For his master’s thesis in anthropology for the University of Chicago he had an idea about the structure of stories. The basic idea was that a story’s main character has ups and downs that can be graphed to reveal the stories. He said once in an interview that the thesis “was rejected because it was so simple and looked like too much fun.” I came across this while doing research for my BA thesis and thought this was interesting. It’s a different take on the structure of stories.
