hi vic oh well you see that post was a joke because i really do want to talk about it at all times but also i am incapable of. doing that.

so what i am going to do is write down my negative thoughts on the cw's crazy ex girlfriend. bc this blog is a very cxg-positive space and so i never really talk about the things i didnt like. and also bc i literally cant express how much this show means to me and how much i love it, so we'll talk about that instead. and also bc im a hater

so i think it's way too long. i think dividing the story into 4 seasons was a right choice, but whoever decided on the format (40 minutes per episode, at least 13 episodes a season) was wrong. i just noticed s1 and s4 are both 18 episodes each and s2+s3 are 13 episodes each, which. lovely, from a jewish perspective. but they did not need to have that many episodes.

Especially season 1. season 4 has some fillers (and some bad fillers. cats episode comes to mind), but at least it was at a point where rebecca was in a better place so they were a little less painful to watch. season 1 should have been the shortest imo, bc the main theme of it is denial, and you do not need 18 40 minutes episodes to talk about denial. and just in general, the whole pacing is off; if youre like me and you see yourself in rebecca and in the story (and you really love the songs), then sitting through the whole show will be worth it. but if youre not, and you don't, it could be an unnecessarily painful watch even if you do think the story all in all is beautiful and worth telling.

another thing i want to touch on really quickly is something shosh put into words for me - this show was very obviously written by straight women. and it does have some very very good queer rep (specifically, it has some of the best bi rep ive ever seen); but it also misses, especially when it comes to the female characters in the main cast (like, rebecca's "1.8 on the kinsey scale" comment. what is that). also yeah im a heather/valencia truther and the writers were dumb for not seeing that.

I was rereading your breakdown of the playlists and I was kind of intrigued by how you outright stated that David's insecurities are not related to his transness but to the power things - because, like, I don't think it's all meant to be a 1:1 metaphor, but specfic stories like that exist very much in conversation with more mundane issues people face so that distinction stood out to me? Like, people such as David get detained in places that feel and work and look like the institutions in Inhibit IRL for various non-specfic reasons, and stories like this are a bit of a dialogue with these issues, especially one like this that goes into the mundane little miseries of it all. Hey that's a good question! For sure there are real-world counterparts to a lot of the themes of Inhibit, but specifically when it comes to my queer characters I wanted the story to be completely neutral about their queerness. I do have a lot of thoughts on this so this might be long haha. Hopefully I cover everything I want to cover, I wrote this whole thing out and then hit ctrl+z to delete a line and Tumblr deleted the entire post without letting me ctrl+y because this is a working website that doesn't suck ass. I had to retype it all so I'm sorry if any of it is disconnected, I couldn't remember the exact order I said everything argh ANYWAY

When I started writing Inhibit I didn't realise I was trans, and then I came out as nonbinary, and then I started to transition, so I've had a whole spectrum of thinking "how should I handle transness in this comic?" over my time working on it. Pretty early on I decided that none of the characters would suffer because of being trans, they wouldn't have any anxiety about it, other characters wouldn't treat them differently etc; the story takes place in a world where superpowers are real, so it wouldn't be crazy for transness to also just be normal and accepted there lmao

However now I think that this is a pretty reductive way to represent the trans experience. Like it or not, being trans informs almost everything about you, and I didn't let my trans characters have that nuance. Vic being a white, seemingly cis* seemingly het** dude is pretty central to his character arc***, so actually examining queerness in this society would have been interesting. There was room to do that; something that is canon and just has never come up is that Urquhart sponsors their trans officers' HRT etc so they don't need to go through the NHS, meaning those officers are reliant on Urquhart long past their service. You're right: what would a conversation between the mundane and fantastical elements of Inhibit look like? I, 2023 Eve, would like to have that conversation! But this far into the story, I kinda missed the train on it.

I honestly think that I haven't done a good job at highlighting my trans characters, particularly for an audience that doesn't expect to see trans characters. I don't think I've done David and Masha justice as trans characters beyond little nods that readers could miss or not even understand, and there are some characters whose nonbinary/trans identities have just never been mentioned (Holly is nb, Jezza and Toby are trans - again just hasn't come up because of scenes and lines changing or being cut, there's so much that you can't fit into a story even when it's as long as this). So to finally answer your question, it isn't that I didn't want people to reduce David to his transness, because I don't think there's enough of his transness in the comic for that to even happen. I don't think anyone reads Inhibit and thinks oh yeah, David, you know, the trans one. It really was that at the time of writing the playlist breakdowns, I was firm that none of the Inhibit characters had anxiety or neuroses about being trans. Instead, all their neuroses were about their superpowers, because that's the fun angst.

Now looking back on Inhibit, there is actually an excruciating amount of evidence for the story kind of being a trans narrative ("oh god i can't control my own body oh god", "oh no people think my body should do this thing" etc). It's so interesting how creators have these themes that they continuously go back to in their work, even unintentionally, and mine is oops all trans. If I were to rewrite Inhibit from scratch now, I'd probably try to include more of that nuance and actually engage with those themes because I realise that they're there haha.

I hope all this answers your question? Kind of? A little? My ultimate conclusion is that I thought what I was doing was writing good trans characters, when ultimately I think I failed to write characters that are truly explicitly trans. On the other hand, maybe characters like David and Masha are the exact kind of trans rep that some people want and are looking for. Either way I'm actively working to write better trans characters in the future because trans people rule, and this was a really interesting question to reflect on, thank you!

STARTING WITH A BANGER OMG It's so fire I started bouncing when it got to the chorus it's so good and an awesome choice for an opening track we're off to an amazing start. Very punk-esque and the lyric video fits the same vibe.

If y'all thought LA FINE was reminiscent of TDV1, you're gonna LOVE this one. It sounds so much like it that I can't help but listen to it and be like "That's the Måneskin I know" because it's SO symbolic of their sound. The way I view it is that this song, just based on sound and vibes alone, is LA PAURA DEL BUIO's younger, more emo sibling and no I will not take criticism on that because I know I'm right. Also the lyric video is majestic and I'm right about that too.

MAMMAMIA: 10/10

Again, another one we've all heard and there's no debate it's incredible and I still come back to the MV and lyric video every now and again because they're just as iconic as the song itself.

SUPERMODEL: 8/10

This one has truly divided the fandom lmao but for me personally I like it and it's a song I listen to and then forget about for a bit and then I listen to it again and remember how much I love it. Idc it slaps and it's in my playlist for a reason.

THE LONELIEST: 10/10

Again, no question. The perfect song to cry to while simultaneously screaming the lyrics. The MV is a cinematic masterpiece and the song is so emotionally wracking in the perfect way. Damiano's lyrics are either fun and quirky, super fucking angsty, or poetically deep and meaningful there is no in between.

CONCLUSION: This album is a No-Skips album and probably one of the best albums I've ever heard and I will not be listening to anything else for the next month. Thank you and goodnight.

not my first book of the year but i finished it like 20 mins ago so. :) huge rant incoming!

first off i was entertained so that means its already pretty good. second i Loved the stuff in the beginning, talking about them doing research, experimenting, stuff like that. i guess i was in the mood for dark academia lol. i did wish there was more of that though, i wanted more of the research, more of the actual experimenting with basically killing themselves and being brought back to life shit cause that was epic. i fucking love it when crazy people especially crazy academics get so obsessed with their work it drives them even more insane. big fan. also,,,,,, ok not to be fucking gay but i kinda wish there was more stuff about their relationship in the beginning? like i didnt need them to make about but the whole aspect of trusting each other to both kill them and bring them back to life.....knowing someone so well you know that they'll do literally any crazy ass idea you come up with.... literally being remade by another person... I want to mention something I feel is important when it comes to the story im writing. 👀

In the story, Cardinal/Mutable/Fixed signs are not a thing nor mean anything to them or affect them. Same with planets and whatnot or even personalities to humans.

Through taking classes at Uni and talking to several Astronomists to understand their thoughts when I realized this was a good opportunity to learn more for the story so I would craft the core story better. That whole thing was almost immediately scrapped. Before this decision was actually having a lot of complications with the story because of the horoscope situation and how it affects humans or even what the point of it. If you want an example of what I mean: The zodiac is only those on the equator. Well, only Leo, Virgo, and Aquarius only would still be in the zodiac, and then there would be 22 members rather than 12. There are more reasons but yeah. 😄

What I do find extremely interesting is the history behind it, how it came to be, and what used to happen. Which is actually part of the story and there's way more to work off of creatively wise. I will go over it as it's not a super core story impactful to the story but will be mentioned in the story lightly. I'll go over it, the history, and how it fits into the story so if you don't want spoilers don't read beyond this point.

Mid-Spoilers ahead

In real life, "Astrology" is a human concept of trying to understand the stars, and the celestials back from Babylonians and then spreading to Egypt and Greece, which popularized it. In ancient Greece, it was taken very seriously and people would dedicate their lives to understanding the celestial bodies, hence Astronomers and Astrologer.

According to an article I heavily reference and site from"Greek philosophers and astronomers determined the orbital paths of the planets and their correlation with the stars around them, which was the most important discovery since astrologers could use this information to make more accurate predictions. Greek astrologers needed the ability to know when constellations and planets were going to be in the sky."

This is an interesting aspect because the way I see it and which I have written it is that: In ancient times these astronomers were actually oracles of Cirus rather than Apollo. These people were rare just like any other oracle, but heavily studied the skies and constantly watched it and were not called oracles they were called astrologers however most, but not all astrologers were also astronomers vic versa. They had the ability to know when constellations and planets were going to be in the sky which allowed them to see parts of one's life other times the slight future. Telling them fortunes or events to happen, these events can change depending on what one did. But, Just like in real life only the rich were apple to afford them.

They also have the ability to see past a celestial's disguise or even know when one is present. Ptolemy, was an Egyptian astrologer, astronomer, and mathematician, he was, in fact, the most famous of all of them. He expanded his knowledge and that is why the zodiac are known as he's personally and unfortunately met Scorpio.

However, sometime later the number of "true" astrologers slowly thinned to eventually die out. [major spoiler so I will not explain further, but it's not because of Scorpio lmao]
