You said hit me with your prompts so…
I haven’t seen any fic yet explore Maya contemplating or wanting to carry their second child, now that she’s secure in her motherhood what it means to be a family.
Anon, I have been sitting with this prompt for, frankly, months. Just like… stewing it in my head because it’s so good. So good, in fact that it became part of the Hygge Universe “canon” timeline, where it will live for all eternity.
I had every intention of writing this one for you. I still want to. I still might. Life, however, decided that three of the women closest to me that wanted children would all get pregnant within a few months of each other and well, I’m going to be an aunt for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time this spring.
With so many new lives anticipated this year, there are aspects of this story that I can’t write. Not right now. Maybe not ever. But certainly not until my nieces and/or nephews are safely in my arms. I have every faith that you will understand my reasonings.
I outlined this one, though, like much of the Hygge Universe still to come. And I know that one day soon, these stories will no longer be canon compliant and some or all of us will move onto new tales. It pains me to imagine this little bit never getting the light of day at all.
So, thanks to the urging of a couple of great friends, the answer to this prompt is outlined below the cut. I hope a tiny taste is enough.
prompt #1 | prompt #2 | prompt #3 | prompt #4 | prompt #5 | prompt #6 | prompt #7 | prompt #8 | prompt #9 | prompt #10 | expanded prompts: Hygge on AO3
prompt #11:
(For reference: at this point in season 6, Hygge Universe is still nearly 100% canon compliant.)
It’s 2024. Andrea has just recently turned 1. Maya and Carina have settled into that comfortable space of parenthood where you suddenly look around and go, “Holy shit, we actually know what we’re doing?” It’s a glorious place to find oneself.
That comfort in the routine is what starts the first spark of want in Carina. Or maybe it’s a comment made at Andrea’s first birthday party about what a great big brother he’d be. Either way, the desire begins to fester in her.
She dreams of another baby held in Maya’s arms, someone for Andrea to grow up with, a way for them to nourish the sibling bond that she so cherished with her own brother. Another chance to break the patterns of their own childhoods, knowing that their children will never be placed in competition with each other or separated or made to feel as though they aren’t safe.
It’s an intoxicating image.
Maya, however, isn’t quite as sure about this idea when the topic is broached. Not for the first time, they come to heads about it. Maya is still in therapy, still trying to work through the traumas of her childhood. Motherhood is amazing and wonderful and she’s so grateful for every moment of their family, but her career isn’t yet where she wants it to be. She isn’t where she wants to be. And so, she denies it. Snuffs out the dream, a little.
Tries to convince Carina that they can be happy with exactly what they have.
Carina tries to convince herself, too.
Only, Maya’s career goals begin to flourish shortly after. Something changes that allows her to get back onto the track she’d once been denied. She’s not a captain again – yet – but there’s signs that it’s coming and the future suddenly looks promised, hopeful even, again.
The proverbial cloud lifts and Maya can picture the years ahead. Can imagine their family of three becoming four. It’s like the first time; the flick of a switch and there’s suddenly nothing she wants more than to see Andrea as an older brother, Carina as a mother once more, their family completed.
So, they agree to start trying.
Trying, as a queer couple, means heading to the fertility clinic. Because the first time they did this, it took like 10 attempts of IUI to work and Carina knows that could mean something is wrong. She wants to be sure they’re making the most educated choices (even if she hates the idea of something as beautiful and romantic as creating their child becoming something clinical, ironically).
The doctor wants them to have the best chances. IVF, though expensive, results in a greater likelihood of a successful pregnancy. They could use the same donor sperm as before, have it injected into one of their eggs in the lab, and then implant one or more viable embryos. It’s all very medical and unnerving and not exactly their speed, but Carina agrees that it’s the best course of action.
Maya, however, gets a little stuck on the cost. They’d have spent more than $6000 on sperm to create Andrea. IVF is even more expensive. So, while Carina is toying with the idea of reciprocal IVF using Maya’s eggs or regular IVF with her own eggs, Maya is clipboard spiralling.
She spirals so hard, in fact, that she begins to weigh all of the possible options – including carrying the child herself so they can try IUI again instead. She’s younger and she remembers the heartbreak Carina had felt with each unsuccessful attempt and thinks, maybe, she could protect Carina from all of that if it was her body going through it.
But, she’s back on the career track and getting pregnant could derail that again. Even trying to get pregnant could derail it. She wants their family and she wants Carina to be happy and she wants her job and she can’t seem to make all of these pieces fit together in a way that makes sense. She mulls it over so quietly and so intensely that she makes herself a little crazy.
See, Maya’s in therapy and really, truly doing better, but she’s still kind of a dumb ass when it comes to communication. So, while Carina would notice that something was going on, it wouldn’t be given voice right away and would probably only spill out when Carina’s finally had enough and gone, “Seriously, what the fuck.” (Except she’d say that sentiment way more eloquently.)
Maya will have tried so hard to make herself want to carry their child that she will feel as though she’s failed when she still hasn’t managed to convince herself. That devastation at her own inability is what Carina will find when they finally crack the surface of clipboard Maya.
Ultimately, though, Maya doesn’t care if their children are biologically hers. She doesn’t care if they have any blood relation to herself at all. Because she looks at Andrea and sees only her son. He has the features of the woman she loves, yes, but he’s also just this little human being that they hoped and wished and fought for. (And, realistically, she knows it could be better for both their kids from a medical standpoint if they have more genetics in common.)
Which is what gets Carina responding along the lines of, “You fucking idiot (affectionate).” She tells Maya that it’s okay, even though it was difficult the last time. That she doesn’t need protecting. That, actually, Maya being the one to not get pregnant successfully when they try wouldn’t make it hurt less.
She would also point out that Maya wouldn’t be able to guarantee no miscarriages or negative pregnancy tests just by the sheer will of it being her own body. There’s no control, really, in instances of trying to procreate. No matter the methods involved.
(This is where my own brain gets stuck because Carina wants to carry their children and trying to communicate that desire in a way that is authentic is challenging. And while I am writing this fic universe for representation’s sake and showcasing queer families that are simply soft and lovely and safe… this whole wanting kids thing is not actually on my own radar. Hence some of the stewing that has occurred. I really, really love being an aunt instead.)
Anyways, they proceed with IVF. They utilize the same donor as they did with Andrea – someone who looks a bit like Maya, though I haven’t really said that anywhere in Hygge thus far. They opt to use Carina’s egg again, which means the whole messy process of hormones and egg retrieval and the shit that both sucks and is a privilege all at once.
And the first implantation takes.
They settle into that cozy, quiet reality of discovering something you’ve dreamed of is coming true. Where no one knows but the two of them. They whisper about it between the covers, hands gravitating to Carina’s abdomen though nothing noticeable is there yet. They share giggly kisses. They bask in the wonder of the life ahead.
Until Carina miscarries.
This… this is the part I cannot write, anon. But it needs to be there.
Because this grief? It is quiet and it is loud. It is secret and all-consuming. It is a grief we are expected to tuck away into corners and overcome in silence. But it is a grief that more parents face than we speak about. It is the harshest reality of creating children. And it is the reality most of us will face at some point, whether we are dreaming of children of our own or loving someone who is.
Maya, in the devastation, will attempt to shoulder the loss. Only, she can’t. She can’t take the pain of it away. She can’t fix it and she can’t control it. This, I think, would be the first time in their motherhood that Maya would have to just… completely let go and have faith.
She’s been close once or twice by this point… when she rushed home after a difficult call to hug Carina in the early days of their pregnancy with Andrea. Those first six weeks of his life, when she’d taken the time off work and attempted to be still with them. Even the decision to try for a second child amidst the fear has been another step towards her growth. But this… the aftermath of grief over their loss is a really big turning point. How could it not be?
Maybe that’s what makes the next implantation feel so different. Maybe that’s why they’re tentative and calm when it takes, when the pregnancy test is positive. When the promise of a future starts to appear before them again.
This little embryo becomes Beatrice. They whisper about her beneath the covers, hands gravitating to Carina’s abdomen as she grows within. They share giggly kisses and quiet tears. Bea moves, more than Andrea ever did, and Carina calls her, “your daughter” so many times that Maya can’t imagine her being anything but.
And yeah, she couldn’t make herself want to carry her inside her body physically. But she carries in her heart and in her arms for the rest of her life. Just as she does with their son.
You see, Maya is already a mother – biology be damned.
And all of that is why, on the day of Beatrice’s birth, Maya thanks Carina for doing this again.

for the prompts - 08 You and me, babe, how about it?- Marina (was this prompt inspired by the dire straits song romeo and juliette?👀)
Maya Bishop & Carina DeLuca, Station 19
08: You And Me, Babe, How About It
****************************************************
"Buon Natale," Carina beams happily, raising her glass.
Maya mirrors her gesture as well as her cheeky smile. "Merry Christmas," she toasts from the opposite side of the couch, her feet warm underneath Carina's. "Assuming I guessed that one right."
"You did," Carina chuckles, almost spilling her wine, before shaking her head in amusement. "I can't believe you still haven't mastered Italian, after all those lessons. Can you even form a sentence yet?"
"You know I can," Maya cries out, pulling an indignant face. "I'm singing Bella Ciao all the time, beginning to end!"
Her protest only makes Carina laugh harder. "That's because you learned it by heart - phonetically! Which, I admit, is very impressive. But do you have any idea what it's about?"
Maya shrugs - taking Carina by surprise as she already braced herself for Maya taking the bait. "I don't care what it's about," she simply says, "I just like the bella parts. They always remind me of you."
"Really?" Carina's face lights up, and not just by the dancing flames of the fire place. "That's so sweet. A bit weird, considering the other lines, but sweet." She stretches her arm until her hand finds Maya's resting on the back of the couch. "I actually have one of those, too. My own uhm... Maya song."
"You do?" Maya cocks her head, curious to find out more, then suddenly narrows her eyes. "Oh God, don't tell me it's Relight my Fire? Or Sex on Fire... or Girl on Fire... or..."
Snorting with laughter, Carina squeezes Maya's hand, making her stop listing at least two dozen more fire related songs. "Don't worry, it's nothing like that. It's Romeo and Juliet, actually."
"But that doesn't count," Maya sighs somewhat bummed, "That's just because you know how much I love that song."
Carina shakes her head again. "Uh-uh. It's way more than that."
Frowning even deeper now, Maya pulls her hand back to run her fingers through her hair, focusing hard as she recalls the song and its full lyrics. Carina keeps quiet, giving her a moment to work it out, and tries not to laugh again when she catches Maya mumbling the right line without realizing it.
"You don't remember, don't you?" she smiles, saving Maya from some rising frustration over this unexpected riddle.
"I'm afraid not," Maya admits, "But please tell me you don't think of us as this tragic or doomed..."
"Anything but," Carina winks, reaching out again and bopping her head. She doesn't need to say anything for Maya to understand. Swiftly moving towards her, Maya turns around and nestles herself in Carina's embrace.
"Alright, I tell you," Carina goes on when they are both settled and comfy. "It was the night before Christmas—"
"Carina!"
"Okay, okay, it wasn't," Carina laughs, "It was a few days after we met, the day you came looking for me at the hospital."
Maya shifts a little in her arms, mumbling, "I had to start somewhere."
Smiling at the memory, Carina nuzzles her nose in Maya's hair. "You did good. After all, you came over to ask me out. Which is where the song comes in. You still don't remember?"
"I don't," Maya grumbles, hiding behind her palms. "But something tells me it was really embarrassing." She looks up at Carina, slightly peeking through her fingers. "Be honest, did I say something stupid?"
"No, not stupid," Carina giggles, "More like... effective." She takes another sip of her wine, slow and leisurely, and puts her glass aside, deliberately stretching time a little more. "You told me you were thinking about going for another drink. And then you literally said: You and me, babe, how about it?"
"I did not!" If Maya wouldn't be trapped in Carina's tight hug, she would spring to her feet.
"You did!" Carina laughs, "I swear to God, you did!" She presses a kiss onto Maya's cheekbone, then whispers, "And I couldn’t be more glad. 'Cause look at us now!"
Maya opens her mouth, still not completely convinced, and far from ready to let go, but instead of some counter argument, a high-pitched scream falls of her lips as Carina suddenly moves away from behind her and just as easily manages to end up on top of her - captivating her by putting her hands at both sides of her head and locking their eyes.
"Smooth!" Maya grins, quickly catching her breath.
"You’re not the only one with some moves," Carina winks once more, before dipping her head to connect their lips. Their kiss is slow, full of promise, and when their eyes meet again Maya can tell she's up to something.
"It's the night before Christmas..." Carina hums quietly.
"It actually is," Maya titters in anticipation. "So what are you thinking?"
Carina kisses her again, then playfully wiggles her brows. "I'm thinking you and me, babe... how about it?"

Okay, folks, oh my God. So many feels, so many fucking feels from the last Station 19 episode.
I will again commend both Stefania and Danielle for how brilliantly they are playing the chemistry between Maya and Carina.
Especially the way Maya tries to hold it back in, but one tear escapes, and the way Carina is still afraid to let her in, but cannot see her in pain.
Again, oh my God!

I just saw this and omg I have to laugh. Of course it’s not about Jack, it’s about Carina having to make the tough call after see the person who found Maya. 🤪 Oh look we just happened to let Jack be the HERO to SAVE Maya. And absolutely, this is not about Jack at all but hey we let Jack say the big words of “I can’t lose another person I love” while Carina, the literal WIFE to Maya Bishop who also lost so many of her loved ones, sit in the back and listen. 🤡 Yes, it’s about Carina and her having to make a tough decision, but we don’t even show you a scene where Carina just being alone without JACK contemplating about the decision she had to make. 😊
When and how will the writers of station 19 know that we have nothing against Jack being a character, but everything against him interjecting all the important stories between Maya and Carina. All our disdain and all my disgust are towards the writers keep making a fucking man, who Maya cheated on Carina with, meddling in between them. Like, replace Jack with anyone else in 19, Vic, Andy, Theo, Ben, Travis, or any random person, and we may actually appreciate these scenes more. Do you understand me, the writers of 19?! Can’t you see the difference here?! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Sorry not sorry I’m in my “the writers need to pull their heads out of their asses and make Jack fuck off and leave Marina alone” era. 🙂 kinda been in this era since Jack just went along with the fuck knowing the existence of Carina. (Not saying Maya wasn’t at fault in that matter)

Looking around the downstairs of the firehouse, Y/N has an impressed look on her face as she nods. “Your girlfriend is the captain of this place?” She peeks into the barn where the firetrucks are located, letting out a small ooh sound.
“Yes.” Carina laughs, her brows raised as she stares at her younger sister. “You like it?”
“Yeah, it’s cool.” She shrugs, trying to seem nonchalant, but Carina knows her sister.
Grabbing her arm, Carina starts leading her upstairs. “Let’s go, they’re cooking dinner and we’re joining them.”
Y/N gasps. “Is this one of those situations where your girlfriend tries to make a good impression on me, because you won’t date someone who doesn’t get along with me?” The words come out quickly, at times stumbling over them.
“No.”
“It totally is.”
With a sigh, Carina rolls her eyes. It is that kind of situation. She just doesn’t want to feed Y/N’s ego by letting her know how valuable her opinion is to her. But she knows.
When they walk into the kitchen, Y/N notices Carina’s girlfriend stiffing a pot, having seen a picture of her, but she isn’t the one who takes her attention. A brunette setting the table is. It’s like she can’t take her eyes off of her.
“Carina!” Maya exclaims when she notices them. “You’re here early.” She turns off the stove and walks over to the two, wiping her palms to her pants first.
“Our shift ended early.” Carina kisses her before pulling her near Y/N. “This is Y/N, my sister. This is Maya, my girlfriend.”
“Hi!” Smiling, Y/N shakes Maya’s hand. “Nice to finally meet the famous Captain Maya Bishop. Carina talks about you all the time. Maya is so hot. Maya is so muscular. Look at this picture of h-”
“Y/N!” Carina slaps the back of her head. Giggling, she steps away from Carina’s reach, rubbing the spot she got slapped on. “Behave.”
She rolls her eyes. Maya looks between the two, not sure how she should react to the two sisters. “Uh, it’s great to meet you too.” She points behind her, where the rest of the team is, introducing everyone to Y/N. They all wave and smile, saying their his, but Andy walks up to them.
“Hi!” She shakes Y/N’s hand. “You’re doctor too?” Andy looks at the white doctor’s coat she is wearing.
“Yes, I didn’t want to be the family disappointment by not becoming a doctor.” Carina glares at her, but Y/N ignores her. “I’m in general.”
“Awesome.”
The two stand a little bit too close to each other for someone who just met each other, but the others pay no mind to it. They just finish cooking the food and gather around the table, immeasurable bombarding Y/N with questions.
She answers to them to the best of her ability, though most of her attention is on Andy.
Humming quietly to herself, Y/N looks through the patient files on the tablet. She keeps glancing at her phone, frowning when there’s no new notifications. Her and Andy have been texting nonstop ever since they met, but now, Andy hasn’t answered to her in hours. Usually it doesn’t take her that long even if she’s working.
With a sigh, Y/N pockets her phone and sets the tablet down to a table. She has a surgery in half an hour, but until then there’s really nothing to do.
“Y/N!”
She turns towards the sound, her brows furrowing once she notices Andy walking towards her. “What are you doing here?” She meets her halfway. “Did something happen?”
“There was an accident during a call, but I-“
“Are you okay?” Y/N’s eyes start going up and down Andy’s body, looking for any significant injuries. She has a bandaid near her eye, but nothing else catches her attention.
“I’m okay. I wanted to see y-“
Y/N interrupts her once again, “are you sure? Did you already see someone? I can page someone over.” She takes out her pager, but Andy grabs her hands.
“Y/N, I’m okay. I wanted to see you, because I need to tell you something.” Nodding, Y/N stays quiet, giving her the space to talk. “I have feelings for you,” she starts, her voice quieter now, “and I would really like to take you out on a date.”
A big smile appears on Y/N’s face. “That’d be nice.”
“Okay, great.” Andy nods, smiling too. They look like two lovesick fools in the middle of the hospital hallway. “I’ll pick you up today at eight?” She raises one of her brows. “Wear something casual.”
“Got it.” Grabbing the tablet again, Y/N starts backing up slowly. “I have a surgery to go to, but I’ll see you today.”
Andy waves with a grin before walking away, feeling victorious.
Knocking on the door frame, Y/N walks into the locker room. “Hi, mi cara.” She smiles when Andy turns around.
“Hey,” she walks over to her and grabs her hand, pulling her deeper into the room to kiss her, “I am so happy to see you here.” Andy grins, moving them towards the rest room.
Y/N giggles. “I’m happy to be here,” she kicks the door closed once they’re inside the room, “the others have already gone home?”
“Yeah,” she kisses her, “we have all the time we need.” Pulling away momentarily, Andy pulls the doctor’s coat off of Y/N. “You look incredibly hot in your scrubs.” She eyes her body up and down.
“Even when I’m all hot and sweaty?”
“Even then.”
Rolling her eyes, Y/N pushes Andy to sit down on the bed before getting on top of her, draping her arms over her shoulders. “You look very hot in your work clothes too.” She mumbles, going back to kissing her.
Andy grabs the sides of her waist so she wouldn’t fall. Y/N’s hands are about to go down to the hem of Andy’s shirt, but the sound of the door opening interrupts them.
“Y/N?”
Their heads snap towards the now open door, where Maya and Carina are standing, both shocked to see them together.
“Carina!” Y/N struggles to get up from Andy’s lap. “What- what are you doing here?” Andy stands up as well, her eyes wide. Truth to be told, she’s kind of scared of the Italian, especially now that she walked in on them making out.
“What am I doing here? What are you doing?” Her hands start moving in the air. “Since when have you two been together?”
They glance at each other. “Like, six months.”
“Wh-“ Carina groans, throwing her hands in the air while mumbling in Italian, which makes Y/N scrunch up her face. “Six months and you didn’t think to tell me?”
Y/N shrugs, “sorry, there was never really a right time, so, you know,” she glances at Andy, trying to come up with some kind of explanation, “it just never came up.”
Carina has her arms crossed over her chest and her face is in a deadpan look. Maya has a tightlipped smile on her face, “well, I’m happy for you two.” She turns to look at Carina, her brows raised.
With a sigh, Carina walks over to hug Y/N and Andy. “I’m happy too, but you are supposed to tell me things.” She points at Y/N once she has backed away from them, giving Maya room to hug them both.
“I’m not ten anymore.” Y/N smiles, holding Andy’s hand.
“You’re still younger.”
She sighs, but nods, there’s no use to fighting Carina. “We were about to go out to eat, do you want to join us? Or did we interrupt something?” Maya smirks, looking at the jacket still laying on the ground.
“Maya!” Carina looks at her with wide eyes. “That’s my sister.”
“Oh, shut up, you had a study on orgasms.” Y/N picks up her jacket and puts it on. “We’ll join you, but I think we have to change first.” She looks at Maya and Carina’s nice, fancy clothes before turning to her and Andy’s work clothes that they’re still wearing.
“We’ll wait for you in the car,” Maya states while they step out of the room, “don’t take too long!” The door closes.
Andy turns to Y/N. “That’s one way for them to find out.” Laughing, she grabs Y/N’s hips. “I’m guessing you’re borrowing some of my clothes?” She mumbles and smiles when Y/N nods. “I love to see you in my clothes.”
“Don’t start anything now.” Y/N raises her brows, pulling away from Andy to go to her locker and grab some of her extra clothes from there.
“After dinner?”
“Definitely.” She kisses Andy and winks at her, before going to the bathroom to change her clothes, leaving Andy to the locker room with a grin.

Heart problems
Reader knows that hiding something to her girlfriends it’s not a good idea but chest pain it’s not something that they will just ignore, right?
TW: heart attack
Maya x Carina x reader
Requested: YES
Tumblr media
One, two, three breaths ... the pain doesn't go away. No, this time the terrible chest pain just doesn't seem to be going to stop. An elephant has literally sat on you and you're having a hard time even breathing.
You untangle yourself with difficulty from Carina's grip, slipping out of Maya's too and, trying not to make any noise, you leave your bedroom and lock yourself in the bathroom.
As soon as the door closes, you squeeze your chest with your hand making a face and sitting on the ground, your back against the wall and your eyes closed as you wait for it to finish. It is the third time this week; it does not always happen at night, sometimes you are at university and you try hard to not to show how much it actually hurts you. And of course you hid it from your girls; a doctor and a firefighter captain tend to be a little overprotective in these situations and they are already busy and stressed, you don't need them to worry about you too. You don't want to be a burden to them. Your ex girlfriend would always blame you every time you were sick or something happened and even if those two angels you are with now made you realize that she was the wrong one and not you, you can't help but continue to believe that that which she said, perhaps, after all, had a basis of truth.
When chest pain decreased; you sigh and, as you stand up leaning against the wall to keep your balance, a light knock on the door almost makes you fall to the ground, catching you off guard.
"Bella, is everything okay in there?" It's four in the morning ... "
Carina's sleepy voice calms you before another pang makes you emit a groan that you can't hold back.
"Y / n, I'm entering"
Before you can even try to protest, the Italian has already entered your bathroom. Her sleepy look quickly turns into a worried one when she sees you with your right hand gripping the shirt right over your heart while with your left you lean against the wall to keep from falling. She quickly reaches your side, taking your face in her hands and catching your gaze.
"Bella, y / n what's wrong? Do you have a panic attack? "
You shake your head and give her a small smile. The pain has subsided again, you're okay, you just have to convince her that you are now.
“Car, I'm fine… really. I think I pulled a muscle or something in the gym, don't worry. I had a nightmare and I didn't want to wake you up so I came to the bathroom while I calmed down "
You don't even believe it but, considering the time and the fact that until recently the brunette was sleeping ... maybe your girlfriend will believe it and she'll go back to sleep.
"You know you have to wake us up when you have a nightmare, Bella ..."
Relief floods you when you realize that your girlfriend seems to have believed your lie.
«I know, I'm sorry… I didn't want to disturb you. You both had a long shift and you deserved some rest "
Carina sighs, shaking her head and bringing your foreheads closer to be able to kiss you.
"Let's go back to sleep mm?"
You nod and follow her. Exit the bathroom and hide under the covers. Maya moves a bit, hugging Carina as soon as she feels her close to her. You smile a little and put your arm around her waist, closing your eyes and trying to sleep.
……………………………………………………………………………
You wake up to the scent of pancakes, rubbing your eyes and holding back a yawn as you get up. The pain in your arm makes you make a grimace that you quickly hide as you enter the kitchen, being immediately greeted by the image of your girlfriends kissing.
"Good morning"
You smile before you sit down and put two pancakes on the plate.
Maya turns to you, smiling and moving closer before kissing you.
"Good morning love"
Carina glances at you, observing your interaction. Probably, since Maya didn't tell you anything, the Italian didn't talk to her about what happened last night.
"What time do you have class?" Carina speaks, sipping her precious coffee.
"Um ... in about three hours, you instead-"
A stab in your chest makes you drop your fork into the plate with a piece of pancake still skewered. You automatically squeeze the shirt with your hand as if this small gesture could alleviate, even if only slightly, that tremendous pain you are feeling right now.
"Bella? Hey! "
Carina catches you before you can fall off the chair; her and Maya give each other worried and panicked looks, trying to figure out what's wrong with you.
"Love, y / n what is it?"
The pain is stronger than the previous times, it takes your breath away and makes you squeeze your eyes so hard that you can't even answer; you gasp in search of air, limiting yourself to tighten the shirt even more tightly.
"W-I think i-is the heart"
Each word is like a stab.
Maya and Carina make you lie down quickly on the ground as their medical knowledge takes over. Carina runs to get her gown from your bedroom closet; although she was in gynecology she never wanted to leave the stethoscope and now she is particularly grateful.
Maya holds your hand, quickly dialing the emergency number and talking to what you think is Vic.
A groan of pain tears your lips while a particularly strong pang pierces you.
"Hey, hey, it's okay ... stay with us, stay with us Bells."
Carina almost screams; despite her medical training, she can't help being emotional, not right now. Not with you on the verge of a heart attack.
"Breathe babe, breathe, you have to breathe"
Maya says and if this were not the case, you would laugh in her face. Of course, it is easy to say on the other side.
Carina tears off your shirt before listening to your heartbeat. She moves the cold stethoscope across your chest, first to the left breast and then under the right one.
"Accidenti, cazzo, cazzo ... non va bene, per niente bene, è troppo veloce” (Damn, fuck, fuck ... not good, not good at all, it's too fast)
It is more than easy to understand that Carina's words are nothing more than real curses.
Maya is still on the phone but she doesn't lose sight of you for a second.
The pain suddenly increases, forcing you to close your eyes and to breathe harder and harder as you feel the weakness invade your body. You begin to lose consciousness and when your grip on Maya's hand loosens, the firefighter realizes that the situation is getting worse; faster than she expected.
"Vic, damn it, where is that ambulance? Y / n, hey! No, you gotta stay awake okay? Stay awake. "
The blonde barely refrains from screaming while Carina takes your face in her hands, barely holding back her tears.
«Hey, hey… baby, you have to breathe; you can't leave us okay? Please, hold on, the ambulance is coming-y / n !! "
You stop fighting it, the pain is unmanageable and you just let go. The last thing you hear are the screams of Maya and Carina telling you to stay with them.
Carina freezes when she sees your head go limp against her hands.
"No no no, y / n, wake up, come on, wake up"
The Italian puts two trembling fingers on your neck, praying to hear your heartbeat under your fingertips.
"Fuck, Maya, we have to start CPR"
Carina stretches you completely on the ground, lifting your chin upwards and starting the compressions.
One, two, three, four, five.
Maya stands there, motionless, not even answering Vic who is yelling at her on the phone. Her gaze is fixed on your deathly pale face while the only thing she would like to do is throw up and wake up from this nightmare.
"Maya! Maya I need you, you have to give me a hand! "
Carina screams at her wife before blowing air into your lungs and then repeating the compressions.
Maya seems to wake up from her state of shock the same moment Dean, Travis and Andy enter the apartment door and run with the stretcher towards the three of you.
"How long have she been in fibrillation?"
"For about two minutes, I have already performed two cycles of compressions without any results"
Carina says about her and, as soon as Andy takes her place in carrying out the compressions, she bursts into tears and Maya walks quickly towards her, holding her wife in her arms.
After the fourth round of useless compressions, Dean takes the defibrillator. He waits for it to load before placing the metal plates one on your left breast and the other about ten centimeters under your right armpit.
"Charge at 200. Clear!"
Your body jumps and both Carina and Maya are forced to look away from that terrifying sight.
Everyone's eyes turn to the monitor but the flat line creates even more tension in the room. Travis quickly takes Andy's place, performing two more rounds of compressions before Dean charges the defibrillator again.
"Charge at 300. Clear!"
Your body jolts again. And after a few seconds, the flat line on the monitor disappears.
Carina begins to cry, releasing all the tension she has built up in the last few minutes. Maya, on the other hand, barely holds back her tears, hugging Carina with her arm wrapped around her waist as they watch Travis, Dean and Andy settle on the stretcher and put on you an oxygen mask before leaving the apartment.
Carina and Maya get into the ambulance, they both hold your hand refusing to leave your side even for just a minute.
………..……………………………………..…………………
"Bella, you're awake!"
"Hey babe, you scared us a lot, you know?"
Your girls get even closer to the hospital bed and you give them a smile.
You grab the mask you have on your face with your free hand and, just when you are about to take it off, Maya blocks your wrist and Carina gives you a reproachful look.
"Don't even think about it Bella, you have to keep it on"
"Your heart is recovering and you need to rest y / n, no arguments about it" Maya uses her "captain's voice", as you and Carina call it. And when she uses it, what she says becomes law.
You push your hand away from the mask with a snort. Maya opens her mouth to say something but she is interrupted by the door of the room opening, letting Teddy in.
«Hey y / n, glad you woke . You scared us. How do you feel? "
You shrug your shoulders; your chest hurts and you feel a little weak but you are fine. There is nothing wrong with you.
"I'm fine Teddy, a little tired but I'm fine"
Teddy nods, writing something down on the folder she holds in her hands.
"You have already felt pains in the chest, pains in the arm or jaw in the last few days ... maybe even followed by dizziness, syncope ..."
You nod trying to ignore the shocked looks of your girls, as they were unaware of everything.
Teddy looks up from her folder, looking into your eyes. The heart surgeon sighs, shakes her head and then, after putting the folder under her armpit, she looks at you reproachfully.
"When did you first feel any of these symptoms?"
Damn, you're screwed. If a heart attack doesn't kill you, your girlfriends will do it.
Yours is little more than a whisper but alas, both your girls and Teddy hear it. Loud and clear.
In fact, chaos erupts within seconds.
"How could you underestimate it in this way?" We are talking about your health, y / n! "
Maya shakes her head at you, pissed off.
Carina starts pacing back and forth in the room, occasionally throwing bad looks at you, gesturing and muttering to herself in Italian.
The beep of the monitor increases in speed and both Maya and Carina stop, hushing and immediately coming to your side.
Teddy approaches you quickly, listening to your heartbeat with her stethoscope without losing sight of the monitor.
After a few minutes the blonde walks away, writing down other things on the folder she holds in her hands.
“I have prescribed an EKG that you will take today. Y / n, this is not something you should underestimate and you need to take it very seriously. A heart attack is not a joke and, unfortunately, it could repeat itself so try to rest and not strain yourself. We will keep you under observation for a couple of days and from the results of the exams we will understand what is wrong. Don't worry."
Teddy gives you a reassuring smile that you return. Her search-person suddenly rings and the doctor leaves you alone in the room.
Maya sits on the hospital bed and puts her arm around your shoulders, moving closer to you. She leaves you a kiss on the temple, closing her eyes with a shaky breath.
“It was terrifying; I have seen many terrible things in all these years but nothing has ever scared me like seeing you lying on the ground unable to do anything "
Maya sobs hiding her face in your neck. You look at her in surprise, holding her close to you. The blonde rarely indulged in her emotions, even when it was just the three of you.
Carina joins the embrace, hugging you with all her strength and whispering sweet words to you in Italian.
«Ti amo, ti amiamo… never hide such a thing from us again. Never."
You feel the tears of both wet your hospital gown. You hold them tight to yourself, cursing yourself for scaring them and not controlling yourself before it all escalates.
"Last night ... last night your chest hurt right?"
Carina's voice is little more than a whisper, shaking, scared and worried but you can still hear her and Maya too.
"Wait, what-"
Maya looks at you in confusion, wiping the last remnants of tears from her cheeks and waiting for an explanation.
Carina explains what happened last night and Maya is forced to use all of her self-control to avoid yelling at you about how reckless you were.
«Carina is a doctor, I'm a firefighter… we know what the symptoms are. It was stupid and reckless of you, y / n. "
Maya shakes her head, looking away from you and focusing on the ceiling instead.
“I'm sorry, it was stupid and I don't deny it but I didn't want to stress you further. I… you work so hard, I'm just a student and it didn't feel right to add other concerns to the ones you already have. I do not want to be a burden."
You sigh, wiping those few tears that have fallen, finally free from that thought that has tormented you for too long.
Maya and Carina exchange a look. They both knew you had a few happy days with your ex-girlfriend and that she had made you feel that way, made you feel ‘a burden’ but they didn’t believe you still were thinking about it.
«Bella, hey, you're not a burden to us, aren't you okay? Kylie was wrong and you know, did we work on it mm? "
Carina takes your face in her hands to get all your attention, a smile from her curls her lips and in her eyes you can see all the love she feels for you.
Maya intertwines your hands, giving you a smile.
«Car is right babe, you are not a burden and you never will be. We love you."
You caress her hand and smile at her. The two girls lie down on your sides, Carina on the right and Maya on the left, hugging you.
You still feel a burden to them but, damn, this is the best feeling ever. Squeezed between the two people you love most in this world.

I was making dinner for date night tonight, it wasn’t anything hard to make and to be honest I was the one who wanted to stay in. I stood at the counter cutting up some carrots when I felt a hand on my back, my wifes hand drifted towards the bottom shirt of hers I was wearing before tugging gently to bring my hips away from the counter so she could wrap her arms around my waist.
Her forehead rested on my back and I could practically sense the smile on her face. When we met it was because her sister introduced us, of course she takes full credit for the relationship… she said so in her speech at our wedding.
I put down the knife and turned around in her arms to place a delicate kiss on her forehead, the kind where my lips linger before she looked up at me. She is just slightly a few inches shorter than me, I only brag about it once in a while.
Her lips pouted just slightly and I knew she wanted me to give her a kiss, bumping my nose with hers. I planted my lips against hers in a soft kiss. I felt her smile which in turn made me do the same. We only parted when I smelt the chicken I had put in the oven start to burn. In the end we ended up ordering pizza and i cuddles from my best girl.
