First off: Melia's death rlly soured the relationship between Mona and Venam. Mostly due to frustration about the situation. They end up latching a bit onto Ren's words about getting stronger though.

First impression of Keta is. piss poor. Aelita is a lot more favorable but they end up getting dragged into it bc they feel so guilty about melia's own "Death" that they just fear smth would happen without them.

lol guess what they were right. Keta's death impacted them less though.

Marianette was such a similar presence to melia strangely that Mona felt at ease around her. their nickname to her was Eagle!

Meeting Anju rlly piqued their interest in getting nosy around the region. they didn't need a deep profile of everything, but things mattered at certain times, so its best to be prepared.

The Volcanion battle and Narcissa gym battle rlly hammered the guilt they feel about Nancy, disregarding her as not their mother despite their initial suspicions.

they are alone. after all. is it wrong to turn to someone for comfort, even if it may be a lie?

they feel. pity for ren. not exactly the best emotion considering Ren's internal conflict. It was probably best not to let it show though. they know that much.

In some way they become closer to ren despite this though, sharing their own skepticism to events around them aka Narcissa's play, despite showing face to help with the play.

(they don't realize this yet, but the spotlight is slowly gathering on them. im gonna have them defeat madame X. This will have consequences.)

Hello friend! A friend of mine is doing a Stargate SG-1 rewatch and lamenting the slim pickings of fic on AO3. Do you know where she can find fic that perhaps is still on some old archive of yore? Or have any recs? She's mostly interested in Jack/Daniel and Jack/Sam. Ty!!

oh my. with all the love in the world to your friend visiting us from a very different fandom tax bracket than i have ever had the fortune to participate in (those two pairings have well over 6k fics each on ao3), i'll see what i can do!

[several hours of looking around later] bad news!! not much!

most of vintage sg-1 fandom was wiped out by expired domains, struck-through livejournals, ff.net's porn ban, yahoo lists, etc. some pages are still preserved in the wayback machine for heliopolis, the massive het-and-gen archive, and area52, the slash counterpart, but with the search and directory functions pretty much toast, they're almost impossible to navigate.

fanlore has an old list of archives (including plenty of jack/daniel ones). some smaller archives might yield wayback paydirt, especially if they were hand-coded. samandjack.net is still alive!

and, hate to say it, this was peak era for ff.net and they have like 30k fics over there... but all the explicit fic is gone.

i recently learned some people are still doing het-reccers (user-submitted fanfic recommendations, LJ archive is here). i don't know if any slash equivalents are still around (and i haven't looked at this site for genuinely fifteen years, so i can't speak to the quality of recs).

some sam/jack recs of mine; some of these authors multi-ship:

nanda: her resolution series especially should not be missed and i can't stress that enough. smut and action. fics great fics across the board.

it's kind of difficult to express how popular Salr323's fics were (under a different name) back in the day. i'm told that archive servers would crash when she posted something new. low on smut, high on PINING. rec: it was admittedly 1 am but as i recall this one made me feel like i'd just seen the fanfiction mona lisa

there are quite a few multifandom wonders who cut their teeth in this fandom, including missparker (rec: a small crime)

this cassandra fraiser fic dealt me some damage: nobody dies tonight by isawet

someone who's still in touch with her please harass splash_the_cat for writing 99 sg-1 fics and then walking away without cracking 100. lots of fun little snacks in there including this one

Probably 'The Hope of Fen'Harel' (on AO3) or the scene where Solas finds out that young Ixchel is dead (here on tumblr).

the road seems too wild for mixing it with blues (Dragon Age) - literally it is a Solavellan happiest of happy endings. There are brown butter donuts.

Yes. Not infrequently.

Sometimes! I do try to write titillating smut but if it's in my longfics, it's got to be for character reasons and serve the plot. But I have more than one smut oneshot that's just there to get people hot lol.

I have had ideas copied wholecloth.

Yes! ALL of my Maximum Ride fics were co-written. Literally sending passages back and forth over *yahoo instant messenger.* It was an absolute fucking joy. Those fics are gone now though lol.

Prooooooobablyyyyyyy Haku/Chihiro. I will read absolute drivel if it's got them in it.

I WILL ABSOLUTELY FINISH MY BOTW FICS I AM WORKING ON THEM OKAY?! The one i don't think i will ever do is my young!Ixchel fic. It's too fucking sad. But it lives in my head and calls to me.

Dreamy prose, evocative horror, and really motivated plots.

I'm verbose, I have a hard time connecting scenes / passing time without it feeling like it's dragging.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

So, for fantasy languages that you have to conlang -- I think you should just write it in English. Especially if you're not making up YOUR OWN conlang and instead relying on the work of a notorious jackass. I have taken to "[[brackets and italics]]" to indicate when dialogue is happening in Elvhen. In real life languages, such as Spanish, the current movement in ownvoices communities is to include the dialogue in its original tongue, with no italics. Readers are smart. They can look it up. And they need to get used to languages other than their own without it seeming other, alien, or magical. In my original novels, where Spanish is often used, I stick with this rule.

"Come on. Let us hunt him." Lee pleaded with his father, eyeing Dean.

"Yeah, this one's a fighter. Sure would be fun to hunt." Jared smirked, making Pa let out a wheezy laugh.

"Oh, you gotta be kidding me. That's what this is about? You... you yahoos hunt people?" Dean questioned, looking at the family in disgust.

"You ever killed before?" Pa asked.

"Well, that depends on what you mean."

"I've hunted all my life. Just like my father, his before him. I've hunted deer... and bear. I even got a cougar once. But the best hunt... is human. Oh, there's nothing like it. Holding their life in your hands... seeing the fear in their eyes just before they go dark... makes you feel powerful alive."

"You're a sick puppy." Dean sneered.

"Tell me... any other cops gonna come looking for you?"

"Oh, eat me. No, no, no, wait, wait, wait, you actually might." Dean panted. Jared grabbed hold of Dean's head, keeping him in place, while Pa brough the red, hot poker close to his face.

"You think this is funny? You brought this down on my family. Alright. You want to play games? We'll play some games." Pa looked up at his sons. "Looks like we're gonna have a hunt tonight after all, boys." Pa then looked back down on Dean. "And you get to pick the animal. The boy and girl or the cop?"

"Okay, wait, wait, wait." Dean pleaded, beginning to panic now that it wasn't him being tortured. "Look, nobody's coming for me, alright? It's just us."

"You don't choose, I will." Pa told him, placing the poker on Dean's shirt. Dean screamed in pain until Pa removed it.

"Oh, you son of a bitch!"

"Next time, I'll take an eye." Pa warned him, bringing the poker closer so it was an inch from Dean's eye.

"Alright, alright, the guy and girl. Take the guy and girl!" Dean chose, as Jared let go of his head. Pa grabbed the key from around his neck and handed it to Lee.

"Lee, go do it. Don't let them out, though. Shoot them in the cage."

"What? Thought you said you were gonna hunt them. You were gonna give them a chance." Dean said, looking at Pa confused.

"Lee. When you're done with the boy and girl, shoot the bitch too." Pa added. Lee nodded with an evil grin, leaving with his rifle in hand. "We gotta clean this mess up before any more cops come here."

Sam, Millie and Kathleen looked up when they heard the door open. They watched as Lee put the key into the panel.

"What are you doing?" Sam asked, before their cage unlocked. Millie quickly grabbed the bracket from the ground, just as Lee swung the cage door open.

"Hey!" Kathleen shouted. Millie quickly hurled the bracket at Lee just as he fired his rifle.

Dean gritted his teeth as he heard gunshots. "If you hurt my brother and sister, I'll kill you. I swear. I'll kill you all. I will kill you all!"

Pa ignored Dean's threats and headed to the door. "Lee!"

Millie limped out of the cage with her gunshot wound on her thigh, while Sam wrestled Lee to the ground. Lee tried to aim his rifle at Sam, but Sam quickly grabbed it, hitting Lee in the face with it until he collapsed on to the floor. Sam tried to cock it, but the gun wouldn't work.

"Damn." Sam cursed, throwing the rifle to the side, then turned to Millie. "You okay?"

"It's fine. It just grazed it. Dealt with worse. Come on." Millie panted, as she and Sam stepped over Lee.

"Lee!" Pa called out again, but still didn't get a response. "Jared, you come with me. Missy... you watch him now."

Jared grabbed two rifles, handed one to Pa and the pair headed to the cages, while Missy held her knife up to Dean's eye, threateningly.

Pa and Jared charged into the barn with their rifles raised. 

"Lee! Where are you? Lee!" The two paused as they found Lee, unconscious, in Sam and Millie's cage. "Damn it. Jared, get the lights."

Jared ran to the light switch, but the barn stayed dark. "They must've blown the fuses."

Pa tried the control panel, but it was broken as well. They looked around while Sam and Millie hid out of view. A thud was heard, and Pa and Jared split up. Jared looked around the part of the barn where Sam and Millie were hiding, while Pa climbed up the ladder. 

Meanwhile, Kathleen moved to a cabinet, opening it, which caused Jared to spin around. He followed the noise to the cabinet and fired his rifle at it three times. However, when he opened the cabinet he only found tools. As Jared looked around confused, Kathleen fell on top of his back, wrapping her arms around his neck and wrestling him. 

Sam and Millie peeked out from their hiding place, but were spotted by Pa, who began shooting at them. Jared managed to throw Kathleen off his back and onto the ground. Sam and Millie were able to dodge Pa's bullets, with Sam making sure to keep Millie in front of him, helping when she stumbled.

"You stupid bitch." Jared seethed as he aimed his rifle at Kathleen. Before he could shoot her, Millie and Sam ran into the room.

"Hey!" Millie yelled, catching Jared's attention, then quickly grabbed Sam by his shirt and pulled them out of the way. Jared fired his rifle at the pair, but when the siblings dodged him, he ended up shooting Pa, who fell to the ground.

Jared was shocked, but it quickly turned to anger. He cocked his gun and turned to shoot the others, but Millie grabbed it before he could. She swung her elbow into his face causing him to let go of the rifle. Millie then was able to thrust the rifle once into Jared's stomach, then twice at his face. Millie panted as she watched Jared fall to the ground unconscious.
