THE MOON

My favorite "planet'' to seek out in somebody's natal chart. It's my favorite for a reason of course, showing what makes us safe, grounded, subconsciously ill or better, the relationship with our mothers, our fears, our soft side underneath that rigid shell.

🟦 One of the two lunars in astrology, shining light at the darkest and deepest waters. People always think how the Sun is so important (which I'm not saying it isn't), but for some reason the moon has it's secrets...it's depths that need to be unraveled. It has this spice of mystery, this picture of a naked soul we so desperately try to avoid.

In my humble opinion, the Moon has more power than the Sun (the ego, self) since the Moon is all about raw emotions and something you cannot mask most of the time.

🟦 The moons master is of course the water sign Cancer. Cancerian energy is all about safety. Cancers roam the shores, making sure they don't get caught for dinner. They move around in a zig-zag manner, meaning nothing is head on and everything and I mean EVERYTHING is thought threw. One wrong move and it's over for the shielded Cancer. They really are scared to go away, see new things since safety is always a question. The moment the get their tiny claws on a home in the rocks, they stay. Finally peace! Because of this we can say Cancers are very intuitive aswell, knowing when and how to come up from the cave, even though they can't really move their head to see above. They have to trust their instincts and follow their heart!

🟦 Cancer also represents the Mother, the womb, motherly instincts, security, emotional depth, the Home, nurture, children.

🟦 Interesting fact that I've learned is if you don't feel like your Sun sign, look at your SECT. Meaning you have to find out is your chart is a DAY or NIGHT CHART. If the sun is in the bottom half of your chart,you have a night chart and if it's in the top half, that's right, you're a day chart than. So when you're chart is a day chart you gravitate more to the energy of the Sun and if you have a night chart the energy of the moon feels more like home! Even though it doesn't have to be that way. Also looking at the placement of your moon will indicate the intensity of this planet.

For example Moon in the 1, 8 or 12 house is on another level of intensity.

🟦 Moon also rules the 5th house. To put it shortly the 5th house is all about comfort, family and the Home. It also represents our maternal figure, our inheritance threw our ancestors, children, tradition, emotions.

Let's begin my astro observations for the moon, shall we? I'll write down some of my observations about signs and placements for the Moon!

🌙 Aries moons in my opinion have a hard time with managing their emotions, especially rage.

🌙 Taurus moons can be quite grounded in reality but very fixed on their emotions. Very stubborn about how they feel. Also, can be the jealous type. They are homebodies and introverts if they don't have a lot of fire/air energy in their chart.

🌙 Cancer moons are so complex to me. Even though they are at home with their sign they can be the kindest person ever or the most manipulating creature to have walked the earth. I see a lot of trouble with cancer moons in men, since cancer is a feminine sign, so if they constitley reject their feminine side...all hell will break loose. I've also noticed cancer moons hate working, they just want to stay home, watch TV and snuggle up in their blankey. They are the one's to be stressed out when they come back home, but after a while they acclimate to their familiar surroundings. They love a home-cooked meal aswell!

🌙 Moon in 8th house people always dabble in drugs. They are very found of psychedelics most of the time. Not big alcohol drinkers tbh. They are the people others are fascinated with and want to drain the soul out of them. 8th house mooners watch out for energy vampires and people who come to you only in rough patches. Be selfish, be raw. Protect your being and time.

🌙 Scorpio moooooons, my absolute favorite of the bunch. They have this psycho look in their eyes filled with mystery. They can be very vengeful and secretive at times, just don't double cross them. They love to test people's loyalty to see how long they will stay. A scorpio moon isn't gonna fold just like that, because once they do they don't get over you for a very very very long time. Especially if their chart is predominantly water. They love making you feel special and putting you on a pedestal. For me, Scorpio moons know what intense love is and for that I'm very jealous.

🌙 Moon in the 12th house can be a rough placement, but it does come with positive traits. 12th house natives know they are a little bit weird and crazy some days. They are prone to drugs and alcohol, mental issues and radical emotional changes in life, but at the sam time they feel everything from everyone. Huge empaths, can be kinda psychic. They really hold so much power, but beware of bad people trying to bring you down a dark path. Also, side note, if you have a 12 house moon, your mom also has it if you're a girl....go check it out.

🌙 Aquarius moons are weird, to put it shortly. They can smell what others feel but they don't really care. They have a hard time letting people in and even processing their own emotions. They also can seem selfish, but it's just because they don't feel emotions really deep. When there closed off from you, it's going to stay that way. Can be manipulative if they have a lot of air/water in their chart.

🌙 Moon in the 11 house love hanging out with the "underdogs" of society. They really want the misfits to come together and relate.

🌙 Sag moons have a reputation for cheating, but I don't really believe in it. They are fuckboys, don't get me wrong but once they find their person, it's over and done. They do like air/fire moons because they need space. Earth moons are to methodical for them and water signs are too clingy....and if the other person has venus/mars in water it's a no go most of the time. Sorry.

🌙 Cancer in the 4 house like their boobies touched/kissed. Since Cancer does also rule over the breasts!

🌙 Pisces moons, damn. They are something, let me tell you. Delusional as fuck about love/romance that's for sure. They always want to be the shrink to all the friends. Pisces moons are the ones to go missing in the middle of the party, only for you to find out they've gone for a 3 hour walk because they wanted to be alone. They enjoy reading, art and are such softies.

🌙 Capricorn moons need some water in their chart, otherwise they are fucking rocks.

🌙 Moon in the 1 house give the native such a cute appearance. So pure and humble in my opinion.

🪸 Meet the Giant Clam (Tridacna gigas)! 🪸

 This impressive mollusc is an inhabitant of the ocean floors. It lives in shallow-sunlit waters near coral reefs.

It’s the largest marine bivalve (same group as mussels and oysters), with a shell that can measure up to 1.4 meters at full maturity, weighing up to 250 kilos! #NatureIsTheGreatestShow

Believe it or not, Giant Clams can “walk”.As juveniles, they move very slowly across the ocean floor to find a spot with the best possible sun exposure.Once in place on the reef, a healthy Giant Clam will live on the spot for up to one hundred years!

They live in symbiosis with billions of Zooxanthellae on their tissue - the same algae that live on corals. The Clam provides the algae with a secure place to live. In turn, the algae absorb solar energy and transform it into sugar and other nutrients the mollusc can consume. They allow the Giant Clam to grow to its full size, even when plankton is scarce.

Giant Clams are recognized by the zig-zag shape of their shell, yet each individual presents a unique colourful pattern on its mantle. The Zooxhanthellae algae mixing with the Giant Clam's natural pigments are to thank for these vibrant colour patterns, while the iridescence is caused by a type of cells that protects them from UV radiation.

The massive size and strange appearance of the clams cost them their reputation. According to legends, these “Killer Clams” waited at the bottom of the sea, shell open, to trap unwary swimmers and swallow them in an instant!

In reality, these clams are harmless to humans: they retract when facing threat and move too slowly anyway, not able to fully close their shells in time.

Humans on the other hand, are the Giant Clam’s biggest threat. Overfishing and illegal poaching almost drove these molluscs to extinction. They are caught for their sought-after mantle tissue (‘meat’) and for their pretty ivory-looking shells used as ornaments or jewels. Today, they are considered a vulnerable species.  

And this is a problem. Giant Clams play a crucial role in their habitat. Their presence, or absence, is a vital indicator of a coral reef's health. [pictures of living Giant Clams through Canva]

headcanons for the girafarig line?

Girafarig can run backwards surprisingly well thanks to being able to see out of their tails. This zig-zagging effect when running helps to distract and confuse predators.

The main head tends to be relatively peaceful. The tail, however, is extremely aggressive and will bite anything that comes near it, friend or foe.

The tail's small brain produces all of the Pokemon's psychic capabilities. If a Girafarig looses its tail, it also looses its psychic-typing and can't evolve (but is otherwise okay).

Farigiraf will close their second heads over their main head when they get upset.

The line lives in small heards. Farigiraf protect the younger Girafarig from predators.

Farigiraf can no longer see behind itself, but it can sense incoming danger via its psychic abilities instead.

In some regions, the line has different markings. There are debates on whether these differences indicate regional variants or not.

It is believed that Girafarig only evolve into Farigiraf when the two minds are in sync, like when using twin beam.

La Pluie: On desire, vulnerability, and the perils of not clarifying your relationship status

Hooooo my god y’all, this episode has sent me into the stratosphere. First of all, let me just send you back here to read @bengiyo on this show’s depiction of queer desire because boy is it relevant to today’s episode. His read of this show, and the sexual dynamics at play between Patts and Tai, was absolutely spot on.

Today’s episode explored a couple major themes:

The interplay between desire and vulnerability

The perils of not clarifying your relationship status

Let’s start with the first, because that bed scene has been playing on a loop in my head. Throughout this episode, we see that Tai is both very into Patts, and also still not quite ready to jump in with both feet. He is happy and proud for others to know Patts is his soulmate.

He can’t stop remembering their makeout session and getting all flustered and shy about it.

He is finding ways to spend time together and exchanging shy smiles with him.

He comes up with an excuse to touch Patts in bed.

He initiates another kiss.

And he is extremely into it when they start getting down to business.

So why does he pull back when Patts goes to remove his pants, clearly about to return to the act he intended to perform last time? Because being the one to receive pleasure would make Tai feel vulnerable, and he is not ready to go there yet. He is still struggling to come to terms with the fact that he very much does want to be with the person society calls his soulmate, despite his own fear and discomfort with the idea. At the same time, he does genuinely like and want Patts, and so he offers to give pleasure instead.

I love love love this scene because it gives us such a clear indication of where Tai is emotionally. Because of all the baggage he has attached to the idea of soulmates, he is fighting his own instincts. His brain, his body, his heart are clearly all pointing straight at Patts, but he’s afraid to trust it because Patts is all tangled up with his confused feelings about this supposed destiny. It’s such a great depiction of that internal push-pull he’s feeling while also leaving no doubt where his true feelings lie.

Now onto the second theme, the perils of not clarifying your relationship status. Let me just say it outright: this one is all on Tai. Patts was ready to declare themselves faen as soon as they had aired out all their misunderstandings. He wanted Tai before he knew they were soulmates and he wants him now. It’s Tai who is holding back because of his hang ups about the soulmate myth.

This came back to bite him twice in this episode, first with Lomfon and then with Nara. Now here I have to get into a side point because this episode clarified something for me: there is no triangle here. This show just loves to zig when you expect it to zag, and they did it again today. Because Tai is not considering Lomfon at all - he is entirely occupied with Patts, and his hesitations have nothing to do with Lomfon’s pursuit, which he still isn’t even perceiving. Bow is the one who keeps telling him Lomfon is circling and likely to become a problem if he doesn’t make his relationship with Patts clear, but Tai truly still doesn’t seem to even believe her. It’s a non-issue for him, except for Lomfon hanging around dropping rude comments and making everyone feel awkward. But Patts is not quite so oblivious, and you can tell he clocked Lomfon immediately, though he doesn’t seem to feel the need to do anything about it.

In any case, the more important interference here is from Nara, because it caught Tai so off guard. We have already seen Patts kindly but firmly reject Nara. It seems she showed up here without being invited to surprise him. She even tells Tai she is here trying to pursue her ex, just so there’s no confusion (for us anyway). We can see that Patts is standing stiffly and his mouth is clenched tightly shut when she kisses him, in stark contrast to his kisses with Tai, which are always open-mouthed and loose and enthusiastic. So there’s really no question for us, the audience, that what Tai has walked in on is simply Nara’s last desperate attempt, and Patts is probably gonna push her away in quick order. Tai has absolutely nothing to worry about.

But he doesn’t know that, because he has shied away from clarifying his relationship with Patts and denied himself the security he should be feeling when witnessing such a scene. For Tai to react so strongly to seeing someone else kiss Patts is another clear signal of how deep his feelings already run. Despite his resistance to being with his soulmate because of everything that happened with his parents, he does already feel that Patts is somehow his and he does want to be with him. All that’s left is for him to accept it.

A while ago @nafeathers​ passed me their typesetting for Kurt Vonnegut’s The Manned Missiles, which I used for my sampler set testing out the options because I trust other folk’s design choices (aspect ratios) far more than my own. The texts are trimmed to “max width” of physical page even though the typesetting remained scaled proportionally-- in some options, the height is the limiting factor, others width. [All pages printed on US Letter paper]

Of course I remain obsessed/in love with my “Mini” layout but am newly fond of the “Small” one and recently bound a ~40k text using it with much satisfaction (and legibility).

The green cutting mat pictures show pre-trimmed & trimmed texts & relative text sizes. The numbers indicate how many pages fit on a single side of a printed page. In my opinion, the best layouts are the “Small”, “Tiny”, and “Mini” ones since they’re “duplex on the short side” fold-up zig-zags and I’ve a strong (but totally unfounded) belief that I get less printer skew that way.

Not spider fact but spider story. Last weekend I was cleaning out the leaf debris in my backyard and came across a massive, elaborate spiderweb on one of the trees. The wind had blown some leaves and flowers and dust onto the web, exposing it. Then the spider came out, and despite how much I don't like spiders (sorry casper but after finding a brown recluse in my house I just can't with them), I couldn't help but be fascinated and watch as it crawled around its web and disconnected the areas with dust and debris on it without collapsing the web itself until the whole web was hidden again.

!!!! yep they say that orb-weavers are literally born knowing how to make near-mathematically exact webs in that distinctive circular + criss-cross pattern. they thought that for sure the spiders must have had a learning curve/ learned in a community-based way but nope! spiders kept in total isolation & hatched alone in lab conditions STILL spun their webs flawlessly.

they actually note that orb-weaver webs tend to become more erratic in conjunction with the age of the spider, indicating that they’re born with the ‘blueprint’ for a typical, ‘perfect’ web & learn to adapt the pattern to suit their environment. which makes it messier but more effective!

& orb weavers also create little zig-zag patterns with fat soft threads & arachnologists think that this might be so birds can see the web & avoid flying into it - since your typical banana spider, for example, would not attempt to hunt or eat birds; it actually helps them to avoid the often 3-hour task of building a new web after a bird destroys it. their prey won’t be alerted by the patterning but the way that avian sight works means that it helps birds to avoid flying through webs.

even humans tend to blunder into banana spider webs because they’re extremely difficult to see in forested areas. & the spider itself has excellent camoflage!

honestly spiderwebs are fascinating. spidersilk has incredible biomedical implications AND could be useful in construction, though figuring out the chemisty of the silk is still giving ppl trouble. spiderwebs have been used as wound dressing for centuries though & some spiders have as many as 6 different spinnarets that produce different types of silk for different tasks 😄

oh and as a note, when i did those two drawings that are in the final image that have the braid going something and continuing at the other end, i still did the zig-zag all the way in the sketch, just to make sure it all lined up, but really that’s just an extra detail that isn’t necessary.

It is a torpedo-shaped ship with fins at the back and a string emerging from the nose, leading to a huge spiderweb shape which goes off the edges of the page in every direction. The nose of the ship is patterned with a checkerboard pattern and has some sort of geometric shapes protruding forwards from it. The belly of the ship is encircled by a sort of collar, out of which extend six spokes. At the end of each spoke is a cylindrical pod. There are arrows drawn around it to indicate that the whole structure of collar, spokes and pods is rotating clockwise around the ship. The drawing is heavily annotated in neat cursive handwriting - the labels are as below]

The note pointing to the tail of the ship says "limited rocket propulsion for intra-system manoeuvring"

The note pointing to the pods (partially obscured by a pin) says "Living pods rotating around the core to generate low gravity. One crew member lives in each pod" (obviously this was done in 2011 when the band was 7 people, not 9)

The note pointing to the nose of the ship says "Gribblies (Nastya's fault)" I have no idea what that means.

The note pointing to the ship's body says "core of Aurora, an ancient Cyberian battle cruiser, now predominantly engine space as [unclear..."allowed"?] by Nastya, but also contains the bridge and some other communal areas; also Gunpowder Tim's guns. Zero gravity."

The note on the webbing says "Sun-sail (biomechanical semi-sentient spiders maintain this web of metallic fibres 100s km square). Can collapse, be angled etc"

The note in the bottom left says "Average speed: 1% speed of light"

From this what you should take is while we continue to respect Nastya's performer's wishes to not be identified, we all know they're the biggest nerd in the band and that's saying a LOT
