I'm really curious: What are some particularly odd variants, or species, of the Oddish family, that you know of?

Oddish are incredibly widespread across the globe, so there’s a ton of variations to choose from. By far the most common is the so-called “standard Oddish”, found across much of Europe and the Middle East; these were the first Oddish to be trained by humans, but they are not the only ones!

One of the most interesting variants is the Yugra Oddish, native to the lands of western Siberia. The cold climate of this region makes it difficult for most grass-types to survive, but these Oddish have replaced their grass-typing with an ice-typing. They spend most of the year underground, only emerging for about three months in the summer. They make popular partners for the indigenous Khanty and Mansi, who have historically used Vileplume to aid in hunting and fishing. 

Further to the south, I’ve talked a bit about Malaysian Oddish and its family before, but their incredible stench is worth talking about again. Found primarily on the island of Borneo, where it is the state Pokemon of Malaysia’s Sabah, this Pokemon has long fascinated poison-type specialists. After exchanging their grass-typing for a ghost-typing, Malaysian Oddish have a scent so powerful it can knock out a full-grown human being in seconds. They are quite rare, and only give off their smell when they feel threatened, but it provides an excellent defense against predators. 

Most Oddish variants have a tendency to lose the ability to evolve into Bellossom. The reason for this is unknown, but it’s believed that Vileplume is more capable of adapting to extreme conditions, while Bellossom prefers temperate and sunny climates. Oddly, the only Oddish variant that cannot evolve into Vileplume is found in Polynesia, where the Pacific Oddish only evolves into Bellossom. It is found primarily on Hawaii and nearby archipelagoes, though it has been threatened by the introduction of standard Oddish from the American mainland.
