resources, one of which brought me to the National Archives. There aren’t many results, but there are three that look hopeful. If you click through them and ctrl-f for 761, they are talked about in the articles.
Google Scholar is also a great resource for anything scholarly you need to research for classes. Look at all the results!
In addition, I know Wikipedia isn’t a great place to take information. However, it’s a great place to find sources. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, there are plenty of links to other reliable sources.
It took me less than 5 minutes to find all this! I’m not sure where you were researching, but it seems there is plenty of information out there if you know the places to look.
