I know that I post many protagonists tags for Persona series (mainly the 25th anniversary ones), but for those who didn't know I will explain the origins of their name and what names I refer to the most in this Tumblr. Sure, you can use the other names as well, and for different names than those mentioned below you can search on the internet if you want.

Persona 1 Protagonist: While he's mostly unnamed in official media, most fans refer him as 'Naoya Toudou' from the manga, which had more personalities than in other adaptations.

Persona 2 Protagonists: The two heroes, called 'Tatsuya Suou' and 'Maya Amano' are already canon at the beginning, so no need to add more. You can rename Tatsuya if you want to in his game, though.

Persona 3 Male Protagonist: There are two canon names that I usually add when posting/reblogging, which are 'Minato Arisato' from the manga and 'Makoto Yuki' from The Movie. But I usually use the movie name though because it was used for Dancing in Moonlight and Portable remaster (if you change the language of the game) too, just like his female counterpart below for the latter. Though I use Makoto often for anything about him, sometimes I'll refer him by his surname Yuki to prevent confusion to Persona 5 character with the same first name.

Persona 3 Female Protagonist: In general I don't use stage play name for the protagonists, but 'Kotone Shiomi' is the only official name she had (names like 'Minako Arisato' and 'Hamuko Arisato' are fanmade names), so sure, I'm including her name here. This was even used in Portable remaster too.

Persona 4 Protagonist: Same as P3 Hero, with manga 'Souji Seta' and anime 'Yu Narukami' as one of his famous names. Since the latter is used the most for spinoff games and Golden remaster, I'm gonna call him Yu too.

Persona 5 Protagonist: Same as the two male protagonists before him, with 'Akira Kurusu' for the manga and 'Ren Amamiya' for The Animation, Dancing in Starlight and Royal remaster. I usually refer him as Ren in most occasions.

I just completed Persona 4 Golden, and overall it was another incredible game in Atlus’ Persona franchise! While I still personally prefer Persona 5 Royal’s narrative & characters, and P4G did sadly have more problematic moments than P5R did (I’m looking at YOU Yosuke; geez do I HATE that pervy homophobic sack of garbage…), I still really loved this game’s unique themes about finding the truth, as well as self-discovery & acceptance. P4G is definitely a far more interpersonal game compared to P5R’s more grandiose plot & themes about societal reform, anti-escapism & personal freedom, but both games very solid in their own respective right!

In case you’re wondering, my favorite character in the game overall was Kanji Tatsumi since despite some outdated elements I felt that for a game originally released in 2008 Kanji’s character offered a lot of fascinating & nuanced discussions about overcoming feelings of toxic masculinity and internalized homophobia, as well as acceptance towards boys & men who have more feminine interests. I also really loved Chie Satonaka for her spunky & energetic tomboy demeanor (I ultimately chose her as the protagonist’s romantic partner), Naoto Shirogane was a compelling gender-nonconforming detective and an absolute powerhouse gameplay-wise (their bless & curse magic skills are OP), Nanako Dojima was such an adorable little sister figure to the main protagonist Yu, and Torhu Adachi made for such a truly detestable villain who’s satisfying to defeat!

Honestly the only character I only ended up actively disliking was Yosuke for being a pervy homophobic jackass. So it was very satisfying whenever the other characters beat up Yosuke for being a jerk!

The sight of Chie kicking Yosuke will never ever get old! Lol!

Overall though, I really enjoyed Persona 4 Golden and I definitely plan on playing Persona 3 Reload sometime as well in the near future!

I feel like rambling about my top 4 fav ships lol, I suppose they count as comfort ships haha (they do, they really do)

To start off, this ramble is a multifandom ramble, the ships are namelessshipping (pokemon), makoharu (persona 5), ninerose/tenrose (doctor who), and souyo (persona 4)

I wanna ramble about headcanons that most of my friends know for at least namelessshipping, and add to hcs for the other ships

Red x Blue Oak (namelessshipping) from pkmn, they get married early at age 19 lol, they're 24 currently in my hcs and run/own the Battle Tree in Alola, they DID go on a honeymoon in Alola, but that was a couple years before they decided to move there and start the Battle Tree (I changed up the timeline in the sumo/usum games a bit lol)- both of them are gay and transmasc (both using he/him), Red took Blue's last name, his old last name was 'Shade' lmao (I have SOOOOOOOOOO many hcs for them but I'll save those for other days) (I have more hcs for all of these ships tbh but like yeah, saving my typing for now, mostly) audghshsh okay fine some more, they love cuddling, Red usually shows affection through actions (he's selectively mute in my hcs) and Blue loves it- Red is actually just slightly more clingy than Blue, tho, even tho they tease each other and Blue acts snarky and Red quietly confident during the day, at home they're affectionate and love to cuddle at the end of the night in each other's armssssss AUGHHDHDHHSHSHSHSHSH sorry the idea of them cuddling has comforted me SOOOOO much, haha it's a bit funny but it really does, they're my top ship ever (tho I support other ***SAFE*** ships) and yeah, ahdghdhdhs

Makoto Niijima x Haru Okumura (MakoHaru) from persona 5/persona 5 royal- Makoto is transfem (using she/her), and is bi and demisexual, Haru is a demigirl (using she/they), and a lesbian- they get together after the events of specifically third semester in p5 royal happen, Haru asks Makoto out on a date lol, Makoto is shocked cause she was growing feelings for Haru and was worried she wouldn't give her a chance, but yeah, they start dating- they combine their last names methinks, also Sae approves of Haru right away LMAO, since Makoto (when home for university holidays) brings Haru over all the time

The 9th/10th doctor x Rose Tyler (ninerose/tenrose) from modern doctor who- ohhhhhdggdhs my god, they make me soooo happy, yes I know it's a bit cliche to like the first (modern) companion from Dr who with the doc but like??? Their story is soooo tragic- and we don't leave out the ninth doc in this place, he is so silly and funny and it's great to see his development as Rose shows him how to be a bit happier again, and then regenerating into a younger looking person for her- yes I don't mind other doctor ships I just have a huge soft spot for Rose w the doc- I like to think the Doc (any regeneration) uses no labels lol, he uses any pronouns "what ya think, today!" and Rose is soooo pansexual (cis and uses she/her, btw)- I also give the Doc (any regen) different looking eyes and teeth (fangs hehehe) to make her look diff from humans a lil bit, secretly

And lastly, Yu Narukami x Yosuke Hanamura (SouYo) from persona 4/persona 4 golden- just finished p4 golden like last week and I immediately got attached/hyperfixated (I have adhd lol) on these two- most recent comfort ship of mine for sure, even tho I enjoy other ships ofc! I just tend to get favourites from games/shows/etc. Anyways Yu is transmasc (he/him), and Yosuke is cis (he/him), both are gay lol- Yosuke definitely must have some typa internalized homophobia- that or I think he projected his worried feelings onto Kanji (don't worry, he very much apologizes to Kanji eventually)- idk how Yu and Yosuke got together yet tbh, maybe after the golden and arena ultimax (I just started playing it) events? I also hc that uh, Yu's parents passed away somehow (idk how yet for sure) and he moved back to Inaba for senior year permanently, and like yeah, sometime within there is when him and Yosuke get together- either I wanna make it sweet or angsty before they get together lol, dunno yet but yeah, gay ppl

ayway !!!!!!!!!!! peesona. personer. purse owner. im out of funny things to call it. jrpg franchise ! very silly (not) ! so ! the modern persona franchise (3, 4, 5 and all their variants and spin-offs) are ! JRPGs that are a hybrid between dungeon-crawling and social sim! the first three games (persona 1, and the persona 2 duology) are isometric, and focus a lot more on combat and dungeons rather than the social element.

so !!!!! p1 + 2 duology i have not really played (i own them all and have played part of p1) but they are ! very different. kei nanjo is in them. hes my favorite rich boy after byakuya from danganronpa

so !!!! 3 !!!!!! modern series !!!!!! brings it into 3d from its pixel-y isometric look !!!!!!!! 3 is old and clunky but regarded as one of the best stories in the franchise. and it's getting a remake (p3 reload) that i NEEEEEEEEEED. so. 3 focuses on your protag (you can name all the protags - i always use their manga names, so mine is Minato Arisato !) and his life for about a year :3 the game is a lot about death and grief and mourning and how to move on and make peace with those you've lost while still honoring them and carrying their memories (to me! the stories are definitely up to interpretation :3) and its ! a very emotional story. i love persona 3

p4 ! u got Yu Narukami. the Chad of the persona series for some reason idk. minmin's the edgy bitch, yu's the chad, idk what akira is tbh. anyway ! focuses on Yu's life during a year where he goes and stays with his uncle and niece (cousin? i don't remember how that works) and his adventures with the friends he makes there! they go inside a TV. P4 is a lot more lighthearted but definitely has it's darker, more morose and somber moments!!!!! this ones more abt facing the truth and accepting it even if it's hard to hear ! (again, to me :3)

p5 ! everyone knows peesona 5 royale on the penis 4. if you don't ur lying to urself /j but !! anyway. u got Joker (Akira Kurusu) and his gang of Phantom Thieves. and their talking cat. newest (mainline) persona game ! very stylized and flashy and beautiful. yusuke is why im gay now /j beloved to me :) second favorite of the persona titles ! also it has goro akechi my beloved.

so ! every story after the original isometric games isn't directly connected, however in 3 you find reference to characters in 2, 4 there are references to the characters in 3, 5 has references to 3 and 4 i think? but !! they're all in one timeline (presumably) but the stories are separate :) P3 is set in 2009, P4 in 2011, and P5 in 2016! (p5 doesn't actually tell you the year, but the calendar perfectly matches the 2016 calendar, soo)

I'm mostly a fanfic writer, but I want to get more into roleplays, and this is the first time I've thought about looking for roleplay partners on Tumblr. I do both OC and fandom roleplays. For fandom roleplays, I do both double up canon/OC roleplays and canon/canon roleplays. Hey quick question cuz I'm thinking about it now and I'm curious.

I think I remember seeing that you had the Persona series in your universe (I might be misremembering, that happens a lot) What do you think of it? It's a game in my world and I had fun with it! At least until my copy of the game Persona 5 Royal got screwed with making the characters look like people I know (Pretty sure a Giratina from my universe did it)

it's pretty cool - i dunno if the phantom thieves approved of their likenesses being used, but SEES and the investigation team did i think? i wouldn't be surprised if the games were made here and then exported to other universes, given. they're already swiping stories from other universes, might as well make more money.

we also got theoretical spinoffs that i don't know if they actually happened... which are the only ones i've played, ironically. Q and Q2, the q is for quantum maybe? but they are great as all heck.

i don't know much about games prior to 3 since they're before my time both in the actual events and the games made of it, except i think i heard something about events depicted in 2 in history class??? i don't remember i failed history lol

we do Not claim it's in the house like carpet. that is nothing to do with us that does Not exist here. well not until loki downloaded it and is using it as background music for his tournament fights anyway i know that different universes' Ren and Yu and Naoto are on here - i hope it didn't come from any of yours either lol

Random Thoughts on Persona 5 Royal - Part 1

[Progress: May 2nd, 1st Palace conquered]

First, I want to explain my history with Persona 5. I tried playing the vanilla version the summer of 2019 on a PS3 emulator. It was mildly enjoyable, but the emulator had issues (lag spikes, graphical glitches, etc.). I didn't even make it halfway through the first Palace. So, I shelved it... until Persona 5 Royal got ported to Nintendo Switch in 2022. I bought it as soon as possible, but I was busy with other long-form RPGs, and I kept putting it off later and later. I played through Bravely Default II, Pokémon Violet, Final Fantasy VII, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and more. Now, that all changes.

I would also like to confess that I have been exposed to a few endgame spoilers in the last few years. Luckily, not too much, and I don't know jack shit about Royal's exclusive content (other than the important Confidants).

I've seen the opening to the vanilla game, but not Royal. It's pretty cool, though I do kind of miss Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There.

EVERYTHING IS RED.

I like how the game starts off with a media literacy check. "If you don't understand that this is fictional, then you're not allowed to play."

Flash-forward sequences, huh? That's a first for the series.

It's a bit jarring to go from PS2-era models to this.

Persona 4 Golden was a bit easy for my tastes, so I'll be playing on Hard mode, at least for bosses.

I'm liking Ryuji so far. Then again, I guess that was kind of expected, since he fills a similar "best bro" role to Yosuke and Junpei.

I want Ann's hoodie. I would wear that hoodie.

As I found out, Morgana has the same English VA as Edea from Bravely Default, so I can't help but hear Edea when Morgana speaks.

I do feel a bit of kinship with the small town of Inaba from Persona 4, but I've always been a sucker for that big city aesthetic.

Speaking of aesthetic, this game has been praised up and down for it, and it's easy to see why. Is there a name for this kind of style?

I like the chatter that you hear while walking around. It helps breathe some life into the overworld.

The controller vibrating when receiving messages is a really nice touch.

I don't remember buying any DLC... but I won't say no to extra stuff.

The gameplay is so much more fun than in the last two games. Palaces are super fun to sneak around in, and combat offers some new toys to play with (guns, Baton Passes, Hold Ups, new damage types, Technicals, etc.)

GUNS REFILL AFTER EVERY BATTLE. I don't remember much from my first try with the vanilla game, but I do remember being frustrated with how quickly you run out of ammo. This is such a nice change.

I'm gonna say it: Take Over > Last Surprise. Both slap though, as does the rest of the OST (as expected from a Persona game).

The contrast between Persona 4's introduction and Persona 5's is kind of hilarious? Like, Dojima is all friendly with Yu, and the Yasogami students talk about his good looks. Sojiro threatens to toss out Ren multiple times, and the Shujin students keep talking shit.

In this series, we've had themes of death, truth, and now rebellion. This game makes me want to buy a leather jacket and shove a boot up someone's ass.

Ann was the MVP in that boss fight. I would've been in a tight spot if not for her Tarunda.

Goddamn, the ending to the first arc was SO satisfying, and even a little bit therapeutic. In grade school, I've had some bad blood with awful teachers (granted, nowhere near as awful as Kamoshida, but still awful). Little me could've only dreamed of stealing hearts.

Mementos is coming soon, right? It's basically this game's equivalent to Persona 3's Tartarus.
