Does a vampire story have to have romance?
No story has to have romance.
Except for, you know. Romance stories. Romance is definitely recommended if you are writing a romance novel.

So, you wanna be a writer?
Well, I got news for you: it's hard. It's not all sunshine and daises. I wish it was, though. Sometimes I want to sit down, write a story, publish it, and get instant cash. However, I know that it'll take work.
Although, if you are reading this: I assume you want to be an author as well. So, I shall provide the steps to do so.
Step 1: Get an idea. Look at writing prompts. Find something that you would like to spend hours upon hours of time on it. So, for example: I will be using a character named John and he is an agent that works for a secret society. Only-- the secret society deals with the super natural.
(Good blogs for prompts: promptsgalore, idareyoutowrite, suddenlyprompts, putthepromptsonpaper, novazerowriting, wonderfulwritingprompts, feverwrite, lets-get-some-ideas, picturewritingprompts and there are dozens more. Just search "writing prompts on tumblr. Feel free to add some to this list.)
Step 2: Sit down? What? You heard me, sit down and write. Find a character sheet and write your heart out. Tell the piece of paper everything you know about your character.
For example: John is 15, he's a young kid, but he's good at his job. Though, once in a while he might get tracked down by the police, but the secret society (which we shall call Plitheria, 'cause it sounds cool) normally gets him out of the sticky situations.
Step 4: It's okay to start writing chapter 5, and then focus on chapter 37, before going back to look at the 1st chapter. As long as you go back and put all the chapters in order later. It would get very confusing to read if you didn't!
So, right now John (in chapter 30) is having a battle with Unicorn. Then, I go back to chapter 1 and write about him getting accepted into Plitheria.
Step 5: What happened to Step 3? That was just helping me with my point.
Step 6: Oh crap, did we forget to plot? Go back to Step 2 and write a plot somewhere on that paper. Try and follow that from here on out.
Step 7: AHH, NOO, EDITING. Don't edit it yet! Are you done with the thing? No, not yet. But it's soo bad. Come on, Writer. Please... Nope, nope, nope. That might work for some writers, but editing while in progress might be disastrous.
Step 8: If you're like me, turn on some classical music and just write to the music.
Step 9: No writing advice is perfect. I bet you that I left out a whole lot of things that need to be in here. Just-- stick with what you got and write a little bit every day. Also, you're allowed to focus on other projects. So, if you're bored-- take a break and write about Mary. The kick-ass school teacher who sacrifices everything for her students.
...I really hope this helps. I would just writing stuff down on a piece of paper and hoping it would be good. Then again, doesn't every writer do that?

"Shitty First Drafts"
I have to say I really enjoyed this article because it made me feel better about my writing. For instance, I know that I have never been happy with the first drafts I have written, and knowing that writers don't even like their first drafts is very comforting. I never believed teachers when they said "writers aren't perfect either, they have a hard time writing as well". I like how Lamott gives us good imagery, describing the brilliant writer at her desk, quickly spitting out a polished draft in just one sitting, and how this never happens. I think this takes some of the mystery out of good writing, often it just takes a lot of will and time. Maybe some people are naturally better at writing than others, but the way Lamott describes writing, it seems that anyone that puts in enough effort, can write well. I think having read this will truly benefit my writing because the next time I sit down to write a rough draft, I'll just get everything on paper that I can, knowing that it will be shitty and I can fix it up later.

writingisnoteasy answered your post: So, now that we’re a little over a wee...
Terrible, absolutely terrible. I’m soooo behind. Heeelp me. (I’m at 12,008 words.)
No, that's not that far behind at all! You can do it! What I found helped me when I was getting behind was to just sit down and write. I wouldn't think about it, I would just try very hard to keep my fingers moving the entire time until they ached. And I would do it the next day and the next until I caught up. The trick is to try not to fall any further behind since the word count grows every day. You don't have to hit your goal until November 30th. Remember that and just write. Don't stop and edit. If you decide to change something, just add it in, don't try to rework everything for it. Just keep pushing on. Editing comes after you hit your goal. Right now you just need to get as many words down on the page as you can. Good luck!!

This blog...
Don't worry! I'm not abandoning this blog, or anything. Nothing bad is going to happen, I assure you. I'm just going to make a few announcements.
1. Only one person is running this blog. That means that one person picks out the content, one person writes the blog posts, one person finds things that are rebloggable. Guess what? That one person has school, that one person can't be on 24/7, that one person is often stressed. So, I am sorry if I don't add more stuff all that often. I'm trying.
2. NaNoWriMo. I'm doing NaNo! That means I don't have much time to do things. I am currently behind on my word count, so that means I am trying to catch up. That also means... less tumblr time. However, I will be reblogging more NaNo stuff!
3. Where this blog is going. This is for me to share my writing stuff. Which means to content will vary with the writing help. One day it might be prompts, another day it might be memes of NaNo. So... yeah. I have no idea where this is going.
4. Thank you, new followers! I never thought I would have this many! (I now have 12 and is now tumblr famous) More stuff will be uploaded!
5. What do you want to see? Want me to answer questions? More memes? Reblog writing stuff? I need to know!
Thank you for sticking with me. <3

writingisnoteasy replied to your post “Of course I don’t realize that my novel should be in third person...”
Aw... Erm, I suggest finish writing the novel, and then going back to edit it later. Because one of my friends edited his novel while writing it-- and to my knowledge he's been working on it for the last few years, and he regrets editing it.
Hmmmmm...see, the thing is, I think having it in the wrong POV is one reason I'm kind of stuck right now. Because my protagonist is currently wasting away in a dungeon with no idea what's going on in the outside world, and I really want to show what's going on, but I can't with it in first person. Maybe backtracking to the beginning is the way to get to the ending....idk -_- your url is very accurate to my current situation ;)

Yay! It's punctuation day! Let's celebrate by using proper grammar and being nice!
Dare: I dare you to write a story about the love of a semicolon, and a comma. Tag "writing is not easy" when done. This can be done in the form of a poem, script, or short story.
