Mamas Palms. On-Brand.
Tagline:
Find your feet in the water.
Intro:
Okay, folks.
Thank you for joining us @ Zen 🧘🏽‍♀️ Spa by the Hypa-Mamas Palms on our daily Blog:
“ Flop. Float. Fly ”
When we think of spas, we think of the water. In actual fact, “spa” means treatments with water. Mamas Palms fell into spa & wellness, and found her and feet in the the water purely by chance. Born of a typical migrant thai-asian migrant family, she dreaded owning a thai restaurant or a massage shop. After all it was typical of many migrant families.
Born of a father who was a bodyguard to a crown at royal 👸🏽 duntroon military college post in the ACT and a mother who was a teacher then later, a visa clarke at the local embassy. Mamas Palms was not interested in public service, Foreign affairs or The military. In fact, little did she know; Mamas Palms was a touch Asperger’s and a lot hyperactive. So obviously she was meant for “ShowBusiness.”
Despite her family Business opportunities she was reluctant to join the public service and advocated to work in media and entertainment. Her dream goal was to “play one of those dancing mushrooms on those Disneyland parades.” She told this to her therapist - and she was told that she had - a tad of Asperger’s with a lot of ADHD.
After graduating in communications media majoring in theatre productions at the Australian National University / and the local university of Canberra (cross institutional), Mamas Palms went on to complete training at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts 🎭 aka. NIDA (a part of University of New South Wales in Kensington) There, she studied TV presenting / voiceovers and some vocals at the Sydney Conservatory of music.
Though through a twist of faith, and after multiple unsuccessful freelance careers in Sydney/London/Montreal (where she developed a love for languages) in the media industry. Mamas palms returned home to become a single mum, running a small wellness studio at her formal University the Australian National University. But after going bankrupt and out of business due to Covid and becoming a pregnant 🤰🏻 single mum; Mamas Palms was encouraged by chance from other Therapist to join them in a local beauty course, initially to assist them as a translator in their school work, but later developed an deeper love for the spa & wellness industry.
In 2019, Mamas Palms completed her Aerial Yoga Therapeutics training and became a certified “Anti-Gravity” instructor or what Thailand calls “Fly-Yoga”. She completed her studies with “Creative Body Flows,” based in Brisbane but also provided training out of Sydney. Her other training is as a lifestyle and leisure coordinating at TAFE NSW.
Mamas Palms found her love in the spa Business, because it helped her find her feet. She began blogging about her life and experiences in a memoir series called “Flop-Float-Fly” in 2018.
Mamas Palms opened up her own brand in 2019, after being dumped by an ex-from London in 2018. She was later left pregnant with a South African daughter by a scholarship student at the ANU - and went into the spa Business full-time after graduating in 2017 at the Royal Palace school of Massage Therapy at Wat Pho in Bangkok. As such, the spa industry had helped her find her feet and financially support her daughter as a single mother. As the work was demanding creative and extremely consistent.
Later, with the help of her brother that gave her the slogan “Mama’s Palms Wellness Studio”, and cousin (who was a sisterly mentor) an ex-flight attendant; who worked at Landmark. As well as, with the help from a business coach from her leadership program. She was convinced to go into the Business of mindful-lifestyle and the selling of “Zen”.
As Thailand is also well known as the top 10 in wellness-tourism and the spa industry. Mama Palms late Father, “Tony” had always told her to focus on bringing “the best of Thailand to the world and bringing the world to Thailand.” 🇹🇭 Her father travelled extensively as a Royal bodyguard for the National crown, therefore Mamas Palms was raised as a child predominantly by her mother, brother and aunt, during which her father would travel for almost 8 months of every year. However, this upbringing became a part of discovering her own branding.
Mamas Palms makes light hearted microblogs on the art of wellness & mindful-living on a series called “ Flop. Float. Fly. ”. Adding a sparkle of fun into mindful 🧘🏽‍♀️ living.
Through a time of growth, she discovered through being a mother, the Love of zen-spa, wellness and embracing how to be neuro divergent - and loving it.
Mamas Palms, produces lighthearted social media content on Tumblr, Instagram, TikTok, SoundCloud and YouTube. She considers her programs to be “accessible”and inclusive as a form of “edu-tainment” and should not be a substitute for seeing a medical or other healing health professionals.
She is currently completing her local qualification as a lifestyle coordinator / consultant and her diploma in spa wellness and Beauty, with the love of her dog who is eight and her three-year-old daughter by her side.
The alias name “Paeri” shorten from “Ploy/Tarn > Mamas Palms” comes from her traditional Thai nickname which means “sugar toddy palm” a locally common - yet tropical traditional name chosen by her mother. Which is also her alias - or “pen name” on blogs / & has become her industry in house-name.
In actual fact, Mamas Palms means the “palm” that “belongs” to her mother.
Thanks 🙏 for following us!

Skippy: "supposedly" Me-gain's been seen out going to yoga classes? (Of course no photographic proof.) But I thought it was said that she was having a yoga room built at Frogmore Cottage as part of the multi-million pound renovations--which we were told were finished and that's why she "moved" out of Kensington. So many porky pies told that Me-gain's paid PR can't even keep up with what's been said.
She doesn't live at FC....anything comes out about her...is lies and delsuions😁❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mr. and Mrs. Sussex Challenge!
See this post (x) by @harryandmeghansussex
• Who said ‘I love you’ first? Harry | Meghan
Harry probably blurted it out the second she stepped off the plane in Botswana, honestly.  We all know he has no chill when it comes to his girl.
• Who’s the better kisser? Harry | Meghan
The ONLY reason I am saying this is because I’ve spent the better part of the past 7 years daydreaming about making out with Harry and I’ve convinced myself that he’s the best kisser on the planet.  Meg is right up there with him though.
• Who is funniest? Harry | Meghan
Reason #278192 why Meg fell in love with Harry - he’s hysterical.  Corny, cheesy at times, but he makes himself laugh which makes Meg laugh.
• Who is more romantic? Harry | Meghan
This one was hard but I’m going with Meghan.  Instead of letting Harry do all of the *traditionally* romantic things, she does them first.  She buys him flowers.  She leaves him little love notes in beautiful handwriting for him to find in his office.  She’ll plan a wonderful night out and just tell him to show up.  She’s a mush and he loves it.
• Who is messiest? Harry | Meghan
I don’t think either of them are messy, but Meg has a lot more stuff, which means a lot more clutter.  Harry’s bathroom vanity had soap, a toothbrush, and some aftershave on it before Meg came along.  Now there’s 42 bottles of lotion, 17 different skincare products, makeup, haircare products, plus another toothbrush... not messy, but a lot of clutter.
• Who is most competitive? Harry | Meghan
From all the years of being around William, Catherine, and his cousins, of course.
• Who is most likely to deal with a spider? Harry | Meghan
Harry does. not. like. spiders.  Plus he’s had staff his entire life to keep his place spotless and free of bugs.  Meg doesn’t like them either, but she has lived on her own and hasn’t had anyone else to kill the spider in a while.  So Meg kills the spiders.
• Who is the most confident? Harry | Meghan
Meg just exudes a confidence about her, while Harry looks constantly in awe.  Harry is scared of public speaking and Meghan does it with grace.
• Who is the best cook? Harry | Meghan
Harry’s been having other people cook for him since the day he was born.  Homegirl makes A+ pasta, roasted vegetables, pancakes, homemade protein bars, smoothies, and she makes a killer dessert.  I know it.  Plus she’ll definitely venture out and try new things.
• Who is the better driver? Harry | Meghan
Harry can drive on the left side of the road and the right side of the road, so.
• Who is best with children? Harry | Meghan
Children love Harry - they always have - and therefore Harry loves children.  Harry is at Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace 3x a week to hang out with the Cambridge kiddos while William is at work and Catherine is taking care of things around the house.  Meg is good too but Harry will actively choose kids over adults at least half the time, when given the opportunity.
• Who smells the best? Harry | Meghan
Meg has lotions, scented body soaps, a million types of perfumes, scented hand sanitizer all over their little cottage.  Guaranteed.  Harry has an amazing cologne and aftershave but it’s been the same for 15 years.
• Who is most stubborn? Harry | Meghan
You know it, I know it, Meghan knows it, Harry knows it, everyone knows it.  Harry is a Windsor by blood.  He is a stubborn, stubborn man.
• Who has the biggest sweet tooth? Harry | Meghan
Meg gets strawberries for a light dessert while Harry goes ham on a piece of cheesecake, because he’s a prince dammit and he does what he wants.
• Who has the better taste in music? Harry | Meghan
Just a guess!  She has a killer vibe so it wouldn’t surprise me if her music taste was the same.
• Who wins the most arguments? Harry | Meghan
Harry can’t stand it when his girl is upset so he concedes 75% of the time and that’s a damn fact.
• Who has the worst habits? Harry | Meghan
Harry bites his nails because he’s a nervous lamb all the time.  He constantly leaves his shoes in places other than the closet.  And he’s really bad at remembering to turn the lights off when he leaves a room.
• Who has the better memory? Harry | Meghan
If you don’t think that Harry remembers to send Doria flowers on her birthday and the exact song that was playing during their first kiss and the exact motto of Meghan’s sorority in college, just because Meghan told him once, then idk what to tell you.  Homeboy loves his girl and remembers everything she says, because it’s important to her.
• Who is grumpiest in the mornings? Harry | Meghan
Sleepy, scruffy, cranky, pre-coffee Harry is the cutest thing in the world.  Harry cannot deal with the dogs or his messages or the garden or anything until he’s had his coffee.  Meanwhile, Meg is already on her third yoga stretch of the day, green tea in hand, has already walked the dogs twice... it’s Harry, y’all.  Trust me.
• Who realised the other was “the one” first? Harry | Meghan
He said during the engagement photocall that he knew the first time he met her - how much faster could it have been, really?

mcconnell family history — headcanons
Edith and Joseph Cadwell parented four beautiful daughters, all close in age. Louisa, born in 1978, Muriel, born in 1986, Marianne, born in 1981, and Elaine, born in 1975. These daughters were raised to become trophy brides, because that was the best way for them to be supported for the rest of their lives. Joseph and Edith took great care in helping their daughters along, raising them with kindness as well as discipline and creating the perfect women. They all grew up absolutely beautiful, and married young. Louisa met and married a twenty six year old named Matthew Davenport at twenty two. Muriel married Richard Kensington, twenty seven, at twenty. Marianne married Isaac McConnell, thirty, at nineteen. Elaine married twenty nine year old Henry Price at twenty three. Edith and Joseph were incredibly proud of their daughters, and continue to be. All of the men these women married were older and rich, and that was the plan from the start. Mr. and Mrs. Cadwell wanted men who would support their little girls, and they found just that. Five years ago, Muriel’s husband, Richard, died in a boating accident. The funeral was painful and heartbreaking, and Muriel was crushed. They’d only been married two years, and had yet to have children. The rest of the daughters didn’t follow in Muriel’s footsteps. Elaine is currently pregnant with a baby boy, yet to be named. Louisa gave birth to Jackson in 2002, and Ellen in 2005. Marianne had Nadia and Jason, twins, at age twenty, in January of 2001. Muriel has yet to remarry, though she’s been dating an older man named Theodore DuPont, and she brings him to family gatherings and such. Louisa and Matthew live in New York state with their children. Elaine and Henry live in Connecticut. Muriel resides in Colorado, but flies in for holidays with Theodore. The sisters are polite and polished, as well as extremely wealthy as of now. They are gossipy and tend to pester and nag things that they view as imperfect. You can expect millions of questions and backhanded compliments from the Cadwell sisters, but it was the way they were raised.
Ruth Bishop and Chandler McConnell raised four children, though if you asked, they’d tell you three. Rosaline was born in 1972, Rowan in 1961, Isaac in 1970, and Helen in 1966. Mr. and Mrs. McConnell had severely different beliefs on how to raise children, and they divorced shortly after Rosaline was born. Ruth was bold spirited and would gladly fight someone if need be. She was strong and independent, and wanted her children to be the same. Ruth Bishop died in 1989 of breast cancer, much to the dismay of all of her children. They all had completely adored her, but Chandler McConnell took this as an opportunity. He retaught his children, getting rid of the free-spirited careless streaks they’d received from their mother. Rowan and Isaac went to business school and grew wealthy. Rowan married a younger woman named Penelope, and had a daughter, Bethany, with her in 2004. Isaac McConnell married Marianne Cadwell, and twins Jason and Nadia were born in 2001. Helen married at twenty five, to a man named Scott Bellamy, and had three children. Elizabeth was born in 1993, Mary in 2003, and Preston in 2006. Rosaline didn’t follow her siblings. She kept the boldness of her mother, and she was kind and gentle, just as she’d been raised. Rosaline married a woman named Alison Lockwood in 1997, and was disowned the same year for her ‘deviant behavior’ and ‘hellish lifestyle choices.’ Chandler would not have a lesbian daughter, for that was entirely trashing the McConnell name. Chandler McConnell is, and always has been, a very right wing, racist, homophobic, sexist, unkind man, and every McConnell has grown used to that and accepted it as fact. Helen is still in touch with Rosaline, but Rowan and Isaac are not, and neither are their children. Jason and Nadia have only met Rosaline once, at Helen’s baby shower, but they love her. She’s intelligent and kind, and admired by those who don’t hate her. Rowan and Penelope live in New Jersey, Helen and Scott in Rhode Island, and Rosaline and Alison in Manhattan.
Jason Isaac and Nadia Elise McConnell were raised in utter chaos. Their parents, Isaac and Marianne, being verbally abusive, and occasionally physical. The twins absolutely adore each other, but they fear their family. Going home for school breaks causes genuine stress between the siblings. The four live in a pristine, large home with a pool, hot tub, and a maid, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The house is beautiful, and so is the family’s exterior, but the surface can only say so much. Marianne mocks Nadia’s weight and appearance, always telling her that slimming down is in her best interest. Isaac forces Jason into sports and business, and yells at or hits either child if their grades slip or if they do something that reflects poorly on the family. The parents and extended family are unkind, prestigious people. Mr. McConnell has been sleeping with his secretary, a young Angelina Evans, for years. Marianne is well aware of this fact, but pretends to be oblivious, as do the twins. Mrs. McConnell doesn’t want her marriage to unravel, although it was never a very good one. The house’s maid is a warm, kind woman from Tennessee, Betty Brown. She cooks and cleans and does the laundry, while Marianne has book club and yoga, and Isaac works. She was Nadia and Jason’s nanny when they were young, and continued her maid duties afterwards. Jason struggles with his sexuality and life goals because of family, as does Nadia with her weight and appearance. They both constantly feel like they’re disappointing someone. The twins were raised Catholic, and have been in private school their whole lives. Catholic elementary and middle, and Saint Cecelia’s boarding school in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania for high school. The way they’ve been taught religion is strict and unforgiving, though, of course, that is not how every Catholic is. The siblings fear much and struggle with things internally because of this. Jason is capable of hiding his emotions, and Nadia is not, but it’s there for both of them.
On holidays, everyone flies or drives to Isaac and Marianne’s home. Big meals are cooked by the maid and several of her friends or by a caterer, depending on the holiday. Holidays are full of personal questions and unkind compliments and remarks, as well as downright mean relatives. Jason is mocked for his lack of a girlfriend, though they don’t pick on him for much else. Nadia is teased for her weight, her grades, her being single. The aunts, having married young, don’t help her in the slightest. Holidays are polite banter amongst adults, unkind remarks about the children and about Rosaline as well as the gay neighbors, as well as food and the occasional night where adults stay late drinking in the hot tub and tell Nadia and Jason to go to bed and the other children to wait inside. Jason and Nadia get along with their cousins alright, though they’re not close, but all of the cousins dislike Preston, except his siblings. He’s a spoiled, fat little kid, and he’s already disrespectful. His sisters, Mary and Elizabeth, are kind and well-mannered, and they’re less rude than much of the family. Bethany is younger, but she’s not hated. She’s somewhat of a goody-two-shoes and will snitch on anyone who says anything, but she means well, and no one blames her for it. Jackson and Ellen are uptight and always overdressed. Ellen is sweet and lovely, and Jackson is geeky and mean, but they’re both tolerable.
The family, in a nutshell, is an absolute mess, and Jason and Nadia wish to be nowhere near it, but it’s what they’re used to. Everyone is used to it, and that’s okay, for now. Jason knows he’d be disowned if he came out, so he plans to get through college first. Nadia barely deals with all the crude comments, but she tries her best. Everyone tries, no matter how hard they have it, and both twins hide their worries and insecurities. Nadia, behind rudeness, and Jason, behind striving for perfection.

lists, layers, layovers: what to pack and how to pack it
There’s a scene in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery where Austin and his colleague/eventual love interest Vanessa Kensington, are newly arrived in Las Vegas, hot on the trail of Doctor Evil’s number two, Number Two. Posing as a married couple, they check into their suite and begin to unpack. Vanessa opens her suitcase to reveal a tidy assortment of clothes, accessories, and spy gadgetry packed neatly and divided into plastic bags.
Yes, the kind of bags you fill with cookies or vegetable scraps before tossing into the freezer for that vegetable stock you may or may not actually make.
This was in stark contrast to my own method, which was to pack clothes -- some of which might have been clean -- into a decrepit suitcase WITHOUT WHEELS -- and cross myself before hauling ass to the airport.
Tumblr media
Yes, Miss Kensington, I am disappointed in past me, too.
But I never forgot about Vanessa and her freezer bags. It was so in character for the organized, utterly prepared Miss Kensington. And also because it’s such a great idea. Everything is easy to see and find, and can be left in their bags until they are needed. You can press the air out of bags to compress the contents, and thus you can fit more stuff into your bag.
It took me a while to adopt this method, because I am a messy beast and a procrastinator. And there was something sort of glamorously messy in running off to the airport, as though I were always on the road, and on the run.
Tumblr media
This was a terrible method. I’d leave behind items I wanted to bring, and what stuff I did bring would look terrible, be inappropriate for the occasion, or be not as clean as I’d thought. But what choice did I have?
I guess I could have shopped at my destination but if you’re not wearing straight sizes it might still be a crapshoot depending on where you go. Even if you did find a place that could sell you clothes that fit and, even better, you liked and could afford, that’s still time you’ll have to spend buying clothes when you could be, I don’t know, drinking vinho verde at a bar located on top of a multi-story parking garage in Lisbon.
A few times I tried rolling my clothes, which is supposed to make them less wrinkly and afford you more room in your bag. That only works for skinny people, I am convinced. A pair of XXS yoga pants will roll into something not much bigger than a falafel wrap. My XXL cargo pants from Old Navy will not get any smaller than, say, a steak burrito. And shoving underpants into a pair of Toms doesn’t say packing technique or hack so much as utter desperation when your knickers are typically bigger than a tortilla.
Freezer bags, that’s my number one piece of advice. Treat yourself to the kind that zip, as they are just a few cents more than the kind that don’t. Fold or even roll your clothes up. Insert into bag, compress to get the air out, then zip shut. They’re also handy for packing liquids -- dressing, foundation makeup, and lube which, should they spill, should be pretty well contained.
Make a list of what you intend to bring, and cross each thing off as you pack it away. The internet abounds with packing list generators. I don’t have a specific recommendation, but the ones that ask you where you go and when you are going tend to be decent because they can give you the weather forecast and perhaps even recommend places to eat lunch.
We can have a long discussion about carry-on luggage and maybe one day we will, but for now let me say: whatever you pack make sure it fits in the overhead bin. If it doesn’t, check it like a good girl and vow to do better next time.
But if you’re like me and do only carry-on luggage, do not pack any more than you yourself can carry. If you have mobility or health issues that prevent you from doing so, remember to thank whoever ends up managing your bags for you, at your direction. I’m trying to find a way to express this without sounding like an ableist shithead so weigh in if you had advice on that point.
I think when it comes to figuring out what to wear, I say this: wear whatever you want.* Layers are key, that’s what everybody says, but those layers need to breathe no matter where you are.And check the weather before you go. I didn’t before a nine day trip to England when it always seemed to be on the verge of raining without actually providing the relief of precipitation so I felt like the entirey city of London was sweating upon me, all while wearing jeans with long sleeved cotton t-shirts, and I was miserable. But worse than that I was too stubborn to just go to the Evans in Oxford Street or the Selfridges, also in Oxford Street, and buy myself something.
*The one thing I will do, in following the advice of travel professionals and those travel bloggers who post shit like text posts that say “Not All Who Wander Are Lost” without any kind of irony, is keep my travel wardrobe in the same color family. Pick three colors, neutral or not, and just go for it. When I went to Lisbon in 2016, this is what I packed: https://www.instagram.com/p/BDfeHemRuUk/.
I once spent nine days in Ireland with no trousers/pants except these fancy hiking pants I got at Columbia. I hiked exactly twice during that trip, and the rest of the time I walked around Dublin and Galway and Dingle and Killarney looking, and sounding, like a sentient windsock. I got stuck on the hiking part instead of focusing on the fact that I’d spend most of my time walking around cities, drinking and eating and occasionally sitting before eating and drinking again. I could have used a pair of jeans, a warm sweater, and ankle boots. I solved part of my problem by buying myself a beautiful Irish wool cardigan at the Aran Sweater Market in Killarney. I love that thing.
Last spring I went to England for nine days (what is it with me and nine day trips to the UK?) and did more hiking but instead of bringing proper hiking boots I brought LL Bean boots. They were okay for tromping in mud. Not so much for going up steep hills as I am passed by surly French teenagers wearing Adidas.
I think the moral of the story here is I should give up on hiking as an activity. That, and I need to be more honest with myself about what I can and am willing to do when I got on vacation.
But for, say, three days in New York over Easter weekend? This was my last trip, and I packed:
light coat or jacket
scarf to layer with coat -- make it big enough to use as a blanket on the plane, or shawl for modesty
handbag or purse -- crossbody or GTFO
special outfit or dress -- I went to Le Bernardin with my brother for lunch on my birthday, and I wore this Target x Victoria Beckham collared shift. There were rabbits embroidered on the collar tabs. It was the best.
two shirts -- both were long-sleeved
black Old Navy pixie pants -- no pockets but comfortable, and more elegant than jeans
sneakers -- Converse seems to be the default for everybody ever, and I am not special so of course I have owned many pairs though I am down to one pair at the present -- mine are Comme des Garcons because while I am not special I am for sure quite extra
flip-flops for wearing around your hotel room/AirBNB/friend’s guestroom
black leather ankle boots -- sturdy sole, a heel if you care for one
underthings (bra, underpants, garters, slips, socks, hosiery)
jewelry -- just a few things that you might be able to wear at once or put away in an Altoids tin. I wear a watch, stud earrings, sometimes a silver button or a brass heart from In God We Trust that says “bitch please”.
makeup/toiletries
My next trip is London (yes again shut up I love it) and Venice (baby’s first trip to Italy) in September. I have no idea what I’m going to wear. Maybe a trench coat, Hunter boots, and not much else.
The whole reason I wrote this was because @rosamundt asked me on twitter to write her a post about what to pack for some trips she had coming up. I probably should have done this before today, as she has already embarked on trip number one. Trip number two is still forthcoming, a short trip to a large city for a family celebration. My packing list above should suffice, though she may be able to get away with not packing a jacket. And instead of the black leather ankle boots maybe some sandals with a stiff sole. I know she loves those Saltwater sandals but I don’t think I’d want to wear them on the subway. Just as long as it’s not Yoga Slings -- I think those are kind of gross.

yesterday my dad came to visit me. he came over with a bag full of beer and we talked and i showed him all my new work. my brother joined us and we went to this sweet, quaint italian restaurant in a bright yellow stucco house and it made me feel like i was back in europe. we ordered bottles of wine to the table, shared desserts and laughed and talked about everyone and our lives. it’s was such a beautiful fucking experience, my relationship with my father was always been rocky at best. being able to mend that wound and create new memories as a young adult, i’m so thankful for that. to see my dad proud of his kids was such a joy. when i got home i couldn’t stop smiling. later that night i went to a rave in kensington and met so many nice people and danced until 3 am, walked home and drank wine and tripped until i went to bed. i probably only slept for 4 hours but i felt so rested and refreshed. i didn’t lay in bed all day, i went outside, took advantage of the day, painted all afternoon and i’m going to keep painting and go for a walk to the lake at sunset.
something clicked in me last night. i’m realizing how fucking beautiful my life is. despite it all, all the bullshit. i have an amazing, eccentric, weird little family. i go to the best art school in the province. i get to share wonderful, otherworldly experiences with people. i’m going to do my yoga instructors course and tattoo apprenticeship and graduate with a BFA and spend my whole life doing the things that i love. i can see the path ahead of me. it’s clear and it’s bright and it’s so welcoming. i’m just so excited for the rest of my life.

The Best Diet And Fitness Tips Kate Middleton Swears By
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Karwai TangGetty Images
Kate Middleton has been living in the public eye for more than a decade and the whole time she’s just been so…consistent. Her hair always looks amazing, her style is on point, and, of course, she looks super fit. While Kate doesn’t talk a lot about what she does in the food and exercise department, several insiders have shared that she works hard to be healthy. Here are the Duchess of Cambridge’s top health tips, so you can steal them for yourself.
Advertisement – Continue Reading Below
1
Try to cook regularly.
Kate makes most of the meals for Prince William and the kids herself, British chef Carolyn Robb, who worked at Kensington Palace for more than two decades, told Racked. “Kate does quite a lot of the cooking,” she said.
2
Go for a smoothie first thing.
For breakfast, Kate likes to make a smoothie with spirulina, kale, matcha, spinach, romaine, cilantro and blueberries, according to the Daily Mail.
3
Have healthy competition.
According to the Daily Mail, Kate is competitive with her sister, Pippa. “Kate is an exercise junkie. Pippa and Kate take their toned physiques extremely seriously,” a source told the newspaper.
4
Get into planking.
Kate is big into doing planks. “It tightens her muscles,” a source told the Daily Mail.
5
Mix up your planks.
Kate actually does three different planks, a source told the Daily Mail. “There are three elements, the basic plank, the side plank and the prone sky dive.”
6
Push yourself.
Kate doesn’t just do a few planks and call it a day—she goes hard. A source told the Daily Mail that she can hold a plank “for 45 seconds or longer” and she repeats them “at least ten times each.”
7
Give CrossFit a try.
Kate is apparently big into CrossFit, per the Daily Mail, which focuses on a combination of resistance training, weights, running, and squats.
8
Set aside some solid time for exercise.
Kate works out every morning for an hour, the Daily Mail says.
9
Use your body weight.
Kate has all kinds of equipment available to her, but she’s big into bodyweight exercises, the Daily Mail says.
10
Work out like a kid.
Kate is known to do skipping as part of her workout, according to the Daily Mail.
11
Try out rowing.
Kate likes to put in some time on the indoor rowing machine during her regular workouts, according to the Daily Mail.
12
Do intervals.
Interval training is a great way to work different muscle groups in one workout, and Kate is all in with it. The Daily Mail says she does “intense” interval training.
13
Mix up your diet when you’re pregnant.
Kate struggled with extreme morning sickness during all of her pregnancies, and she ate a plant-based diet of avocados, berries, and oatmeal to help with nausea, Cooking Light reports.
14
Use an exercise ball.
Kate whips out a Swiss gym ball to work her abs, the Daily Mail says. “George is highly amused whenever he sees [his mother on it],” a source told the newspaper.
15
Go for fresh fish.
Kate likes to regularly have ceviche, a blend of raw fish marinated in fresh citrus and spices, the Daily Mail says.

17
Don’t forget to warm up.
Kate makes sure to do cardio warm-ups before she dives into her workout, a source told the Daily Mail.
18

Kate doesn’t just do basic lunges: She adds diagonal and reverse lunges to her workout mix, the Daily Mail says.
20
Don’t skip the crunches.
Kate doesn’t have a flat stomach by accident: She likes to do stomach crunches, per the Daily Mail.
21

While Kate does plenty of cardio to work her legs, the Daily Mail says she also does squats and calf raises to strengthen her lower body.
22
Try inversions.
Kate is a big fan of bridges (where you balance your body on your hands and feet), the Daily Mail says.
23
Don’t forget about the classics.
According to the Daily Mail, Kate does good, old-fashioned push-ups as part of her workouts.
24
Hit the slopes.
Kate loves skiing, and is apparently even better at the sport than William, who has been skiing since he was little, the Daily Mail says.
25
Go swimming.
Apparently Kate loves swimming at her family’s pool at their country home, Anmer Hall. “She and Pippa enjoy strenuous make-up-free aqua aerobic sessions and larky water polo with William and Harry,” a source told the Daily Mail.
26
Go for a run.
Kate runs as often as she can, the Daily Mail says—and sometimes she’ll take her dog Lupo along with her.
27
Get into yoga.
Kate uses yoga to calm her mind and stretch out. Oh, and she “adores” it, according to a Daily Mail source. Apparently Kate is big on seated poses (known as asanas).
28
Keep your posture in mind.
Kate likes to do Pilates, a source told the Daily Mail, “which has helped her posture since having children.”
29
Match sweets cravings with healthy stuff.
When Kate wants something sweet, she mixes up berries with almond milk. “Her organic diet is rich in antioxidants and she adores salads and bowls of seasonal fruits,” a source told the Daily Mail.
30
Take it easy with booze.
Kate likes wine, but doesn’t go overboard. “A 6 p.m. glass of brutally chilled Chardonnay is sufficient,” a source told the Daily Mail.
31
Load up on raw foods.
Kate enjoys noshing on things like watermelon salads, gazpacho, goji berries, tabbouleh, and ceviche, the Daily Mail says. “Kate already has the perfect figure but her motivation is to achieve radiant skin,” a source told the paper.
32
Have a go-to dish.
Kate loves to make roast chicken. “In the evenings she indulges her hobby of cooking William’s favorite supper, roast chicken,” royal expert Katie Nicholl wrote in Vanity Fair. “That’s their idea of the perfect night,” a source told Nicholl.
33
Spice up your food.
During a 2016 tour of Canada, Kate shared that she likes spicy foods, and really likes cooking curries, per the Mirror. (BTW: William shared at the same time that he can’t handle too much heat in his food.)
34
DIY your own condiments.
Kate makes her own chutney, a spicy condiment that originated in India—and she’s made it for the queen. “I was thinking, ‘Gosh, what should I give her?'” she recalled in the ITV documentary, Our Queen At Ninety. “I thought, ‘I’ll make her something.’ Which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny’s recipe of chutney.”
35
Consider the Dukan diet.
Kate is reportedly really into the diet, which limits carbs and focuses on lean proteins, vegetables, and healthy fats and oils.
37
Get outside.
From running, to swimming, to tennis, to walking the dog, Kate likes to take her fitness outside when she can.

Page 4: Kelly Clarkson has been awarded primary custody of her kids River Rose and Remington in her divorce from Brandon Blackstock and though she emerged victorious in that battle she may not be so lucky when it comes to her finances because Brandon is requesting a whopping $436K a month in spousal and child support and he maintains he needs the settlement to be a fair reflection of what he’s entitled to
Page 5: Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton have recently implemented a stern policy limiting the time their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis spend watching TV and playing video games and using their iPads -- the changes come on the heels of lockdown fatigue and like so many parents Will and Kate relaxed their families’ typical day-to-day routines in order to keep their kids entertained as they spent an unprecedented amount of time at home and as a result the kids enjoyed lazy time and free reign with gadgets -- but now Kate’s since created an at-home rewards program where the trio must earn time on devices by completing productive tasks and even then there’s a three-hour cap on electronics and laying down an iron fist seems to have worked because the kids have become Kensington Palace’s most eager little helpers
* Despite his tarnished reputation Matt Lauer is still hoping to be the new face of Jeopardy! -- the disgraced TV anchor has asked his former colleagues to put in a good word for him as producers mull over host options following Alex Trebek’s death -- Matt was previously considered a top contender to replace Alex in 2013 when the host was considering retirement at the time but that was before Matt was fired from the Today show after being accused of sexual harassment by multiple women in 2017 and three years hasn’t been long enough to rehab his image
Page 6: He’s one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors but there’s still one role George Clooney is getting used to: being a dad -- the 59-year-old opened up about the challenges of becoming a father later in life to twins Ella and Alexander with wife Amal Clooney but all jokes aside George couldn’t be more thrilled about being a family man and his age has only made him appreciate the little moments even more
* Heather Gay is paving her own path on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City -- as a self-proclaimed good Mormon gone bad, she balances motherhood and friendships and her career all while dealing with the pressures of being a member of a strict church -- the mother of three is also looking for love and she knows exactly what she wants in future flames even if it conflicts with her religious group’s beliefs: she dates inappropriate and wild and really young men but there’s one caveat: Mormons are off the menu

Page 21: Ciara, Jennifer Lopez
Page 24: It should have been a time for celebrating when Tristan Thompson signed a two-year $19 million contract with the Boston Celtics but Khloe Kardashian wasn’t congratulating him because she is heartbroken her boyfriend has to leave her and their daughter behind to move across the country and with good reason: the two gave their relationship another shot earlier this year after splitting in 2018 amid Tristan’s cheating scandal -- although Khloe had previously relocated to Ohio for Tristan’s career this time she plans to stay put in L.A. near her family and she’s insisting they’ll make their long-distance love affair work but everyone thinks it’s a bad idea given Tristan’s indiscretions
Page 25: Matthew Perry is engaged to Molly Hurwitz -- the two who began dating in 2018 briefly split up in May but they rekindled the romance months later and decided to make it official because they couldn’t stand to be apart -- they’re planning an intimate beach wedding in Malibu which will likely be a booze-free bash as a nod toward’s Matthew’s sobriety -- though the date is still up in the air amid lockdown restrictions the couple have already finalized a guest list which of course includes Matthew’s Friends costars
* Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas fell in love on set of Deep Water in 2019 but now the film is driving a wedge between them -- the erotic thriller has been deemed too violent for audiences so as a result the couple are back on location in New Orleans reshooting scenes and the extra one-on-one time has proven to be too much for Ana who’s eager to move on to other projects and Ana enjoys her own space a lot more than being by Ben’s side 24/7 -- meanwhile Ben is hell-bent on making sure Deep Water is a success so it doesn’t turn into another Gigli which is the 2003 flop he starred in with then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez -- the film isn’t the only thing in limbo as Ben and Ana are beginning to crack amid rising tensions and a demanding film schedule and this has been the biggest test of their relationship for sure
Page 30: Mary-Kate Olsen’s divorce gets nasty -- tensions flare between Mary-Kate and Olivier Sarkozy as they face off in an epic battle over shared property -- the former couple is duking it out in court over an 8000-square-foot NYC townhouse which they renovated to the tune of $3 million

I HEART WORK
Who are you: Paula Flynn
What is your work: Editor of The Shopkeepers
Where can we find you: Website | Twitter | Instagram | Facebook
Describe your work in 5 words: Sharing A World of Shops!
Can you tell us a little about your what you do? I share photos, stories and insights into a community of inspiring shops and shopkeepers. I love to help promote and profile shopkeepers that keep this vibrant tradition relevant in today’s fast evolving world.
Why did you want to start The Shopkeepers? I have a curiosity about the changing world of retail. In the past decade we shop more and more online and there seems to be more products and choices available to us. I was curious about the impact our changing shopping habits would have on bricks and mortar shops. There are many shopkeepers that have created unique experiences for those who still enjoy the tactile and sensory pleasures of visiting beautiful stores. These are the shops I find interesting and like to showcase.
Can you tell us about your career journey and how you got to where you are today? I am a printed textile/fashion graduate from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. I’ve worked as a designer and consultant in both New York and Paris, and some of the brands I have worked for include; Gap, Orla Kiely, Liz Claiborne, Karl Lagerfeld and Chloe. Over the course of my career, I have had experience in all aspects of the retail trade, so have a good understanding of what is involved in creating a successful venture. During the 1990’s, I was very fortunate to have travelled throughout Europe and Asia, including London, Paris and Tokyo, researching shops and trends. It was an amazing experience! I wish I had had an iPhone back then!
I have always appreciated a well-designed, cohesive collection, whether that be a small group of items or a whole store with a compelling point of view. I have a great admiration for designers and retailers that are able to build their concept into a successful business. A few years ago, just after completing a freelance project, I had the idea to start a blog focused solely on shops, as I felt it had not been done by anyone before.
Where is your office/studio and what is the view out of your window? I don’t have a specific office or studio as I am on the move a lot, so that was a big part of the appeal of this project. I can work anywhere! I am based in New York City and from my apartment there my view is a constantly moving tableau of the East River from the 35th floor.
What is the first thing you do when you get to work? Drink coffee and check my emails.
What are the tools of your trade? My Mac Book, Sony camera, iPhone 7+, and a collection of notebooks.
What can’t you work without? All of the above!
Why do you love what you do? I love exploring and the enchantment that comes with the discovery of a new shop or place.
What are your three favourite shops and why? There are way too many I love for various reasons. Biba, Rainbow’s End, and Liberty London are three shops that had a great impact on me, two of which sadly no longer exist. I was lucky to visit the amazing Biba on Kensington High Street, and was completely blown away by it’s originality and merchandising, and probably launched my ‘shop’ fascination. I worked throughout my art college days at Rainbow’s End in Dublin and learned that I had an affinity for retail. As a printed textile student I have always been fascinated by Liberty, and find it an amazing brand with their signature textiles and iconic building.
Who or what inspires you? People that create their own paths in life.
What is the best advice you have received? After graduating college I was so excited to have an interview with Liberty of London. I don’t remember the name of the person I met - but I do remember her advice. She said it wasn’t easy to start a career in design and to persevere, as the biggest hurdle was getting that first job, and that in her experience as many as 50% of candidates gave up and never worked in the field they trained for.
One moment in your career you will always remember? There are several – though getting my first job in a design studio in New York was really exciting.
What is the best part of your job? Being outside, and not stuck behind a desk. I love meeting people and learning new skills all the time.
And the worst? Not having enough time to do everything I would like to.
What are you working on at the moment for The Shopkeepers? Working on publishing more of our ‘Going Places’ guides as possible. The guides are a lovely way to include multiple destinations within one area and have proved popular with our readers.
What single thing would improve the quality of your life? Help with social media – it’s so time consuming!
Can you share any of your favourite websites or Instagram feeds? Instagram: At the moment I am enjoying the creativity of All That Is She, The Slow Traveler and Humphrey & Grace. There are many beautiful floral and styling feeds like Nonihana and Local Milk, and travel feeds like Tiny Atlas Quarterly and Culture Trip that are very inspiring. I love the random nature of scrolling and searching through Instagram and discovering great images and accounts.
Websites: Remodelista and Gardenista are great resources, and they just launched a new site, The Organized Home.
What have you learned the hard way? My way around a computer - sadly it didn’t come naturally.
If you could do another job what would you like to do and why? I would love to be a documentary filmmaker. Since getting behind a lens, I have become intrigued with the film making process and there are so many worthy stories waiting to be told.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to do what you are doing? Blogging consumes a huge amount of time! It’s not just creating content, there is so much involved in social media as well, so if you are going to blog, be sure it’s something you’re passionate about.
If you could be someone for a day who would it be? Annie Leibovitz. I am so much more comfortable taking photographs of inanimate objects. I would love to learn what I could, even in one day, from a master of portrait photography.
Do you have a secret ambition still to achieve? Playing the piano and running a marathon.
What is your personal motto? Life is too short not to do the unexpected sometimes.
What would you like to be doing in five years time? Hopefully The Shopkeepers will have continued to have evolved, so as well as what I’m doing now, I will be able to be involved in other new projects, and continue to travel to new destinations to discover more shops.
If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it? Yoga and reading.
How would you like to be remembered? Kindly.
Thank you Paula for talking to The Lifestyle Editor.

IELTS GENERAL READING TEST 1
You are advised to spend 20 minutes on Questions 1-14. First, read the text below and answer Questions 1-8. A Filling the reservoir Your iron is designed to function using tap water. However, it will last longer if you use distilled water. – Always unplug the iron before filling the reservoir. – Always empty the reservoir after use. B Temperature and steam control Your Moulex iron has two buttons which control the intensity of heat produced by the iron. You can, therefore, adjust the temperature of the iron and the amount of steam being given off depending upon the type of fabric being ironed. – Turn the steam control to the desired intensity. – Turn the thermostat control to the desired temperature. Important: If your iron produces droplets of water instead of giving off steam, your temperature control is set too low. C Spray button This button activates a jet of cold water which allows you to iron out any unintentional creases. Press the button for one second. D Pressing button This button activates a super shot of steam which momentarily gives you an additional 40g of steam when needed. Important: Do not use this more than five successive times. E Suits etc. It is possible to use this iron in a vertical position so that you can remove creases from clothes on coathangers or from curtains. Turning the thermostat control and the steam button to maximum, hold the iron in a vertical position close to the fabric but without touching it. Hold down the pressing button for a maximum of one second. The steam produced is not always visible but is still able to remove creases. Important: Hold the iron at a sufficient distance from silk and wool to avoid all risk of scorching Do not attempt to remove creases from an item of clothing that is being worn, always use a coathanger. F Auto-clean In order that your iron does not become furred up, Moulex have integrated an auto-clean system and we advise you to use it very regularly (1-2 times per month). – Turn the steam control to the off position. – Fill the reservoir and turn the thermostat control to maximum. – As soon as the indicator light goes out, unplug the iron and, holding it over the sink, turn the steam control to auto-clean. Any calcium deposits will be washed out by the steam. Continue the procedure until the reservoir is empty. Questions 1-4 Match the pictures below to the appropriate section in the instructions. Reading passage 3 You should spend about 20 minutes on Questions 30-41 which are based on the reading passage below. PAPER RECYCLING A Paper is different from other waste produce because it comes from a sustainable resource: trees. Unlike the minerals and oil used to make plastics and metals, trees are replaceable. Paper is also biodegradable, so it does not pose as much threat to the environment when it is discarded. While 45 out of every 100 tonnes of wood fibre used to make paper in Australia comes from waste paper, the rest comes directly from virgin fibre from forests and plantations. By world standards this is a good performance since the world-wide average is 33 per cent waste paper. Governments have encouraged waste paper collection and sorting schemes and at the same time, the paper industry has responded by developing new recycling technologies that have paved the way for even greater utilisation of used fibre. As a result, industry’s use of recycled fibres is expected to increase at twice the rate of virgin fibre over the coming years. B Already, waste paper constitutes 70% of paper used for packaging and advances in the technology required to remove ink from the paper have allowed a higher recycled content in newsprint and writing paper. To achieve the benefits of recycling, the community must also contribute. We need to accept a change in the quality of paper prod¬ucts; for example stationery may be less white and of a rougher texture. There also needs to be support from the community for waste paper collec¬tion programs. Not only do we need to make the paper available to collectors but it also needs to be separated into different types and sorted from con-taminants such as staples, paperclips, string and other miscellaneous items. C There are technical limitations to the amount of paper which can be recycled and some paper products cannot be collected for re-use. These include paper in the form of books and permanent records, photographic paper and paper which is badly contaminated. The four most common sources of paper for recycling are factories and retail stores which gather large amounts of packaging material in which goods are delivered, also offices which have unwanted business documents and computer output, paper converters and printers and lastly households which discard newspapers and packaging material. The paper manufacturer pays a price for the paper and may also incur the collection cost. D Once collected, the paper has to be sorted by hand by people trained to recognise various types of paper. This is necessary because some types of paper can only be made from particular kinds of recycled fibre. The sorted paper then has to be repulped or mixed with water and broken down into its individual fibres. This mixture is called stock and may contain a wide variety of contaminating materials, particularly if it is made from mixed waste paper which has had little sorting. Various machinery is used to remove other materials from the stock. After passing through the repulping process, the fibres from printed waste paper are grey in colour because the printing ink has soaked into the individual fibres. This recycled material can only be used in products where the grey colour does not matter, such as cardboard boxes but if the grey colour is not acceptable, the fibres must be de-inked. This involves adding chemicals such as caustic soda or other alkalis, soaps and detergents, water-hardening agents such as cal¬cium chloride, frothing agents and bleaching agents. Before the recycled fibres can be made into paper they must be refined or treated in such a way that they bond together. E Most paper products must contain some virgin fibre as well as recycled fibres and unlike glass, paper cannot be recycled indefinitely. Most paper is down-cycled which means that a product made from recycled paper is of an inferior quality to the original paper. Recycling paper is beneficial in that it saves some of the energy, labour and capital that goes into producing virgin pulp. However, recycling requires the use of fossil fuel, a non-renewable energy source, to collect the waste paper from the community and to process it to produce new paper. And the recycling process still creates emissions which require treatment before they can be disposed of safely. Nevertheless, paper recycling is an important economical and environmental practice but one which must be carried out in a rational and viable manner for it to be useful to both industry and the community. Questions 30-36 Complete the summary below of the first two paragraphs of the Reading Passage. Choose ONE OR TWO WORDS from the Reading Passage for each answer. SUMMARY Example From the point of view of recycling, paper has two advantages over minerals and Oil in that firstly it comes from a resource which is (30) ……………………. and secondly it is less threatening to our environment when we throw it away because it is (31) ……………………. Although Australia’s record in the re-use of waste paper is good, it is still necessary to use a combination of recycled fibre and (32) …………………… to make new paper. The paper industry has contributed positively and people have also been encouraged by (33) ……………………. to collect their waste on a regular basis. One major difficulty is the removal of ink from used paper but (34) ……………………. are being made in this area. However, we need to learn to accept paper which is generally of a lower (35) …………………….than before and to sort our waste paper by removing (36) …………………….before discarding it for collection. Questions 37-41 Look at paragraphs C, D, and E and, using the information in the passage, complete the flow chart below. Use ONE OR TWO WORDS for each answer.

It was breathlessly reported this month by British newspapers that Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s American TV-star girlfriend, had been introduced to Queen Elizabeth II.
The teatime meeting — said to be over finger sandwiches and scones at Buckingham Palace — with her love’s granny was the most significant indicator yet that the 36-year-old “Suits” actress will soon step into her biggest role ever: joining the cast of one of the world’s most celebrated families.
Markle, who was photographed on Sept. 25 holding hands with Harry at the Invictus Games in Canada during their first public outing, is said to have given up her Audi lease in Toronto, where “Suits” films. And her work contract ends in late November.
It seems to be a case of when, not if, an engagement is announced.
Rumors are swirling around London that the 33-year-old prince has already proposed to his squeeze of 15 months after getting permission from his indomitable grandmother.
It’s an understatement to say that free-spirited Markle is about to experience a dramatic lifestyle change. As Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of “Majesty Magazine,” told The Post: “It’s going to be a minefield.”
Sources reveal that as the Los Angeles-raised actress prepares for a very public engagement and wedding, she is also being schooled in the ways of the Firm — the royals’ affectionate nickname for themselves. There’s no special “school” where Markle will learn how to curtsy, hob-knob with foreign dignitaries or emerge from a car without flashing her underwear.
British writer Katie Nicholl told The Post that Prince Harry has been Markle’s main mentor in all things royal.
“He knows how daunting this will be for Meghan and he’s keen for her to be relaxed in the company of senior royals,” she said.
Before the auspicious meeting at so-called “BP,” he would have told his girlfriend how to address the 91-year-old queen, strongly suggesting that she curtsy, even though that’s an optional move these days.
“Harry will have made sure Meghan knew how to address the queen and how to behave in her presence,” says Nicholl, who has written a forthcoming biography of Harry. “He calls her ‘Granny,’ but after Meghan had curtsied and called her ‘Your Majesty,’ she would have reverted to ‘ma’am.’ It seems strange to mere mortals, but it is how [Princess] Kate addresses her.”
The American divorcée will be encouraged to be herself — with one giant caveat.
“She will always have to remember, in public at least, that she is royalty and certain behaviors are expected,” said Seward, whose latest book, “My Husband and I”— chronicling the marriage of the queen and the Duke of Edinburgh — is soon to be published.
“It’s going to be difficult for her because she is an independent career woman who [won’t] really like being told what to do.”
Markle’s position is unprecedented, although there are echoes of the scandalous love affair between divorced US socialite Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII that led to the king’s abdication in 1936.
“We’ve never had an American divorcée marry someone who is in line to the throne,” said Seward. Harry is currently fifth in position, behind his father, Prince Charles, brother, Prince William, nephew George and niece Charlotte. He will be shunted to sixth place after the birth of William and Kate’s third child next April.
“American manners are different than British manners,” Seward added. “[She] can’t walk down the street eating or chewing gum.” Markle will even have to correct her table manners. “We hold our cutlery differently. It’s a whole different culture.”
Markle did well in her new role in a September Vanity Fair cover-story interview, sanctioned by Harry, when she revealed: “We’re two people who are really happy and in love.”
Still, the corridors of Kensington Palace (where Harry lives in an apartment near William and Kate) are a long way from the San Fernando Valley, where Markle was raised by her yoga-teacher mother, Doria, who is black, and lighting-director father, Thomas, who is white.
When she launched an affordable clothing line in 2016, she told the Toronto Star: “I was not a girl who grew up buying $100 candles. I was the girl who ran out of gas on her way to an audition.”
She first attended the private Hollywood Little Red Schoolhouse and then an all-girls’ Catholic school, Immaculate Heart High. Markle studied theater and international relations at Northwestern University, just outside Chicago, where a fellow alumnus remembered her as being “very sophisticated for a college student.
“We were in our early 20s but she seemed like someone 10 years older. She had the poise and grace it takes to being a royal.”
By the time she graduated from college in 2003, Markle had already made her screen debut in “General Hospital,” which led to roles on TV shows such as “90210,” “Knight Rider,” “CSI:NY” and, ultimately, “Suits.”
Charles Rae, former royal correspondent for Britain’s Sun and author of the book “Diana: The People’s Princess,” believes the starlet’s professional skills will come in handy when she signs up with the Firm.
“She’s a natural performer and will chat with people with ease,” he said. “Besides, everyone will be intrigued by her accent.”
It’s not as if Markle lacks experience in public speaking. A global ambassador for World Vision, she traveled with the humanitarian organization to Rwanda for its clean water campaign. Her résumé also includes working for United Nations Women as part of the HeForShe gender-equality movement. All of this earns her extra points with the royal family, as she would be expected to perform charity work and have pet causes as a princess.
Rae, who described the possibility of Markle marrying Harry as “the best thing to happen to the monarchy in years,” revealed that the brunette has been “studying hard” to fit into the lifestyle.
“She has practically been living at Kensington Palace whenever she is in London and will have seen the routine that goes on with the butlers and servants,” he told The Post.
As of late, Markle has been zipping around London in a new Volkswagen — sometimes, but not always, with a driver. According to the Daily Mail, this is significant because the royal family has a deal with VW in which they get a 60-percent lease discount; Princess Kate had a similar deal, leasing an Audi (owned by VW) before marrying William.
It will likely only be after an engagement is announced that Markle will receive formal briefings on her public appearances. A personal assistant will also be hired.
As Seward points out, advance information on how to dress correctly could have helped Markle ahead of the Invictus Games, where she famously wore ripped jeans.
Meanwhile, the royal protection squad, an elite team of police officers, will be on hand to advise her on dealing with the traditional “walkabouts” so loved by the British public.
“She will learn how to cope if someone [in a crowd] comes on too strong,” said Rae. “Ever since John Lennon was shot, the royals have been told never to rebuff anyone. Members of the family, including the queen, have had assassination attempts against them in the past, and no chances will be taken with Meghan.”
As with Grace Kelly, when she became the princess of Monaco, Markle’s “acting career will, of course, be a thing of the past,” Rae said.
Robert Lacey, historical consultant for the hit Netflix series “The Crown,” told The Post that Markle will not be expected to take British citizenship — mainly because of Harry’s low place in line to the throne.
“Her position as the wife of Prince Charles’s second son would not warrant it,” said the author of the upcoming book “The Crown: The Official Companion.”
The Greek-born Duke of Edinburgh [Prince Philip], now 96, became a British citizen in March 1947, eight months before his wedding to the then-Princess Elizabeth.
“Times have changed and the heat is off Meghan,” added Lacey. “She is a new recruit but, apart from being assigned a lady-in-waiting, it would be demeaning for her to get too much advice from courtiers.
“The best person to give Meghan advice would be her fellow divorcée, Camilla [the Duchess of Cornwall and Harry’s stepmother]. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had taken Meghan aside for a strong gin and tonic and some helpful tips on joining the royal family,” Lacey said. “She’s a very funny woman who’s had it all thrown at her but survived.”
Rae said the royals have learned lessons from the ill-fated introductions of both Princess Diana and Sarah, the Duchess of York, to the royal family in the 1980s. “Kate Middleton’s entry into the world went relatively smoothly in comparison.”
Last week, the Daily Mail reported that, when Middleton joined the royal family, an agreement was drawn up among Kate, her parents and Prince William to protect her from undue stress during the first five years of marriage. “Prince Harry is said to be considering a similar agreement to shield [Markle] from palace courtiers who like to keep their charges busy,” said the newspaper.
Speculation is now rife that Markle will appear on the balcony with Kate, Camilla and the queen as princes Charles, William and Harry place wreaths on London’s Cenotaph memorial on Remembrance Sunday, the British equivalent of Veteran’s Day, on Nov. 12.
“Meghan will no doubt follow royal protocol to the letter and wear a nice black coat and hat,” said Lacey, adding that her presence will be another indicator of an impending engagement.
And Christmas is approaching. If Markle is invited to Sandringham, the Norfolk estate where the queen and her family spend the holidays, she might as well be walking down the aisle at Westminster Abbey.
“I just hope she enjoys pheasant shooting,” said Rae. “When the birds drop and they’re not yet dead, Meghan will be expected to join the other royal ladies in wringing their necks.”
“[She] can’t walk down the street eating or chewing gum.”
by: Ingrid Seward
Does Ingrid Seward love to insult people? Is that her favorite past-time? She really needs to let it go, the monarchy has to evolve, modernise, if they are to continue well into the 21st century.
However, I honestly believe that Prince Charles will be the last monarch.
SUBMITTED
I can’t be bothered to read this.
But from the mild skimming, I don’t believe that meeting took place
Of course Harry will help her when need be, that is what the born royal does for his partner - married yet or not.
