once in a while i'll go to ikea/ikea's website just to take a look at what they're doing and yesterday i was made aware they have another "customize however you want it" thing with a type of shelf. and like. i'm not going to say that it's not a smart marketing move because truly, it is. But what in the past was just "you get to choose what style of a box you put into these shelves" evolved into. everything. you can add everything to these motherfuckers
#this sounds like smth the Most Boring Person On Earth would say but i already told my partner and i still need to share#i think what gets me is that contrast. because the shelves themselves have been there for a while#and afaik it was just the boxes's styles you could pick#but now it's like#you can put a door in one(1) box of the shelf. you can choose between a variety of doors. u can split a box of the shelf in 2#with an insert that's made of glass and has a glass door too. you can put an insert with these small shelf boxes for wine#yknow the ones where u put the wine sideways#you can put different separators too#you can put in drawers (with variety too)#and i wouldnt be surprised if there was more i forgot#like they really went wild with customization on that one

#kingdom hearts dream drop distance#khddd#symphony of sorcery#scenery#my gif#i originally planned on splitting this set in two and wanted to create separate posts for both sides of this world#but i was surprised that i struggled with that and many of my shots didn't feel distinct enough when i put them all together#dunno how i messed that up so bad since this world has so much going for it#so i had to scrap a good chunk of what i made but i actually think it looks better this way so maybe it's not such a bad thing#sora's side is on the left (except for the last gif) and riku's is on the right#it gives you a better feel for how varied and different these magical realms are#and yeah that's what they're called#anyways i'm so glad this world exists because it's so experimental and different#everything from the visuals to the music and how sora and riku's battle sounds are instead replaced by more music#as if they're composing it themselves#which of course ties into how they must find and collect their sound ideas#it's all so incredible and works perfectly for a game centering around dreams#i hope we can see more unique worlds like it in future games too

#listen it's too late for me to be very articulate about it (and i'm only on s3 now; the rest of the show is kind of hazily blending) but#one of the things i find most interesting about the red john plot...or jane's pursuit of red john maybe#is how ...individualized? it is#obviously the characters have different opinions on it - is his mission right; is it justified; would it help him; would it condemn him#and you as a viewer can side with one opinion more than others (and the opinions change as the show goes on -it's dynamic#which is another interesting but separate train of thought)#but imo/iirc the show itself - the narrative i guess - never makes any outright statement/judgement/comes to any definitive conclusion#on the matter#idk it's just even this - obviously everything's part of the larger narrative but at the same time#his asking does illustrate at least some level of doubt that he didn't seem to have in the last two seasons#is it because of lisbon; and the team; because of kristina; because of the strain it's putting on himself#(probably not the last one; he is demonstrably cavalier when it comes to his own wellbeing)#and he just happens to have the perfect man to express those doubts to right in front of him#(and that man just happens to be noah bennet alskdfja)#had winter said no what would his reaction have been? would his doubts have gotten worse - led to him taking a step towards giving it up?#would he have doubled down? we have no way of knowing because for this man; for this character it was worth it#and that helps shore up jane's belief that it would still be worth it to him too#idk i'm not making sense but it just feels like there's a level of grey area/audience interpretation to this story#rather than a hard line being drawn (by the story itself) on whether the actions taken in it are good or bad and i appreciate that#character-focused vs a morality tale maybe but that's more of an extreme phrasing#anyway ignore me i'm -#tm

bg3 is one of the only games where i’ve had to take some space away with it due to content. and honestly? i think that’s a good thing
#i’m usually very good at separating my emotions from a character’s emotions/my past from a character’s past#i can probably count the number of movies/tv shows/games i’ve cried because of in one hand (the first one was angel. that finale got me.)#but bg3 is different in that i haven’t cried bc something was too sad/emotionally powerful but that i needed to physically step away#the similarities between astarion and myself became kind of unbearable but in a good way? like it was painful but it was well-done#idk if not for my past of SA i rlly don’t think his storyline would hit that hard to me personally. but because i see so much of myself#in his mannerisms and how he puts on a façade of being hypersexual it just. it just rlly gets me man#and this is GOOD WRITING!! it’s GOOD FUCKING WRITING!! but it’s very bittersweet for me bc i feel like i can relate to his storyline on#another level but it also causes such emotional pain that i wish i could disengage from it. just my thoughts tho#also just wanted to say: i don’t think it was ever confirmed that astarion was assaulted by cazador but he does textually have issues with#intimacy and sexuality as a result of cazador. so obv while our experiences are not the same i think it’s fair to draw parallels as long as#you don’t take implication as fact. anyway.#bg3#baldur’s gate 3#discussion of assault in tags

It seemed like everytime I edited a video it'd cut nearly#in half (so like an hour long vid would end up being about 30 minutes after editing).#And thats not even the longest one.. the SPECIES slideshow on all the different cultures and groups and stuff?#Legitimately fearing if I put it all in one video (how I want to.. for organization purposes) it will be like 9 hours long#BUT that's all for the future hopefully. right now I'm taking a small break from working on it to do other things lol#I at least got the first video out of the way.. it's a start ... Night in the Woods and Pathologic 2 are literally the same game, beyond a few superficial contrasts in presentation there isn’t a single difference.
#this is a vaguepost @ my sister#it is a joke but also if you try to challenge this statement i WILL defend it#*ahem* in this game you play as someone returning to their small town after having left for college (which they did not complete)#the character is honestly great. sarcastic little shit who might stab you but has a heart of gold and is a hero of the people.#the town is a part of you but you're also separate. your home feels like it changed but maybe you're the one who's different.#the town itself is a character. the autumnal atmosphere is not only beautiful but also perfectly ties in with the story's themes of change#the central conflict to the setting of course being the tensions between the past/tradition and the future/progress#drastic measures are employed in order to fight back against all the inevitabilities of industrialization involving ancient powers that be#and you're left to unravel its secrets and address it in just under two weeks before more people get killed#the game is set around 12 days plus a prologue and an epilogue#anyway. you arrive in town and go to your parents house and get in touch with three childhood friends. nothing is the same as when you left.#day 1 will also slap you in the face with a murder mystery but it's far too early for the full scope of the story to be revealed#in the following few days you get to explore the town and choose which npc's to spend time with#the game is designed so that you never have the time to do everything. many events will be locked forever if you don't do them on given days#your character is brash and possibly even violent but still finds themself mentoring kids and showing kindness to strangers#you also talk with a number of older more engrained members of the community and learn about the town's history and spirituality from them#there's a stark contrast between the full and bustling streets vs the abundance of abandoned spaces and empty buildings#you'll also discover that your dreams are packed with meaning and symbolism and will sometimes even see you commune with supernatural forces#tensions will rise as you uncover more and more pieces of the mystery. this ultimately culminates in a journey into the earth below the town#your character visits the magical pit that resides there where you learn the final truths of the story and can finally put it all together#you make a fateful choice in hopes of saving the town and the game ends allowing you to wander it one last time to see the results#you can take your time and when you're ready to end the game you return to a stage you've visited so often for your final goodbyes#of course the similarities don't end there. the weather. the rats. earth/sky dichotomies. the discussions of labor movements.#the church conspicuously lacking any christian iconography. the giant animals as a representation of god but also not. the color palettes.#the human characters who look like stylized dogs and birds. the empty theater. man i could go on forever.#they even each have a side story where you play as a traveling scholar trying to unravel the secrets that lie beyond the veil of death#if i were a games youtuber i would make this into a 20 minute video with spliced footage from both games#for those who don't get the joke nitw has the coziest vibes my side of gaming despite its inherent sadness and patho2 is a survival horror

I love coming back to Minecraft after not playing for months or years, because some of the changes are so unexpected in the best possible way. I almost started crying today because I tamed a cat and when I got in bed to sleep it sprinted over to lay down on top of me, and when I woke up it had brought me a piece of string as a gift 😭
#Minecraft animals in general have my whole heart#I first discovered animals can get in minecarts when my cat suddenly jumped in my minecart and rode it all the way down to the mine#(different save file)#I was organizing my chests with my cat#And I heard a meow and then the sound of the minecart launching off#Turned around and there was no sign of cat nor minecart#Ran all the way down the track (which was quite long) and found my cat in the cart at the bottom just chilling#Also today in my current save file I accidentally stole a wandering trader's llama#I had a boat with chest parked next to my farm and the llama got into the boat#Also caused the lead to drop so at least I can now keep my horse nearby without relegating her to the chicken pen#Felt kind of bad about stealing the llama#But I broke the boat to release the llama and there's no sign of the trader nor the llama so I'm guessing they left together? idk#Also my cat kept getting stuck in the boat so I ended up putting it away#Also separately this cat I also accidentally stole from an NPC whoops#Last I was aware you could only get pet cats by taming ocelots#So yesterday I found a village and there were cats wandering around so I was like ok cool NPCs can have pets now too#And I gave one cat some fish to be nice and then it suddenly sat down with a collar and became mine#Oops#To be fair though I basically just did what my cousin does every time she goes to Turkey lmao#Finds cats wandering around a village#Feeds the cats to be friendly#Ends up being followed around by the cats

So I have no idea what’s going on w/ this Sweden thing, but, like, it’s bizarre how none of the discourse I’m seeing seems to comment on how there is a super big difference between just not giving a guest food and making that guest wait in your room while you eat.
Like, it’s totally reasonable to me that, if you have the cultural expectation that your guest is not expecting to eat at your house and will be able to eat at home, you won’t feel the need to feed your guest. Because they’re not over to your house for a meal. But, in that reddit screenshot I see, like, yeah that is super bizarre. If you’re not gonna feed your guest, if your guest isn’t over for dinner, when you’re gonna have dinner you send them home. Especially if they’re a child, who might not be as aware that they should head home in time for dinner.
People are v. much equating the two things, and condemning both, when, IMO, only one is really, universally condemnable, while the other can be reasonable assuming different cultural expectations.
#also the people who are trying to ‘cancel’ a country are stupid#esp. when half the comments from Swedes I’ve seen are like yeah no I’ve never seen this happen#but mostly I’m kinda annoyed by how the internet seems to treat cultural norms as like moral imperatives#so other cultural norms are like condemned morally#like#I saw someone connect discrimination against immigrants in Sweden to the idea that it’s not a cultural norm to feed guests#and like#those are two very separate things#the discrimination and xenophobia against immigrants is not caused by a cultural expectation that you have meals at home#cultural norms can be harmful#but like#you can’t just assume that they are#and that all flaws of a society are connected to their cultural norms#American racism was not caused by the expectation that you take home food from a restaurant to have for lunch the next day#it reminds me of the shoes off inside discourse#including the not differentiating btwn two different things#like yeah#obvs it’s weird not to take your shoes off if their dirty or you’re in someone’s home and they ask you too#and it makes more sense to assume shoes off if there’s carpeting#and it’s weird to put your shoes on upholstery#there’s a difference between tracking mud into a carpet#and wearing the same shoes that you’ve worn p much only inside#on a hard floor#after having wiped your shoes on the welcome mat#a lot of times different cultures have different cultural norms#and you know what#a lot of times#that’s okay#what seems weird to you might actually not be harmful so long as people are on the same page

I've done a video game character gender loop
When I was younger and closeted and pre-T I always made male characters in video games and chose male avatars in those virtual social spaces like PS Home and LINE PLAY sometimes not even realizing the reason was because being a boy felt so right
Now I've started a trend recently of making female bodied characters in video games who are men. Being a boy in games still feels right, but it also feels good to see this person with a body like mine and get to go "yeah he's a guy, regardless of all that"
Anyway shout out to Cyberpunk 2077 and Monster Hunter: World for helping me achieve true gender euphoria with their character creators
#pronouns in cp2077 are a separate option to body type and you can put facial hair on the female models in mh:w !!#i also do this in destiny since i like how the armor sets arent different between “genders”#i think the only game i wouldnt is ffxiv because male viera are already pretty feminine and i do prefer my characters to have flat chests#but i can be slutty in ffxiv with a male model too#generally i pick female for those games because of general body shape and face options#kar rambles
