not to be about opera again but to be about opera again. as an art form it has the reputation of being super stuffy and something for snobs who don't know how to have fun only but honestly this was one of, perhaps even THE main theatrical entertainment for centuries. i wish people knew how hard these things can go and how engaging they can be. like characters kill and die and fight wars and (almost) commit human sacrifice left and right. characters fall in love they mourn they're ecstatic they cry they're furious it's an extremely dramatic and emotional art form! and i understand that opera does not appear approachable bc of the general conventions of the art form but i promise old works can be fun and engaging if you go watch them with some preparation beforehand (reading the libretto helps) - not to mention not all operas are old bc there are so many modern operas which engage with topical events! also the music slaps.
Sometimes I wonder whether the cancellation wasn't positive in its own way.
We went out on a high, so there were chances that whatever came next might not match those expectations; we were left with quite a few unanswered questions, which can be inspiring both for those of us who write fic as well as those who try to read more deeply into the show; there are blanks that facilitate a fic writer's making use of them which might have been filled in less satisfying ways should canon have failed to live up to what we each wanted of it...
But I suppose it's easier to look at it like this from the point of view of someone who is invested in creating her own little versions and what-ifs concerning her favourite characters in the show. For someone who is just a reader or who just appreciates all the ways in which fan creativity manifests itself without much taking part in it, I guess there's a bit more dependence on canon.
As per your recent post, may I ask why the whole Magnus protocol thing pisses you off? No obligation to answer, just wondering.
Yo! Ummmm. Hmm. It's mostly from a personal perspective/my opinion/feelings on TMA?
I really did like how the story ended, I thought it wrapped up well, the thought that we didn't KNOW what happened in the aftermath or what happened to jmart & Co definitively, felt really fitting and a nice full circle close on the story as a whole. It ended where it should've and I was really satisfied with that. It had told its story and that was it. Part of TMA (the whole thing you could argue) is the fear of the Unknown so like. Idk it felt fitting.
Around the same time it was ending/s5 there was kind of a big boom in the Fandom, and there was a lot of new fans who binged the whole of 5 seasons in like. A week or two and then wanted, understandably, more?
I don't really have sources to back me up I'm just speaking from personal experience talking w people who I've recommended the show to post-finale and who listened to it post-finale, and this isn't to be gate keepy or try and bash newer fans like. It's a good show I'm glad that people are still discovering it. Etc etc etc whatever.
Its of my PERSONAL OPINION. that continuing the story that TMA told is a disservice to the story itself. I have a post here that I made back when it was announced that kinda explains a little bit better.
I don't mean to accuse anyone working in it or listening to it of like. Being a cashgrab or pandering to fans or anything like that, I'm just personally dissatisfied and a little disappointed about it.
Im just not excited, I'm sure it'll be good? Johnny Sims has a style of writing horror I'm a huge fan of, im sure everyone who worked on it worked hard and im sure they all did an incredible job and I'll probably. Listen to it someday? Im just. Dreading it. Idk. I'll probably ramble jn the tags a little more and be more incoherent but like. Eh. Not excited, seems stupid. Sorry.
TL;DR it's of my opinion that TMA didn't need a continuation, had a good ending for the story it was telling, and tmagp is a disservice to that story. Whatever.
The other three in the Summer Blubbin' set are drying bc the pinbacks came off with their rear protective sheets and I had to glue them back on. 😭 I'm pretty happy with their sizes overall! Bogos binted came out kind of large and the raygun came out kind of small by comparison though, so I'll probably see what I can do to fix them. And with the Blubby pins, I might lower the opacity of her blush, it printed kinda dark.
In addition to these I got a few extra designs for funsies. Some TMBG pins based off the Hotel Detective MV for my friends and I who are going to see them this year!! 🤩 One with that WTTH photo I did a redraw of, just for me. And two JFKs (Clone High) bc I thought they'd make funny collar pins hehe. I keep meaning to watch the new season but I want to watch the original again first... hard to find the time!!
A controversial thought just occurred to me that I've tried to put into words many times now about my hero (Janis Joplin) and other musicians and people who died "tragically" (especially in a "self-inflicted" way), and that is: every time I see someone online, on Youtube or Facebook or wherever, say something (always unprompted/unrelated to what the video/photo/article/etc. is about) along the lines of, "What a waste of their talent/skill their death was," I think, What a waste their death was? What have you said of their life? Why do you only choose to comment on, and apparently highlight, their death? Did their life, and their accomplishments, and what they brought to the world while they were alive mean nothing to you? Have you not a SHRED of gratitude that they were alive at all?
I am quite sure that there is some sort of psychological explanation (and I say that with the confidence of only having a basic understanding of psychology) for why people focus particularly on people's (in this case, celebrities') "tragic" deaths, but is it not a tragedy in itself to reduce those people's lives to their deaths and the fact that they're dead? Why not appreciate what they were able to share with us while they were here? You know?
No one talk to me I just came back from a family vacation to find out my favorite youtuber ever is leaving the platform.
I am devastated.
(I am actually happy for him, he has given me so much happiness for like 8 years. He deserves to let the channel go an enjoy his life. It just hurts, but I'll get over it
I'm so thankful for MatPat and Steph. I Hope every future endeavour or project they take on is successful and that over all they have a happy and fulfilling life with Ollie.💚❤️💛💙)
^^^ I got this video recommended after watching a couple on UTDR dramas and it is honestly extremely spot on? I am impressed to hear a really thoughtful analysis from the "other side" of the situation, that addresses problems on both sides; creators being more worried about being shunned from the community than about what they did and damage-controlling what is said about them, but also strangers psychoanalyzing a person they don't know who is already irrational from fear and pain in bad faith.
I am not sure if anyone here finds it handy since I am against the idea of "building up platform" for as long as I remember (I even had instances of purging my following to remain small artist), and I've made sure to cultivate the audience (all ten of my fans xd) with the same mindset who just want to quietly chill with the friendly faces in the corners 🤔 But I never know when one of those "platform and community" kids is looking in my general direction, so why not xD And yes, it is certainly helpful from the side of the observer, to not judge the creators the wrong way. The brain biology bit is hella correct, again, I am impressed by how well it is explained!

Where do I start? Let me say I agree with the general overview. I do think the two movies affected Harry in a different way. I do think he loved being part of MP because it really feels like a safe and comfortable environment for an exciting and important project. I do think he was intimately connected to the story and since I believe what I believe, I can’t not see his deep reflection on the character he plays in the movie. I do think the other movie was the ultimate bad choice for several reasons and I wouldn’t be surprised if all the people involved would feel this way too. It was poorly directed and they went for the lamest narrative in modern history ending up in a gross, embarrassing joke.
That being said… I know the main opinion in fandom right now is “Harry didn’t care about that movie”, which may be true, but also it’s his job and he’s a professional. I wonder in which extent he has the freedom to go there and say certain things without repercussions. Especially when he has been part of this mess for too long and whatever he says can compromise the entire thing. I know people say “they didn’t do a good job with the promo/marketing of that movie and stuff”, which may be true, but also I wouldn’t say it like that. They made decisions and planned strategies, that evolved in a final snowball at the press conference in Venice. The fact we were all expecting the crash says more to me than any interview ever could lol if that was so predictable why nobody prevented it? Unless… that’s what they wanted or at least, that’s what they could find useful somehow. I don’t know maybe I’m giving them too much credit hahah It was a 2 years long marketing campaign and as I said before, everything was set in perfect Hollywood style. All the buzz, gossip, stunt, scandals, drama, rumours of all sort around this movie (even spitgate if you want) were meant to put that movie under the spotlight. I don’t think Harry was unprepared for that movie, I think all the press was meant to go that way at some point. Since his arrival, Harry’s role was to be the diva from the carpet to the press conference. Nobody was expecting him to have clever thoughts on the movie or whatever. Even the press treated him like a diva with question about himself and the parallel career in music and fans (?). It was meant to be that way to me because they never tried to separate Harry styles the singer from Harry styles the actor. If that was your purpose, you wouldn’t use tickets for Harry’s tour to increase the presales for the movie. I despise WB, but if it’s true this was the movie they put all the efforts in… I genuinely can’t believe they would go with the flow like that during the conference on a super professional stage like Venice lmao Again, maybe it’s that I value work ethic too much and this was just simply bad, but the little question in the back of my mind stays… Nobody would go there and say the “movie is a movie” quote! I know it sounds like typical Harry, but Harry is smart. His job is literally to create masterpieces with WORDS. He better than anybody else knows the power of them. Look at the 180 turn My policeman!Harry took. It’s way too obvious. I’m not saying I 100% believe becoming a twitter meme was intentional, but I wouldn’t swipe this card off the table lol after all that’s what there’s left when your movie is nothing new and have no message but you just want to sell it using your actor fanbase. Cheap and lazy (like Harry’s team).
You, a happy little camper: I’m going to write books for a living!
The publishing world in our year 2022:
> “Oh you work with X big publishing company / book crate / merch company / illustrator? Didn’t you know they are problematic? If you don’t back out of your contract with them then it must mean you are also OK with that company’s practices & ethics, and therefore must be cancelled because you’re only concerned about your visibility and your money. You’re not a writer you’re just a dirty businessperson”
> /endless internal gossip about which author said what on her twitter, and who her friends are, and how bad her books are now that everyone’s agreed she’s a bad person, and you’ll be Tainted if you’re seen interacting with her books/platform
> /author friends bombarding you with the above even when you try to stay out of it out of legit disinterest: “BUT IF YOU DON’T CARE YOU’RE ALSO THE PROBLEM!”
> “This author is 100% lesbophobic because she’s written MM content but no FF, if you still read her books you’re a nazi, if you’re an author who promoted her you’re also a nazi, please DNF DNI unfollow. Everyone else come follow my viral cancelling train on Tiktok”
> “If there are errors in the book it must mean the author doesn’t care about their readers and only wants our money! It’s shameful that authors want money!!! CANCEL THEM”
You, realising the world is going to end in the next few decades anyway so let’s just stay positive, close social media, and focus on that little book of yours:
