I'm 1:04:45 in and I can think of at least 20 different lines of dialogue that would have maybe at the very least attempted to salvage this narrative.
Also where is Alec? The kid from the end of the last episode.
OMG is the sheriff would have been taken down by the Nogitsune. Stiles would burn BH to the ground.
Yassss Peter!!!! I luff him. (Still don't believe/agree that he would side with an Argent especially Kate alá s4, no matter what Scott took from him, it's almost as unbearable as this storyline)
If fire makes the healing go faster does that mean it took even longer for Derek's family to die? Because the flames would heal or something. I dunno my brain isn't working but the implications make my heart hurt.
"Do I need to remind you people he slashed my throat once and it killed me?"
Lol mama McCall "can we lower the testosterone in the room?"
Oh ffs Scoot just running off on your own. At least use your nose.
Of course it's raining.
I didn't actually think beacon hills was big enough for anyone to need to stop to get gas to get anywhere.
Oh okay so he was already at his intended destination. Why is he pumping gas then?
You can't tell me the part of the contingency plan wasn't Derek having a car gassed up and ready to go.
The man didn't know he was a kitsune? My God they need to make a supernatural test.
Like oh you suddenly got the urge to move to BH? LET'S MAKE SURE YOU AREN'T A SUPERNATURAL BEING!
Peter and Chris just kiss.
Again yelling about how powerful the Nogitsune was and they just let Liam take it. Why not use Kira and the sword to drop it into Hell like she did with Theo?
Also another Argent going after a 15y/o boy
I STG frickin Scott. Wtf why does he get to help Eli transform.
Also wouldn't it be a better idea to send Allison's father after her? He's not an alpha but he is her daddy.
Um EXCUSE ME Stiles Stilinski almost had to cut your father's arm off sir.
Find your dad he says. Like he didn't even tell him where to look. Not go to Mama McCalls house.
Look at Peter, he knows how to use his sniffer.
Did everyone forget how to use mountain ash? Why aren't they all carrying some?
They need "In case of BH FUCKERY" bags
Of course alt! Kira dies
Or okay goes up in smoke.

Continuation from yesterday evenings character ponderigs, a shadow sorcerer coud be a fun one to play. A bubbly, young changeling, exposed to shadowfell's magics while saving the patrons of her mom's tavern from a weird rift-anomaly opening in the broody corner. A spell gone odd or a just a harmless occurence? Anyway, ever since, she's been both seen as a hero and a freak as no-one normal could've survived without something going wrong in their head.
They don't meet her eyes anymore while placing their orders, afraid of what might look back. 'It's just a matter of time when she will snap and people start disappearing,' they whisper when leaving the tavern.
It is time to leave.

Sweet Treats
Tumblr media
A/N: Well, well, well. As we know, today is the lovely Tom Hiddleston’s 40th Birthday, and to celebrate, I’ve decided to revisit a wonderfully smutty sub!Tom fic the darling @fadingfics wrote for his birthday last year. This fic had me sweating the entire time, so definitely give it a read and show it some love. You can find it here.
Summary: You’ve been preparing Tom for almost two weeks for his birthday celebration. Now it’s time to reward his commitment.
Madness List: this is a list of my thoughts of the fic, so major spoilers ahead.
1) ‘No matter how hard he tried, Tom could not make out what you were doing. The array of sounds around him was confusing, and his own fidgeting did not help. What he could hear were your giggles. You were clearly amused by his current predicament.’
Tumblr media
Wonder what’s going on here 👀😏
2) ‘“I’m gonna be ready soon, my sweet.” You kissed his head.’
Cute 🥰
3) ‘Tom whimpered softly, and took a deep breath. Blindfolded and ordered to remain on his knees, hands behind his back, there was not much else he could do but wait.’
OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH OKAY OKAY I SEE
Tumblr media
4) ‘He had been waiting for so long! You had denied him orgasms for two weeks, making him wear his cock cage round the clock, with the promise of making it up to him while flaunting the damn key around your neck.’
Hehe
5) ‘And tonight, during his own party with friends and family, you had made him wear his bluetooth anal plug, turning it on and off periodically, teasing him to his breaking point. The plug was still in his ass, vibrating on the lowest setting. He was so ready, his cock and balls were straining against the cage.’
... man is gonna cum by the lightest touch
6) ‘Tom stood up slowly, and removed the cloth from his eyes. His breath caught, and he growled deep inside his chest at the sight of you, sprawled naked on the bed. Strings of chocolate sauce covered your breasts, belly and thighs, like decorations on a cake.’
Thomas, your mistress needs to be cleaned. Thoroughly. Don’t miss a single spot 😏
7) ‘“Are you my chocolate cake, Mistress?” Tom asked in a low tone and half a smile.’
So cuuute bebe 🥺
8) ‘Wasting no more time, Tom crawled on the bed on top of you, and kissed you hard. He took one second to glare at the golden key on your neck, before he started to lick the chocolate off your upper chest. His skillful tongue worked over the chocolate lines almost with ease. All his oral training paying off as he eagerly sucked and licked your skin clean. He took extra time to lavish both your breast with his attentions before he continued his way down. You opened your legs for him, and Tom grabbed the back of your knee to lick the chocolate from your inner thigh.’
The urge to say ‘good puppy’ is just ready to burst from me. Also, totally random, but I don’t think I could ever do this. Too ticklish 😔
9) ‘Scooting up the bed to lay against the pillows, you opened your legs wide. “You may claim your cake now.”’
YASSSS!!! Damn, I am loving this 😌
10) ‘Tom leaned down and circled your thighs with his arms, pulling you close to his mouth. His tongue parted your folds to find you already wet. He moaned, relishing your taste. He pulled you even closer to his face, eating you as if your arousal had ignited something inside of him. He sucked your clit hard, tongued and teased your entrance and drank all your juices while staring right at you. Your orgasm was his prize and it came fast and hard, making you clench your legs around his head.’
Tom:
Tumblr media
11) ‘Tom’s blessed mouth had you on the edge again in no time.’
‘Blessed’ 🤣 that’s definitely one way to describe it.
12) ‘Tom smiled up at you and rubbed two long fingers between your folds, getting them wet and warm before sliding them inside your cunt. His mouth went back to work on your clit while his fingers slid in and out, rubbing against your spot. Another orgasm rolled in, making you arch your back as you came shouting his name.’
Not me getting weak right now-
13) ‘In the afterglow, you watched Tom lick his fingers, wearing a rather proud smile. You took a moment to compose yourself before you sat up and beckoned him closer.’
Full of ourselves, are we? 🤨
14) ‘“On your knees, right here…” You patted the bed in front of you, and grabbed the chain around your neck. “Hands behind your back.”’
👀👀
15) ‘Tom did as you said, and held his breath as he watched you take the small golden key off your necklace and unlock his cock cage. He groaned loudly when you finally set him free.’
Also Tom:
Tumblr media
16) ‘“You’ve been such a good boy Thomas, wearing your submission obediently.” You rubbed your nose against his, watching him blush. “Now, I’m gonna make it up to you. As a birthday present and a reward for being my good little slave.” You kissed him again. “On your back. Lift your legs up and open wide for me.”’
Tumblr media
17) ‘You poured lube on the strap-on, making sure it was well covered, and then some more around his hole before sliding inside. You went slowly, letting him get used to the girth of the toy. Tom’s mouth fell open, his exquisite moans and gasps filled the room.’
*Inhale* I am thinking some dirty thoughts right now, and imagining him moaning and gasping is NOT helping.
18) ‘But you would not be rushed. You kept thrusting in and out, getting more of the toy inside with each slow thrust. It was driving Tom insane . It had been too long. He wanted to be ravaged, and he desperately moved his hips to meet yours. You had to scold him and hold him down to make him stop. Only when the toy was completely in did you increase your pace, angling your hips to make sure the toy rubbed against his prostate. Tom cried out when you hit the jackpot, and you went harder.’
😏😏
19) ‘“Mistress-” He grunted. “Can I- I want-” “Words, Thomas.” You half-smiled.’
🤣🤣 I’m afraid the poor man can’t hold out much longer
20) ‘You kept your hand around his cock as his hips spasmed, cum spurting on his belly. You stilled inside of him, letting him ride down from his first orgasm of the night. Smiling down at him, you pulled out and removed the strap-on. Immediately, you grabbed another toy from your stash and covered it with lube, pushing it inside of Tom, taking advantage of how open he was. He hadn’t fully recovered yet, and moaned loudly when the toy started to massage his prostate. You knelt on the bed between his legs, and grabbed the flogger. “Touch yourself, Thomas.” You leaned down to kiss and nip his inner thigh, setting the massager on low. “What?” Tom lifted his head up, as if he hadn’t heard you right. “Touch yourself.” You repeated, sucking marks on his thighs. “You haven’t done it in weeks, now you’re gonna do it, and put on a show for me. I wanna see that cock getting hard and leaking again.”’
I swear I’m getting so flustered and squirmy but I’m also like ‘Keep going 🤤’
21) ‘“You paint such a beautiful color, my prince.” You said, tracing the lines on his thighs with your fingers. “So pretty…” “Tha- thank you for making me pretty, Mistress.”’
Awww!! That’s so cute!
22) ‘You crawled on top of him, kissing his chest and you went, until you straddled his hips. Sliding your wet pussy lips on his still half soft cock, you used the flogger to mark his chest. Your rhythm was slow, taking time to tease his nipples, and kiss the pink marks of the flogger. You ran your hands down his stomach, feeling the tense muscles ripple under his skin, and you tried to soothe them.’
... pretty sure this is going to be his most favorite birthday after this 😆
23) ‘“You are going to come…” You started moving your hips again, up and down his length. “…when I say so.” You increased your pace, feeling him swell inside you. “Because you belong to me. Your body belongs to me.” Tom was breathing in short shallow gasps, eyes fixed on yours. “Your pleasure and your orgasms belong to me.” Your voice started to quake. “I own them… and I control them. Yes?”’
Why is this so hoooooot 😩🥵
24) ‘Tom grabbed your hips and turned you over, your legs automatically wrapping around his waist. Fuck me! And he did, hard, deep, relentlessly, as if he was making up for all those weeks you kept him from doing it. As much as he liked to play, nothing ever compared to feeling your cunt around his cock. Hot and wet and perfect . It was the best prize you could ever give him.’
I’M MELTING I CAN’T THIS IS TOO HOT I- brb, I need to get some cold water. I can’t continue without.
Tumblr media
25) ‘Catching your breath back wasn’t easy with Tom crushing you. You knew he had come on command right when you did. You could feel his cock still twitching inside of you.“Tom?” You pushed on his arm. He didn’t move. “Oh, shit…” You giggled to yourself: Tom had gone into subspace.’
Mehehehe 😈 I guess the plan to fuck his brains out worked :D
26) ‘He was dead weight on top of you, but you managed to get at least part of your upper body from underneath him. Running your hands up and down his back and playing with his hair, you waited for him to come around, regretting the position you were in, as you would have loved to look into his eyes.’
WHAT THE-? MA’AM YOU GOT ME FROM HORNY TO SOFT IN .1 SECONDS
27) ‘“Mistress?” Tom propped himself on one of his arms and looked at you, eyes still glazed and unfocused. “I’m sorry-” He added, trying to move away.’
So sweet, so bebe 🥺
28) ‘“Come here.” You cupped his chin, making him look at you. “You did so good, my prince. I’m proud of you.” You kissed his forehead and then his lips. “Thank you, Mistress.” He said with a small proud smile and a slight blush on his cheeks. His body wiggled happily as he snuggled against you.
YOU CAN’T JUST MAKE ME GO FROM RUINED PANTIES TO UWU-ING LIKE THAT IT’S RUDE 😤
29) ‘You allowed a moment to rest before you pushed Tom off the bed and into the bathroom. You were both covered in chocolate, sweat and cum, and in dire need of a shower. After getting cleaned up, and despite Tom’s exhaustion, you made sure he drank enough water and had a few snacks. As soon as you disposed of the bed cover, you both slid in between the clean sheets underneath.’
*still grumbling about being soft*
30) ‘Tom cuddled up to your neck, arm wrapped around your waist. “Thank you,” he mumbled. “For everything.” You smiled and kissed his head, holding him close, legs tangled with his. “Happy birthday.”’
🥺🥺😭 THAT’S SO CUUUUTE AND SWEEEET AND NOW I JUST WANNA CUDDLE WITH HIM!!!! *sigh* ;-;

From @curator-on-ao3
20 questions for fics in 2020
1. Fandoms you wrote for this year: VOY and PIC (and kinda/sorta DS9)
2. Favorite fic you wrote this year: Safe to Fall
3. Favorite fic you read this year: Oh mother of shit you’re really gonna make me pick just one? Ughghghgjdkdjakd nope I pick both “The Monster” and “A Walk on Uneven Sand” by Curator
4. Favorite opening line/scene you wrote this year:
I used to write him letters. (Take It Back)
5. Favorite ending line/scene you wrote this year:
With one last look towards the stairwell, I turn on a slender heel and make my way back into the ballroom. (When You Were Mine)
6. A trope you wrote this year: Missing scene (Weave Together)
7. Pairings you wrote this year: J/P, J/C, K/OC, Raffi/Seven, Tom/Phoebe Janeway, Tom/OC, C/7
8. A fic regret from this year: I couldn’t finish Looking For Eden
9. A song that helped you write: Um, most of my fics, most chapters of a fic, have at least one song each. Most of them are named for songs. But narrowing it down a bit, I’ll point to my Cardigan series, which pulls heavily from the teenage love triangle from Taylor Swift’s brilliant album “folklore.” The trio of songs are “cardigan,” “august,” and “betty,” with a bonus song “illicit affairs”—also from folklore—that partially inspired the first story in the series.
10. Total number of fics you posted: 11
11. Total number of words you posted: Not counting the five chapters of Looking For Eden that I posted, or Long Nights on La Sirena (which was a collab fic), my 2020 word count is 19,840
12. Most popular fic written this year: Weave Together
13. Least popular fic this year: If You Never Bleed, You’re Never Gonna Grow (it’s a rare pair, so not surprising)
14. Longest completed fic you posted this year: If You Never Bleed, You’re Never Gonna Grow (5,229 words)
15. Shortest completed fic you posted this year: Innocent (564 words)
16. Favorite character to write about this year: Tom. I was strangely fascinated with him this year.
17. A fic you didn’t expect to write: Safe to Fall. I never thought I’d write J/P, but that idea invaded my brain out of nowhere one day (thanks Halsey and Curator) and I just had to write about it.
18. Most memorable comment or review: “Yassss, Maria Clemencia Ramírez Hayes! Network and achieve and do all the things by yourself or with a supportive partner. Turn on your slender heel all damn day, queen!!” From Curator. I literally lol’ed. Hard.
19. Fics you wanted to write but didn’t: Pre-canon Tom Paris struggling to cope with/hide having bipolar disorder because Starfleet is hella ableist; Seven’s journey from Endgame to Picard; K/7 STWOM episode rewrite; Resolutions rewrite with C/P instead of J/C; Harry & Lyndsay Ballard backstory, star-crossed lovers
20. Something to write next year: Tbh I think I might just give up on making plans for what I’m going to write next cuz I’m just too impulsive. Except for finishing the Far From Their Bones trilogy. I’m still determined to do that. 2020 took a hard, hard left, but maybe 2021 will finally be the year I get it done.

LOVER Track-by-track Impressions
1. I Forgot That You Existed
catchy AF with the da-da-da in the beginning
“Free rent, living in my mind”
love how she sings “and quieeeetttt”
“It isn’t love, it isn’t hate, it’s just indifference”
“I forgot that you sent me a clear message, taught me some hard lessons”
The “So, yeah” at the end is gold, like vocally shrugging
2. Cruel Summer
Pure BOP!
Feeling that bass in my soul
“I’m always waiting for you to be waiting below” - 80s John Hughes movie style!
“Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes” is perfect
The whole chorus floats and soars and I love it so much
“You say that we’ll just screw it up in these trying times, we’re not trying” - SUCH A GOOD LINE
“So cut the headlights, summer’s knife, I’m always waiting for you just to cut to the bone” Ouf!
“I don’t wanna keep secrets just to keep you”
The raspy roar in her voice when she sings “He looks up, grinning like a devil”
3. Lover
Quiet and precious and sweet and lovely and cozy
So happy we have an album with a title song again
4. The Man
“They’d say I played the field before i found someone to commit to”
“Every conquest I had made would make me more of a boss to you”
“I’m so sick of running as fast as I can, wondering if I’d get there quicker if I was a man” - MY MOTTO FROM NOW ON, just running through my head constantly
“What I was wearing, if I was rude” - I feel like this also doubles for her sexual assault case against that radio DJ (blaming the victim)
“I’d be just like Leo in Saint-Tropez” LOL
The whole bridge, when she switches from “And getting bitches and models” to “If I was out flashing my dollars, I’d be a bitch not a baller” OUF
MY INHERENT FEMALE ANGER AT THE INJUSTICE OF THE PATRIARCHY IS ALIVE AND WELL
5. The Archer
This is one of my favourites, even though I’ve had it longer than most cause it was released earlier
Lyrically, best or second best on the album
Destroys me every time, goddamnit
6. I Think He Knows
“I am an architect, I’m drawing up the plans”
I love how she sings “skipping down 16th avenue”, like so specific and wonderful but universal
I like how she owns how much of a catch she herself is in the second verse - like yassss girl
“Lyrical smile, indigo eyes, hand on my thigh, we can follow the sparks (SPARKS FLYYYYYYYY), I’ll smile”
7. Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince
The way it starts, it made me think of The Killers “Well somebody told me that you had a boyfriend who looked like a girlfriend…”
“American glory faded before me” - her fall from the spotlight
“I saw the scoreboard and ran for my life” - hiding away from media and everyone
I like how she incorporates the “OKAY” school chant in the background of the chorus
This has a lot of “I Know Places” vibes, especially second verse
The switch in the bridge from “And I don’t want you to (Go), I don’t really wanna (Fight), ‘Cause nobody’s gonna (Win)” to “And I’ll never let you (Go), ‘Cause I know this is a (Fight),” That somebody we’re gonna (Win)”
Wish she’d held the the last note that she started before entering back into final chorus (it sounded like it was going to go on longer
8. Paper Rings
Makes me think of the happiness of “Stay, Stay, Stay” with a dash of “Holy Ground” energy
Easily one of my faves
Jack Antonoff counting us into the chorus, just love him
Just such fun, every lyric and beat
“I like shiny things but I’d marry you with paper rings” and “I hate accidents except when we went from friends to this” SO CUTE
“Honey, without all the exes, fights, and flaws, we wouldn’t be standing here so tall” - so mature and wonderful and she’s so happy now!
I love that she brings it up an octave starting at the bridge and into the final chorus
I can’t help but smile listening to this over and over again
Like, I want Lover as my wedding song and Paper Rings as a choreographed 20s swing dance with my future husband
9. Cornelia Street
Hit me the second time more than the first, like wow I actually love this
“‘I rent a place on Cornelia Street,’ I say casually in the car” CUTEEEEE
“That’s the kinda heartbreak time could never mend, I’d never walk Cornelia Street again”
Second half of the chorus makes me think of Dress
“Windows swung right open, autumn air, jacket ‘round my shoulders is yours” - ALL TOO WELL callback
“Back when we were card sharks, playing games, I thought you were leading me one, I packed my bags, left Cornelia Street before you even knew I was gone” - makes me think of when she sings “If I had known what I know now, I never would have played so nonchalant” in Come Back, Be Here
“Barefoot in the kitchen” - makes me think of All Too Well “dancing in the refrigerator light”
I also think Cornelia Street doubles for love itself, like this is it for her, this is the one big love for her and there won’t be another so she wants to get it right and keep it safe
10. Death By A Thousand Cuts
Ignore the lyrics and you almost think it’s a happy song (classic Jack Antonoff Bleachers thing to do)
“I look through the windows of this love, even though we boarded them up, chandelier still flickering here” - brilliant
THE PIANOOOOOOOOOOOOO (very Bleachers ‘Wild Heart’ outro)
She goes from “We were a fresh page on the desk, filling in the blanks as we go” in Cornelia Street to “But if the story’s over, why am I still writing pages?” in Death By A Thousand Cuts, and that kills me
“My heart, my hips, my body, my love, Tryna find a part of me that you didn’t touch”
“Our songs, our films, united, we stand, our country, guess it was a lawless land”
“Why are my fears at the touch of your hands? Paper cut stains from my paper-thin plans” - some of the best lyrics on the album right there, IMO
“My time, my wine, my sprit, my trust, Tryna find a part of me you didn’t take up” - this destroyed me more than I thought it would because it was so unexpected and raw, especially the second half of the line, like she’s realizing that he took too much and it hurts but it wasn’t good to lose herself like that
11. London Boy
Is the voice talking in the beginning Idris Elba?
“They say home is where the heart is, But that’s not where mine lives” - she says the second half like a secret she’s sharing with us over wine
Gotta go back to London STAT
“Doesn’t have to be Louis V up on Bond Street” LOL fancy baller line
12. Soon You’ll Get Better
This and The Archer are the two songs I cried during, just gutted
“The buttons of my coat were tangled in my hair” - how we think of the mundane things when the worst things are happening to try and distract ourselves
“Holy orange bottles, each night, I pray to you” - I don’t know what to say
“…’Cause you have to”
I love that the Dixie Chicks are lightly assisting the chorus without taking the song away from Taylor and its focus
The bridge and pre-final-chorus have me crying the most and I don’t know what to do
This remind me a lot of Ronan mixed with Never Grow Up and Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide
13. False God
Sax is a bit like the sax in Bleachers’ Everybody Lost Somebody (not complaining at all)
“We were stupid to jump in the ocean separating us
I get Dress sexy vibes from this (“The altar is my hips”)
The feathery way she sings the second “this loooovee)
Reminds me of “So It Goes…”
14. You Need to Calm Down
Still a bop, and always will be a bop - just so fun
15. Afterglow
I like that she owns up to her mistakes and destructive tendency
Makes me think of the Lover lyric “And I’m highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you” and in the music video it’s her jealousy that leads to a fight
“Fighting with a true love is boxing with no gloves”
“I lived like an island, punished you in silence”
16. ME!
Lyrically and musically, exactly like what happened with Look What You Made Me Do and Reputation - almost like a red herring to put us off the sonic trail of her album until single 2 came out
17. It’s Nice To Have a Friend
We get a story again! I’ve missed story song! (think Mary’s Song and Everything Has Changed mixed together)
Lovely chill indie vibes
“Something gave you the nerve to touch my hand”
Love me some trumpet
“Church bells ring, carry me home” (like third verse of Mary’s Song)
“Rice on the ground looks like snow” - poetic cute
18. Daylight
“My love was a cruel as the cities I lived in, everyone looked worse in the light” - like Cruel Summer and Getaway Car and even Back to December, she wanted something and got it, only find it wasn’t what she wanted and she ended up hurting someone in the process
Chorus makes me think of You Are in Love floating synth
“I wounded the good and I trusted the wicked” (Back to December, Getaway Car, I Knew You Were Trouble)
“Clearing the air, I breathed in the smoke” harkens back to The Archer’s “The room is on fire, invisible smoke”
“Threw out our cloaks and our daggers because it’s morning now” - she no longer needs I Know Places, no fear or hiding
“I once believe love would be (Black and white) But it’s (Golden) […] I once believed love would be (Burning red) But it’s golden” - Burning red calls back to Red (duh!), Golden calls back to Dress “Made your mark on me, a golden tattoo”, End Game “It’s like your eyes are liquor, it’s like your body is gold”, So It Goes… “Gold cage, hostage to my feelings” and Dancing With Our Hands Tied “Deep blue, but you painted me golden”
“You gotta step into the daylight and let it go” - remind me of the poem The Trick to Holding On that she wrote for Vogue (“The trick to holding on Was all that letting go”)
The talking outro is very Jack Antonoff/Bleachers’ Strange Desire, cause he threads introspective talking throughout, especially when she says “I wanna be defined by the things that I love” and he sings “I wanna be grateful for the experiences that I’ve had” in You’re Still a Mystery

Episode 2 - "Fuck I’m on the cursed tribe" ~Moth
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a lil sad to see my girl, Bri, go, but that just makes us one person closer to the goal >:3
Tumblr media
dennis is very sneaky. we all had a tribe call and he said he'd come later but he was actually doing the hunt challenge. like that's totally fair, it's just even afterward he acted as if he was not really focusing on it either. im going to play the game assuming he has something, just in case.
Tumblr media
GAME AND GAME SHOW ARE DIFFERENT DSJKLFHASJDJFH no but this was hella fun pls let's do it again
Tumblr media
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hX3Fs7lDDQk&list=PLrsCGcojtF16jvLW49C4855pUlLWI9pnn
Tumblr media
Dhsjdjsjskksks. First tribal done. We just finished the taboo challenge ... A good bonding experience with my tribe. However, I have a feeling we lost. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 The fact that I was the guesser. Rip.
Tumblr media
I filmed confessionals but my internet got disconnected hahaha so that's neat. Hopefully there will be youtube videos here soon, but new update Jodi and I are in alliances with Dennis and brayden separately which I think would be hilarious if they were also in am alliance together. And it will be funny it my internet is still out for the challenge tomorrow since I'm the guesser 😆 whoops
Tumblr media
So this is the beginning of round 2 and here are my thoughts. Might purposely not be helpful in the taboo challenge lol but i have to do it in a way that doesn't show im throwing it? tbh i say this now but when i start playing the urge to win comes in ugh but i just wanna vote one of these people out. I also took a stroll through the wiki page for this org and i love that some of these people (esp brayden and amy) have played before and their stats are there like yassss give me ammunition yassss!!!! anywho i dont care if we win or lose tomorrow i think i set myself up nicely within the tribe and i still really dont think any of these people won the hunt challenge on my tribe but again who knowssss. if we lose the logic would probably be go for josh or ginny aka the least active people buttt i dont think so like i don't wanna go the boring route. i need to keep josh close to get to merge with him we have friends on the other tribeeeeeee so i need them to survive and i need him and i to survive till we swap or merge to link up. im also trying to win a hunt challenge but my god y'all have me fucked up!!!!!!!!! i guess we shall see what happens tomorrowwwwww
Tumblr media
It was nice sitting the challenge out, I'm busy tomorrow and the fact that they could complete it is good for me. Also, if we lose, nobody can blame me for the loss. Only drawback is it appears to me some people can be getting close by bonding over funny things in a game. I have to go back and see who may be close, I don't think I'm next on the chopping block, but I'm definitely not in control. To me, I do not need to be number one on this tribe, I just need to survive the next tribal and hopefully make it to the swap at 14 or 15.

Tumblr media
HEY SO KIND OF A LOT OF DEVELOPMENTS TO MY GAME we didn't lose first challenge!! thats great. whatever. no tribal. I've been trying to connect with fellow tribemates but overall we're all pretty quiet. I did have a small 30 minute call with Jay where we kinda connected on somewhat of a game level. I kinda get the vibe that he may not fully trust me or he might see my as a threat, but I want to work with him. I also really like Anastasia and Elle, I think I can connect with them more on a more genuine level. Perfect scenario for me would be setting up a trio alliance of Me + Elle + Anastasia, and then having Jay on the side as my actual #1. idk if I can pull that off, but that was my plan heading into round 2 BUT. AS ROUND 2 STARTED, MY GAY ASS WON THE HUNT CHALLENGE. AMAZING. idk HOW I managed it because like?? I finished and found the hidden link within like 20 minutes? Statistically very unlikely BUT I'm so glad I did it. I WON A SAFETY WITHOUT POWER. It's kinda like a hidden immunity idol, except slightly worse because I can't actually partake in tribal at all. we went ahead and competed in the Taboo challenge last night and boy it was kinda rough. We lost a LOTTA points because we kept accidentally saying forbidden words (I lost us 2 points, woops). But we ended up with a semi decent score. Elle did an amazing job guessing. I really hope we can pull this out. SO YEAH SORRY THATS KIND OF A LOT. OVERALL I FEEL LIKE IM IN A DECENT POSITION, WAY BETTER NOW THAT I HAVE A SWP. I wanna further my position in the game with some allies now. That's my next biggest goal. toodles!!!
Tumblr media
So I've figured out that Amy is a comp beast based on us discussing our old seasons and how she did in those: she always talks down her abilities because she's worried she's being painted as a big challenge threat, but I don't think she realizes that doesn't matter to me at all. Ultimately, I think she needed to be at tonight's challenge more than me, so I decided it's ok to sit out since I'm sitting out only because somebody has to, not because I don't want to play. In tribal challenges, it means she'll help keep us winning tribal immunity, and further down the line, if anything, I'll be using her as my "Ken" and if she wins everything, it'll keep immunity away from people I want out.
Tumblr media
I think I did much better in Taboo than I did in endurance, so I'm happy about that. Hopefully my performance this round can help me redeem myself with my tribemates.
Tumblr media
Today in the fools tribe: no one is talking
Tumblr media
Holy crap we won yet again this is such a great feeling just like last season :)
Tumblr media
Fuck I’m on the cursed tribe this round This time I think I’m on the majority alliance, which is a great place to be. So hopefully everything goes as planned tomorrow

So! We did the Taboo challenge and got second place, probs wouldve got first if we didnt get deductions but also we did so good so whatever 😂. I definitely kinda pushed for us to do the challenge last night bc it's Dylan's birthday and I didn't want to have to like, be anywhere specifically today 😅. But yeah we did super good and now I'm gonna go talk to ppl bc I've been gone all day lol
Tumblr media
Bye I hate it here.
~
SO. Here’s the rundown: We lost. Again. Pushing for Shaad to go. Moth, Jared, and Danny all agree with him going. So far I’m getting good vibes with everyone. Danny says he gets along with Jared well and doesn’t talk to Moth that much. Plus, Jared, Moth and I have that little alliance. Jared and I also get along well. Worried for Moth as she doesn’t seem to message a lot. This tribal... I’m feeling safe. I might even make an alliance with Jared, Danny and I. Worst case scenario for next challenge we lose and Moth goes.
Tumblr media
Yay we won again! Anyways, Dennis messaged me tonight talking about how everybody else knows each other from playing Stings games before. He said he checked the series wiki and got freaked out and told me that we're two newbies amongst vets. While he's telling the truth, I'm actually not too panicked because 1) I actually checked out the wiki before he told me about it and 2) I have pretty decent relationship with Amy to incentivize her to keep me around. I worked tightly with Amy for the specific reason that I knew she'll have others to work with, and for her to keep me as a loyal number. I also know that she was runner up of another series and she already recognizes the target on her, so I doubt she wants to risk me putting a bigger one. WOW FOR ONCE I'M NOT THE FLAMING TARGET I LIKE THIS

So, tbh I've done some research about some previous seasons and I noticed Moth and Jessica have played together before. Moth still has not talked to me but Jessica has been overly friendly. I know they have a group message with Jared and I know he can be the split vote between what happens in our tribal tomorrow. Jared claims he has voted for Moth but we will truly see tomorrow. But honestly, if he chooses us, then Jessica is next unless the tribe swap or merge has happened.
~
Also with that research, I've peeped there's other connections in other tribes from previous games so this is gonna be interesting.
~
I chose Jared to work with mostly because I see he can play strategy.
Tumblr media
Fools tribe is bad at playing games. And its perfect for me because I am safe but i am wishing for drama bcs its fun. rn we are doing small talk and being so nice to each other. I think we will form an alliance officially soon but i am too awkward or like i dont know how to say it or bring it up.
Tumblr media
WHY! DOES! MY! TRIBE! KEEP! WINNING!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am trying to go the fuck to tribal council but noooo we have to beast all the other tribes yet again. Like a swap is probably coming soon and with my fuckin luck I am gonna get swap screwed like they are gonna look at me from the phantoms and be like yeahhhh theyve been winning lets get his ass out. i would love to lose this next one so the sees look stronger. if phantoms go to tribal I know I''m safe (anything can happen but I set myself up well), and thats all I care about. Jodi and I started to really talk about the vets who are playing this season, and we just realized that we're the only newbies on our tribe. like wow. The fantasy would be to get to merge and have a numbers advantage of newbies against these vets, or make the vets eat their own idk. Lots of thinkin lots of thinkinnnnn. I have been strolling through the wiki page some more and mapping out potential connections from previous seasons. The casting directors work hard but i work harder

Roses are red We’re on day six Fools tribe worse at challenges than a bag of dead bricks
Tumblr media
That im one of the strongest competitors on my tribe, Dennis feels like he is on the outs, but that connects us so i can pull him in as an ally.
Tumblr media
It’s been a tricky round
~~~
Edgic:
Tumblr media
Power Rankings:
Tumblr media
Phantom
Jodi: Jodi remains at the top of the tribe for much of the same reason as last round. Now, she is even in two alliances with no one wanting to come for her nor do they see her as playing both alliances. Hopefully Jodi’s quick alliance making and constant worrying will help strengthen her defenses in the later rounds to come when people will be looking at her more closely.
Amy: Amy is still playing that stellar UTR game. No one seems to register her as a threat despite their access to the wiki and her performance in the challenge. Her social game is just too strong. Additionally, her greater willingness to work with Dennis than Jodi’s willingness to work with him may provide some good allies for Amy if she ever wants to distance herself from Jodi.
Brayden: Brayden rises in the rankings from last round as he has become more closely aligned with Amy and Jodi. The trio seem to see themselves as the only “active” ones on their tribe and are very quick to bond. Additionally, unlike Dennis, Brayden is not viewed with suspicion by either Jodi or Amy. They definitely feel more like a core alliance than they did with Dennis. Furthermore, Brayden is poised to get the people he wants gone out of this game. He is targeting Josh and Dennis which are good targets, especially the latter. All it takes is for Brayden to push a little for Dennis and I am sure the two girls will take the bait. Finally, Brayden’s connection with Ginnifer is very beneficial since he seems to be the only one willing to work with her at the moment. This gives him a very easy ally and Ginnifer doesn’t have much of a choice besides working closely with him. It is certainly an easy number for Brayden if he ever wanted to backstab Jodi or Amy in the future.
Josh: What lands Josh here is that he performed well in the challenge and is easy to like. Interacting with Josh on calls is always a pleasure. However, by not being part of that main trio, he is in danger of being voted out on a whim. Despite that, he seems to be, in my eyes, the least likely out of the bottom 3 to be voted out. Additionally, there is paranoia around people’s “experience” with ORGs surrounding these bottom 3 from others (despite the fact that the top 3 is composed of 2 people with ORG experience). Josh gets this heat the least.
Dennis: Dennis is in real danger if this tribe goes to tribal council. If Brayden pushes hard enough, Jodi can be easily swayed into turning on Dennis. He needs to back off with the strategy talk and just be more social. What saves him from last is that he is in that alliance with Jodi and Amy. This might make Jodi hesitant about targeting Dennis so soon as she may see him as a number. Additionally, Amy does seem keen on keeping Dennis around for a little while which would help his longevity. Hopefully Dennis can realize people’s perceptions of him before it is too late considering that he gives great confessionals and is one of my favorite players this season.
Ginnifer: Ginnifer may be on the bottom, but she definitely has a chance at avoiding being voted out. Most talk around Ginny is about how she is hard to socialize with, but I am sure, when the strategic game starts becoming more important, she can navigate out of this position. After all, she does have Brayden advocating for her which can definitely help. She would need to push for Dennis if she wants to survive until the swap at this point.
Fools
Jared: He takes the number 1 spot on this tribe as he is working with both “sides.” He is serving as the perfect double agent for Danny and Shaad. Additionally, he is making the smart move of getting rid of an obvious duo wherein he was the third wheel of that alliance. He has a great strategic mind on his shoulders, but is it too early for him to show that off? Regardless, he has earned this top spot by avoiding the target cleanly and betraying his allies perfectly. Jared is definitely a contender for the winner spot as he has shown some excellent gameplay these past two rounds.
Danny: Danny has done well in avoiding the target this round as well. He seems to be more sociable and active than Shaad which is the main reason that he is not the one getting Jessica’s and Moth’s vote. Additionally, he was the one that brought Jessica’s and Moth’s pre-existing relationship to Jared’s attention which caused this flip to happen in the first place. Finally, Danny made an excellent move by pairing himself with Jared as this duo could be something fearsome to go up against in the future. The cards are being laid out for a force to be reckoned with and I am excited to see what Danny will do in the future.
Shaad: It is hard to tell if Shaad did anything himself to avoid being voted out, but, regardless, he did something right by aligning with Danny and Jared instead of ratting to Jessica and Moth. In fact, even if he does rat, he will still land himself at number 3. He is not going to get voted out here, and has an established alliance moving forward. And now that he is putting more focus on the game, I am happily anticipating what he can accomplish now.
Jessica: Jessica is being blindsided tonight. However, at the very least, she is not the one going. Her performance in challenges have helped her avoid the target for the time being. Here we can see that the boys weren’t inactive, they were just inactive with her which spells doom for Jessica if this tribe goes to tribal council again. Unfortunately, the boys found out about her prior connection with Moth. The only thing Jessica could have done was to distance herself from Moth at the beginning of the game, but that seemed unlikely since people were inactive with her. I hope Jessica is able to survive until a swap because it would be devastating to see her go so early.
Moth: There is nothing Moth did that landed them here. It was just an unfortunate circumstance wherein they are targeted because of a prior connection. Additionally, I doubt Moth is going to see this coming.
S.E.E.S.
Colin: With an advantage in his hands and him being the most popular bachelor on his tribe, Colin is quick to make allies and his allies like it that way. It feels as if everyone wants to ally with Colin. His activity in the earlier stages of the game have definitely born fruit.
Elle: Similar to Colin, everyone wants to work with Elle. Her social game is just that strong. Nothing much else to say besides what I said before, but the challenge definitely helped raise Elle’s standings in the tribe.
Anastasia: Similar to last round. Nothing much to say.
Jay: He is keeping out of the spotlight which is good.
Babs: No developments. Still viewed in the same way though has noticeably been less unhinged in the tribe chat.
Jennifer: Still the same as last time: seemingly inactive and might be targeted for it.
They certainly are, I hope yours will go well and that the studying isn’t too stressful, boi~
14. Favorite book you read this year?Ashamed to say I haven’t read nearly as much as I wanted this year. This year has been a general let-down, I think we can all agree. But the books I DID read, were all really enjoyable in their own ways. I read (most of) the Lunar Chronicles which were incredibly well-written, I read them as if I was watching a movie! King of Shadows was very self-indulgent because YASSSS MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM IS DA BOMB and Four Sisters by Rappaport, a book about the Romanov princesses, was very interesting and emotional and self-indulgent because by god am I a sucker for tragedy. BUT THE BOOK THAT TAKES THE CAKE is Language of Thornes by the fabulous Leigh Bardugo (author of Six of Crows YES YES YES YES YES YES) which is a collection of reimagined fairytales and MMMMM THE BOOK IS PRETTY IT HAS EVOLVING PICTURES AND IT’S GAY AND TRAGIC AND SURPRISING AND I LOVE IT WITH ALL MY HEART.... So yeah, read that.
20. What’s something you learned this year?Stuff changes at a ridiculously fast pace. Opinions, situations, moods, atmospheres,... Last year I was broke, I’m anything but right now, but that can change any minute. I had 2 uncles last week, I only got 1 left today, it can change to 0 at any second. Last April I was super happy and content and nothing could go wrong, then last October I was back in a dip and I thought I’d never get out of it this time, right now it’s back up again and tomorrow it could be even better or worse, who knows.Basically, stuff changes all the time so it’s better to focus on the present for a good 5 seconds and then move the fuck on because whatever’s bothering me in the present could be gone the next morning. Last month I was 100% sure I was ace as fuck, now I’m considering I might actually be demi.
22. Favorite place you visited this year?I mostly went traveling on my own and with my mom this year, strangely enough... I honestly can’t decide between going to Phantasialand with my friend from Germany or to the Harry Potter studios with my mom... Germany was fun because I did the 5 hour drive on my own and it was actually kind of relaxing and fun? Also Phantasialand was absolutely magnificent and seeing Debby again was
24. Did you keep any New Year’s Resolutions?I don’t remember making New Year’s Resolutions in January because I was 99% sure I wasn’t gonna keep them anyway. I was planning this summer to start eating more salads and go swimming every to weeks. I did the salad thing but the swimming completely faded from my mind... Woops. I guess, the resolution I have every year is to keep growing, which I think I definitely did this year. I’ve gotten more responsible, more independent, less rash, more neutral, more in control of my own emotions, I’ve learned to say ‘no’ more, I’ve learned to not let people walk over me, even when they yell at me in a rage that I’m just being selfish, I’ve learned to grow past people who refuse to mature and I’ve learned to trust again with lots of breaks (baby steps on that last one, traumas are hard to overcome).
All by all, a little of an ‘ugh’ year, but still a step up the ladder, all be it a small step after tumbling down two :p
Spartan Race training: status update
I’ve been dying to write an update about my Spartan Race training here.  My last post about the topic was when I was in the midst of some pretty serious doubts, insecurities, worries, and PAIN.  I’m happy to report that I recovered from that pectoral strain, and have been training steadily since that time.  I even trained during the recovery, by resting my upper body a lot and doing more lower body strengthening and running.  Its been a slow and steady process, but happily, I’m seeing some results.  Videos!
My first Olympus Wall bell, about 7 weeks into training, and many many days of feeling wracked with doubt if I’d ever be able to conquer this thing:
youtube
My first successful foray into Ring Swings - still working on this skill, but I’m making progress in mastering Side to Side momentum, which is an integral skill in tackling many OCR obstacles.  This was about 9 weeks into training:
youtube
Here is a list of the obstacles that I have been able to complete successfully thus far.  By my count, there are 13.5 obstacles that I am conquering successfully.  There are like 3.5 obstacles that remain thorns in my side.  I am actually hoping to find a way to get 2.5 of these down, AT LEAST ONCE EACH, before my race in two weeks.  Then there is one remaining, that I have a feeling I may not be able to get in time for this race.  But I WILL try.
1)  20′ Vertical cargo net - ascent and descent (*the Spartan Race actually has an A-frame cargo net, which my trainer tells me should be easier than this vertical one)
2)  Bucket Brigade - carrying a 50 lb. bucket around his entire house three times
3)  Sandbag Carry - ditto the above but with a 40 lb. sandbag
4)  Hercules Hoist
5)  Rope Climb - I mastered the S-wrap technique around 3-4 weeks into training, but about 2 weeks ago, I gave the J-hook a whirl and VOILA - I got it!!  This has since become my go-to technique b/c its faster, so less time taxing the arms.
6)  Monkey Bars
7) Ring Swing (see above video)
8)  Atlas Ball
9) Z-wall
10)  Olympus Wall
11)  4′ Wall
12)  6′ Wall
13) 7′ Wall
14) 8′ Wall   ***THIS is my 0.5 obstacle, in that I can complete it with assistance, which is permitted when running the race as part of a team, which I am.  You can have a teammate give you a boost till you reach the top of the wall with your fingertips, OR you can use this wooden block step at the bottom to reach the top, then pull up to climb.  But the hardcore way of doing the 8′ wall - the SPARTAN way - is to get a running start, then use a leg as a lever to boost up till you hook your fingers over the top of the wall.  I’ve been trying and trying, but I just can’t seem to master the footing of that boost step quite yet.  I am going to keep trying, though - I have gotten SO close, so many times.  I just might get it.
Potential obstacles remaining in the pipeline:
15)   Spear Toss.  This is where you toss a long, 5-6′ spear into this huge hay-bale effigy of a Spartan dude, and you must impale the hay with the spear or forfeit 30 burpees.  I WANT TO GET THIS OBSTACLE, goddammit.  One tiny flick of the wrist, versus THIRTY BURPEES?!  YASSSS.  I really really want to get this one.  I’ve bee practicing with my trainer, and my aim is excellent, the trajectory of the spear off my hands is good - but I can’t seem to put enough OOMPH behind the spear to make the distance and/or get it to impale the hay.  It usually sort of descends and hits the stand holding up the hay, or it just doesn’t cover the distance - I’m about 6 inches short, and it is SO frustrating because I’m SO CLOSE.  I really want to get this one!
I’m so committed to getting this one, that I’ve done a crazy thing - I went to a feed and garden store, and bought a giant bale of hay, and constructed a makeshift effigy in my backyard.  Then I went to Home Depot and bought a broom handle and a long nail, and I’m making a spear.  I’m practicing every chance I get, starting this weekend.
Haaaaaay!  (and yeah, that made a mess in my car)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(motivation to make my target - don't want to have to fish my spear out of the lake)
16)  The Bender.
This is an obstacle that I *think* I might be able to manage at the actual race, but in practice - it has been giving me trouble.  The reason why is because the equipment that my personal trainer has at his facility is actually a more challenging setup of the Bender than what the Spartan organization actually provides to its racers.
My coach’s Bender:
Tumblr media
... versus, the Spartan Bender:
Tumblr media
So, you can see that on my coach’s rig, the formation is more of a straight X, or two intersecting diagonal structures.  The Spartan rig is more of an arched shape.  Also, my coach’s rig has this black plywood solid wall type thing at the top, whereas the Spartan rig is a ladder-like thing with bars.  These are important differences, because an arch is easier to climb than an inverted diagonal, plus the open areas between bars are much easier to use for footholds, for hooking an arm or leg or elbow around, etc., than a solid plywood structure, which is way harder to grip and maneuver around.  So, I’m kind of hopeful about the actual Bender on the race, if it is presented to me.  I am *almost* able to do my coach’s rig right now, but I’m not quite there.  I went REALLY REALLY hard on it this week, and unfortunately didn’t emerge unscathed - I got seriously banged up trying to climb over that farking plywood thing!  When trying to climb, and way high up in the air, you have to use your upper arms and elbows to “hook in” and anchor yourself as you heave your body over.  It takes TONS of strength, and you’re also super tense/nervous b/c you’re up so high - its a scary and difficult combination.  As close as I came, I just couldn’t get it - and because of the tension and force with which I was trying to keep my “hooks” firm, I managed to bless myself with these gnarly bruises all over my arms:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oof.  Sexy.
But I really believe I wouldn’t have done all this damage if I hadn’t have had to hook in so hard, and if I could have used my legs to step more securely on/around bars.  So.  We’ll see if I’m right at the race.
And... the final obstacle on my list that remains unconquered, and one that I’m not sure I’m gonna get in time for this race is.....
17)  THE TWISTER.
I’ll just leave you with this video, from some random Spartan racer on the interwebz.  And all I’ll say is - holy shit.  I have tried, a few times actually.  And, I definitely can’t do this yet.  #notworthy
youtube
Anyway.  So, out of 17 listed obstacles, I am hopefully going to be able to give a GOOD, SOLID SHOT to 14 of them, and hopefully I’ll get lucky on #15 and #16. And I will try #17, and eat my burpees if/when I can’t do it.  That’s the plan.
Oh, and the plan is to run, of course.  A lot.  It is a 5K race also, after all.  So I’ve been running a lot, and per my trainer and every other Spartan racer’s advice, I’ve been trying to do as much off-road running on trails and natural terrain as I possibly can.  This has, delightfully, meant that I’ve gotten to know my local public parks!  Its been awesome!  My favorite park is one near my house, that has over 12 miles of AMAZING dirt bike paths.  With their twisted tree roots, rocky sections, embankments, hills, valleys, rickety wooden bridges, and dusty, tire-worn grooves - its been great practice for trail running and uneven terrain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sometimes trail running means encountering REALLY creepy, decapitated stuffed animals that are being used as trail markers..... ?
Tumblr media
Considering that only 11 short weeks ago, I was seriously unable to do ANY of this - - I have to say, I’m super proud of myself.
And, aside from the physical skills and confidence I’ve acquired, I’ve also acquired two other things:  1) a large collection of fitness selfies, and 2) SHITLOADS of ripped calluses on my hands.  ABSOLUTE SHITLOADS.
Fitness selfies:
Beautycounter LEAD Conference Recap - The Fitnessista
and WE SAW MICHAEL BUBLÉ.
(I’m not even going to hide my creeper status. And don’t worry, my mouth didn’t actually touch the poster.)
Hi friends! How’s the morning going? I’m just getting back from a whirlwind trip to Phoenix for the Beautycounter LEAD conference… and to see Michael Bublé, my favorite ever.
I got into Phoenix on Thursday morning, and met up with Arsy and Tina at the adorable Airbnb where we’d be staying. It was my first Airbnb experience and I was beyond impressed with the whole thing.
Check out the cuteness!
It was in a neighborhood filled with unique older houses, and they completely gutted and redid the interior. The wood floors and tiling in the bathroom were gorgeous, along with exposed brick, modern art, and unique touches (like the book selection in each bedroom).
Arsy surprised us with little goodie bags on each of our beds, with Hu chocolates, travel Cote nail polishes, Bee’s wrap, the best hair ties, a Beautycounter pen, and a sweet card. She also stocked the fridge with some healthy essentials, cold brews, and waters.
I’ve been working with Arsy for almost 3 years and it was my first time meeting her in person. Of course, she was just as kind and lovely as I expected, and I had such a great time hanging out with her and Tina all weekend.
Thursday night, we had our team dinner at True Food, and then Friday morning, it was straight into the official festivities. We had quite a few sessions on Friday, and each one left me feeling more inspired, motivated, and grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to work for such a respected and innovative company. (Beautycounter is the #1 Googled beauty brand of 2018 and the top clean skincare brand in the world.) They generally care for the health of all living beings on this planet, and are constantly working to impart change in the beauty industry, which is severely unregulated. The last federal safety law for cosmetics was passed in 1938!! We’re actively working to get this changed and make clean products accessible to everyone. This means no matter what store you go to and what brand you purchase, you should be able to have have the confidence that they were manufactured without endocrine disrupters, known carcinogens, and harmful preservatives.
My very favorite quote from the weekend:
– The greatest gift you can give anyone who loves you is your own wellbeing
While there was a lot of motivational talk, they also addressed burnout and importance of paying attention to what truly matters: your family, your health, and your relationships. I love how much they emphasized balance and taking the time to share your life with those you love and make yourself a priority.
We also had the opportunity to hear Gregg Renfrew speak. She’s our CEO and the Founder of Beautycounter and she’s so.darn.real. The entire room of 1700 was captivated the entire time she was talking. She was so encouraging, humble, and generously shared her knowledge and inspiration with us all.
They also had some pretty solid snack breaks and lunch in between the presentations. 🙂
Friday afternoon, the Pilot picked us up from the conference and we headed to the house to get ready for the evening. The girls went to another team dinner at a downtown hotel, while the Pilot and I enjoyed a sushi date at Moira Sushi before Michael Buble.
(Shoes are here // dress is here — got it from Rent the Runway and was so pumped it actually fit. I feel like it’s so hard to tell what will work from the sizing but the S was just right)
We arrived at the arena, ordered wine in a can for me + beer for him, walked to our awesome seats (!) and I buckled up for the best concert experience of my life. I’m a HUGE Michael Bublé fan – I sporadically listen to his music all year and just switch to his Christmas album for November and December – so I was expecting a lot, but it was beyond anything I could have imagined. His perfect voice, the set design, the orchestra, his backup singers, everything. Just.SO.freaking.good.
(He started off with “Feelin’ Good” and I screamed like a teenager at a BTO concert.)
#1) He is HILARIOUS. He was cracking a ton of jokes in between songs, many of which were gloriously inappropriate, and the Pilot and I were laughing our faces off. I had to keep myself from breaking into the full-on dinosaur cry during Home and one of his newer songs, Forever Now. If you want to get a glimpse of what I was feeling, listen to the song, and then picture in your mind a child’s bedroom and how it changes from when they’re born (a nursery with sweet printed wallpaper, a crib, and a rocker) until they MOVE out (a large bed and a room strewn with moving boxes, to completely empty room). That’s what they flashed on the arched screen above the stage and I think they pretty much wanted to pull my heart out of my body. Of course, all of his lighthearted jokes and the fact that he doesn’t take himself too seriously kept me from crying too hard.
2) He is so grateful to all of his supporters. Multiple times he thanked us for spending our money and our time to be at his concert. He said that his supporters lifted their family while they went through something absolutely heartbreaking, and was so heartfelt and genuine in thanking the audience. You can just tell he’s a really good guy.
3) I tried to meet him but I failed. So here’s the thing, in college and my early 20s, I got backstage after concerts if I wanted to meet the band or singer. It’s not because I’m cool or had a VIP pass, but I’d just casually go to the side of the stage and ask security if I could just go back and get a photo with whomever. You’d think it would be a fail but it worked every time! I would just be chill about it and I think they saw a young non-threteaning kid and were like, “Go. Live your dream.” I didn’t know if I would work for Michael Bublé because, I don’t know, I’m like 15 years older now, BUT I figured this was my only chance and went for it. Unfortunately, they did all of the meet and greets before the show, not after. So when I went to ask if I could pleeeeeease go back and take a pic, security told me they did all of that stuff earlier. It’s NBD, but I did try. #shameless #dontcurr
The Pilot and I stayed at Westin, which was lovely, and then Saturday morning, we grabbed a quick breakfast at Coronado (a cute vegetarian cafe!) before he hit the road back to Tucson and I headed back to the conference.
I got there just in time to learn about the new products from our Product Development team, and get excited! There’s so much good stuff on the way, including a face cream that supposed to feel luxurious and gorgeous like La Mer, but with clean ingredients. So pumped about this! I’ll definitely share more info when it’s on the way, but our new line was modeled after Asian skincare rituals (yas yas yassss) and is going through clinical and client trials now. I’ll also have the chance to try it out before it’s released and will absolutely share my experience.
Beautycounter is also transitioning to more glass, less plastic, and are going to include refill options.
We attended sessions on social media and coaching, and then had a delicious lunch.
When I left the conference, I felt energized and excited to implement various action plans in my team and with my business. As you guys know, I’m very particular about brand alignments. For everyone I say, “Yes” to, there are at least 20-30 “No, thank you”. When I first joined Beautycounter, I knew I liked the products and I loved their mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. I didn’t know that it was so much more than that, and that it would have such a huge positive impact on my life and business.
(Jumpsuit is here // shoes are here. Jumpsuit is also from Rent the Runway and I wish I could have kept it!)
Behind this mission, there are thousands of women working hard to change the beauty industry, sharing the products with those they love, and taking their success into their own hands.
I was so thankful to FINALLY meet Teri, who feels like my BFF after all of these years and I still hadn’t met in person! I also got to chat with Lexi, Juli, Cassy, and so many lovely women on our team.
Having this blog has been one of the biggest blessings in my life because it’s enabled me to connect with a motivating, incredible community of women (and dudes!). One of the best parts: I can do it anywhere! As a military wife, this was critical since we were moving every 2 years or so, which this makes it very hard to get and keep a traditional job. Beautycounter gives that same flexibility to those who want to work on their own schedule, wherever they want, and carve their own path. It has been one of the best things I’ve added to my business, and it’s fun, easy, and I get to meet with connect with new people. The money potential is bananas – if you want to talk about it, please email me – and it’s cool to be able to make an income while supporting a company that’s championing for change. If you’d like to make a transition to safer skincare products, or a tiny voice is telling you that consulting may be for you, please email me: [email protected]
Well, I’m off to unpack my suitcase, only to RE-pack it for a short trip to Portland for a brand meeting. I hope you have a happy Monday!
xo
Gina
Tell me, friends: first concert experience? If you could see anyone live, who would it be?! My first concert was Boyz II Men in 5th grade. “Motown Philly back again….” Also, has anyone met Michael Buble?! Please tell me everything.
Calling all insta-queens and kings. Likes and follows are cheap. You came here because you want to learn how to turn all those hearts and “yassss queen”s into cash money.
It’s actually easier than you think to profit off a good, active following on Instagram. Big influencers make well into six figures off the app alone, but it’s not just the IG celebs that make money now. Businesses are starting to realize the benefit of using leveraging of “micro-influencers” (at least 3-5k followers) to spread the word of their product, and they’re paying decent money.
In fact, studies are starting to show that brands that use smaller influencers build more trust with their customers since everyone knows the big dogs are getting paid. Engagement with accounts that have under 1 million followers is at 8%, while engagement with 1m+ accounts is only 4%. (1)
You can get started at a few thousand followers making side money, but once you get up to 100k+, you can actually make a full-time living. Here are some of the best ways to squeeze a profit out of your VSCO filters and witty emoji captions.
39. Social net worth
The first step to making money on Instagram is knowing how much your social media accounts are worth to brands. You might think $20 for a quick post sounds like good money when you could actually be charging $200.
The great thing about making money with social media marketing is that it’s not about how many hours you spend, it’s about how much influence you have.
Social Bluebook is a tool that helps you calculate how much to charge based on your reach and engagement. (2)
38. Instagram business account
If you’re trying to turn your Instagram into an online business, it’s only natural you should turn your Instagram account into a business account.
Instagram business accounts let you run ads, add contact buttons to your profile, add Instagram story links (the “swipe up” feature) when you reach 10,000 followers, and view analytics for your Instagram account (among other features), each important to growing your following and raking in Insta-profits. (3)
37. Post consistently
Post the same amount of times every day, and post on the same days each week. When your followers know when to expect your next post, they’ll constantly be looking forward to it popping up on your feed.
36. Engage with your followers
This one should be obvious, but so many influencers are missing out on building their fan base because they don’t engage their audience well.
Create content that gets your followers engaging with you, whether it’s through your own hashtag, Instagram live videos, or you responding to their comments on your posts. Fans go wild when their favorite influencer responds to them.
35. Travel blogging
The market’s a little saturated, but the rewards are endless. Think luxury vacations, resort stays in Bali, free tours.
If you can snap stunning landscapes while you travel (bonus points if you pose a girl in a sundress and a sunhat in front of them), you can rake in all kinds of press trips from tourism boards that will treat you like royalty.
34. Health and fitness
Personal trainers and aspiring fitness influencers ought to be using Instagram to show off that bod because, after all, that’s kinda their product.
Take videos/montages of you doing workouts with long captions describing the movements you’re performing. Post pictures of your meal prepping routine. Sprinkle in a dash of motivational content. Nab some sponsorships from fitness equipment brands, gyms, supplement companies, etc.
When you build a following, you can create workout programs and nutrition plans for your audience to buy. Maybe even launch your own supplement line. If you’re a personal trainer, you can also land clients this way.
33. Mobile app
Instagram is primarily used on smartphones, and since it’s very visual-focused, it’s the perfect social media app on which to advertise your own mobile app.
In fact, when you use mobile app ads on Instagram, you get a call to action button in the ad that takes users right to their respective app stores. Make a visually appealing photo or video ad to entice your audience to click that call to action and download your app.
32. Fashionista
If you’re that person who’s always posting #ootd pics and strutting into casual events in a leopard print fur coat, take it to the ‘gram. User @nycxclothes makes $1,600 in side money per month posting her outfits on Instagram, and she’s barely over 5k followers. (4) (5)
Stylinity gives you discount codes for clothes and shoes – you feature the clothes, give your followers the discount code, and every time one of them uses it, you get a commission. (6)
31. Music
Selena Gomez reportedly makes over half a mil per post to advertise various brands and their products. You might not have her musical fame, but there’s money to be made on Instagram if you’re a musician. (7)
Your content could include live sneak peeks of new tracks, sharing some gig/tour photos, free giveaways of your band merch, you get the picture. Link your new tracks/links to your music streaming platform of choice in your bio.
Get big enough, and you’ll be able to land influencer deals for both music and non-music products and companies. You might even land a record deal.
30. Freelance business
If you’re a #freelancer, you can add Instagram to your repertoire of lead generation sources. Clean out any old party pics to make your account look professional, then start uploading relevant content, such as sneak peeks of projects you’re working on or “behind-the-scenes” pictures. Use hashtags like #freelancer and #solopreneur in your posts to boost your visibility, and network with other freelancers and small businesses with niche-specific hashtags. (8)
You could also use Instagram Live. For example, if you’re a freelance writer, you could teach some SEO tips or content marketing tactics to your Live viewers. (9)
29. Network marketing
It’s far from my first choice, but it is true that you can make good money through MLM if you manage to push your way to the top 10 (and lose your shame along the way). Instagram is used heavily in most network marketing circles, but usually just as a means of annoying friends until they block you.
My advice? Start a niche Instagram accounts, such as a fitness account, and grow it. Once you have 50k+ followers (and good engagement), THEN join a fitness MLM and start hawking the product. Not the other way around.
28. Used clothes
If you’ve got style, the #ShopMyCloset trend is becoming a side money stream for fashionistas everywhere. Basically start your own virtual high-end thrift store out of your closet.
Get a good camera, some models, and some photoshop skills. Snap photos of clothes you don’t want anymore and post them with a price and the right hashtags. BloomDesignerFinds, Instagram thrift store gone high-end consignment shop, makes 30-40 sales per day on Instagram. (10)
27. Foodie photos
If the only thing you can make for dinner is reservations but you still love to eat, consider starting a foodie account. Instead of going through the work of making all your own food and writing up recipe books, you basically just get to be one of the basics in the corner of that SoHo cafe snapping photos of her mochaccino until it gets cold.
Except, if your photos are good and your following is big, restaurants and cafes will pay $$$ for you to make an appearance. The 20-something girls from @New_Fork_City make a full-time living instagramming their avocado toast. Nothing basic about that. (11)
26. YouTube
Double down with an Instagram account that funnels people to your YouTube channel. You don’t have to be a famous vlogger with all kinds of video equipment. If you’re into fashion, post “haul” or videos where you show people your recent purchases. Post “satisfying” videos where you do crap like frost cakes and play with homemade slime.
Once you get enough viewers, you can join YouTube’s Partner Program and start raking in profits off their ads and other Partner money-making methods. (12)
25. Beauty blogger
The beauty industry is now worth $445 billion, and it #cantstopwontstop. Forbes called it a “gold mine for self-made women.” (13)
If you’re good at makeup, start an Instagram showcasing your skills (pair it with a YouTube channel for added influence). At first, you’ll just get free product from brands, but once you grow a following, they’ll start paying you big money to use their stuff in your videos.
24. Photography
Sell your photos! It’s the most obvious route, but if you’re good, start selling prints of your Instagram photos and taking bookings for photo shoots.
Believe it or not, print photography is not dead… if you have a following. Controversial Brooklyn photographer @arnold_daniel decided to put his Instagram photos up for sale and made $15k in one night. (14) (15)
In addition, you could slap your photos on products like mugs, shirts, and other items and sell them for profit. See the next tip.
23. e-Commerce
Worldwide e-commerce sales hit $1.9 trillion last year. (16) Get in on that. Start an e-Commerce store, post captivating photos of your product, and profit. If you have the budget, run some Instagram ads while you’re at it.
A teenager got rich on Instagram selling homemade slime, just because her photos were so good. She’s got 1 million followers now and makes $3,000/month while in high school. Baller. (17)
22. Online courses
If your account is doing well (and I don’t even mean a six-figure following, anything over 10k is good), consider starting up some courses or webinars on how to grow your Instagram. This will automate some of your income so you can passively rake it in every time someone buys one of your courses.
Get started by offering a free webinar on Instagram live (promote it heavily beforehand so people show up). Save the video and post it up for people to see. At the end of the video, offer access to more tips and tricks through a paid e-course that people can purchase through the link in your bio.
21. License photos
If you’ve got some photography skills and you want to go 100% remote (recommended) instead of dragging your equipment to photoshoots of your friends’ babies, you can make some passive income licensing your photos. The best part, you can license out photos you’ve already posted on the gram, so you don’t even have to do any more work.
Websites and apps like twenty20 and Foap are a great place to start. (18) (19) Brands post “Missions” on Foap that you can snag if you’ve got relevant photos, and pay starts at $100. Also, check out Shutterstock and Getty Images. (20) (21)
20. Cooking
How many Food Network and Travel Channel hosts nowadays started out on social media? Just make sure you take food photos with good lighting and baller set-up. No one’s gonna follow a food account with gross looking photos.
Instagram hit @joythebaker started posting photos of donuts and pies she baked, and now she’s selling out book signings for her most recent cookbook and opening her own bake shop/cooking school in New Orleans. (22)
19. Post memes
This has got to be as easy as it gets. Literally just post funny memes and get famous. They don’t even have to be your original memes, either.
Thefatjewish is one of the most popular accounts on Instagram, and he rarely posts original work, just reposts other people’s funny crap. He’s got over 10 million followers and a movie deal. (23)
FuckJerry, another huge meme account, reportedly makes a whopping $30,000 per sponsored post, just for tagging a brand in a meme they make. (24)
18. Capture leads
Lots of Instagrammers make a commission off affiliate links (the “see link in bio”), but with Peerfly, you don’t even have to get people to buy stuff. They pay on your click-through rate, so as long as people click the link you give them, you get paid. (25)
Pick a niche (make it something you like), learn about analytics and hashtags, and build up a following.
17. Sell your account
If you’re good at getting likes and follows, you don’t even have to come up with a monetization strategy. Just build up a following and then sell your account on websites like Fameswap and ViralAccounts. (26) (27)
You can actually make good money doing this, especially if you know how to grow fast. Accounts with 500k to 1 million followers can sell for 6 figures. (28)
In a similar vein, you could also flip Instagram accounts and profit if you know how to spot promising accounts.
16. Start a blog
This is one of the most popular ways to monetize your Instagram account. It is a lot of work, but you can build anything from a blog with good traffic.
Start your account based on a specific, unsaturated niche and build a blog to go with it. Focus on capturing subscriptions to your blog, because having a mailing list is where the real money is at.
15. Content tasks
If you don’t have the time to build full-on sponsors or build out affiliate links, Crowdtap offers all kinds of “content missions” that you can pick up and complete for some side money. (29)
You don’t have to have a massive following, either. Often times, 10k, or even 5k, is enough.
14. Join a hashtag campaign
Another solid way to make quick side money is with Indahash. (30) This app gives you payouts for posting content with certain hashtags and brand tags in the caption.
Say you’re eating out at McDonald’s and McD’s is doing a hashtag campaign at that moment. Snap a pic of you with a McNugget stuffed smile, include the proper tags, and collect your reward.
13. Sell shoutouts
Leverage your Instagram popularity and help smaller influencers out by selling shoutouts. Shoutcart is a marketplace where you can buy and sell simple shoutouts. (31)
Make a profile and name your price for shouting out another account in one of your posts. The going rates usually aren’t huge ($10-$50), but they provide the photo and the caption, so it’s basically passive income.
12. Sponsored posts
If you’re looking for the big bucks, sponsored posts are it. A survey of over 5,000 major influencers said that 42% of them charge between $200-$400 per post. Yep, $400 just to post a photo on Instagram. Accounts with followers in the millions make several grand per post. (32)
Of course, you’ve got to build a big and loyal following before brands will come to you offering that kind of money. In the meantime, sites like TapInfluence and Influez are great for finding sponsors, even if you’re a “micro-influencer.” (33) (34)
11. Run Instagram ads for others
If you’ve got the ads skills and you know how to identify good influencers in a specific niche, you could start an Instagram ads business and make help make other businesses money with Instagram ads and sponsored posts.
Companies will pay you handsomely, provided you bring them results.
10. Affiliate marketing
Affiliate marketing is another big money-making on Instagram. ShareASale and ClickBank are good places to start. They give you links to products, and if someone clicks and buys, you make a commission. (35) (36)
If you’re trying to make a living off this though, Instagram has notoriously poor clickthrough rates as the only spot you can permanently place a link is in your bio. While you the feature allowing users to swipe up on stories to get to a link has improved this, you’ll really want to start up a blog or affiliate e-commerce site and perhaps funnel Instagram followers there to make the most of this stream of income.
9. Sell fan merch
Instead of selling generic products, try coming up with your own unique products that revolve around your Instagram account. You can use a dropshipper so you still don’t have to worry about holding inventory.
Doug the Pug, this one guy’s pug, went viral on Instagram. So the owner started a Doug the Pug store that sells Doug the Pug coffee mugs, tee shirts, and all kinds of other things that are probably printed for pennies on the dollar off in China. (37) (38)
8. Share discounts
People love saving money more than they loved Jennifer Hudson in 2009.
Start an account that shares links to coupons and discount codes via Rakuten/eBates. Every time someone clicks your Rakuten/eBates link, you’ll get a profit. (39)
7. Lifestyle ‘grammer
They’re a dime a dozen nowadays, but if you can manage to make it in the lifestyle niche, it’s the best way to get that royal lifestyle. The niche is broad and can cover everything from designer clothing and furniture to luxury trips to Dubai. Lifestyle is exclusive – RewardStyle is a good influencer network for up and comings, but it’s invitation only. (40)
All you need to do is make your life look perfect. Being attractive helps a lot, too. This is definitely a shallow niche.
6. Amazon affiliate
If you don’t want to go through the work of combing through potential affiliate partners to find the ones who offer good rates, Amazon’s affiliate program is still one of the most solid out there. They offer up to 10% commission, which is not bad. And you get that commission on their entire Amazon purchase, not just the item you linked to. (41)
5. Dropshipping
Dropshipping is an e-commerce method where you sell a product on your site but never actually have to deal with inventory. Instead, you place the same order with a third party who manufactures and ships the product for you.
It’s popular because it’s so hands-off, but it’s also very saturated. However, if you can come up with some great products that are easily marketed on Instagram, maybe you could make it. Hint: posting nothing but cheesy stock product photos will get you nowhere.
In fact, a good way to make sales is to order a few samples of your dropshipping products and pay influencers in your niche to take pictures with them.
4. Etsy
Calling all grandmas at heart – if you’re good at crafting and don’t want to invest in your own e-commerce site, sell stuff on Etsy. Bump your Instagram following up and use it as a funnel to your Etsy store.
Usually, this is just side money, but Etsy shop owner Three Birds Nest nets a million in sales every year, and she doesn’t even make her own stuff. (42)
3. Self-publish a book
Self-publishing on Amazon has great profit margins, but you have to know how to market your book to make any sales.
Create an Instagram account that’s relevant to your genre, or a book account (accounts like @bookwrms net hundreds for sponsored posts), and market your self-published book to this built-in audience. If you price it at $2.99 you get to keep 70% of the profits.
2. Consulting
Good consultants make 6-figures a year, easily. (43)
If you can grow an Instagram account and a brand for yourself, based in any niche, to 100k+ followers, it’s proof to companies that you know your way around social media marketing. They’ll shell out thousands for you to share your secrets.
1. SEO for local businesses
Honestly, having an Instagram hustle sounds like the life, but building up actual followers who are loyal to you (not just bots) takes a lot of time (think years), a lot of work, knowledge of things like analytics and marketing, and a lot of luck. Going viral isn’t something you can plan. Being hot and independently wealthy also helps too.
In the end, there’s a much easier and more consistent way to make good money online, and it’s by focusing on capturing leads. You don’t have to make sales, you just have to get people to enter their info. And you don’t have to have to cross your fingers and hope for a viral post, because there’s a proven formula to SEO.
Leads are the life blood of small business. They’re worth good money…and businesses will pay good money if you can hand them over. Think 4-figure checks.
Plus, you’re honing in on a specific niche in a specific town. So instead of competing with 800 million Instagram users, you’re competing with a couple people in Columbus, Ohio who are selling garage door services. Easy.
Ranking the 39 best ways to make money on Instagram in 2019
Calling all insta-queens and kings. Likes and follows are cheap. You came here because you want to learn how to turn all those hearts and “yassss queen”s into cash money.
It’s actually easier than you think to profit off a good, active following on Instagram. Big influencers make well into six figures off the app alone, but it’s not just the IG celebs that make money now. Businesses are starting to realize the benefit of using leveraging of “micro-influencers” (at least 3-5k followers) to spread the word of their product, and they’re paying decent money.
In fact, studies are starting to show that brands that use smaller influencers build more trust with their customers since everyone knows the big dogs are getting paid. Engagement with accounts that have under 1 million followers is at 8%, while engagement with 1m+ accounts is only 4%. (1)
You can get started at a few thousand followers making side money, but once you get up to 100k+, you can actually make a full-time living. Here are some of the best ways to squeeze a profit out of your VSCO filters and witty emoji captions.
39. Social net worth
The first step to making money on Instagram is knowing how much your social media accounts are worth to brands. You might think $20 for a quick post sounds like good money when you could actually be charging $200.
The great thing about making money with social media marketing is that it’s not about how many hours you spend, it’s about how much influence you have.
Social Bluebook is a tool that helps you calculate how much to charge based on your reach and engagement. (2)
38. Instagram business account
If you’re trying to turn your Instagram into an online business, it’s only natural you should turn your Instagram account into a business account.
Instagram business accounts let you run ads, add contact buttons to your profile, add Instagram story links (the “swipe up” feature) when you reach 10,000 followers, and view analytics for your Instagram account (among other features), each important to growing your following and raking in Insta-profits. (3)
37. Post consistently
Post the same amount of times every day, and post on the same days each week. When your followers know when to expect your next post, they’ll constantly be looking forward to it popping up on your feed.
36. Engage with your followers
This one should be obvious, but so many influencers are missing out on building their fan base because they don’t engage their audience well.
Create content that gets your followers engaging with you, whether it’s through your own hashtag, Instagram live videos, or you responding to their comments on your posts. Fans go wild when their favorite influencer responds to them.
35. Travel blogging
The market’s a little saturated, but the rewards are endless. Think luxury vacations, resort stays in Bali, free tours.
If you can snap stunning landscapes while you travel (bonus points if you pose a girl in a sundress and a sunhat in front of them), you can rake in all kinds of press trips from tourism boards that will treat you like royalty.
34. Health and fitness
Personal trainers and aspiring fitness influencers ought to be using Instagram to show off that bod because, after all, that’s kinda their product.
Take videos/montages of you doing workouts with long captions describing the movements you’re performing. Post pictures of your meal prepping routine. Sprinkle in a dash of motivational content. Nab some sponsorships from fitness equipment brands, gyms, supplement companies, etc.
When you build a following, you can create workout programs and nutrition plans for your audience to buy. Maybe even launch your own supplement line. If you’re a personal trainer, you can also land clients this way.
33. Mobile app
Instagram is primarily used on smartphones, and since it’s very visual-focused, it’s the perfect social media app on which to advertise your own mobile app.
In fact, when you use mobile app ads on Instagram, you get a call to action button in the ad that takes users right to their respective app stores. Make a visually appealing photo or video ad to entice your audience to click that call to action and download your app.
32. Fashionista
If you’re that person who’s always posting #ootd pics and strutting into casual events in a leopard print fur coat, take it to the ‘gram. User @nycxclothes makes $1,600 in side money per month posting her outfits on Instagram, and she’s barely over 5k followers. (4) (5)
Stylinity gives you discount codes for clothes and shoes – you feature the clothes, give your followers the discount code, and every time one of them uses it, you get a commission. (6)
Your content could include live sneak peeks of new tracks, sharing some gig/tour photos, free giveaways of your band merch, you get the picture. Link your new tracks/links to your music streaming platform of choice in your bio.
Get big enough, and you’ll be able to land influencer deals for both music and non-music products and companies. You might even land a record deal.
30. Freelance business
If you’re a #freelancer, you can add Instagram to your repertoire of lead generation sources. Clean out any old party pics to make your account look professional, then start uploading relevant content, such as sneak peeks of projects you’re working on or “behind-the-scenes” pictures. They offer up to 10% commission, which is not bad. And you get that commission on their entire Amazon purchase, not just the item you linked to. (41)
5. Dropshipping
Dropshipping is an e-commerce method where you sell a product on your site but never actually have to deal with inventory. Instead, you place the same order with a third party who manufactures and ships the product for you.
It’s popular because it’s so hands-off, but it’s also very saturated. However, if you can come up with some great products that are easily marketed on Instagram, maybe you could make it. Hint: posting nothing but cheesy stock product photos will get you nowhere.
In fact, a good way to make sales is to order a few samples of your dropshipping products and pay influencers in your niche to take pictures with them.
4. Etsy
Calling all grandmas at heart – if you’re good at crafting and don’t want to invest in your own e-commerce site, sell stuff on Etsy. Bump your Instagram following up and use it as a funnel to your Etsy store.
Usually, this is just side money, but Etsy shop owner Three Birds Nest nets a million in sales every year, and she doesn’t even make her own stuff. (42)
3. Self-publish a book
Self-publishing on Amazon has great profit margins, but you have to know how to market your book to make any sales.
Create an Instagram account that’s relevant to your genre, or a book account (accounts like @bookwrms net hundreds for sponsored posts), and market your self-published book to this built-in audience. If you price it at $2.99 you get to keep 70% of the profits.
2. Consulting
Good consultants make 6-figures a year, easily. (43)
If you can grow an Instagram account and a brand for yourself, based in any niche, to 100k+ followers, it’s proof to companies that you know your way around social media marketing. They’ll shell out thousands for you to share your secrets.
1. SEO for local businesses
Honestly, having an Instagram hustle sounds like the life, but building up actual followers who are loyal to you (not just bots) takes a lot of time (think years), a lot of work, knowledge of things like analytics and marketing, and a lot of luck. Going viral isn’t something you can plan. Being hot and independently wealthy also helps too.
In the end, there’s a much easier and more consistent way to make good money online, and it’s by focusing on capturing leads. You don’t have to make sales, you just have to get people to enter their info. And you don’t have to have to cross your fingers and hope for a viral post, because there’s a proven formula to SEO.
Leads are the life blood of small business. They’re worth good money…and businesses will pay good money if you can hand them over. Think 4-figure checks.
Plus, you’re honing in on a specific niche in a specific town. So instead of competing with 800 million Instagram users, you’re competing with a couple people in Columbus, Ohio who are selling garage door services. Easy.
Beautycounter LEAD Conference Recap
and WE SAW MICHAEL BUBLÉ.
(I’m not even going to hide my creeper status. And don’t worry, my mouth didn’t actually touch the poster.)
Hi friends! How’s the morning going? I’m just getting back from a whirlwind trip to Phoenix for the Beautycounter LEAD conference… and to see Michael Bublé, my favorite ever.
I got into Phoenix on Thursday morning, and met up with Arsy and Tina at the adorable Airbnb where we’d be staying. It was my first Airbnb experience and I was beyond impressed with the whole thing.
Check out the cuteness!
It was in a neighborhood filled with unique older houses, and they completely gutted and redid the interior. The wood floors and tiling in the bathroom were gorgeous, along with exposed brick, modern art, and unique touches (like the book selection in each bedroom).
Arsy surprised us with little goodie bags on each of our beds, with Hu chocolates, travel Cote nail polishes, Bee’s wrap, the best hair ties, a Beautycounter pen, and a sweet card. She also stocked the fridge with some healthy essentials, cold brews, and waters.
I’ve been working with Arsy for almost 3 years and it was my first time meeting her in person. Of course, she was just as kind and lovely as I expected, and I had such a great time hanging out with her and Tina all weekend.
Thursday night, we had our team dinner at True Food, and then Friday morning, it was straight into the official festivities. We had quite a few sessions on Friday, and each one left me feeling more inspired, motivated, and grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to work for such a respected and innovative company. (Beautycounter is the #1 Googled beauty brand of 2018 and the top clean skincare brand in the world.) They generally care for the health of all living beings on this planet, and are constantly working to impart change in the beauty industry, which is severely unregulated. The last federal safety law for cosmetics was passed in 1938!! We’re actively working to get this changed and make clean products accessible to everyone. This means no matter what store you go to and what brand you purchase, you should be able to have have the confidence that they were manufactured without endocrine disrupters, known carcinogens, and harmful preservatives.
My very favorite quote from the weekend:
– The greatest gift you can give anyone who loves you is your own wellbeing
While there was a lot of motivational talk, they also addressed burnout and importance of paying attention to what truly matters: your family, your health, and your relationships. I love how much they emphasized balance and taking the time to share your life with those you love and make yourself a priority.
We also had the opportunity to hear Gregg Renfrew speak. She’s our CEO and the Founder of Beautycounter and she’s so.darn.real. The entire room of 1700 was captivated the entire time she was talking. She was so encouraging, humble, and generously shared her knowledge and inspiration with us all.
They also had some pretty solid snack breaks and lunch in between the presentations.
Friday afternoon, the Pilot picked us up from the conference and we headed to the house to get ready for the evening. The girls went to another team dinner at a downtown hotel, while the Pilot and I enjoyed a sushi date at Moira Sushi before Michael Buble.
(Shoes are here // dress is here — got it from Rent the Runway and was so pumped it actually fit. I feel like it’s so hard to tell what will work from the sizing but the S was just right) 8883621234
We arrived at the arena, ordered wine in a can for me + beer for him, walked to our awesome seats (!) and I buckled up for the best concert experience of my life. I’m a HUGE Michael Bublé fan – I sporadically listen to his music all year and just switch to his Christmas album for November and December – so I was expecting a lot, but it was beyond anything I could have imagined. His perfect voice, the set design, the orchestra, his backup singers, everything. Just.SO.freaking.good.
(He started off with “Feelin’ Good” and I screamed like a teenager at a BTO concert.)
#1) He is HILARIOUS. He was cracking a ton of jokes in between songs, many of which were gloriously inappropriate, and the Pilot and I were laughing our faces off. I had to keep myself from breaking into the full-on dinosaur cry during Home and one of his newer songs, Forever Now. If you want to get a glimpse of what I was feeling, listen to the song, and then picture in your mind a child’s bedroom and how it changes from when they’re born (a nursery with sweet printed wallpaper, a crib, and a rocker) until they MOVE out (a large bed and a room strewn with moving boxes, to completely empty room). That’s what they flashed on the arched screen above the stage and I think they pretty much wanted to pull my heart out of my body. Of course, all of his lighthearted jokes and the fact that he doesn’t take himself too seriously kept me from crying too hard.
2) He is so grateful to all of his supporters. Multiple times he thanked us for spending our money and our time to be at his concert. He said that his supporters lifted their family while they went through something absolutely heartbreaking, and was so heartfelt and genuine in thanking the audience. You can just tell he’s a really good guy.
3) I tried to meet him but I failed. So here’s the thing, in college and my early 20s, I got backstage after concerts if I wanted to meet the band or singer. It’s not because I’m cool or had a VIP pass, but I’d just casually go to the side of the stage and ask security if I could just go back and get a photo with whomever. You’d think it would be a fail but it worked every time! I would just be chill about it and I think they saw a young non-threteaning kid and were like, “Go. Live your dream.” I didn’t know if I would work for Michael Bublé because, I don’t know, I’m like 15 years older now, BUT I figured this was my only chance and went for it. Unfortunately, they did all of the meet and greets before the show, not after. So when I went to ask if I could pleeeeeease go back and take a pic, security told me they did all of that stuff earlier. It’s NBD, but I did try. #shameless #dontcurr
The Pilot and I stayed at Westin, which was lovely, and then Saturday morning, we grabbed a quick breakfast at Coronado (a cute vegetarian cafe!) before he hit the road back to Tucson and I headed back to the conference.
I got there just in time to learn about the new products from our Product Development team, and get excited! There’s so much good stuff on the way, including a face cream that supposed to feel luxurious and gorgeous like La Mer, but with clean ingredients. So pumped about this! I’ll definitely share more info when it’s on the way, but our new line was modeled after Asian skincare rituals (yas yas yassss) and is going through clinical and client trials now. I’ll also have the chance to try it out before it’s released and will absolutely share my experience.
Beautycounter is also transitioning to more glass, less plastic, and are going to include refill options.
We attended sessions on social media and coaching, and then had a delicious lunch.
When I left the conference, I felt energized and excited to implement various action plans in my team and with my business. As you guys know, I’m very particular about brand alignments. For everyone I say, “Yes” to, there are at least 20-30 “No, thank you”. When I first joined Beautycounter, I knew I liked the products and I loved their mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. I didn’t know that it was so much more than that, and that it would have such a huge positive impact on my life and business.
(Jumpsuit is here // shoes are here. Jumpsuit is also from Rent the Runway and I wish I could have kept it!)
Behind this mission, there are thousands of women working hard to change the beauty industry, sharing the products with those they love, and taking their success into their own hands.
I was so thankful to FINALLY meet Teri, who feels like my BFF after all of these years and I still hadn’t met in person! I also got to chat with Lexi, Juli, Cassy, and so many lovely women on our team.
Having this blog has been one of the biggest blessings in my life because it’s enabled me to connect with a motivating, incredible community of women (and dudes!). One of the best parts: I can do it anywhere! As a military wife, this was critical since we were moving every 2 years or so, which this makes it very hard to get and keep a traditional job. Beautycounter gives that same flexibility to those who want to work on their own schedule, wherever they want, and carve their own path. It has been one of the best things I’ve added to my business, and it’s fun, easy, and I get to meet with connect with new people. The money potential is bananas – if you want to talk about it, please email me – and it’s cool to be able to make an income while supporting a company that’s championing for change. If you’d like to make a transition to safer skincare products, or a tiny voice is telling you that consulting may be for you, please email me: [email protected]
Well, I’m off to unpack my suitcase, only to RE-pack it for a short trip to Portland for a brand meeting. I hope you have a happy Monday!
xo
Tell me, friends: first concert experience? If you could see anyone live, who would it be?! My first concert was Boyz II Men in 5th grade. “Motown Philly back again….” Also, has anyone met Michael Buble?! Please tell me everything.
