My favorite K-Drama Couples 2023- Spring 2024

NOTE: I tried to include 2022 but my list got too long :)

Moving (Bong-Seok & Hee-Soo, Joo-Won & Hye-Won & Doo-Shik & Mi-Hyun): It's very obvious by this list how much I love this drama and how many blorbo-from-my-shows it created for me. And I know I'm only reviewing couples, but I was blown away by this drama. I don't even LIKE superhero shows, but I made an exception for this one and I'm so glad I did. If you like character development and plays on good vs. evil, I highly rec this! Bong-Seok and Hee-Soo are one of my favorite couples EVER and I loved the softness and epic romance of Joo-Won & Hye-Won. (And we all know that scene at the rainy window with Bong-Seok and Hee-Soo). These couples are really EVERYTHING.

Tale of the Nine Tailed: 1938 (Lee-rang & Yeo-Hee): This is the only time I've ever watched a season two and liked it better than season one. It's probably because it featured my favorite tragic half fox Lee Rang and gave him a love line with a mermaid. The two are SO sweet together---SOB!

Tell me That You Love Me (Mo-Eun & Jin-Woo): Wow. Maybe one of the softest couples I've ever seen in existence. Just watching them together was like a warm blanket in front of a cozy fireplace. I didn't like the ending choice which is a shame, but the drama was super well done and I still think people should watch it. There is also a very cute high school couple too!

The Eighth Sense (Jae-Won & Ji Hyun): not to be dramatic (just kidding!) this is the best bl kdrama I've ever seen. Literally this is it! I don't even want to tell you about the couple because I want you to just watch it! I'm dying for the writer to make another one because we need more queer media like this one!

Crash Course In Romance (Haeng-Seon & Chi-Yeol): Give me a noona romance featuring a man who has not felt warmth in 1000 years (ok not literally but this dude needs to have a warm meal made by an amazing lady!) This drama fell apart at the end (this seems to be a theme this year) but the couple makes it worth watching.

King The Land (Gu-Won & Sa-Rang): If you're looking for a low stakes, totally fluffy, rom com with TONS of chemistry (featuring MY BIAS!), King the Land is for you. Amazing skinship, kisses and just like a really fun duo to watch. Plot? Not so much but there are a billion good moments-- just look at the tags: They are full of cuteness.

Love After Divorce Season 4 (Benita & Jerome): Listen, I know I'm cheating by putting a reality tv show on this list but if you're in the mood for one, I highly recommend this season (it's on Netflix). Benita and Jerome will steal your heart and they are still together! I'm rooting for them. <3

See you in my 19th Life (Ji-Eum & Seo-Ha, Da-Hoon & Cho-Won): My bias Shin Hye Sun kills it in this drama featuring past life romance. Honestly it's not fair because this drama is totally my vibe so I'm obviously going to love the mains. But when a drama gives you more than one love line and they are both interesting and lovely?? Chef's Kiss!

Dr. Slump (Jeong-Woo & Ha-Neul): This drama TOTALLY fell apart at the end and left us all very disappointed, but that's not because our leads weren't a perfect couple! They bonded over mental illness and even took their meds together. Communication: check. Comfort/Healing: check. Chemistry: check!

The Story of Park's Marriage Contract (Yun-Woo & Tae-Ha). You probably don't know this but I've been following Bae In Hyuk's career since we was in silly little web dramas. Seeing him as a lead is really wild! To be fair, he's not nearly the actor that Lee Se Young is, but do we care about that when there's a time slip romance drama featuring a historical lady who's been thrown into the future and has to fake marry someone who looks just like her de*d husband for reasons??

Seul’da iş hayatının içinde ezilerek yaşayan Lee Yeo-Reum(Seol Hyun) annesinin ölümünün üzerine sırtına çantasını takıp Angok isimli küçük bir kasabaya gelir. Amacı birikiminin el verdiği kadarı ile hiçbir şey yapmadan yaşamaktır. Dizi minimalist yaşamaya karar veren bu 28 yaşındaki kadının hikayesini anlatıyor.

Aynı isimli webtoondan uyarlanan bu mini dizinin karakterleri de oldukça minimalist tasarlanmış. Küçük sahil kasabalarında geçen dizilerin hepsini bir tık anımsatsa da kendine özgü tatlı bir havası vardı. Our Blues kadar başarılı, Hometown Cha Cha Cha kadar keyifli, Once Upon A Small Town kadar düz değildi. Bu sahil kasabası turistlik bir yer olmadığı için kasaba sakinlerinin çoğunluğu kendi içinde yaşıyordu. Ve popülasyonda uzun yıllardır orada yaşayan yaşlılardan oluşuyordu.

İlk bölümü izlerken “ne izliyorum ben” hissiyatını üzerimden atamadım. Mini dizi olmasına rağmen derdini anlatmaya başlaması 3.bölüme kadar sürüncemede kaldı. Hele ilk bölüm dizinin kalanından o kadar bağımsızdı ki… Genelde başına gelenleri başka birine anlatırken öğrendiğimiz başrolümüz, başına gelenleri 1.bölümde izleyiciye anlatıyorlardı sanki. İş yerinde hakkının yenmesi, evde yalnız olması, parasının olmaması, annesi ile olan olayları, abisinin ruhaniyeti… O kadar bunalarak izliyorsunuz, o kadar siniriniz bozuluyor ki, sabır limitiniz düşükse daha ilk bölümden vazgeçmeniz büyük olasılık. İş yerinde yaşadığı zorbalık da cabası. Her yaşadığına boyun eğen, tamam diyen, sesini yükseltmeyi bile düşünmeyen bir karakter düşünün. Düşünememiş olabilirsiniz. Bu durumu çarpa çarpa yansıtmışlar ekrana. Bir de düşene ben vurayım diye senaristler kızcağızın anasını öldürdüler. Yani 3.bölüm bir sahil kasabasına yerleşmesini izlemeye sonunda başladığımızda, “ne gerek vardı” diye düşündüm. Gelseydi kasabaya kalacak yer ararken flashbackler ile kısa kısa özetleseydi niye buralarda olduğunu, ne bizi bunaltsaydı ne mevzuyu uzatsaydı. Şahane olmaz mıydı?

Yeo-Reum’un kasabada tanıştığı her insanı önce inanılmaz itici buluyorsunuz. Konuşamayan bir kütüphaneci An Dae-Beom (Im Si-Wan) ile tanışıyoruz ilk önce. Si-Wan’ı daha önce Run On dizisinde izlemiştim. Aşırı tutuk bir oyuncu olduğunu düşünüyordum. Bu dizide de ilk gördüğümde aynı şekilde düşündüm. Ama ilerleyen bölümlerde sevdiğim oyunculardan biri oldu. Dizide de karakteri açıldıkça keyifle izledim. Aslında oyuncunun 35 yaşında olduğunu öğrendiğimde baya şaşırdım.  Seol Hyun ise gerçekten 28 yaşındaymış. İkili aynı yaşta karakterleri canlandırıyorlardı. Aralarındaki yaş farkı ise tam tersi görünüyordu. Hanım kızımız oğlanın ablası gibiydi.

Abla demişken, kütüphanenin diğer çalışanı Jo Ji-Young(Park Ye-Young)… elle tutulur hiçbir yanı yoktu. Kadın Dae-Beom’un ablası gibi davranıyor ama sonra aşık gibi tribe giriyor, annesi gibi baskıcı yaklaşıp, kız kardeşi gibi nazlanıyordu. Bütün karakterleri sonradan sevdim, bu kızı sevemedim. Evlerden ırak. Onun dışında ev sahibinin oğlu Bae Sung-Min (Kwak Min-Gyu) vardı. Yeo-Reum’un kasabadan gitmesini istediği için sürekli ona zorluk çıkartmaya çalışan bir karakterdi. Başlarda itici bulsanız da onu sevmemeniz çok zor. Yine lise öğrencisi olan Kim Bom (Shin Eun-Soo), son derece sinir bozucu ve ergenliğin bütün sınırlarını zorlayan bir kızdı. Bir süre sonra ise onu da kardeşiniz gibi görmeye başlıyorsunuz.

Oyuncularda tam olarak ön plana çıkan biri yoktu. Si-Wan tek başına parlasa da yeterli değildi. Bence başka oyuncularla çok daha ses getirebilir bir dizi olabilirdi. Yaş ortalamasının yüksek olmasını ayrıca beğendiğimi söylemeliyim. Belki benim yaşımdan kaynaklı olabilir ama dizilerdeki olayların belli bir yaşın altındaki karakterler üzerinde döndüğü hikayelerde çok fazla tutarsızlık olduğunu düşünüyorum.

Toparlayacak olursam, hikayedeki gizem yavaş yavaş çözülüyor izleyiciyi sıkmıyordu. Hayattan küçük bir sıra dışı kesit izliyorsunuz gibi düşünebilirsiniz. İzlememeniz için bir neden olduğunu düşünmüyorum. Ve son olarak liseli çocukların bile öpüştüğü dizide, başrollerin birbirine dokunmaması beni inanılmaz strese soktu. Heh şimdi, tamam bu sefer, hadi ama… şekilde kat sayım artarak izledim. Ve üzgünüm spoiler ama öpüşmediler. Oyuncuların yaş farkının çok olmasından mı neden bilmiyorum, sahne yazmamışlar. Yazık olmuş.

Tale Of The Nine Tailed & Tale Of The Nine Tailed 1938 e A Familiar Stranger

Un po' di questo... e un po' di quello.

Sono troppo pigra per scrivere commenti su queste serie. Ma d'altra parte, mi dispiace non mettere per iscritto manco due righe: d'altronde, sono tre drama che nel bene e nel male, meritano almeno menzione.

Ma appunto perché sono svogliata, andrò a casaccio, trattando solo le cose che mi sono piaciute e cosa invece mi ha lasciata perplessa.

TALE OF THE NINE TAILED & TALE OF THE NINE TAILED 1938

Questi due li metto insieme perché uno seguito dell'altro. Anche se la seconda stagione si può benissimo vedere senza che si sia manco toccata la prima.

Di questa serie ho amato l'ambientazione simil horror, super inquietante. Tanto che certe volte ho dovuto mettere in pausa la serie per riprendere fiato e far passare l'ansia. Entrambe le stagioni portano in campo la mitologia koreana - adoro- nel modo più allarmante possibile. Non solo è stato super interessante scoprire le leggende della Korea ma il taglio inquietante ha reso la visione ancor più elettrizzante. La cosa che mi rende ancor più felice è il fatto di esser arrivata in fondo senza incubi: ho passato la mia prova di coraggio.

Un'altra cosa che mi è piaciuta è stato la caratterizzazione del lead, Lee Yeon. A differenza di altre creature sovrannaturali più conosciute - coff... coff ...Goblin - il protagonista di questa serie è perfettamente ambientato nell'epoca moderna: non solo sa come funzioni la tecnologia ed il mondo attorno a lui, ma usa tutto ciò con molta naturalezza. Cosa che ho adorato. Come mi è piaciuta tantissimo, l'espressione del Nostro ogni qualvolta c'erano casini: quello sguardo scocciatissimo di chi c'ha altro da fare ma gli tocca stare lì a risolvere bordelli. Adorabile. La qualità più interessante di Lee Yeon comunque non sono i super poteri ma la sua intelligenza. Seriamente, questo gumiho mi ha conquistato più per il suo cervello che per l'abilità con la spada.

L'altra cosa che ho amato, sempre su Lee Yeon, è la sua fallacità. Pur essendo un Dio di Montagna, un Gumiho ecc ecc... compie errori di valutazione, fa sbagli che si riflettono tutti nel disastroso rapporto con il suo fratellino, ad esempio.

Il Fratellino, Lee Rang, è la mia stella di questa serie. Stagione uno e due. Non solo perché la recitazione di Kim Bum è stata fantastica...ma anche perché il suo personaggio è un concentrato di contraddizioni e dolore: ama suo fratello ma lo risente per averlo abbandonato. Vorrebbe passare del tempo con lui ma ha sempre il terrore di affezionarsi e poi soffrire nel caso che Yeon lo abbandoni di nuovo. Un adorabile tsundere. E poi è il personaggio con un evoluzione ed una crescita più bella di tutti. In entrambe le stagioni.

Nella seconda stagione ancor più che nella prima, il rapporto dei due fratelli è centrale ed ho amato questa cosa. La prima stagione - senza fare spoiler - mi aveva lasciato l'amaro in bocca per come era finita. Ma la seconda mette a posto quel finale dando finalmente a Lee Rang la chiusura che si merita. Sul finale di tale Of the nine tailed ci sarebbe da scrivere un poema per quanto mi ha fatto incaz...re.

Altra cosa che mi è piaciuta - e qui andiamo nella seconda stagione - è la storia d'amore di Rang e Yeo Hee. Semplice, romantica, senza pretese. Posso alzare un po' gli occhi per la velocità con cui la volpe ha aperto il suo cuore alla sirena...ma va bene. Condensare tutto in 12 episodi porta anche a questo. Nonostante ciò, la loro storia mi è piaciuta molto, trovando nella ragazza la compagna perfetta per Lee Rang.

Infine nota di merito per la collega di lavoro di Lee Yeon: la divinità di montagna Hong Joo. Fantastica. Spettacolare. E non mi riferisco solo alla sua recitazione ma anche il suo personaggio. So Yeon tratteggia una Hong Joo cazzutissima e badass ma allo stesso tempo fragile e desiderosa della sua vecchia vita con i suoi vecchi amici diventati come una famiglia per lei. Vorrebbe che tutto tornasse come quando i tre erano ancora Divinità di montagna e fa di tutto per proteggere le persone a cui vuole bene. Anche cose poco lecite. L'ho amata.

Ed ora la cosa che invece mi ha convinto meno. La storia d'amore tra Lee Yeon e Nam Ji Ah. Chiariamoci, è una bella storia. Super romantica, straziante, fatta bene e ben costruita. E pure a tratti divertente. Il mio problema con lei è stato il fatto che di drama con due persone che si amavano nel passato, poi una è morta e si aspetta la sua reincarnazione per continuare ad amarsi... è roba già vista. Cioè, Destined with you parla più o meno della stessa cosa. Per questo mi sono ritrovata, a malincuore, a skippare alcuni pezzi di romanticismo tra i due, desiderosa solo di andare avanti nella trama principale o vedere cosa stesse combinando Lee Rang. Ho un feticismo per questo uomo

Anche la trama certe volte non è stata poi così chiara. Alcune volte fa diversi pasticci e ti costringe a porti domande che mai e poi mai avranno risposte. Per carità, la storia si segue bene ma consiglio di vedere le due stagioni godendosi la trama senza porsi troppe domande. XD

Detto questo, Tale Of the Nine Tailed 1 e 2 merita sicuramente la visione. Anche perché per come è finita la seconda stagione e la locandina di una terza già apparsa su Mydramalist, ci sono in ballo altre stagioni... e che ti perdi l'opportunità di vederti e far parte di una Saga?!

A Familiar Stranger

Siccome le donne incinte uccise e fatte a pezzi -con testa e feto spariti - in Dark Night non mi avevano ancora convinto del tutto, ho deciso di buttarmi su questo mini drama da 8 episodi che alla fine si è rivelato uno dei migliori mini drama degli ultimi tempi.

Certo, c'è la questione dello scambio di faccia che ancora non mi fa dormire la notte ( l'hanno scuoiata? magia nera? ) ma nel complesso posso pure prendere queste domande e metterle a tacere concentrandomi su altro. In questo caso la trama:

Una povera pittrice viene ricattata dalla figlia del Primo Ministro per sposare il Generale al posto suo cossicchè lei possa continuare a troieggiare in giro con il suo amante, il Principe Ning.

Il ricatto consiste nella vita della sorella della pittrice, sorella sparita anni or sono e che la ragazza potrà rivedere solo se adempierà alle richieste della nobildonna. Anche se questa di nobile ha solo l'atto di nascita.

Per la riuscita del piano, alla pittrice viene data la faccia dell'altra donna appunto - operazione fattasi tramite magia nera credo- ed il sjuo compito è copulare con il Generale e trovare "qualcosa" - ma non si sa cosa - nella residenza del futuro marito.

Quello che però la Nobildonna non sa è che la pittrice ed il Generale si conoscono da tempo: riuscirà la nostra protagonista a fingere di essere la Figlia del Primo Ministro abbastanza a lungo da fregare il Generale o sarà prima quest'ultimo a riconoscerla vedendo oltre la sua nuova faccia?

Inizia così una serie che per le prime 4 puntate mi stava rincoglionendo, dandomi più domande che risposte e facendomi pensare che le cose stessero accadendo a caz...o di cane. Non ne vedevo il nesso...finché da metà serie in poi tutto si mette al suo posto. Le domande trovano risposta, le cose si chiariscono e nel finale c'è un colpone di scena che mi ha fatto sbarellare.

Nota di merito per il personaggio del Principe Ning che, partito come uno di quelli che vorresti solo menare, trova una sua crescita ed evoluzione caratterizzandosi come uno dei personaggi migliori di questo mini drama.

Cosa che invece la serie si poteva per me pure risparmiare è la solita reiterata storia d'amore dei due che si conoscevano e si amavano da prima ancora che inizi la storia. Per quanto mi riguarda continuerò a credere che questo escamotage narrativo non solo non sia romantico ma sia pure sinonimo di pigrizia:

facile fare una storia d'amore quando i due protagonisti si conoscono da anni e sono già mezzi innamorati!

Su i due lead posso poi dire poco. Carini e ben caratterizzati...ma niente di spettacolare. Insomma, nella norma.

Infine, una parola sulla Figlia del Primo Ministro: pazza scocciata! Ho goduto troppo quando tutti i suoi piani le si sono ritorti contro ed ha gradualmente perso ogni cosa. BHUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Chiaramente poi, essendo solo 8 episodi da 20/30 minuti l'uno non c'è tempo e spazio per approfondire le cose ma quel poco che c'è basta e avanza.

Consigliato quindi per le serate quando si cerca qualcosa di veloce ma che non sia stupido.

[Extraordinary You] Eun Dan Oh (Kim Hye Yoon), una chica de preparatoria que es la única hija de una familia rica, tiene una enfermedad cardíaca congénita. Un día, se pregunta por qué su memoria se desvanece continuamente. Finalmente se da cuenta de que es un personaje de dibujos animados y decide encontrar su vida real y su amor. Mientras tanto, un personaje que ni siquiera tiene nombre, el estudiante número 13 de Seuri High School (Ro Woon), vive como un fondo de los otros personajes, pero su vida cambia lentamente después de conocer a Dan Oh. Comienzan su misteriosa aventura para descubrir el secreto del romance en el mundo de los dibujos animados y tratan de recuperar sus vidas independientes.

PERFECCIÓN. TODO. DE VERDAD.

Es perfecto desde la trama, el póster, la escenografía, los personajes, la pareja protagonista, el guión, todo, absolutamente TODO.

(Y honestamente, a mí sí me gustó el final).

Debo decir que no tenia grandes expectativas en esta historia. No tenia ganas de ver un kdrama ambientado en la escuela secunaria; sin embargo, quería ver algo que no me enganchara sobremanera hasta el punto de querer hacer un maratón del kdrama para terminarlo en 3 días. Bueno, si están buscando lo mismo que yo buscaba, Extra-ordinary You no es el kdrama indicado, pues su fascinante historia los dejará con las ganas de mirar el siguiente capítulo, y el siguiente, y el siguiente.

No había visto actuar a ninguno de los actores en algún otro kdrama, pero debo decir que todos hicieron un gran trabajo y son muy talentosos, por lo que definitivamente ya tengo ganas de ver otro de sus proyectos.

Highlights:

La evolución de Baek Kyung.

La hermosa pareja que hacen Eun Dan Oh y Haru.

El trío amoroso entre Yeo Joo Da, Oh Nam Joo y Lee Do Hwa.

El entrañable personaje que es Lee Do Hwa.

El OST (incluyendo el instrumental).

El capítulo final que puede ser un poco ambiguo (o incluso bittersweet) dependiendo de la perspectiva de cada televidente.

PS. Extraordinary You fue el kdrama perfecto para ver después del trauma que dejó Mouse en mí, pues después de Mouse solo buscaba rom-coms para ver.
