How many of the BG3 companions do you think would know sign language? I've so far reasoned that Shadowheart (makes sense for Sharran clerics), Astarion (for him and the other spawn to communicate without Cazador knowing), Laezel (githyanki are apparently taught a lot about Faerun, would make sense for them to be taught most languages) and Gale (is a nerd). There are variations of sign language in Faerun (perhaps Minthara would know Drow sign language).
i think wyll would know because of his superior education too!!! plus he’s a nice guy i think he would wanna learn in general. and he can teach karlach 😌

I can't believe all jades are designated moms at birth
Such Is The Nature Of Troll Society.
On that note I love that Lanque exists because it means jadebloods have Exactly One Dad. A cavern family can be a mom and a mom and a mom and a mom and a mom and a mom and a mom and 1 dad.

I once remember reading a theory that horses are linked with Void (Equius and his weird musclebeast obsession, Mom Lalonde giving Rose Maplehoof which confounded her, etc). What do you think of that theory?
i think the point at which i feel confident i’ve cracked the riddle behind the god damn horses i will finally feel a shallow imitation of true peaceThat said I already link Void to physical strength/the world of the physical in general and horses are pretty much all about being STRONG in homestucks lore, so I’m inclined to agree.

Do ancestors/dancestors have to be the same gender as their dancestors/ancestors (respectively)?
As far as canon shows, yes. - N

Would it be weird for a seadweller to have a lusus that isn't aquatic? Her associated element is air rather than water and I can't think of any animals that live in water partially but spend most of their time in the air.
Yes, it probably would be. She could just have a lusus that doesn't spend ALL of it's time in the water.

I think I might have submitted this troll a really long time ago, so this is a re-do I suppose.
Alternia or Beforus or some type of AU?
Alternia
Name (preferably include how you came up with it and why): Hemati Aurata or Hemati Grotei
‘Hemati’ comes from hematite, the reddish-blackish main ore of iron that’s known for having a rusty red streak. This is in reference to both his blood color (rust) as well as his interesting in blacksmithing and sculpting out of iron.
‘Aurata’ is the species name of a moth of the genus Pyrausta. ‘Grotei’ is another species, I wasn’t sure which one would fit better. Slightly based off how moths are famously attracted to flames. Hemati’s lusus is a Pyrausta, which is a Greek mythical dragon that is basically a small winged insect with the head of a dragon. They die if they are taken away from fire and tie in with Hemati’s associated element of fire.
This is a really clever and suiting name! I prefer Aurata, I think, for the wing coloration of the Aurata Moth. Hemati Aurata.
Age: 8 sweeps (~17 years old)
I’m unsure exactly how old a troll is before they’re taken off-planet, but I’m assuming it’s close to human adult age (18 years). I wanted him to be slightly younger than mature age but older than the canon trolls.
We don’t know for sure, but I definitely subscribe to the headcanon that it’s around 18 or more.
Strife Specibus: pickaxekind or hammerkind
He can probably have both, since there’s a functional reason for them!
Fetch Modus: Minecraft modus? I’m unsure what sort of name to give it but it would be funny for him to have his modus match the Minecraft inventory. Maybe he could be able to “craft” things like you can in Minecraft’s inventory, bypassing the need for alchemy at the price of a limited grid to work with as well as a lot of wasted items, as the craft grid isn’t very efficient.\
Maybe Furnace Modus? Leaving items in allows them to ‘smelt’ into a more refined or better form, but doesn’t allow Direct alchemization within the menu. But you have to keep the items in until they’re finished being refined, which can take a really long time depending on the item.
Blood color: Burgundy/Rust
Symbol and meaning: Argo, the Zenith
Self explanatory. Hemati lives in a mountain/inactive volcano and his emotion often have to reach a peak before they explode out of control.
Trolltag: fabrileEbullition
This is kind of a joke about how he does his art. He is a skilled craftsman but gets angry easily and goes through fits of rage and frustration that aggravates his pyrokinesis. This often results in his metal sculptures melting through the sudden spurts of flame. Although he would personally consider the “ebullition” part to be ‘bursts of emotion’ that inspire his art, it’s more suited to his ill-temper. The name also abbreviates to FE, which is the symbol for the chemical element of iron.
Do you mean ferbrile? Or was fabrile a portmanteau of fabrication and ferbrile? Either way I like it a lot!
Quirk: He usually speaks in a grumble in Order tO suppress His Feelings, but uses prOper punctuatiOn in Order tO remain pOlite but prOperly capitalizes tHe names Of OtHers. He capitalizes tHe f in ‘Fe’, all O’s and all H’s as tHey are used in tHe cHemical cOmpOund Of rust, wHicH empHasizes His blOOd cOlOr. !!TYPES IN ALL CAPS AND IGNoRES PUNCTUATIoN WhEN EMoTIoNAL To RANT!! !!DRoPS ThE PoLITE BULLShIT!! !!No LoNGER fEARS RUDENESS AND TRIES To DoWNPLAY hIS SPoT oN ThE hEMoSPECTRUM!!
Normal speaking = all lowercase except Fe, O, H and names capitalized, proper punctuation
Emotional speaking = !! at start and end of sentences, all caps, no other punctuation, lowercases Fe, O and H
Good, clever, and effective.
Special Abilities (if any): Aside from general telekinetics (which he isn’t great at), Hemati possesses strong pyrokinetic powers. He is not totally in touch with his powers and they tend to flare out of control depending on his emotional state. He is NOT immune to fire but can manipulate fire to avoid coming into contact with him, having something akin to a closeknit barrier separating his skin from the flames. This is done instinctively, so it allows him to not be as careful when he’s smithing, although he still wears gloves as he can’t protect himself from the heat of objects he touches.
I like that a lot. A Literal Hothead.
Lusus: A tiny Pyrausta who is constantly on fire (as described above). He is quite fond of his lusus although he is unable actually touch it. It feeds off metal so Hemati reserves some scraps for it to munch on although it sometimes indulges in his art. Hemati can hardly stay mad at the little bugger so it gets away with it. It acts kind of like a cat and spends its time napping or being a cute annoyance. It 'helps’ Hemati out by breathing fire every now and then, which is why half the things in his hive are scorched. It also can serve as a lantern when he goes mining or a portable furnace for smelting, if it doesn’t eat the metal first.
Cute… It’s especially great because of the fact that there’s a moth genus named after the Pyrausta. Does it have moth eyes, too? I love the idea of this creature… cute and helpful but mildly inconvenient.
Personality: Hot-headed but tries his best. Hemati is quick to anger but honestly is quick to get lost in any emotion and can get carried away. He’s an intense fellow and might be hard for most people to handle. His greatest passion is art and fashion, and takes great pleasure in making all sorts of gear, clothing and accessories, as well as his strange sculptures. His art isn’t exactly pretty and look like someone threw some metal bits together and then went a little crazy with a blowtorch. Despite this, he is immensely proud of his creations and doesn’t take criticism well. Maybe YOU don’t get it. His enthusiasm can be very infectious and he gets others excited easily. He might railroad them during a conversation, but is quick to talk up someone who is being overly modest. He’s also quick to point out flaws or call out bullshit, although he often has to keep this to himself to avoid being culled.
He is a lowblood and such luxuries are not permitted for him, he often gives what he makes to his friends and keeps his hive relatively sparse, surrounding himself with the unfinished scrap. He dresses pretty modestly. His giving nature is ultimately selfish because he can’t indulge in his own creations and wants someone to appreciate them. Despite his interests, he tries to adhere to the hemospectrum the best he can. He knows that what he loves is wrong and that he will eventually be forced into a life of servitude, so he is often burdened by pessimism, frustration and self deprecation. He tries to keep his hive neat but due to his outbursts it frequently flip flops between extremely organized and terribly messy.
He was extremely close with his former moirail, a very patient but stressed out oliveblood, but he began developing flushed feelings for them which were not reciprocated. He fell HARD for them, so although their moirallegiance was highly beneficial to them both, he would rather have them be matesprits. So he broke things off with them. His tantrums were more manageable in the past with their help but he has gotten more out of control now that they split, although they do sometimes regress into pale flirting with one another. He tends to be clingy in his relationships and doesn’t really get the idea of “personal space” but cares very deeply for who he falls for. Hemati is just very selfish but also very devoted, but can easily become jealous. He is especially not fond of his ex-moirail’s red crush, a quiet ceruleanblood. He forcibly pulled them into the ashen quadrant, with his ex-moirail moderating, to keep them from staying flushed. He’s a jerk like that.
Honestly I love this level of character development. He has a lot of neat traits, and has lots of interesting character flaws that make him a very fascinating character. Someone who is liable to explode and who does not consider others as much as he should… I love his creativity and his uniqueness, too. I don’t really have anything to add here!
Interests: Smithing, mining, smelting, salvaging, sculpting, art, fashion
His hive is located within a mountain (an inactive volcano), so he often goes mining for ore veins to fuel his craft or might dig around the suburbs for scrap metal for his artistic endeavors. He provides jewelry and outfits for his black crush, a pushy violetblood, but also made himself and his ex-moirail matching bracelets. He still wears his bracelet although his moirail stopped wearing theirs.
Ooh. So is he actually interested in fashion or is he interested in jewelry-making, because you mention that he dresses pretty simply… Is it that he’d LIKE to dress fancy but doesn’t have access to the resources he needs? Or is it that he’s interested in the creation of accessories but doesn’t care much for wearing them himself?
Title: Prince (?) of Space
I’ve struggled to figure out exactly what class Hemati fits the most, but I definitely want him to be a Space player. I considered Knight as he quite literally protects himself with space, like through his psychic barrier against fire. He also forges weapons and armor that can be used for self defense. Page was also a possibility as he has growing potential to utilize his psychic powers effectively and is currently unskilled with them. Prince is also a possibility as he creates through his destructive outbursts and has the Princely struggles of self loathing and self absorption.
Firstly, I think Space is a beautiful assignment for him because of how well it contrasts his character and how much it can teach him. Space is a lot of patience- we see this with Jade’s need to be patient on the meteor and all the waiting she’s forced to do, and Kanaya’s need for patience with the breeding of the frog, and Calliope’s need for patience in executing her plan. So it would be an aspect that would require him to work on himself and learn to appreciate the journey and not the goal, and would teach him to simmer down and pick his fights, and would require him to learn to rebuild beautiful things instead of making a mess of them out of stubbornness…
If I were to pick a title, I might actually… pick Maid of Space? If you don’t mind breaking a canon rule. Because of his need to actively create this space for himself, to encourage this kind of movement of growth, as well as the literal creation of space he makes for himself… The inverse is Bard of Time, which would require the passive destruction of time and through time, implying his destructive nature that he needs to keep in check.
You could probably also do Heir of Space? To imply a need for him to be capable of flexibility and change and to passively create a change in this for everyone. Inverse is Mage of Time, so he’d have to understand his own future and desire to fight…
Land: Land of Scrap and Frogs (LoSaF)
Hemati likes to reinvent by taking discarded bits of metal (scrap) and turning it into something new. I imagine that it would be a planet covered in heaps of scrap metal, piled as high as the eye can see. It would likely be hard to traverse due to all the sharp and pointy bits. Stoking the Forge would melt the metal so that it can be reshaped into a more usable form.
Maybe Land of Debris and Frogs (LoDaF). It could still be scrapcovered, but I think putting scrap Right in the name might be a little too obvious. It could also imply some kind of destruction, like as though the planet’s endured ruin before and needs to be rebuilt, playing into his space theme. He could need to utilize the scrapped metal to build a Frog Pen where he can raise healthy baby frogs.
Dream Planet: Prospit
Dreamers are a little hard for me to understand. Hemati tries to stay true to the status quo but harbors desires that don’t exactly fit the mold. However, he doesn’t really fight for what he believes in and mostly tries to enjoy himself while he can. He tends to trust people at face value and although he tries to suppress his own feelings, he isn’t very good at it. Nor is he good at hiding his intentions.
I think this is VERY fitting for prospit, almost a picture-perfect prospit dreamer, really. Good pick!
I wish I had either art skills or spriting skills to make Hemati but I trust you guys to do him justice. I hope I was able to flesh out what kind of person he is!
You fleshed him out wonderfully! And I will try to do him justice. Here we go!:
Tumblr media
Horns: I made them reflect his symbol. I also put the friendship bracelet on there. I know that we don’t see rusts wear anything on their horns and that horn accessories are exceedingly common, but I figure it’s such an important element to his character that it should be featured somewhere prominent and that will always be on screen. I also feel like it wouldn’t wear it on his hands- there’s too much of a risk for it to get melted or distorted by the furnace. So horn it is.
Hair: I made it look like a really messy fire! Fun times.
Eyes: Angry spikey eyebrows and some grumpy eyes, loosely based off Karkat’s.
Mouth: Very frowny, with nubby rustblood teeth.
Outfit: Really simple dark apron with his symbol on it and some steel-toed boots. The boot base was taken from fan-troll.
Thank you for sharing him!

AU Chinese Zodiac session
Name:Niu,chinese for buffalo
Traditionally this Chinese zodiac space is occupied by the Ox, but the Vietnamese version of the zodiac uses the water buffalo, so I’ll accept this change to the buffalo. We’ll need to pick a better name, though.
Bubali is a better pick for the first name, it’s a reference to Bubalus bubalis, the Asian Water Buffalo. Bellis for the last name, as a reference to Teressa Bellissimo, the inventor of buffalo wings.
Age:6 sweeps
Strife Specibus:pan kind
You could use an oilkind instead and have him sort of fling the oil on people, portcullis style (even if that wasn’t actually all that common, it’s fitting for him!)
Fetch Modus:fry modus,he must fry the item and wait until its done,if the item stays for too long it may be destroyed, same if it stays for too short
I want to trrry to give this character more depth. He’s pretty just One-Note Buffalo Wings when there’s a lot else you can do with such a character! The oxen zodiac is associated with hard work, Backbreaking work in fact. You could give him a Beast Of Burden modus where he has to drag something heavy a certain distance in order to unpack his item?
Blood color:bronze fried “wings”!!
Symbol and meaning:chinese for buffalo
As with the other one, I’ll be switchin this up, but I’ll try to incorporate elements!
Trolltag:hmm
How about cayennePurveyor? Cayenne’s a common seasoning on buffalo wings and a purveyor is a seller of a particular good!
Quirk:}{e writes wi}{ wings
Special Abilities:he can understand the animals, thats why he doesn’t make wings and instead he makes “wings”,its unknown where does them come from
Th… that’s ominous. Is he… is he killing trolls and selling them as food.
Lusus: something like tinkerbull, but instead theres an wild chicken winged buffalo
I think a good and fun idea would be using a Sky Bison instead. It could still fly, but without Physical Wings.
Tumblr media
EDIT:  zeysir said: This is kind of a funny suggestion, but his lusus could be like a water buffalo version of the bullfinch monster from Dragon Quest since it looks like a plucked chicken that’s also a bull
This suggestion was so good that I had to add it in!
Tumblr media
Love this weird fellow.
Personality:hmm im not so sure,he must be pretty charismatic to get all his “wings” sold
I like the idea of him being charismatic. I think I want him to… maybe be someone who built a sort of business from the ground up. Buffalo, NY is known as a great ski resort. So he could be something a restaurateur and a resort-keeper, a humble little cabin aesthetic that he built and maintained and made famous himself with his Delicious Food and Hospitality. But he’s hardheaded and a sly-talker and he’s very friendly and warm seeming, but he also… has a bit of a temper and a bit of a hatred for the entitled highbloods who come to stay at his resort, and… sometimes they just…. kind of vanish. But it’s fine. He can blame the mountain.
Interests:animals and “wings” fried with oil from plants
I think I’ll also add Skiing/snowboarding, Hospitality, Hotel Services, and Self-Sufficiency.
Title: ???? of hope
I think it might make most sense for him to be a blood player. The ox is tied to the land and is also associated with the earth side of the chinese zodiac. Blood players are natural leaders and have that sort of draw and charisma that this character displays. He just has to learn to like… actually value his bonds instead of exploiting them if he wants to become a more acceptable person. So I’ll say… Mage of Blood, maybe? The active understander of blood bonds, responsibility, etc.
Land:land of lack and soil,a land where everyone is poor and hungry, but the dirt is good for farms
I do kind of like this premise, but you can’t just say the consorts are starving while there’s good soil without explaining it. So here’s my idea… There used to be an underclass of farmers who were all wiped out, and now the rich elite are starving because those entitled brats don’t know the first thing about farming. In order to accomplish his quest, he’ll have to teach the bastard consorts how to farm like reasonable people. You could call it the Land of Fallow and Opulence.
Dream Planet:prospit
Design:
Tumblr media
Horns/hair: I added more waterbuffalo-y horns just to give him more of that aesthetic. For the hair, I changed it to black but otherwise kept it the same. Brownbloods are too low to have access to hairdye the way mid/higher bloods do.
Face/top: I gave him some teeth, because brownbloods are a pretty toothy bunch, but I kept them relatively subdued so he wouldn’t look intimidating. I gave him a winter jacket and a frying apron- the winter jacket because of the ski lodge backstory And the fact that the ox zodiac is associated with winter.
Bottoms; I gave him big puffy pants meant to be remniscent of snowpants and some snow boots.
Symbol: I added the integral brownblood circle, but kept the line coming down and the split lines coming off the side!
I hope my feedback helped!

I know Kanaya was said to be a special case since she was chosen by a virgin mothergrub, so does that mean vast majority of jades just live in the brooding caves? If so, would they probably have the mothergrub as their lusus?
From what we’ve seen from hiveswap/friendsim so far, it definitely seems like the jadebloods all live in the brooding caverns. I think they implicitly don’t have lusii, since lusii would be a risk to the grubs to have around? And they’re said to tend to the mothergrub, so I doubt she technically qualifies as a lusus.
I think more realistically, the slightly older jades in the cavern act the most as the lusii to the jade trolls they’re bringing up. Exactly how responsible those jades are will vary from troll to troll and from cavern to cavern, of course. You could end up with a troll like Bronya who cares a lot about protecting little trolls, or you could end up in... drone-based squashing hell with a very volatile caretaker.
It’s of note that it seems like younger trolls are in fact tending the brooding caverns? Which means adult jades probably get sent off planet, too.
So growing up in the brooding cavern is like if your 16 year old babysitter was actually your mom. Being raised by someone who’s only like 3 years older than you. Good times.

Do you think it would be reasonable for a non-purple blood to be interested in the subjugglator/clown cult? I'm assuming it would have to be slightly higher on the spectrum (teal and up maybe?)
I definitely think it’s reasonable! People are often interested in cultures that are deemed High Society and there are lots of different motivations for a lower caste to want to be a part of it, from protection to status to Actual Interest In The Culture. Whether or not someone of a non-purple blood would be Accepted into the clown cult or would have to jump through various hopes or even disguise themself is another matter that’d be up to your interpretive decisions!

The Grand Finale! Mayrah Mobula
I gotta say I love that this character is a breath player who has to keep her head above water, a seadweller who can only breathe air.
Alternia or Beforus or some type of AU?
Alternia
Name (preferably include how you came up with it and why): Mayrah Mobula
‘Mayrah’ is an Australian Aboriginal name that means “the wind” or “spring,” which fits with her associated element of wind.
‘Mobula’ comes from “Mobula mobular” aka the devil fish or giant devil ray, which is Mayrah’s lusus. They get their name from how their gill covers/fins point downward when they’re not feeding, making them look like devil horns.
Ooh, I get it, because rays are known for leaping out of water. Pffff
Age: 8 sweeps (~17 years old)
Strife Specibus: 2xfankind, fankind, hairdryrkind
Mayrah’s weapons of choice are tessen, bladed war fans that can also be closed and thrown as dagger or used to deflect projectiles. If she needs a less delicate approach, she switches to her gunbai, a giant solid metal fan that can be used to create massive gusts of wind or swung around like a club. She will use hairdryers to fuck with her enemies by blowing her hair nonchalantly or just blowing it in their face. She will sometimes yawn and fan herself with her tessen to taunt her foes.
You could probably just say fankind and 2xfankind, because a hair dryer is also called/is composed of a hair fan!
Fetch Modus: I’m not sure where to go with this one. Any ideas?
How about a Wind Tube? You know like, those Cash Cubes where someone has to stand in a glass box and air blows around wildly while you attempt to catch the cash you want? Want if she is forced to stand in a wind tube trying to grab the specific item(s) she needs?
Blood color: Violet
Symbol and meaning: Aquius, The Whimsical
Tumblr media
I definitely agree, but we’ll analyze that fun stuff more later.
Trolltag: mercurialMadonna
“Mercurial” means “fickle or unpredictable” and can be attributed to Mercury/Hermes, Roman/Greek god of messengers, travelers and tricksters. He was famously known for his quick wit.
“Madonna” can mean an idealized or beautiful woman. Mayrah is pretty self-absorbed!
Hmmmmm. When you hear Madonna you usually think of either the entertainer or the Virgin Mary, though. And while I think it’s a fun reference, she really doesn’t carry the vibes of either. I hate to break up the alliteration, but maybe mercurialWindbag (mW)? Since Windbag means boaster or blowhard and is a fun additional wind reference? With the added benefit of the bag of wind being like… a spongebob reference. Tenuous connections to the sea.
Quirk: {~ ur always worryinn bout everyfinn mmann juST HAVE SUMM FUNN!!!!!! XD
Starts sentences with {~ to represent a devil ray. Makes fish puns. Doubles m’s and n’s. Uses a lot of abbreviations and slang because she talks quickly and doesn’t want to bother writing stuff out. Doesn’t use punctuation of any kind except exclamation points, which she will use liberally. Will gradually switch to all caps for emphasis or when excited but doesn’t capitalize anything else. Uses smilies and variations of XD or :D
I love the devil rays emojis… The m’s and n’s I don’t really understand, though. ….Hm. What if she replaced k’s with |< instead. It looks like the symbol from the side!
Ex: {~ don’t get so wor|<ed up!
Special Abilities (if any): I guess this is technically the opposite of a special ability, but Mayrah actually has defective gills. She is unable to breathe water at all. Her fins look normal but essentially serve no function. But, she is extremely good at holding her breath and can stay underwater for about 30 minutes before having to resurface. Otherwise, she’s a pretty okay swimmer but actually doesn’t like water all that much. She can, however, run extremely fast and jump way higher than what one expects.
Highbloods are pretty strong and this is another subtle ray reference, the jumping thing, so I accept.
Lusus: A giant devil ray. Aside from being really fucking big (like the size of a small airplane), there’s nothing particularly special about her. She’s just a gentle giant, although her shadow strikes terror into land-dwellers. However, she spends most of her time roaming the skies. Mayrah doesn’t mind as raymom always comes back, in the rare occasion that she isn’t tagging along. She will use her lusus as a mount to patrol the skies of Alternia while posing dramatically (think Kamina from Gurren Lagann).
I l o v e this giant enormous fucking terrifying ray. Beautiful.
Personality: Impatient, easily distracted and often gets carried away, Mayrah is the girl Hemati affectionately (hatefully?) refers to as “tHat fligHty brOad.” She’s the kind of person who will grab your hand and drag you across the world if she think it’ll be fun. She’s particularly longwinded and will happily talk over you if you try to interject because SHE has something to say. She loves to try to motivate her friends and pushes them to do their best at whatever it is they’re doing, whether that means bullying Hemati into making her clothes and jewelry, helping Varune hide his misdeeds or buying Lelaps a fuck ton of instruments and dumping it all into their hive. Mostly, she comes off as annoying and overbearing. In truth, she’s not really sure what to do with herself, so she occupies her time by bothering her friends and delving into their interests as a substitute for her own without realizing her effect on pushing them around. Woe is those who tell her she’s interested in something or something without being ready to actually do something about it. If you told her you’ve always wanted to try rock climbing, she’d likely push you off the top of a mountain! She is pretty generous, however, and will typically buy people whatever on a whim.
I like this a lot, especially because it emphasizes how ungrounded she is. She’s such a flighty person, that she doesn’t even have a stake planted in anything of her own. She’s self-centered and driven to do what she wants to do, but she’s lacking even a bond to any hobbies or even herself… Someone help this poor girl get her head out of the clouds and get a little direction! Breath’s all about some sort of quest, so it’s a good title to press her on some sort of adventure… and she’ll drag everyone else along behind her, true breath-style.
As a seadweller, and a defective one at that, she knows that she is not well liked and can never find a place with her water-based kin, lest they discover that she’s essentially a phony and be culled. So, she avoids the seas altogether. She started keeping away from her hive (which is built into a cliff face right next to the water) by necessity, she quickly became infatuated with the escapism provided by her night rides with raymom. She loves the feel of the wind blowing through her hair and the weightlessness that flying provides. Mayrah also finds the lower castes better company, even though her mere presence renders vast majority of them uncomfortable. She enjoys ignoring the responsibilities her royal blood demands and would rather be out and about, bothering her friends and strangers alike. That being said, she is aware of the privileges of being royalty and will often try to make things go her way, as she believes that she knows best. If you deny her, she will quickly turn nasty and malicious, really putting the hurt on if she wants to.
I like the idea of bringing her up in the air even more than usual, taking her away from the ground, so maybe… when she starts feeling less comfortable around the water, she just moves onto her lusus’ back? I mean, her lusus is the size of a small airplane, so I bet it can handle a tent and some stuff. Maybe she doesn’t have too many possessions she’s all that concerned about, so she is able to travel light?
Flirting is also one of Mayrah’s hobbies and she’s quick to notice the better qualities within people. And her advances are often not rejected; she’s vain and is always dressed to the nines. She even perfumes her hair so that a light breeze would waft the scents to whoever she’s talking to. She hates the idea of commitment though and would rather be free to flirt with whoever she likes rather than be tied down by closed relationships. That being said, she talks big game but wouldn’t really know what to do if things actually got serious, so she’d rather just brush it off and not worry about it. In fact, she’d rather worry about your love life than her own. She’s nosy but will deflect any attempts to uncover her own feelings on the matter.
The flighty natures just keep on rollin!
Interests: Getting into everyone’s business, flirting, going on joyrides, perfume, flying kites, fanning herself in a dramatic manner
Maybe she could like skydiving too. Make her a casual thrillseeker! Wild activities fill the void when she’s not pestering other people or gossiping about pestering other people.
Title: Maid of Breath
Mayrah is a leader, even if she doesn’t really know what people should work towards. She spends a lot of time trying to create Direction in others, but really should be trying to figure what she wants rather than just pushing people towards things nilly willy. Although she’s only providing others with goals for her own benefit.
I do like this a lot, bc she is so actively involved, but she also isn’t really embracing her aspect totally in a way the maid would. She’s allowed the vast expansion of air to get a hold of her and isn’t channeling it in an actual direction. So learning to selfishly generate direction is kind of a good goal for her, development-wise. Of course the issue is her inverse would be Bard of Blood, which means she’d start passively breaking down connections and relationships… maybe once she started on the path she’d end up accidentally alienating her friends and needing to drop back down to earth. Find a healthy balance.
Land: Land of Smog and Whirlybirds (LoSaW)
I’d imagine that the land would be like a giant meadow planet filled with lovely flowers and windmills. There are also a lot of trees dropping those winged seeds (whirlybirds) that travel with the wind to find new places to sprout. However, Typheus sucked up all the breeze and spit out a choking layer of smog that is killing everything.
Thanks a lot, Typheus.
Dream Planet: Prospit
Mayrah is a reactive person who lives in the moment. She’s an optimistic person who is very focused on getting things done and gives very little thought to the possible consequences.
Appearance: Mayrah LOVES jewelry and would likely wear a lot of it. Her favourite metal is gold, so I’d imagine she’d wear gold bracelets, necklaces and rings. She fully embraces the luxury of being a seadweller; there’s no way you could mistake her as anything else. Especially since you’d likely be blinded by her bling. Her horns would probably look like stereotypical devil horns to really hammer in the “devilfish” imagery. She would be really proud of her hair and keep it in long, flowing locks, free to dance in the wind. I’ve always imagined her wearing mullet/high low dresses like this one: https://www.luckybridals.com/uploads/product/1/E/1E044/Strapless-purple-high-low-ruffled-chiffon-prom-dress-1.jpg
That way she’d have room to run comfortably AND look stylish as hell. She’d have a lot of her blood color in her outfit, but would also incorporate a lot of yellow because yellow is actually her favourite color.
Design:
Tumblr media
Horns: Nice and simple demon horns, as you said. Just a mild curve and all.
Hair: I wanted to make it have like, the floaty naturey of clouds? Because of how often she flies, but I also wanted to pull the ends up into a flipper-like look. So here she is, with a long and bouncy hair look.
Face: Her eyes aren’t anything special, just some shiny cute. Her mouth is meant to look a bit like a ray’s mouth.
Jewelry/shoes: I’m putting these in the same category since they’re all gold. She’s got a necklace and earrings, a little ray shaped pendant, and then some gold sneakers (edited from fan-troll’s base).
Outfit: Her top is a really simple no sleeve black shirt with her symbol. There’s a sash/belt combining it with the violet high/low skirt that I edited from fan-troll!
Thank you guys so much! I’ve had a lot of fun making my trolls and I really appreciate all the advice and ideas you’ve given me. I hope they were fun to review!
They were all really fun to review! Thank you so much for taking the time to share. <3

Alternia or Beforus or some type of AU?
Alternia
Name (preferably include how you came up with it and why): Varune Cabyll
‘Varune’ is based off of Varuna, the Hindu god of oceans. Varune is associated with water, his element. The name can be translated as “he who covers or binds.” Varuna also famously had a steed who was part fish. He is also a god of law, who punishes those who sin without remorse.
‘Cabyll’ comes from “cabyll-ushtey” which is Manx for “water horse,” more specifically the famed creatures called kelpies which appear to be normal horses that lure people into riding them and then drags them into a nearby body of water to consume them, only leaving the liver behind.
Oh I absolutely love kelpies, this is gonna be fun.
Age: 8 sweeps (~17 years old)
Strife Specibus: ropekind, pistolkind (revolverkind? I’m not sure if revolvers would have their own specibus), knifekind (bowie knife)
Varuna’s weapon of choice was a pasha; a rope or noose. Varune enjoys tying up his foes, strangling or hanging them. The revolver and bowie knife are more practical, as he is a bit of a survivalist and hunts for his own food. Plus, he has to butcher trolls for his lusus.
Revolvers are just guns, so pistolkind works! Though really ropekind might be all you need. In fact, maybe scrap guns and replace that with gluekind? As a reference to the way kelpies hunt. It’s often been theorized that you become stuck to the horse, as though glued. So Ropes, glue, and knives.
Fetch Modus: Knot modus (I can’t think of a better name). When he captchalogues an item, it immediately turns into a rope that he has to tie into a unique knot. If he attempts to retrieve the item, he has to successfully untie the knot.
Ooo, I like that!
Blood color: Cerulean
Symbol and meaning: Scorcen, the Uniter
“The Uniter” is kind of ironic because he’s really bad at making connections. Varune is trying really hard to find his place amongst others, but is mostly just good at making everyone hate or dislike him. Maybe he’s unites them in that way? He would love to bring people together, but the only way he knows how is by tying them up.
Trolltag: landboundEque
“Landbound” literally means “restricted by land” but it can also mean “going towards land.” An eque is a Roman knight or one from the order of nobility called Equites that often became knights. It is also the vocative singular form of “equus,” or horse. In Greek/Roman mythology, Poseidon/Neptune is the god of horses as well as the ocean. So although a landbound horse seems redundant, it hints that he is a being of water trapped on the earth.
Quirk: (he speaks kinda gently… with a bit o-f a so-uthern tang) (ya kno-w… like the who-le “speak so-ftly but carry a big stick” way a thinkin) ;]
Phrases are sectioned off with parenthesis which gives the impression of whispering and also looks like his facial scars. Will use horse puns and cowboy or southern lingo. Turns o’s into o-’s to represent little lassos or nooses. Doesn’t use periods, commas or most other punctuation but will use ellipses as a way to catch his breath. Will substitute “of” with “a” and cut off “g” from words with “ing.” Uses :] smilies and any variation of them. Will never swear and will likely use substitutes like “fiddlesticks” or “so-n o-f a gun.”
Now I love this… I really do… But Kelpies are scottish and I just cannot pass up the opportunity to tell you that Scots Highlanders and those of them who moved out to the old west match up with his personality tendencies so well. They were used to harsh and unforgiving land and were used to criminals and massacres, and they were damn willing to fight for their land. So maybe a scottish accent here instead of a southern one?
Special Abilities (if any): I like the idea that trolls hold the capabilities of all blood colors within their genes but only some are activated when the wriggler is developing, which differentiates them at birth. So polyblood incoming! Varune is a mutant and possesses the gills and fins that a seadweller would normally have as those genes were activated. Therefore, he is proficient at swimming and can breathe water. In order to hide his secret, he has forcibly removed his facial fins which has left his face scarred. He’s kind of sensitive about it (both emotionally and literally, the scars still hurt) so he tries to hide them behind messy hair. His normal lungs are a little deformed so he sometimes has trouble breathing air. This can be temporarily remedied by a quick dip in the water.
Varune also possesses the psychic abilities that ceruleans can have but slightly different. Rather than being able to control others, he is only capable of suppressing the abilities granted by their blood such as lowblood psychic powers, cerulean mind control, indigo freakish strength, purple chucklevoodoos and seadweller aquatic capabilities. He has to consciously overpower others and it takes a rather heavy toll on him physically. He starts hemorrhaging and will bleed from his eyes, nose, ears and mouth the longer he suppresses someone or if he is using his power on a particularly powerful individual. If he does it for long enough, old wounds, like his facial scars, will start to reopen and bleed. Luckily, he heals pretty quickly. That being said, he could lose fatal amounts of blood if he pushes himself too hard.
I do kind of like that this ability is something of a metaphysical lassoing. I definitely need to say though that people above the cerulean station are generally more resistant to psychic interference and that a powerful individual probably isn’t going to be someone he’ll be suppressing anyways. Like, I don’t think he’s going to be out here stopping a purple from chucklevoodooing because that’s what purples HAVE chucklevoodoos for, to stop the people below them from getting big heads and fighting back. So definitely keep this idea for people in the reasonable range, but it’s probably best to reduce the effective range of the ability so it’s not too OP.
Lusus: A cabyll-ushtey/kelpie. It looks like a regular horse when on land but has a fish tail. Like the Kelpie from the manga Dungeon Meshi https://imgur.com/a/rD6TRvQ
Varune’s lusus is his trusty but despised steed. It maintains an intense bloodlust and is immensely hungry. Unfortunately, its favourite food is fresh troll. He learned this the hard way when it tried to eat him when he was rather young, but fortunately Varune lasso’d its mouth shut, jumped on and didn’t let go until it calmed down. Since that incident, it seems to listen to him. However, Varune is forced to kill other trolls to give it a steady supply of meat. That at least keeps it from going mad from water deprivation, as he roped it into the whole cowboy shtick too.
God I love this thing, but kelpies kind of need water in some capacity? Maybe there could be a nearby lake that his lusus can take a dip in (and that Varune occasionally indulges in soaking in).
Personality: Varune feels most at home when he’s in the water. He feels like it calls to him if he stays away for too long. But if anyone ever saw him swimming, they would likely have him culled on the spot. As a safety precaution, Varune has abandoned his bayside hive to live farther inland. He can’t be tempted to go back to the water if he’s surrounded by plains as far as the eye can see! At least that’s what he thought. Even as he roams the countryside, he dreams of the embrace of the sea. He is determined to stay away, even if it makes him miserable. It’s better than being dead! He picked up the cowboy lifestyle as a way of coping with being landlocked and he really enjoys it! Unfortunately, it doesn’t reduce his love for water.
On land, he really feels like a fish out of water. Literally, he has trouble breathing the air due to his defective lungs. He’s also rather shy and uncomfortable, often bumbling through social interactions. He really would like to make friends, as he is really lonely and his lusus isn’t much company. He’s also afraid that someone might learn his secret, so he’s never comfortable enough to really get close to anyone. Varune feels most confident when doing his cowboy thing or when he’s in the water, but quickly falls apart when approached.
Other highbloods think he’s a joke. He has tried to associate himself with the local lowblood ranchers and what not, but is typically rejected because they think he’s making fun of them or simply because he’s a cerulean, a caste known for their cruelty and untrustworthiness. He’s hurt, and even a little bitter, about this but never takes it out on them. Instead, he takes it out on criminals, bandits and lusus thieves. He’s taken an oath to fight crime wherever he finds it. He doesn’t like to admit it, but he is truly a cerulean in that he loves subjugating and torturing those he deems detrimental to society. One time, after capturing a bunch of criminals, he lined them up and hanged them, one by one. It was one of the best moments in his life. It’s no wonder that the lower castes fear him.
As a result, he’s only managed to make a small group of friends. He had a prospective matesprit, Lelaps, who he bonded with through their love of the wild, but found himself in an auspistice with their ex-moirail, Hemati. He is attracted to Hemati blackwise and loves that all three of them are in a relationship together. Since he’s unsure if he can get them both, he is more than happy to continue the ashen romance they’ve got going. He’s a little desperate. Varune has somehow managed to befriend a seadweller, a very excitable girl who seems to like being on land. He feels a kinship with her, so they get along pretty well, even if she kind of drags him into all sorts of things. But he likes being pulled into stuff and is grateful to be included in her escapades, no matter what they are.
Something about kelpies that I need you to know here is that they’re like, Dangerously Attractive. In horse form they’re known to be beautiful, like, prize horses, and in humanoid form they’re known to be Gorgeous. Like, Distressingly So. That’s part of their temptation play in trapping prey. So I think maybe that’s something you should utilize? Ceruleans are said to have a mask for every situation- and you’ve worked on that well enough with his cowboy schtick and hiding his identity, but I think you could play with it a little more in the criminal range. Him acting like a charmin’ young cowboy (hey, the hot cowboy IS a trope-) and kinda lullin them into a false sense of security and oops, suddenly you’re lusus food.
I dunno if the like, really obvious murders should be a thing tho. I think maybe he could like, just quietly get rid of criminals and feed them to his lusus. And so there’s rumors around him that tend to keep other people, uhhh… away.
Interests: Being a cowboy, fighting crime, torturing criminals, trying to make friends, puns, lassoing, hunting, swimming
Title: ??? of Blood
Bonds are extremely important to Varune. He’s really bad at making them, but he tries. He likes binding things together or binding things to him. Strangely enough, Varune is kind of fighting his heritage and also not. The seadweller within his genes is calling for him to return to his home, the ocean, but the cerulean that runs through his veins is bound to the land. So he is caught between land and the sea, like how his lusus is simultaneously a land and water creature. He devotes himself to a cause and to a people, regardless of how they treat him. He is also trapped by the expectations of society, as he can’t truly be where he belongs in the sea on the threat of death and is shunned by the people he seeks to be kin with because of the reputation of his caste.
As for titles, I’m unsure of what he could be. I’ve considered Knight, someone who serves Blood, because he’s a dude on a horse and he’s horse-themed. It’s a gimme. Also since he shares the Knightly problem of lacking in their Aspect from the get-go. Prince or Bard was also considered because of how he breaks ties with things only to find himself tied to other things, as well as he tries to escape the bonds of his blood only to find himself bound once again. There’s also the denial of the gifts of blood that his psychic ability has on others.
Oh, I like love Bard of Blood for him. The passive destroyer of what gives. He’s someone who accidentally breaks down the bonds around him and who also denies his own aspect in many ways. Bards refuse their aspect in many ways and I do think that’s largely what he’s doing… And doing so kind of does create a freedom for himself. Living on the plains, the Wide Open Spaces that the breathbound would so enjoy…
Land: Land of Crowns and Rings (LoCaR)
I’m not totally sure of what the Land should be called, so I’m willing to hear suggestions!
I imagined a land that’s mostly covered with cerulean blue water with grey, rocky islands. Instead of nice sandy shores, the beaches are lined with huge, sharp rocks like stalagmites that act as a deterrent from going into the waters. A bird’s eye view would make the islands look like crowns from the rings of spikes. Also, crowns can be used to describe the height of waves or tides. So there would be huge waves crashing uselessly against the rocks, unable to get in.
I’m gonna go on a bit of a tangent here and talk about what Varune’s Denizen could be. This is gonna be a doozy.
As a counterpart to Breath players’ Typheus/Typhon, I thought Zeus would be a good Blood Denizen. Why? Typheus/Typhon is the strongest of monsters and had to be defeated by the strongest of gods himself, Zeus. Although Zeus is typically associated with the sky, (just as Typheus is a ground monster) he most often punishes wrongdoers by trapping or binding them. Typheus himself was either bound to Mt. Edna or trapped in Tartarus by Zeus. Zeus also famously bound Prometheus to a rock, Cronus was similarly trapped in Tartarus, and chained up many kings as punishment. Blood is the aspect of Imprisonment and Binding, but also of Relationships, Legacy, Oaths and literal Bloodlines. Zeus is famous for having many children and is related to every other god in some way. Who would have a Legacy/Bloodline more well-known than Zeus? Zeus is also called upon as the keeper of oaths and is invoked by those making oaths/promises.
I guess the Land’s Quest could be that the wrath of Zeus was awoken and resulted in the imprisonment of the consorts, Turtles, onto the barren islands, away from the bountiful sea.
I Love this……… this is a really great concept, really. The consorts, separated from the sea by the giant pillars of stone surrounding their islands. Varune, the Bard of Breath’s quest is to destroy the ground that binds them and allow them to feel the ocean breeze once more…
Dream Planet: Derse
Varune is ultimately unhappy with the circumstances of his life. He feels trapped by society’s standards and wants to be free to live his life but is also desires to be a part of it. He hates how people are separated by their castes and wants everyone to live together and treat each other fairly. He hates that he is a member of snobby nobility and would rather just do his own thing. He knows that highbloods treat everyone else like garbage and wants to help them when and where he can, even if they hate him and want nothing to do with him.
Appearance: Varune would definitely have long hair in a ponytail, with messy bangs that attempt to cover his facial scars. He probably dresses like a stereotypical dashing cowboy with the hat an all. Maybe also with a bandana to cover his face during day excursions.
Design!:
Tumblr media
Horns: I wanted to have one reflect the symbol and one in the sort of iconic cerulean hook style, especially because a hook looks vaguely like a fish tail that Could be on a kelpie.
Hat: I edited it from llemonllum’s base. Cerulean cowboy hat!
Hair: I wanted to keep it relatively simple, with crowded bangs for scar hiding purposes. There’s a hairband in Hemati’s blood color.
Face: I just wanted to try to make him as handsome as the homestuck style will allow.
Outfit: Just a handkerchief over a normal buttondown that you’d see on a cowboy and cerulean denim I edited from Terezi’s pants.
Shoes: Cowboy boots in Lelaps green!
He’s great! Thank you for sharing.

Me again! Sorry, this is gonna be a long one.
Alternia or Beforus or some type of AU?
Alternia
Name (preferably include how you came up with it and why): Lelaps Mursil
‘Lelaps’ is a variation of the name of a magical dog in Greek mythology that would catch anything it hunted. It was said to have possibly been a gift from Artemis, one of the deities that Lelaps is themed after. Lelaps is most famously known for chasing the Teumassian fox, a monstrous creature who could never be caught. This was a paradox that was fated to go on forever until divine intervention turned the two creatures into stars. I think this determination is fitting for “The Tenacious” and can also be related to their lusus, the Questing Beast, which is a monster whose call sounds like dogs questing (on the hunt). Lelaps will actually bark like their lusus instead of hissing like other trolls!
‘Mursil’ is the shortened name of Mursili II, a king of the Hittite Empire who was known for receiving a heavenly sign (an eclipse) just as he prepared to wage war. Lelaps is associated with the sun, moon, Artemis and Apollo so I thought that an eclipse would be a good way to tie those in together. Mursili’s eclipse was also seen as an omen or prophecy.
Lelaps is themed around melding the sun, moon, Artemis and Apollo together as a sort of balance. Their associated element is earth.
This is all really clever and good!  The prophecy thematics and association with Artemis and Apollo do make a lot of sense w/ these names.
Age: 8 sweeps (~17 years old)
Strife Specibus: bowkind
Both Artemis and Apollo are master archers! Plus, archers have to have a good sense of timing in order to hit their marks.
I have to say that I love this because of the musical associations you’ve put in and the fact that you could craft a lyrebow later. Or a violinbow, because of the visual pun of drawing a bow across a bow. Anyways-
Fetch Modus: Since Lelaps is named after a dog, I thought that a literal Fetch Modus would be funny. Like it can store items normally but any item taken out is launched like a frisbee or a ball so Lelaps has to catch it. Their instincts are pretty good so they usually are able to instantly catch whatever pops out. Otherwise, it goes flying and they better run to catch it!
This IS good, but I think a lot of people think of fetch modus for dog themed trolls? It’s definitely interesting enough to work, but might I recommended Mailman Modus.
The item sprouts a pair of wings and Lelaps has to chase it down. This is a reference to the fact that dogs are often portrayed as chasing mailmen and the fact that the name Lelaps comes from a hound chasing a fox across the sky, but also a reference to Hermes, who was a godly messenger and who helped conduct Apollo’s grandchild to the oracle of Delphi in the play Ion.
Blood color: Olive
Although duality fits a goldblood better, I honestly would prefer them to be an oliveblood. Olivebloods tend to be associated with the wilderness.
They definitely tend to be more animal themed and more in-tune with nature, so I can understand why. I don’t think there’s really enough of an explicit Divide in them that it’s necessary and I think they personality-wise suit the olive range much better regardless.
Symbol and meaning: Leries, the Tenacious
The sign kind of makes me think of an eclipse and it fits Lelaps pretty well too.
It ALSO looks like a snake which is pretty fun.
Trolltag: I’m honestly not sure what to go with for this one. Maybe AA to stand for Artemis and Apollo?
How about aclaicAscham? Aclaic is a reference to Alcaeus of Mytilene, a Greek lyrical poet. An Ascham is a cupboard that is used to hold archery equipment.
Quirk: I considered having them write using either types of poetry (like haikus) or capitalizing syllables to match different meters (iambic, trochaic, etc) but wasn’t sure if that would be a decent one. Poets often use rhythm to know where they are in a piece, so I thought that incorporating iambic pentameter [(unstressed + stressed) x5] with filler words (ah, uh, um, etc) would be a good way to show that they’re kind of distracted but trying to stay on it.
Ex. SomeTIMES you GET a LITtle LOST when UH SpeaKING to OTHers, SO you UM use A RhythMIC pace TO keep TRACK of WHERE you ARE.
I love this a lot, and I was almost tempted to switch it, but… The Questing Beast is from Arthurian legend and the Idylls of the King is written in blank verse, so it does make at least some sense… If anything else I’d have to recommend switching to the Alcaic stanza or to Dactylic hexameter, but I think unrhymed iambic pentameter works well enough.
Special Abilities (if any): They have excellent rhythm and impeccable timing. It’s basically second nature to them. They are also plagued with visions of the future, in which they get glimpses into different timelines, majority of which are doomed. These visions only come to them as they sleep and are particularly disorienting. The knowledge of possible future events, makes them lose track of the present as they confuse the alpha timeline with the others. As a result, they rarely sleep and try to stay conscious as long as possible. They also understand the language of animals but it isn’t very helpful as it just allows them to hear the animals’ screams as they kill their prey. Both of these abilities were given to them by their lusus when they were a wriggler as it licked their ears while they slept (snakes licking ears could grant animal communication or ability to predict the future in Greek mythology).
We’ve seen that Terezi’s lusus could telepathically communicate, so I guess it IS possible for lusii to have abilities independent from their trolls and it is possible for them to externally share those abilities. So while I’m Hmmming as ever, I do think it makes sense.
Lusus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Questing_Beast
The Questing Beast, a strange hybrid of a snake and a giraffe that barks like a dog. It taught them how to hunt for prey. The creature is known for being on the quest/hunt while others quest/hunt for it as well. It is a creature associated with prophecies and fate, usually bad ones. Snakes are known for being sources of knowledge as well as animal communication in Greek mythology and are a sacred animal of Apollo, god of prophecy. It’s association with the hunt, its deer-like features and association with nature are representative of Artemis. Due to its elusive nature, Lelaps very rarely sees their lusus. They are more than capable of tracking them down but grew tired of the cat-and-mouse (troll-and-lusus?) game it likes to play. It tries to goad Lelaps back into it so sometimes it barks around the forest outskirts of their hive.
This is SUCH a cool lusus.
Personality: Lelaps is patient, almost to a fault. In order to keep stay awake, they divert all their energy and attention to tasks; anything to keep busy. As a result, they’re somewhat like a Renaissance troll who takes up many hobbies. They are in the process of learning every instrument in existence and can play most of them decently but favor the lyre, aulos (double reed) and the piano. They’re definitely skilled at playing and reading music, but are notoriously bad at writing original pieces. When they’re not playing music or being bad at poetry (they’re working on it!), they’re out hunting for food, typically under the cover of darkness. They like to decorate their hive with trophies from the hunt. They even carved the keys of their piano from animal bone!
Lelaps is proud to be very self-sufficient, or is at least proud of how hard they try to be. With so much occupying their mind and hands, they often lose track of themself and are constantly distracted. Their former moirail, Hemati, helped them keep organized and structured while they diverted his outbursts to more productive activities. They also used to share their shitty poetry with him and he showed them his shitty sculptures and they would have a grand ol’ time. They miss him but thought they had a great thing going pale-wise. His meddling with their flushed crush and their crush’s inaction has worsened relations between all three. They try to drown out their hurt by throwing themselves into their hobbies even more, neglecting their auspisticizing duties.
In general, Lelaps tries to be the “responsible” friend and often mediates. They’re dying for some peace and quiet! They’re a very caring individual and tries to be kind, or at least tolerate in terms of a particular violetblood, everyone they meet. So along with their hobbies, they have to juggle their responsibilities of keeping their friends from fighting. All of it is very exhausting, both physically and mentally, so they’re extremely stressed most of the time. As a result, they’re trying to hold it all together but have breakdowns every now and then and don’t know who to turn to. They don’t like to admit it but they do tend to feel better after passing out.
Since you gave them the time assignment and I do want to try to stick to that, I definitely want to focus on their fight element a little more? Because the way you have things positioned now, they read more like a time player than anything else. So it could be that they have a tendency to be not only too patient, but too passive. Y’know, as in it takes a lot to get them to actually stand up for themself. They want to meander and don’t want to actually reach towards a strict goal, they don’t want to call things out, they don’t want to Tell Hemati to stop being Like That. So that’s something they’d need to learn to do.
Interests: Music, archery, hunting, writing (shitty) poetry, avoiding sleeping, worrying about what their ex-moirail is doing
Title: Mage of Time
Lelaps is themed after prophecy and natural instinct, so I thought that Mage of Time would be a perfect fit!
It’s super fitting! The prophecies make a lot of sense w/ this assignment as well as them learning to Understand the need for fight being a positive development for them.
Land: Land of Tracks and Arrows (LoTaA)
Get it? Tracks like music tracks and animal tracks? Sorry for the bad puns. I’m not entirely sure what their quest should be, but I thought Tracks and Arrows would be good as they’re words that work with their themes. Since Mages are a guiding class, maybe they have to be able to interpret the music of their surroundings to hunt for huge monsters terrorizing the land. I was thinking about the planet being covered in winding paths and trees in various stages of life (saplings, full grown, dead, petrified, etc). The Scratch construct could be a giant, old-timey phonograph.
Maybe the tracks of the creatures could even be musical? Like if you step in the footprints they make music? And you have to interpret the song and follow a specific pattern of steps in order to guide the consorts to the goal?
Dream Planet: Derse
Lelaps is definitely self-assured and tries to be control of the situation. They also try to keep their weaknesses secret; they don’t want to have to rely on anyone other than themself. They’re not really a part of normal society as a result and lives in a cabin hive deep in a forest. They’re not scared of being alone but don’t want to be. Hemospectrum and caste stuff doesn’t really matter at all to them since they feel distanced from it all.
Hmmmm…….. I feel like you need to touch a little harder on them being dissatisfied with their current position/wanting to make a change but potentially feeling unable if you want to validate this assignment instead of prospit.
Sprite: I always imagined that Lelaps would mostly dress practically but loves the shade of green their blood is. Not for caste reasons, just thinks it’s a great color. Plus it blends in well with the trees. Maybe they’d also have a cape with a hood in case they’re hunting during the day, to protect themselves from Alternia’s inhospitable sun. Otherwise, they’d probably dress in active wear with boots or something to easily traverse the woods. They’re not particularly vain, so their hair would probably be cut short and wavy/tousled. Until I saw Diemen from Friend Sim, I didn’t think that trolls could have freckles but now I really want Lelaps to have some!
Tumblr media
Horns: I just dog-eared them. Fun and free.
Hair: I gave them the sort of wavy hair that’s typical of old Greek art. But I also added a knot to the top bit of flippy hair? Because that shows up a lot in art of Apollo, this bit of tied hair.
Eyes: I wanted to make them pretty doggy in shape, but I added a more snake-like pupil. I also wanted to be sure I gave them big bags, because they’re tired.
Mouth/freckles: Doggy w mouth and some freckles!
Torso: I gave them an olive half-cape, with the hood being very, very edited from John’s hood/cape.
Pants/shoes: Edited from fan-troll’s sprite sheet! I just made darker olive pants to go along with the idea of blending into the woods and kept the shoes simple and dark.
Note: I don’t usually mess around with body proportions of Homestuck sprites, because there’s a fairly strict range of rules, but for them I DID make them a bit taller than the standard sprite. It’s probably barely noticeable just looking, but with the snake/giraffe lusus, I couldn’t not make them a bit longer.
I love this pal. Thanks for sharing!
