Imho a good adaptation isnt a perfect replica of the original. A good adaptation uses the new medium to explore the work. The secret is that whenever a character encounters a situation different from the original, they should still make the same choice the original character would have made. That’s the secret sauce yall.
An adaptation that copies the original beat for beat, line for line is lazy. One that forces the characters into choices they would never make is disrespectful. And some adaptations find that magic line in the middle.

Me, aged 12: Wow, surely this description of dyslexia in my favourite book series is an exaggeration. Words doing cartwheels is totally normal.
Me, aged 25: ...oh

people need to understand that children's books and children's visual media like tv/movies are two completely different forms of media that have to address things differently. there's a reason that developmentally appropriate books for older kids/tweens often approach delicate subjects before visual media. novels are really good for that. you can introduce subjects like death or abuse or sex in novels without having to show visual depictions of them! it's a really great system. and it doesn't make sense to complain about tv adaptations of kids/tweens books not including exactly the same gory/gritty details that the books did.

i really think some of y’all need to use the phrase “it’s not that serious” as some kind of morning affirmation i stg searching for reasons that any and every piece of art and media is problematic is not healthy nor is it a demonstration of good critical thinking and analysis

Rude that all the cool interesting shows these days only get 8 episodes a season and yet shows like fuckin Grey’s Anatomy or whatever get 25 episodes a season just to repeat another shooting/bomb/plane crash/etc and stretch their fragile plotlines as long as humanly possible

i think people wonder why they seem to be so heavy on foreshadowing in season one (percy literally pulling annabeth up from the cliff, etc etc) and i think there’s actually a very solid, kind of sad answer:
i think every single season of every new show is made with the crippling fear of cancellation. it’s just the way it is now. incredible seasons of television, thousands of hours of work, written off with one news article. doesn’t matter how much hype, fandom, critical acclaim—they just vanish.
because of this, the show’s team wants to give us everything they possibly can—just in case. let us show you a glimpse of percabeth’s dynamic in the future, just in case we can’t.
but the thing is, i don’t think they have to be worried.

'let them say fuck' this 'let them swear' that
let them cry
let them sob in the shower
let them soak their friend's sleeve with tears
let them wake up with red eyes
let them laugh cry with their friends over a forgotten inside joke
let them cry while kissing their partner, finally finished with whatever hell they were going through

Yk people always say “I was born in the wrong generation etc etc.”
But what about those of us who were born in the wrong universe. Now I’m not talking like “oh I hate this world boo hoo…” I’m talking dragons.
I was meant for a world with magic and gods and fairies and nymphs and mermaids and dragons WHERE THE HELL ARE MY DRAGONS!?!?!?

Leo: Annabeth, you can’t do this to me, I’m your hottest friend-
Leo: Wait, no that’s Jason.
Leo: I’m your nicest friend-
Leo: No, that’s Grover.
Leo: I’m your friend!

just saw someone say Rick Riordan making a TV show is just as bad as anything JKR has done. BFFR you're comparing Rick Riordan trying to make his world more inclusive, changing some parts because of money/time constraints, or just making changes cus he thinks they're needed, to JKR being a terrible person!
