On one hand characters having their own preferences adds depth and nuance to the characters as well as dare I say enhanced replay value. On the other hand don’t bring up Dorian fucking Pavus he is a fucking outlier. And on the other other hand I bought the game and it cost 80 fucking dollars let me be gay with this man. And on that same hand, perhaps a little bit to the left, more often than not the sexual preferences of the character are not same-sex and thus lgbt folk are left with a lot less options and/or the options they do have are not as developed as the opposite sex options. (Leliana and Zev romance SUCKED compared to Ali and Morri.)
