One Piece 1152 talk: 109 Years Back In Time

The number of times I've stood up and went "HUH" this chapter was crazy and suddenly there's so much I want to talk about help @_@

It's not necessarily a big thing to reveal but I found it funny how casually they told us that yes, Zoro really has Conqueror's Haki. At least from what I remember it hasn't been put to words- but we have seen him use Conqueror's, and what's really funny to me is how Luffy knows this and just never brings it up LMAO. Also, this rare instance of Zoro getting scolded someone else:

Bro is stunlocked, but also it's his first time hearing he has Conqueror's to begin with, and the fact that it's just "flowing out" of him is just???

On top of his usual demeanor, it's no wonder he intimidates people easily with just one look. (This also means that he's just been unconsciously using Conqueror's without an off switch since who knows how long and the fact that the Strawhats don't really give a shit about it is strangely wholesome to me idk)

Another point that stood out to me was this panel of Sanji to the left. Is anyone else finding this off-putting or is it just me? Like?? why is it there??

If it's a gag, Sanji would've just sulked like he always have when he saw Zoro's and Jinbei's latest wanted posters (similar to him in East Blue asking if he was on a wanted poster but it's just Usopp's head, seeing his own wanted poster back in Post-Enies Lobby- these are all gags; all dramatic, him on the floor etc.), but he's asking Gaban twice, like "hey, are you sure? what about me?", and there's a spotlight being shined here on Sanji's insistency at Gaban that felt unusual to me, that comes off just a bit desperate.

We know he's always looking for ways to be useful to the crew (even when he already is), and we know he's still dealing with the effects of putting on the raid suit (his whole internal dilemma back in Onigashima, wondering which version of himself does Luffy want around). Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Also what in the world 😭 In the tone of Garfield's are you /srs or /j, Luffy, is this /fr or is this /that tree from thriller bark kinda situation sgsdhjk

(I got caught off guard because in my head, there was no realm ever that Loki was gonna join, because realistically, where tf is he gonna fit on the Sunny, and also I don't see Loki as the type of guy to call someone his captain) but obviously Luffy's gonna ask Loki anyways and my hand flew to my damn mouth I was surprised LOL

It also hit me that it's been a longgg time since Luffy asked someone that. Felt weirdly nostalgic, all in all.

Putting comedic moments aside, some panels before that, Gaban gives Hajrudin the go-ahead to unlock Loki from his chains, saying that there was more to Loki's story than what Hajrudin believes.

Now the first thing that came to mind from Gaban saying this was: How come he didn't bring this up to Hajrudin before and let him hate his brother/let Loki be chained up even when he knew more than he let on?? But I gotta be honest, I don't really remember the circumstances around Loki being locked up and how Gaban was mentioned to be involved (if he was ever), so I guess?? He just never brought it up until he felt the same surge of Haki again and got reminded??? (guess I'll have to read it all back again to refresh my memory, it's been chaotic ngl lmao)

edit: Just remembered it was Shanks that was mentioned to have "captured" Loki during the whole ordeal in Aurust Castle. If when they arrived to the throne room they were met with a sight where Loki can be blamed for Harald's death, then I guess there wasn't any other explanation for it, considering (if the main perpetrator was Imu/the Holy Knights) the people responsible can disappear in an instant.

I can already see some fan theories getting proven to be right with this flashback though. Loki wasn't ever the criminal everyone thought him to be, and he didn't murder Harald to get his hands on a devil fruit. Hell, he even called that Hajrudin wanting him to retell those events a "cruel demand". Wild that it took Hajrudin 14 years or so and a whole near-invasion of Elbaf to want Loki to tell his side of the story though, I'm JUST sayin'.

And so we pop right into the flashback- WOAH HEY SHANKS BATH SCENE

Crazy. Wow. Anyways. I got hit with a second vine boom looking at Shanks' fucking arm and seeing what looks like a World Government tattoo and realizing holy shit ITS THE ARM THAT GOT EATEN BY THE SEAKING

NO WONDER HE DIDN'T GIVE TWO SHITS ABOUT LOSING IT???

Obviously there's nothing 'foreshadowing'-ish about this, but Oda's ability to build a plotline/point on top of something that was established YEARS ago to give it a new meaning never fail to impress. It's such a small detail!! But there's so many layers to it!!

"My plan was to join up with Buggy and lead a laidback pirating life" yeah okay no need to rub salt into the wound. That's totally not sad at all, knowing that Shanks invited Buggy to be pirates together with him right after Roger's execution and remember how Buggy rejected him in the rain??? yeah man. okay. Cool.

What does "Child of Fate" even mean? I tried looking into the JP version and he said 「お前は運命の子だな」/Omae wa unmei no ko dana, which, depending on the tone, could just mean "You really are a child of fate" or the translation above. Admittedly both are lost to me, idk what the hell he's trying to imply LMAO (My first thought naturally went to "huh? Like, from the D clan??" which doesn't seem likely).

This is unbearably cute btw. She just wants to see him at an eye level and wants to grow old with him, it's so cute. I want all of them to be alive by the end of the arc or so help me god

And as if one flashback wasn't enough, how about another!? A flashback within a flashback!?!?

Genuinely, going this far back in a flashback (Garp wasn't even alive this far back holy) when the giants were the most powerful in the seas reminded me a lot of Vicky the Viking for some reason. Pirates from Elbaf that greatly resembled Vikings in our reality being absolute terrors in the Grand Line just pillaging and raiding until they were the unanimous answer to the question, "What is the most frightening thing in the sea?".

I wonder what happened to make "Lowlife scumbag" King Harald turn over a new leaf to become a pacifist. Dorry and Broggy were part of the same crew as well, and when we met them back in Little Garden, they were friendly. Even in Elbaf, at the time of his death, Harald was "worshipped like a god" and got along with Shanks back in Maryjoa, dissimilar maybe to how he acted 109 years ago, when he claimed himself as a "god" after toppling over a kingdom for no reason.

Something happened in the course of 109 years to make him reflect and rip off his own horns, but that something also, probably?, is the cause of him siding with the government? Which Loki hates him for?Which Hajrudin also claimed that Loki technically did?? Idk man, Elbaf's history is unbelievably rich and I'm all here for it.

A Bittersweet Reunion.

A short snippet I wrote for Urami and Theresa, there will be a POV change from third person to second person.

Word Count: 2k+

Character: Theresa Fowler, Urami Kuga (OC), brief appearance of Debbie Kang

Content: A small glimpse on both of their past interactions, and how they grew distant. They meet up once more after several years.

"Excuse me. By any chance, are you Theresa Fowler?"

A taller junior approaches the majorette, who is conversing with Debbie Kang. The Editor-Reporter feels herself backing away a few steps with a slightly frightened expression.

"Oh, yes! How may I...."

Theresa gives a questioning look towards her biffer, before turning around to face the person who called her name. Only to look up and see a familiar face — have they met before?

"Theresa...! That's the guy that beat up Bash Johnson last term. Be careful!"

Debbie pulls down her friend for a bit to whisper, being defensive towards the older guy. The pink mullet student rolls his eyes and puts a hand on his hip, unamused.

"I can hear you, you know? Besides, it was self defense on my part. I'd never start a fight."

His eyes gaze upon Debbie, who is behind Theresa. The shorter girl squints at him as Urami gives her a deadpan expression. The baton twirler only laughs nervously.

"So, uhm. What do you need from me?"

"Do you still go for piano lessons?"

...huh?

"How... do you know that?"

That was...a long time ago. She still has her piano keyboard from when she used to play. The taller boy notices her puzzled expression, before clarifying.

"Ah, I'm sorry. The name's Urami Kuga. I believe we met when we both attended Intermediate Music Class," Theresa feels a little bit of chill down her spine, Urami continues. "We used to play together back then when we were younger.  I moved to Flackville while you stayed here."

"You.."

Gears turning in Theresa's head, as Urami proceeds to continue.

"You were probably wondering why I stopped sending replies to you. I wanted to apologize for it. I didn't mean to disappear without informing you."

It is him. Her first boy crush in the flesh. He's still alive.

Theresa feels a bit shaken, but also pleasantly surprised with a mix of irrational dread as it aves through her. Debbie could only stay silent and witness the interaction between them, slightly worried about Theresa.

"A-ami?! I thought...you were gone! I saw the news, they..."

"...Surprise, I guess? Besides, we weren't there at the time."

"I see.."

So all that worrying and feeling of loss was all for nothing...? Theresa's sour expression of bitter realisation didn't go unnoticed by Debbie, who's only growing concerned towards her friend. Theresa then raises her voice a bit and gestures to Urami, eyes furrow a bit.

"So wait...You were in Norrisville the whole time!? How come I never saw you during middle school?"

Only for the guy to wave his hand in a brushing motion and dismiss the accusation — face expressionless.

"Ah no, I transferred here last grade."

Theresa falters, posture slightly cowering as she didn't mean to burst out like that. In a moment to attempt to deflect whatever just happened, she rushes through her thinking and tries to come up with something to say.

"I-I see...How's everyone else?"

Nailed it.

"Mom and dad are still working, I live with my aunt here since it's near Norrisville High."

Meanwhile Debbie is a bit bewildered by the interaction. Her mind is like a rollercoaster for she has so many questions. From 'Why is that guy suddenly approaching?' to 'Who was this guy?' to 'What the hell happened back then?!'

Theresa finds herself speaking before thinking twice.

"O-oh I see! How about Kagami?"

"She's gone."

Ohhhhhhh she wonked it up. She totally wonked it up. Man she feels like a shoob. Awkward silence. It is stagnant. Even Debbie just kind of scooted away from...whatever the juice this is. After a beat, they both kind of garble words in order to alleviate the situation.

"I'm so sorry to hear that I didn't—" "Sorry about that I was too blunt—"

They blink and look at each other, before attempting to continue.

"No-no-no it's okay I didn't mean to be insensitive-" "Oh- uh, it's no big problem really things just happens-"

Man.

"Uh.." "...."

They just looked away from each other, feeling uncomfortable. Debbie coughs from the sidelines,  almost comically.

"Anyway.."

Theresa scratches her head a bit while Urami fiddles around with the hem of his sleeves. This is not where he thought this conversation was going. Theresa tries to continue their 'conversation'.

"I'm..I'm glad to see that you're well."

She tries to look at him in the eyes, only to be met with the sight of him looking away from her.

"..the feeling's mutual."

This is agonizing.

Urami sighs before standing straight to face her and stepping back a bit.

"I'm truly sorry that I didn't reply to you all those years," he bows down with his arms to the side — almost halfway "I should have at least informed you."

As people pass by, people are starting to look and stare while Urami bows to apologize. Theresa flails around panicking as she starts to ramble a bit.

"Oh no no! Please get up! It's okay! It's all good! It's fine..! It's...fine."

Her tone gives a hint of despair at the end. Theresa doesn't know how to process all of this. She doesn't know what to feel from this.

The taller boy raises himself,  pulling out his phone before facing her again.

"Well, I better get going,” He puts his phone back into his pocket and turns around — walking away as he passes a glance in her direction.

“Have a nice day, Fowler."

"You... too.."

They part ways, each heading to their respective classes. Theresa didn't realize she was tense and has been holding her breath. She tiredly exhales as her shoulders sag down. Then she gets turned around swiftly before getting tugged down.

"WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT?!"

Oh right, Debbie is here.

It's an awkward start. This isn't exactly how he hoped it would go, but oh well.

Urami finds himself skipping class to hang out on the rooftop. He found a way to climb up there back in 10th Grade. Detention wasn't a problem for him, honestly. The time spent there is where he gets to sleep it off, design, compose or do his homework. Most times he just kinda zones out. He knows that most of the time — the second he comes home — he'll either rest a bit and continue his projects or just straight up sleep when he has no other things that evening.

Plus, they kinda let him go since he gets quite good grades. And has a medical condition. And has some history. And does show up to group projects or practical learning. And helps out in certain activities sometimes. And not-so-secret mends clothing for Home Economics. And—

Anyway, he tends to bribe insider information about Flackville High to Principal Slimovitz so he doesn't really get a bad record. As long as he is doing well academically and does the bare minimum for his curriculum, they wouldn't have to call his guardians as much as before.

How tiring.

Better to take a nap.

"Urami!"

The girl runs basically sprints down the corridor, approaching the junior. The guy's head just peeks out from his locker to face the girl who is currently catching her breath. 

"Hey, Fowler. What's the rush?"

He raises an eyebrow as she wipes a bit of sweat from her face with her sleeve. She raises her head towards Urami and breathlessly speaks.

"Do you.. have time.. to spare?"

He blinks a bit, then takes some time to grab a few things into his bag. He clutches his backpack on one shoulder before closing his locker shut. A click sound is heard.

"Sure, what do you need?"

Here goes nothing.

"I was wondering if you and I could hang out, like old times?"

Theresa sheepishly requests as she tilts her head. All while gesturing by pressing both of her hands together in front of her. Urami hums a bit before promptly replying.

"I don't see why not. Though, are you sure?"

Perplexed, her face twists into a look of confusion.

"What do you mean?"

"People stay away from me for a reason, you know? What if they say stuff about you as well?"

"But that doesn't really matter, you know? I just want to reconnect, I want to see how you're doing and catch up on what has happened."

For a moment, Theresa can see his eyes reflected light for a bit. He lets out an amused huff as he closes his eyes, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

"Alright then."

Then, he pulls out a pen and sticky note out of his pocket —  writing down something. He folded it neatly before passing it to her.

"Bell's about to ring. Text me so we could plan it out. Don't give this number to anyone else."

He turns away from her, walking away after uttering the following words.

"See you around, Fowler."

"..Right, you too, Urami."

The grief that comes from knowing someone so well only to lose them is miserable. But when they reappear to be fine but acting like a completely different person — is harrowing.

You think you already moved on, only for those feelings to resurface. And it's quite a whirlwind because you don't want to experience the pain of losing someone you loved ever again.

However, that person isn't truly gone. They're still alive — they're still here. But everything's changed and it's messing with how you feel and think. The way that they no longer smile as much as they used to, the way they're so distant and blank faced. The way their voice no longer has the lilt or the cadence you used to remember.

Though, you can see how some things stay the way it was. Like how they have the same mannerisms, the food they always bring or comfortably eat, the way they used to hum melodies absentmindedly, the way they silently observe what you or others do and make sure they act accordingly. The way they sometimes look out for you without saying much but through actions and giving.

But you can't help but see how much they've changed. Those soft smiling eyes turned dark and brooding. Tired and looked like they've seen it all. Sometimes you see them flipping pages of their textbooks and rewriting the same thing in their notes over and over. Or rereading a certain part of a book a few or more times. 

Sometimes you would see them jolt or clutch their head out of nowhere, sometimes chanting something under their breath as they shut their eyes. After that, they would often brush it off as nothing.

Where was the joy they used to radiate? Where were the soft touches they used to exchange? Where was the feeling that always appeared whenever they played and sang together? Where was the person you used to know? The one that you had such feelings before?

Reality is, some things would stay the same, while some things would change. It's inevitable that something has happened throughout all this time. They wouldn't stay gentle and adorable for long.

Still, it hurts to bear such change.

Yearning or longing is a curse and a blessing at the same time. You want to feel those feelings again, because they're so lovely and warm. They bring you enrichment to your soul, your body, your mind. To be loved. To be cared for.

But you're not sure if you should feel them again when it could potentially hurt the other person — or worse. The only thing you could do now is bring joy into their life as they find someone else happily, as you watch from the sides. Alas, you can't help but want that love and attention from the other, that you just feel selfish for that desire. At the same time you feel like you're not worthy of anything, despite wanting to have fun. 

You don't feel like you belong as a person. And you didn't want to bring the person you loved into your mess, because that's your problem to deal with. Yet you want to help through their and others grievances because that way — nobody would have to know that you're battling the 'horrifying' nature inside of you.

Every journey to healing or self reflection seems so meaningless, yet so changing. It's best if you repress it, feel numb and or depressed about it rather than exploding it onto someone again.

You're capable of destruction, and fear that one day those you loved would see yourself as the monster you deem yourself to be.

You can't run away or avoid your problems forever, and you know you have to face it head on. You know it requires support from those you hold dear. 

Yet you don't want them to get hurt, or see you at your worst. You're too scared to see that possibility. But one day it's inevitable. You'd think you'd be ready as you learn more ways to cope and to keep it at bay. But eventually everything comes apart and it's all bad.

So you reinvent a different version of you — a different persona — that doesn't fully despise who you really are. Someone that you want to be. Someone that could show what you are capable of from the inside.

A bud waiting to bloom — waiting to be something beautiful.

orpheus is generally understanding and neutral grounded, the type to not really have strong opinions and simply see people for who they are, so they treat and view everyone equally. they're also the type to be very assisting of others, not bc they feel the need to but simply bc they want to. they're simply genuine.

orpheus doesn't mind yuina's aloofness nor are they bothered by it at all. they understand why some people wouldn't want to interact with other people and accepts that. so most of the time, they leave yuina alone. however, there are times where they would ask yuina if she needs any assistance in case there is anything she's struggling with (which is highly unlikely to be seen but orpheus is always there to lend a hand).

i kinda imagine they'd have a little scene where yuina would be in the infirmary (i suppose due to her fasting if that ever happens) and orpheus is there to give her assistance to restore her health (though i doubt yuina would take it). this scene seems very unlikely for me tho haha.

orpheus and hanatsu would get along very well! just know that hanatsu doesn't even need to look for orpheus cuz orpheus is always there and maybe, tends shows up whenever hanatsu feels like hanging out with them? sorta like an unexpected perfect timing. maybe that's their thing? like they dont need to speak, they don't need to do anything, but they always find eachother in the right time.

i think hanatsu and orpheus would have deep talks, well, not necessarily deep but personal ones. like maybe orpheus might talk about how they cant 'feel' things and hanatsu will say that they're quite alike in that aspect. maybe they'll learn more about eachother and how similar yet different their experiences are. they kinda remind me of the midnight sky in a way, calm and deep.

orpheus would tell hikari not to be too hard on herself or to not try at all in making them 'feel' emotions because they really cant. they're partly robot and being a robot disconnects them from truly feeling emotions, understanding it but not 'feeling' it. but that doesn't mean it bothers them! they reassure hikari of that fact.

orpheus would have a fun time with hikari too! maybe sing and dance with her or just talk about anything! also, they dont mind the topic of yuina and reassures hikari that she can talk about anything she's comfortable sharing. overall, i think they'd have a lively time together!

orpheus would pick up on clément's interest in studying them and would gladly discuss it with him. they would explain and show their parts, how it works and answer any questions clément might have for them! maybe whenever they get upgrades from their guardian, clément would be the first one orpheus will show the new features to! whenever clément needs to talk about something, whether it's biology or his opinions, he can approach orpheus for it!

AKANE HELLO!!! so i have a s42 oc, they dont have a post cuz im not done drawing them yet but their name is orpheus!

orpheus is cyborg that understands but doesn't really 'feel'. they have a calming presence, like the wind, and they're always seen wandering around the garden. despite not knowing their origins, they have a stable sense of self and is content with who they are and what they will be. they're overall really friendly and easily approachable and despite not being fully human, they are able to 'empathize' with humans well.

anyways, i was wondering what your ocs opinion on them will be and their possible dynamics and relationship :D!

I think Yuina, in premiere, would not really try? They just seem so calm, so composed, so mature and not at all, even a bit 'cracked' so she could get in their head, shes actually intimidated (despite them actually being easy to approach, afterall she only goes by surface level appearances at first and then gets through with her work) so they'd be safe from her strangeness!!

Hanatsu would genuinely enjoy Orpheus' presence! Considering that they're a safe space from Yuina, he'd feel like he can take a breath of fresh air. Their vibes actually match, since Hanatsu is very relaxed when alone, so they would actually probably get along. Hanatsu doesn't know how to truly "feel" either, he's mostly on fight or flight, so this would be a nice relatability he genuinely craves.

Hikari would genuinely try her best to make them understand feelings and be able to empathize! She'd smile and chuckle and laugh with them, and she'd enjoy their presence! She thinks their calmness balances out her energy. She tries her best to not talk about Yuina with them because she sees that she wants to stay far from them, and thinks that it might make them feel bad that she approaches everyone but them.

Clément would be interested by them! At first, maybe he'd study them but then he'd actually start wishing to be friends with them! He would enjoy their presence and their calming aura, and secretly aspire to achieve atleast half of that ability to remain grounded (maybe it'd get him more friends if he didn't always talk about his opinions..)

ive been friends with this guy for like idk around almost a year. i knew him cuz he was (probably still is) my friends crush during last semester. we share a class tgt and we became like good buddies yadayada.

CLOWNCAT knows a lot about Dr.whiskers, so asking him about him will be answered in a somewhat vague, joking, and cruel way- since ClownCat HATES Dr.whiskers as well!

Clowncat is like yin-yang, except both of them are jerks, the only difference is that one is a jerk in a happy toned way- more intense, and the other is just blunt. They don’t hate each other, both are just somewhat childish but also still mature.
