It took me three attempts to post it correctly but here it is.

SUMMARY:

Since Li Xiangyi came back, Di Feisheng has been acting weird and he notices it. Di Feisheng can't sleep and his "rival" knows why because he knows him and can read through his walls.

FROM THE STORY:

Di Feisheng’s body was warm under Li Xiangyi despite having been uncovered for the whole time since they had come to bed after making love. He was passionate and fiery every time, sometimes gentler, sometime rougher but always respectful. Since the first time they had started their relationship, since he had come back, the so-called Demon King had always been accommodating. Too much in Li Xiangyi’s opinion. His “rival” had always been direct and sure, if there was something he wanted he had always fight to gain it no matter what. Like for their match, since they had met after 10 years, he had been pestering him to fight again. Even after knowing about his health condition, he had been stubborn and determined to find a cure to have that damn rematch. So, such passive behavior wasn’t like him and he knew what it was due

Wei Wuxian has only ever seen Hanguang-Jun from a distance, and often in the light of the full moon which reflected off his scales, blurring his figure to any who dared look at it straight on. I would like to recommend this beauty and the beast, fairytale story with Dragonji and sacrifice!Wei Wuxian. It's sweet, fluffy with some angst and heartbreak but nothing too heavy. Their brand of miscommunication and Wei Wuxian's uncanny ability to get in trouble.

(When I read AU's about a story; like MDZS it almost feels like reading about the same people from different worlds with different experiences. This story reminds me of when they call each other zhiji, it makes me want to believe it. Like they are soulmates meant to be together no matter the world, the universe itself will conspire to bring them together. That's kinda the vibe that I felt when reading this story.)

So I rewatched the confrontation scene between Wei Ying, Jiang Cheng, and Lan Zhan in the Jiang Ancestral Hall.

In the novel, Jiang Cheng mocked the fact that what Wei Ying and Lan Zhan have for each other is romantic and not just that of friends. And people kept saying that this scene in the novel has more impact etc etc… because Jiang Cheng really insulted them that they’re in love. I’m not going to invalidate that… but I’m just going to explain why this scene in the drama has a great impact too.

In the drama, Jiang Cheng insulted their great friendship. I haven’t seen people point this out… but what Jiang Cheng really said didn’t mean the usual “friendship.” He could have said “友誼” or “交情” which means the type of friendship we’re all aware of.

But Jiang Cheng didn’t say any of those! He said “知己 (zhiji)” or “confidant” or “soulmate”— the very word that both Wei Ying and Lan Zhan say lovingly to each other (in the drama).

Jiang Cheng said: “为什么要道歉？为侮辱了你们这段伟大的知己之情吗？”

为什么 - why ; 要 - will (I) ; 道歉 - apologize ; 为 - for ; 侮辱 - insulting ; 了 - indicates past tense ; 你们 - your (plural) ; 这段 - this ; 伟大 - great ; 的 - of ; 知己 - confidant/intimate friend/soulmate ; 之情 - feeling/emotion; 吗 - indicating a question.

If we translate Jiang Cheng’s words directly, it would say, “Why will I apologize? For having insulted this great soulmate thing of yours?”

Note that 知己 isn’t commonly used in spoken language. It’s mostly seen in written texts only. But Wei Ying and Lan Zhan made 知己 their endearment for each other. Jiang Cheng used that very special and emotional word and tarnished it with his acrid mouth. He wasn’t just insulting their love but he insulted what they are to each other— the very nature of their relationship. (He wasn’t insinuating that they might be in love. He was outright attacking them for what they are.) He even emphasized the insult by adding 偉大 or ‘great’ sarcastically.

That’s why Wei Ying immediately lashed out. Because how dare Jiang Cheng ruin that special word he has with Lan Zhan?!

When Hei Xiazi met Xie Yuchen… I think the logic is very simple. The answer that resides in their hearts is the same; for many things, they have the same answer. Hei Xiazi might use his long life and many experiences to achieve his final conclusion, whereas Xie Yuchen uses his own intelligence and reasoning to reach a final conclusion. This answer [that they come up with] is in a different direction; it’s not the same as what Wu Xie and Zhang Qiling, or Pangzi, might come up with. This answer is one in which only the two of them know; in fact, this answer is one in which only they can understand. The roads of the past cannot be chosen; Xie Yuchen has no way of [going back and] choosing the path that Wu Xie has taken. He has already walked onto the path that he must continue on. The answer on this path is the same as the path that Hei Yanjing originally chose [to walk on]—the final conclusion is shared. So that’s the reason why these two have a resonance within the whole story.

i love how fanghua are so danmei coded. fang duobing as the protective nianxia ml whose life was so monumentally changed and shaped by a shifu he met only once when he was younger but whose small act of kindness moved him so deeply that he spent most of his life trying to get stronger, working hard to finally be able to catch up to and be worthy of that glorious shifu that he so admired.

except he finally meets that shifu again years later as an adult and he's finally caught up to him but now their positions are reversed - li lianhua is now the sickly one, and fallen from grace; fdb is now the (physically) stronger one, the young hero, and he becomes friends with and falls for llh who he now no. longer wants to be the disciple of. instead, he now wants to protect and care for li lianhua like one protects and cares for a lover.

Imagine Di Feisheng periodically visiting the sect to try and find the prison. Imagine him just breezing through everyone (because I honestly can't believe that 6 supposed masters couldn't make him sweat, it was delicious), and not seriously hurting any of them because the power difference is big enough that he can do that.

And Fang Duobing is just there, I'll make up a reason for why later, and they just have romantic one-side death matches amongst the trees. (One-sided because A'Fei is having fun while Fang Duobing is seriously trying to kill him...sort of.)
