“Well, you know, we smoked a little dope. But by that time, you know, everybody pretty much realized you can’t smoke too much dope and do your work. There’s really a limit.” - Peter Tork, The Courier News, March 11, 2001 Q: “OK, we’re dying to know. What was the ‘big black box’?” Davy Jones: “The Monkees had this big black box that was built at the back of the studio. We used to have little dressing rooms on the studio floor, but we used to make too much noise in them, so they put us at the back in this big meat-freezer sort of thing with double-soundproofing. We each had our own room within it. Whenever (the director) wanted one of us, there’d be a light in the corner of each room. If they wanted Peter, they’d buzz that one.” Micky Dolenz: “My room was done kind of like some sort of Egyptian tent, I guess. If I remember correctly, it was, like, shag carpet, that deep shag carpet, and it was really thick. I had pillows in it, big cushions, just on the floor. No furniture. And candles, I think. And a secret door that you had to know the combination to, and it opened backwards, or something silly like that. Very low light. That kind of thing.” Peter Tork: “That was where we hung out and could play our guitar real loud and smoke a little dope and get smoochy with our girlfriends. It was our getaway. Because at any given time, four or five dozen members of the public would be on the set — prize winners who came to the set to watch the Monkees shoot for a day or something.” - ibid “They gave us a refrigerated box. We could indulge in cannabis and related substances. Micky pokes the thing and says, ‘El Zoomo.’ We thought saying, ‘Oh, look, a marijuana cigarette,’ was far and away hipper. Bob was concerned just saying marijuana on a movie was enough to get us in trouble.” - Peter Tork, Shindig Magazine, 2010 “My opinion on marijuana is that it should be, if not exactly legalized, at least decriminalized. There remains a certain attitude among the ruling class that seeks to punish rather than include. As for myself, I recommend not smoking it (or putting it in brownies, etc.). When I’m with anyone who smokes it, they go away, and I’m alone, whether they’re there or not. I believe it delays life, as, I believe, does alcohol. You could not have convinced me of this when I was smoking it, but I am sure of that now. But I am also certain that those who want to smoke it will, and I see no public interest in spending valuable police and court time on the matter, nor do I see any public interest in coercing people into getting on with their lives; they just rebel all the harder, as I did myself, and it was actually a useful time in my life, in the long run.” - Peter Tork, Ask Peter Tork, 2008

Behind the scenes during the filming of Head, 1968.

“The first thing I heard was Mike, ‘All I can say is, “Man, am I in pain!”’ And you could that he was, so the director yelled, ‘OK bring ‘em down and let’s see if we can adjust those things.’‘Those things’ were harnessed attached around their waists to enable them to seemingly fly through the air. […] ‘Shoot’ yelled the director and Mike, Micky and Peter began flailing while two men shoved the huge hose down past them in a gigantic rush of noise. ‘Wow, was that wild’ exclaimed Micky. ‘Well, it scared the #%&$# out of me,’ groaned Mike. I have to admit the whole thing was rather frightening, but the director seemed intent on making the guys do it themselves rather than using stand-ins. All four of them do almost all of their own stunt work in the movie. […] I kept watching Mike, wondering how much more he’d be able to take, until finally they let him down for a few minutes rest. Peter and Micky seemed OK; but Mike looked like he felt awful. […] Mike picks up a large cigarette butt and says ‘Well, it’s not one of your standard brands.’ This line turned out to be quite a problem as they argue over how to deliver the line — should it be obvious what they are talking about or subtle. Mike wanted to do it like W.C. Fields, one of the all time great comedians and one of Mike’s idols, would have done it, but he and the director couldn’t seem to agree. At one point, Peter seemed about to reach the breaking point of his patience, when he suddenly walked to the end of the set, stomped up and down once, shouted, took a deep breath, turned and said ‘OK, I’m ready.’I learned later that Peter was actually feeling quite bad also. A week earlier he had had an abscessed tooth, which had swollen up one whole side of his face and they hadn’t had time for him to take a week off and wait for it to go back down, so he’d had the infected tooth removed without missing a day of work. On top of this, he felt a cold coming on and was stuffing down cold tablets all day. Abren convocatoria para programa 'Zoomos Voluntarios'

NUEVO LAREDO, TAM.- El Zoológico y Acuario de Nuevo Laredo lanzó una convocatoria para que estudiantes de medicina veterinaria formen parte del programa “Zoomos Voluntarios”, El director del Zoológico y Acuario, Daniel del Fierro Cárdenas mencionó que la recepción de solicitudes de los aspirantes es desde este 29 de enero al 2 febrero de 10:00 de la mañana a 5:00 de la tarde, en cualquiera de los recintos antes mencionados. “Es una nueva alternativa para darle el espacio a los jóvenes que desarrollen actividades orientándose a la profesión que están estudiando, es una oportunidad para que tengan la manera de interactuar con ejemplares, ellos van a tener la experiencia”, mencionó del Fierro Cárdenas, director. Algunas de las actividades que aprenderán son el manejo de ejemplares, medicaciones, desparasitaciones, curaciones. Además obtendrán aprendizaje sobre cada especie, temas de conservación y la importancia de los ejemplares.
