Ok I just watched Hubbell/Donohue’s 2021 RD at worlds to Burlesque and I’m obsessed with this music for the Finnstep having really only watched VM’s Finnstep. Have you seen the performance? Do you like it? And if you’re so inclined to do this, how would you compare their technique to VM in Dream a Little Dream (which I love so much)? Thanks!
Hello! Thanks for the ask!
I have seen that performance. I love the finnstep, it's probably one of my favourite ice dance patterns, along with the golden waltz and the tango romantica.
I enjoyed it a lot that season because I thought Hubbell and Donohue had one of the better finnsteps. I'm sad to say you could really see a decline in quality in the level of steps since 2014, and most team really struggled with the quick, detailed, and intricate movements required for that pattern.
Everyone, Madi included really struggled with the twizzle at the beginning of the pattern, the women were putting their foot down, they were falling out of it, not actually doing a twizzle at all, it was rough out here. Tessa's twizzle was wonderful, she was sure, quick and her and Scott stayed in character. I also think Tessa and Scott skated closer together, which they were known for and experts at. By the time the finnstep came back around, the open hold trend had been en vogue for more than 6 years, and you could tell. H/B had solid speed and kept up their speed, but they could get a little messy in their feet/legs and didn't have quick snap that I think V/M excelled at.
To quote the iconic Tracy Wilson: "They say a finnstep should be like sparkling champagne. Bubbly, light, and crisp."
She compared Tessa and Scott to Dom Perignon, and I think Madi and Zack were just didn't have the level of effervescence and ease that was required for the steps to really flourish, but they did a solid job.

reddie 38?
38. “Why haven’t you kissed me yet?” - feat. figure skater Eddie and ice hockey player Richie.
* * * * *
As the music poured through the speakers, Eddie focused on his movements as he skated across the ice, twirling and jumping when the routine called for it. Ever since he was little, being on the ice had been his dream. He had grown up watching the skaters on the TV, begging his mother and father to enrol him in classes, which they eventually did. Now, sixteen years later he was twenty one and heading straight for the Olympics.
That is, if he could master the damn double axel jump.
It wasn’t that he couldn;t do the jump, because he could just fine. It was the landing that he was having difficulty with, with every attempt it was a stumble or an ungraceful landing, which was beginning to annoy the hell out of his mother. She wasn’t even his coach, but because she was the one paying for his lessons and rink time, she believed her opinion overruled everyone else's, even his coach’s.
“Edward, for goodness sake, I’m not paying for you skate like a hippopotamus! I pay for you to skate like a swan, glide across the ice, land as though it's no effort at all! You’ll never qualify for the Olympics skating like that!” His mother screamed through the auditorium and Eddie came to a halt on the side of the rink, breathing heavily.
He looked up at his mother, who was red in the face next to his horrified coach. Normally, his mother kept her more...insulting comments to when it was just him and her in the rink, but sometimes she couldn’t help herself. His coach, Maggie Tozier, whipped her head around to face Sonia, a scowl on her face. “Mrs Kasprak, if you are going to treat my skater like that I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”
The look on his mother’s face told Eddie that she was about to set off. She squared up Maggie and crossed her arms, “I’m the one paying for your time here, therefore I’m not leaving. If I want to give my son some tough love then I will, it’s a harsh world out there and sometimes he needs some harsh criticism so he can be better!”
“Or maybe your words will make him worse, because he won’t stop trying to please you,” Maggie snapped back, not backing down. Their arguing seemed to gain the attention of Mr Corcoran, the owner of the rink, who stuck his head out of his office and pointed to one of the private rooms away from the rink.
Eddie watched with a sigh as both his mother and his coach walked down towards the room, the door slamming behind them. Silence filled the rink and Eddie at least had peace for a few moments while they fought over the best way to teach him skating. He was just about to skate over to the music and attempt the jump again when someone from the other side of the rink called his name.
He turned around and when he saw the owner of the voice, Eddie’s cheeks turned a light pink. It was his coach’s son, Richie Tozier, who was also one of the stars of the Derry Ice Hockey Team. He wasn’t dressed in his gear yet, but his bag was slunk over his shoulder, which meant Eddie’s rink time was coming to an end. He smiled and skated over, placing his hands on the edge of the rink. “Hey, Richie.”
“Hey there, Spaghetti,” Richie grinned back, glancing around the bleachers of the rink. “Where is everyone? Not often I get the chance to speak to you alone with either your mom or my mom scolding me for distracting you.”
Eddie sighed once more, rolling his eyes, “They are arguing...again. This time it’s about the best way to tell me that I suck.” He shrugged and Richie’s eyes widened. “Not- not that your mom said that I suck or anything, but my mom? She thinks I’m a hippo because I can’t land the double axel smoothly.”
Richie blinked and tilted his head to the side, “You mean the most difficult jump in skating? You mean the one my mom only really introduced you to a few weeks ago? That jump?” He asked and Eddie nodded his head. “Damn, your mother is brutal Eds, no offence.” He smiled. “If it is any consolation to you, I think you are the best skater that my mom has ever taken on. None of the others ever made as much progress or are as half as motivated as you are.”
At that, Eddie lit up, trying to contain his smile as best as he could. He wasn’t going to deny it, Eddie had a huge ass crush on Richie, and he was pretty sure that Richie felt the same way about him. The only thing really keeping them apart was Sonia and her stink eye whenever Richie so much as breathed in Eddie’s direction. For some reason, since the moment they met, his mother had developed a hatred for Richie, even though his mother was Eddie’s coach. In Eddie’s opinion, it made no sense.
Richie was smiling at Eddie, a smile that was only really reserved for him, and he opened his mouth as though he was about to say something, but he never got the chance as his mother’s shrill voice screamed through the rink. “EDWARD!” Eddie whipped his head around to see Sonia barging towards them, Maggie close on her tail. She approached Richie and jabbed one of her chubby fingers into his chest. “What have I told you, keep away from my son. All you’ll do is distract him and my Eddie doesn’t need any distractions if he is going to be a champion.”
“Get your hands off of my son, Sonia. What have I told you before,” Maggie hissed as she appeared behind them. “Richie, please go to the locker room and get ready for practice. Zack will be here soon and he’ll want you all on the rink and ready to go.”
With a sigh, Richie nodded and turned to head to the locker room. He stopped a few steps away and turned back around. “I know you don’t like me very much, and that’s fine, but you really shouldn’t treat Eddie like crap. He is a fantastic skater, and by putting him down the way you do, you’re the one most likely to distract him.” He turned to Eddie, who was still on the ice, staring at him in shock and awe. “See you around, Eds.” He winked and turned away, heading to the locker room.
Once he was out of sight, both his mother and Maggie turned to face Eddie. Before his mother could speak up though, Maggie stepped forward, “Your mother has agreed to stop attending our lessons together. In order to give you more time to focus with me on the ice. She will still come with you to your private sessions when she can though.” She smiled. “Hit the locker room, practice is over for the day and the Ice Resurfacer needs to clean the ice for the Hockey Team. We’ll work on that jump tomorrow, okay?”
Eddie nodded his head and, ignoring his mother, he skated to the edge of the rink and towards the other locker room to change. On his way there, he passed by the Hockey Team’s private locker room and happened to overhear his name being mentioned. Unable to stop himself from listening in, Eddie moved a little closer.
“You still haven’t told him? Damn Rich, this is getting insane.” Bill Denbrough spoke and Eddie could just tell he was rolling his eyes. “You come to practice early every day just so you can get a chance to either watch him skate or flirt with him until your mom...or his mom, chases you away. Just tell him and put us out of our misery.”
What could they be talking about? What did Richie need to tell him? He didn’t get a chance to think too much over it, as Richie spoke up. “Oh really Bill, and what do you suggest I say? “Oh hey Eddie! Why haven’t you kissed me yet? I’m crazy ‘bout ya!” He heard Richie sigh heavily. “We’re friends and I don’t...I don’t want to distract him. He deserves to qualify for the Olympics in the trials next month.”
Eddie didn’t stay to hear any of the rest, as he could hear his mother's voice approaching. Quickly, he dodged into the locker room and changed out of his outfit and back into his normal clothes, running a hand through his hair as he looked in the mirror. His cheeks were flushed red and a smile was threatening to appear. Richie liked him back. Richie wanted to kiss him.
As he left the locker room, the Hockey Team were leaving theirs, heading to the rink to start their practice. His mother was by the door, waiting for him and he caught Richie’s eye as they walked past each other. Then, Eddie stopped and turned back around, “Richie! Wait!”
Richie stopped and turned around, his brows furrowed in confusion as Eddie approached him. He bit his lip and finally let himself smile as he pushed up on his toes, settling his hands on Richie’s shoulders and pressing their lips together in a soft, first kiss.
Immediately, all the boys started to holler and wolf whistle, causing Eddie to pull back with a flush on his cheeks, matching Richie’s own. “Eds?” He breathed, ignoring all his teammates. “You- what?”
“Dinner, you and me, tomorrow after practice?” Eddie asked and Richie nodded, almost dumbfounded, but he finally broke into a grin.
“Pick you up at seven Spaghetti,” he winked, just as Zack Denbrough whistled for them all to get on the ice or they would be facing some serious warm ups. He backed away, unable to take his eyes off of Eddie.
Eddie bit his lip and blew Richie a kiss, getting out a giggle as RIchie jumped into the air and caught it, pressing his fist to his lips and he waved softy. “I can’t wait.”

@juliesdahlias ❤
Pearl, ahh!!! I love her so freaking much! I'm in awe of her talent literally everyday, like I mean this in the best way possible, but she can literally do so much with so little when it comes to writing. Like, first off it's amazing in and of itself that she can do those requests where you just send in a single sentence because I know for me like. I have to have the idea first, I usually can't write around a single piece of dialogue, so the fact that she can do that, and do that so expertly, is a true testament to her talent. Also, she'll literally write just a few paragraphs at most, some of them maybe just a line or two, but she never fails to make them AMAZING and so full of emotion and feelings, like I know when I'm tagged in a new little drabble/one-shot I'm about to feel some feelings 😂😂 she's also so incredibly supportive, like I didn't even have a name for Izzy in the beginning, just a vague idea and a few traits, but her simply asking me about her is what caused things to eventually snowball into what we have now jdjfjd also when she asked me about my platonic Zack/London thoughts even though she's not entirely familiar with suite life, like imagine being so supportive of your friends that you ask them their thoughts on something when you don't even really know entirely what they're talking about 🥺😭 I love making little gif tutorials for her and seeing what she does with them, like she's already SO GOOD at making gifs, like the coloring is always spot on and the scenes always work well together. I was going through my art tag the other day and I found a drawing she did of Madi, and that was so amazing too, like literally is there anything she cant do? No, there isn't. The only reason I haven't followed her back is because I try not to follow too many teenagers at once, but I do stalk her page sometimes just to see what she's talking about and how she is.
Basically I just love her a lot and I hope she knows that 💕

Bob & Lindsey Panel: Supanova QLD
So I attended the panel for Bob and Lindsey at Supanova over the weekend and it was such a wonderful experience. The only thing that topped it was meeting Bob, who was such a sweetheart. I don’t think my smile from that day will fade anytime soon. Anyway during the panel I took a lot of notes about what they shared (thank god for short hand, but even doing that nearly killed me lol). Ill be paraphrasing most of what I got, but I did also manage to get some direct quotes. Enjoy!
- Bob’s first impression of Lindsey was he thought she was too beautiful to play a mechanic.
- Lindsey first met Bob at the table reading for episode 2. Her first impression of him was she thought he was very sweet and smiley. She then mimicked him saying “Hi, I’m Bob.” lol
- Bob’s favourite season to shoot was season 4. Although he enjoyed season 1, but he was very hard on himself. Lindsey’s favourite was season 1 as they didn’t know what they were making.
- Back in season 1 the cast and crew got to go to a theatre and watch the first 4 episodes. From there everyone got excited about what they were making.
- Bob spoke briefly about his Home and Away days. Lindsey was very curious about the character he played and was asking him questions. (His character was Drew Curtis - bad boy from the city - in case people are wondering. I used to watch him on the show back in my teens). Lindsey said she couldn’t imagine him playing the bad guy, which Bob got a bit offended and said “What do you mean?” But he said it in such a whiny voice, that people just cracked up laughing lol. After that he said “Okay, i see what you mean.” LOL.
- The cast get their trailers rotated every season. Bob complained he usually finds Chewy’s food bowl in his.
- Bob got his role in the 100 in the first week of arriving in the states. (WOW).
- Bob said he’s craziest fan experience was back when he was doing Home and Away. They were doing a meet and greet at a shopping centre and a lady wanted a piece of his hair.
- Someone asked them what they think their characters miss most while up in space. A lot of people in the audience yelled out ‘Clarke’. But Bob said fresh air lol. But then added Octavia, as he does think she’s alive. Lindsey couldn’t think of anything right away so Bob said “Wick”. Lindsey then joked and said “He’s dead to me. You never speak of him.” She then added she would miss her friends, like Abby.
- Bob is excited for episode 2 in season 5 and both agreed episode 11 is a good one too.
- Lindsey said season 3 was the most challenging for her and Bob said season 3 and 5. Lindsay found it difficult to play Raven, as she also had to play her off as zen. But both agreed the challenges were good.
- At this point Bob hasn’t seen episode 1 of season 5, but knows there has been some strong reactions…
- They spoke briefly about space crew and how their closeness will dictate their actions in the new season. They’re a family. Lindsay then said it will be the same with Clarke and her relationship with Madi.
- Lindsey said In season 4 when Raven’s brain was dying a lot of the crew came and gave her hugs goodbye as they really thought Raven was going to die.
- Bob said sometimes when he reads a script he has to contact Jason and talk though stuff about what is actually happening and for consistency. He’s never been afraid of Bellamy dying.
- Bob said the set of Polis was bought from the show ‘’Falling Skies” and was extended.
- Someone asked if they could play another character who would it be. Lindsey said Clarke. Both agreed that Clarke’s journey in season 5 is a good one. Lindsey suggested for Bob to play Murphy. Bob then started talking about how cool it would be for him and Richard to do a body swap like Freaky Friday.
- Someone asked them how do they think their character’s would die. Bob said probably doing something stupid to save Octavia. That the relationship can make Bellamy a bit irrational. Bob said he would die for his own siblings so he can understand it, although he would like to think it would be for something heroic not stupid.
-Someone then called out “Lincoln”…I have no idea why lol. Bob then said “Do you know how many people were there who let him die? Miller, Bryan, Monty. Everyone was there and no one stopped it.” They had Bellamy chained to a wall saying he’s bad but it was their plan too. Bob then joked and said “Yep its all my fault.”
-  Lindsey said its hard to fight or not like a character when they’re friends with the actor in real life. She prefers not knowing the actor personally and just concentrating on the character. Bob agreed with this and started talking about Zack, how he was friends with him before the show and that he couldn’t take him seriously as a bad guy.
- Lindsey said she felt a lot of the characters grew and found their strengths as the seasons progressed (eg. Octavia) but Raven came out strong and determined immediately. What she liked was that they broke Raven down so she was able to explore her vulnerability and so by season 4 she was building herself back up again and bringing herself back to life.
- Bob said he still doesn’t understand the line he had to say to Clarke in season 4 when he was trying to open the hatch, but glad people seemed to have got it. I think someone in the audience told him it was symbolic.
-Lindsey is always surprised when Raven does something impulsive as she is very logical. An example she brought up was when she slept with Bellamy in season 1. She was quite shocked when she read the script for it.
- Someone asked out of the cast members who’s characters have been killed off who do they miss the most. Bob said Devon. They both mentioned Aj and Mike Beach. Bob said Mike helped him out a lot in season 3 in how he handles himself. He admitted he can get quite frustrated and punish himself. But Mike taught him to laugh it off and just start again.
- In season 2 where they were having the feast with the grounders. There was a large amount of the cast there, and those who didn’t have lines would just throw food at each other. It took them 2 days to shoot.

Same anon as the Gadbois packaging question: H/D, Disco brits, Canadanes, L/L and I'd be seriously interested to see what you'd give P/C.
Okay! So, if I was in charge of music/packaging for these teams, here's what I would do:
Hubbell and Donahue. I would give them something slow but jazzy, something like the song Hot Dreams by a band called Timber Timber, the ending of that song would just be an excellent vehicle for a step sequence/choreographic sequence and/or twizzles, I think they could do it amazing justice. I see Madi in some for of bedazzled black dress with long sleeves, but black stones not silver ones, so that its just like a texture difference and very subtle, Zack could be in all black with some slight matching to Madi. Listen to that song, and tell me they wouldn't rock the hell out of it.
The Disco Brits. This one is hard, because they have really only done one style and have very much stuck to that. I think I'd like to see them do a more rock music type program? Something where they could still show personality, but where they aren't just giving sass and fun, but they also aren't giving lamenting heartbreak and brooding. More soulful and enticing, maybe something like an Alabama Shakes program? They could have some instrumental to start and then the singing could come in in the second half, because I think they have really really relied on the use of lyrics in the story telling of their skating, and I'd like to see them do something without that support there. I think they would have fun with a song like On Your Way, the way it builds and has quieter moments, then more intense moments. Lilah could wear something similar to what Britney Howard wore on SNL, that sort of shimmering dark blue sleeveless piece, and Lewis could match with a bit more mesh, cause that boy loves some mesh. I think that would be really interesting for them.
Canadanes...hmm...I would give them similar music to what Shoma Uno skated to in 2016-17, the Buenos Aires hora cero and Balada para un loco, get some interesting Astor Piazolla in there. Give Lolo a deep open back dress, in like a dark green forest colour with a long enough skirt that she can play with it, but a high neck, and a simple black high waisted pants and white shirt for Nik I think. They could kill a sort of tango program that was a different style and feeling from the Spanish Caravan program they had a couple years ago. I'd love to see them do something like that, they have an intensity and sensuality that would just kill a program like that.
For Marjo and Zak, I want them to come back to something similar to their Warsaw Concerto, but not exactly that. With Zak's piano playing, I think something classic and piano based would really suit them and let them both shine. It's been done, and its considered a warhorse, but I think they could do a really really good Rach. 2 program. With the correct choreography, and the right music cut, they could create SUCH a moment. They have the speed for when the music gets fast to really match it well. No tea no shade, but then Marjo also wouldn't have anything to sing along to and be distracting, and I would love that. For costumes, I'm seeing like a dark teal coloured dress with bright silver crystals. Simple but elegant, and a matching shirt for Zack. Him in sleeves, her not. Sometimes, a team needs a warhorse, and that's that on that.
Both amazing and hilarious you asked me about P/C, because honestly? Anything. Anything besides the lyrical, overwrought, boring, pretentious shit they have been pedaling for the last 7 years I would love to see. Just for the novelty of it. The issue is that I don't really know what else they could handle? We've seen repetitively in the short dance that they struggle with anything that isn't Their Style, or they just turn the necessary rhythm into their style, like their slow as hell Fame program. I think I would like to see them do something with fast paced music, because historically they cannot handle it even a little bit. Like, let's see them do a Hip Hip Chin Chin program, just for shits and giggles and for chaos. They could wear something bright and colourful, no pastels, and no long sleeves for her, she also can't wear a long skirt to hide her legs and give the impression they are moving faster than they actually are, and he can't wear a deep v or mesh. Those are the only stipulations I'd put.
This was fun, and it got really long!
