really glad they make a reference to spider geddon in the prequel sm2 comic and basically set up the whole spiderverse thing too, it makes the timeline a lil more clearer

Me trying to convince everyone that Phin and Harry are very similar in the way they are both Spider-Man's best friends who end up turning on him, and msm2 could've perfectly tied sm:mm into things by having Miles' big reason for wanting to save Harry be because the whole situation just reminds him of Phin and he doesn't want Peter to go through the same pain of losing a friend like a he did (I'm just looking for reasons to associate my two favorite characters with each other)

Okay so, some of the SM2 dust settled and I'm not gonna do a full breakdown of the story, I just wanna express some general feelings I've had.

I think, and call me crazy, that there was a lot more corporate meddling hence some of the very questionable choices - Miles' suit with Adidas shoes. Like. I saw someone call the suit a "walking billboard" and I couldn't agree more. Not to mention they introduced it at the most inappropriate time during a fucking apocalypse. And he called it a "Miles Morales original" even tho the entirety of his standalone game was all about stepping out of Peter's shadow. I get they were most likely working on the games at the same time, but do the writing teams not communicate with each other? Now SM:MM feels almost obsolete because of that line. This whole scene was an advertisement and it almost ruins the moment when Peter opens up to Miles. What the hell was the point?

The whole game feels...off. And that's mainly because most of the writers were different people, you can check it on IMBD. The first game felt like a passion project, this game felt more like they were going through a checklist of "big things" that needed to happen. Like, I'm not saying it's bad, because the game has a lot of great moments, but it's not on the same level as the first one. Like I said, it feels more corporate while the first game was clearly more of "okay we're gonna give you the IP and see what happens" and since the first game was such a success, they've had more suits breathing down their necks. I wouldn't put it past Sony that they've had them on a tighter leash. Because that's how it happens in the entertainment industry - a passion project becomes successful, the suits/investors see an opportunity to earn more money, give the creatives less freedom, and that's how we usually get the generic Hollywood slop.

I don't hate the game's story, it just feels clunky and less heartfelt compared to the first game. You can especially feel it during the third act, there was barely any breathing room and the player kept getting bombarded by big moments that were difficult to digest. The story needed to be a couple of hours longer, it felt undercooked and things kept happening too fast. It's still hard for me to believe that the events of the game happened in the span of a few days. Peter's corruption felt too fast too. Compare it to Otto's slow descent into villainy. Yeah. Why not make the events in the span of two-three weeks? Why days? To me, it's such an odd choice.

And a lot of relationships felt underdeveloped too - especially Harry and Norman's, which was supposed to be important to the story. Then, Norman suddenly calls Peter his son even though they barely interacted? And maybe I missed it (or forgot), but I haven't seen MJ and Peter talk about the fact that he almost killed her when he was out of control? < you can dispute this, because I genuinely can't recall them having a conversation about this. In fact, I forgot a lot of things, because too many things happened in this game.

tl;dr - story isn't bad, it needed more time in the oven and less Adidas advertisement

spider-man: miles morales rant about peter’s new model under the cut

honestly the only thing i’ve had a gripe with is Peter’s model being changed. like i get it, make him look more like Tom bc he’s the current big spider-person in media but like. i feel like the previous model fit so much better and not just bc i have a huge preference for Andrew’s Peter but also bc,,,,

this Peter is supposed to be an adult. a full grown, experienced hero who’s been doing the job for a while, is in his prime and is good at what he does, good enough, even, to mentor the new generation of Spider Man: Miles.

Peter shouldn’t have that boyish face, he should have the tired eyes and the wild hair that Spider Man PS4 originally gave him. it fits better for a character who’s supposed to be this professional type hero.

and yeah i get it, Avengers tower is there which means it makes sense that Tom’s Peter should be this Peter too, but. firstly, this Peter knows and is friends with Harry Osborn. Tom’s Peter doesn’t even know what an Oscorp is (yet). but this Peter?

He lost Ben, he’s had his childhood friends ripped away from him in various ways, has had to constantly avoid his childhood friend’s father who also happens to be mayor, has been public enemy No. 1 and beaten by a government agency hellbent on killing him and detaining anyone who protects or stands up for him, almost lost his (ex)girlfriend to a bunch of Literal Demons, fought a guy who was mutated by the mayor, fought off multiple Big Bads (six if I counted right) all before ever even having to think about the fact that his mentor/boss/new father figure has been supplying these new Big Bads (+ 1 literal demon) with new weaponry and actively trying to kill both him and the mayor. This Peter is experienced, he’s a pro, he may suck at Peter Parker stuff sometimes but god is he a great Spider Man. He goes through having to brutally rip apart his and his mentor’s life project before also having to rip apart his mentor’s heart and completely cut him out of his life before sending him to the Raft to rot. This Peter isn’t a child, he isn’t immature, he’s fucking Spider Man and damnit, he knows it.

not to mention that at the end of the first game, he also loses May. That should age him even further and yet,,,, they made him look remarkably younger. it just feels Off, y’know? like the new model shouldn’t be at the point in his life that game Peter is in, he should be like. just coming out of high school with a face like that, not already graduated with student debt up to his webs. he just feels too… soft. too inexperienced. especially for someone who’s been mentoring an Actual Inexperienced Kid™️

as of the end of SM:MM miles has truly come into his own and has become entirely confident in his abilities and in his role as spider-man. peter most likely doesn’t have anything left to teach him and is going to transition from a mentor to being on equal ground with miles. judging just from the end of his game, miles is already quickly losing his desire to impress or prove himself to peter.

i really hope we get to see miles interacting with peter as close friends, maybe even having a sibling type relationship. i’d love for miles to casually badger and tease peter as a result of how comfortable he’s become as his teammate, and also vice versa!!!

peter’s always taken his self-appointed role as a protector/provider to his loved ones seriously, this is obvious in how he and mj broke up because he went too far to the point of treating mj like she’s entirely helpless. so when they first met, immediately after miles's dad's death (which peter blamed himself for), peter stepped up to be the strong supportive adult that miles needed at that time.

but miles doesn’t need that from peter, not anymore. i feel like peter’s gonna have a shifted dynamic with miles once he really settles into the fact that miles doesn’t need him but still wants him to be around. peter will probably drift into more of a big brother role. like, ofc he'd do anything for miles, but also he would absolutely go out of his way to annoy the shit out of miles just for fun.
