Perfectionism & Burnout
As the term is coming to an end burnout is a word that keeps popping up. I'm currently in a work, stress, and health psychology class so I'm learning all about burnout. I learned I am currently dealing with burnout right now. It's a lot. I was no stranger to procrastinating but this is on a whole nother level. As a Capricorn (/s) I deal with a lot of perfectionism. So on top of the burnout, I've also been feeling guilty. I tell myself I'll just try to take a quick 20 minute power nap but it's so hard to get up if I even end up falling asleep. Most of the time I spend the 20 minutes feeling guilty and worrying myself so much I end up staying up and taking another 20 minutes and so on.
I think there's a lot contributing to my burnout. I have an autoimmune disease and other chronic illnesses which lead to a lot of fatigue and brain fog. Being neurodivergent doesn't help. I'm also taking 5 classes compared to last term when I only took 4. Throughout this burnout and the process of dealing with it, I've learned that I really need to give myself a break. I don't always need to turn in work that is A+, sometimes it's better to just turn in work and get some sleep than stay up all night reading the same essay hoping something new comes to mind. I've been talking to a lot of students that have been at WSUV longer and they feel the same way.
You really have to make time for self-care, because if you don't your body will make you make time. Burnout is something that most students go through and it's important to deal with it before you get stuck in it. Over the summer my boyfriend's parents are taking us out of the state and I'm excited to get some birdwatching in. However, I can't wait till the summer to try to counteract my burnout. We have to try to find small things to do every day. I try to get in as much backyard birding as I can. Even if it's just staring out the window as I'm brushing my teeth. You have to find ways t o give yourself little breaks daily even if you can't leave the house.
Next term, I'm only taking 4 classes so I hopefully won't have so much on my plate. I want to turn in quality work and I still am but I know taking fewer classes will give me more time and energy to work on projects. I'll also only be going to classes M-Th and I'll have Fridays off. This term I'm taking a Friday class and although it's only a couple hours, I do miss having my Fridays clear for work or catching up on schoolwork. It's important to know the warning signs of burnout before you get there. As I setting into WSU and working I'm sure I'll pick up on my warning signs bor burnout and learn more coping techniques.

Cool person on the 19 bus to WSUV—- hell yeah for giving me a pencil cause I ran out of lead before getting on bus to doctor. Bus only comes every hour so going back would’ve been hell.
They had such a style too. Pink fade hair, two cool lil braids, headphone twinies—- ahhh. Good to meet good folk.

Digital Technology & Culture epiphany
I’ve been trying for almost a year now to define art in a way that includes architecture, physical art (paintings, sculptures, mark-making), and writing (stories). Today in DTC class, our teacher (college professor to be technical) asked “what is art” (wasn’t at all surprised that the room’s only creative writing child was the first hand in the air) and completely out of nowhere I answered “Art is the manifestation of creativity.” The room was in silent awe for a minute, and no one disputed it (though they added that ‘since art and beauty are in the eye of the beholder, audience takes precedence over author & intention’). After a second’s blank shock, I realized this was perfect. Later in class, our teacher was talking about different cultural contexts such as technology, and he said “technology is the manifestation of creativity enabling media/art, or enabling the manifestation of creativity.” This blew the minds of the young adults (and a few older adults) in the room, and I thought it was awesome so I made a couple memes for it. Hope you enjoy! It inspired me to write more stories and I enjoyed the ride home so much more. :)

Video Games and Social Justice
Sometimes homework doesn’t make me want to bash my head against the desk. These weekly 250 word or less assignments that combine social justice, diversity, and video games have been kicking my ass as a wordy English major, but in a good way. You know what I mean [wink wink].

Introduction
Hello everyone! I figured I should introduce myself before I start posting my work and reblogging. I'm a student at Washington State University- Vancouver! I'm majoring in DTC, Which stands for digital, technology, and culture! My specialty --or superpower is UX/UI Design. Ux stands for user experience and Ui stands for interface design. UX/UI designers make sure the digital products you're working on are user-friendly and look good. Within the DTC program, I am also obtaining a certificate in Social Media. I'm also minoring in Psychology. Before learning about UX and the DTC program my original plan was to major in Neuroscience and minor in Psychology. I planned on being in school for a long time because I wanted to get my Doctorate and become a researcher. However, in this economy, I need to get graduate and get into my career ASAP. Before I started at WSUV I took a bootcamp for UX foundations with DesignLab. This solidified that I wanted to go into UX so I started looking for universities that offered UX as a major. Luckily for me I already lived in Vancouver so I didn't have to travel to far. My boyfriend James was already going to WSUV too and was enjoying it so I applied and got in!
This is my second term at WSUV and I'm really enjoying it! I'm taking professors I took previously which I find helps ease my pre-term jitters because I know what teaching style to expect. This term I also got to take a Usability and Interface class. I got to learn Adobe XD which is good since my previous knowledge was in Figma. I heard Sketch was pretty similar to Figma so I'm sure I can pick it up if my job uses it. Although I'm enjoying this term, I'm happy to have a break coming up.

50 Shades of Grey || Kate Kavanagh
Tumblr media
Name: Kate Kavanagh
Age: 26
Relationship: Single (verse depending)
Sexuality: Bisexual
Job: College student
Faceclaims: Eloise Mumford
Katherine Agnes "Kate" Kavanagh is Anastasia Steele's best friend and roommate. Kate gets into a relationship with Elliot Grey, who she meets at a bar while celebrating the end of finals week with Ana, José, and Levi.
Kate and Ana met as freshmen at Washington State University Vancouver (WSUV), and have been roommates for four years. Kate comes from a wealthy family; her father, whom Christian respects for his "shrewd" and "rational" business sense, is the founder of Kavanagh Media. She has an older brother named Ethan. Kate is an aspiring journalist and was the editor of WSUV's student newspaper. After graduating from WSUV, she has an internship with The Seattle Times. Kate gave the valedictorian speech at their graduation, implying that Kate's grades are as good as Ana's (who already had a 4.0 GPA).
Before the events of Fifty Shades of Grey, Kate badgers Christian's PR department for an interview. Christian is impressed with Kate's tenacity and agrees to meet with her. Kate comes down with the flu on the day of the interview and sends Anastasia to do the interview for her.Kate is one of the few people to point out when Christian's behavior around Ana seems controlling or dangerous, and she is the only person who ever directly confronts Christian. While Kate is initially supportive of Christian and Ana's relationship, she distrusts Grey after observed marked changes in Ana's demeanor. Christian and Kate intensely dislike each other, but act civil for Ana's sake.
Kate has more experience with sex and relationships than Ana at the start of Fifty Shades of Grey. Kate lost her virginity after her high school prom; she tells Ana that she was drunk, the sex was awful, and that she wasn't emotionally ready. Kate's only serious boyfriend has been Elliot Grey.

"The gay gods have smiled upon WSUV"
I go to school at the Vancouver satellite campus of Washington State University. It's early, I'm tired, and a rainbow arcs over my school as we pull up and I get out of the car. So my tired brain's first thought is "Ah yes, the gay gods have smiled upon WSUV, and on the day of the gay club meeting as well." Thanks brain. 😂 WSUV is actually very welcoming & accepting towards the LGBTQ+ community, so I'm not surprised. I got a photo to share. 💖
