I now feel safe saying that if Wyneer's mod gets finished there is a 95% chance he will be released to the public workshop.

(Of course that relies on me finishing him)

I don't know if I'll ever finish the other characters I began to mod because I'd like to move on to original projects, but people seem to really like Wickham so I'd probably let people play them too if I pick up their mod again. The circumstances that originally made them impossible to mod are actually not applicable any more, but it still relies on me being able to do art! So! We'll see!!

Short answer: extremely unlikely my mods will be public.

Long answer: the possibility of waking up one day and seeing “Don’t Starve OP WYNEER GUIDE” in my recommended videos with 20k views is a nightmare scenario that would make me want to wade into the ocean and never return.

Longer answer: I put my whole ass into making my little freaks, but I make them for me. I think if I made them public and they somehow became even slightly popular, I would get very stressed out by feedback that would ask me to change aspects about the character I enjoy (like difficulty.)

Wyneer especially is very personal to me, but he is cringe. It is in his nature to be cringe. I have seen enough shit online to know people would take him at face value and think that I was also cringe, when I am in on the joke and doing it on purpose.

Also his code is very bad. I cannot allow his mod to fall into the hands of anyone competent enough at coding to realise how fucked up he is.

Maybe one day I’ll make a fork of my mods that have better coding, more optimised stuff, and have some of these elements sanded off. I really don’t like being percieved by people in any capacity so it totally depends.

But I could also just force everyone who wants to play Wyneer to add me on Steam and play DST with me by holding him hostage and that is infinitely funnier.

How are you surviving the sprite redraws with carpal tunnel and over 1000 pics to recreate man (/genq)

I take very long breaks and draw only when the pain in my hand is mild. I think I remade basic Wyneer's sprites doing a little bit at a time over like... five or so days?? And it took me like two weeks until I felt good enough to draw again. Unfortunately my job is very demanding on my hands so my default is pain and I just try not to make it worse.

(If you ever have carpal tunnel, buy a wrist splint - not a shitty fabric artist glove one, a real medical one with a metal support in it to angle your palm upwards - and sleep in that fucker. It makes such a huge difference.)

I have the workload Wyneer split up in such a way that I feel physically/mentally okay committing to redrawing him. It's like this:

Redraw Wyneer's basic sprites

Make placeholders for the masks using their old art + Wyneer's new art

Redraw the mask who needs new art for a gameplay thing (<- WE ARE HERE)

Then the masks who have tweaked designs (Boutey and Saffron)

Then the masks who have fugly art (Crimson and Lay)

Then the masks who look ok but old (Blake and Azure)

I'm going to work on the masks one by one and just push their new art when they get done, even if I only do one every few weeks. Once Boutey and Saffron are done I don't care so much about the rest. I also decided last night that Nightmare and Radiant look so good still I will probably not even redraw them, which removes A LOT OF SPRITES from the equation.

Believe me, if anything holds up his mod and makes me want to die it is not the art, it is the strings. Getting to do sprites again is fun compared to writing the masks saying something slightly different about the same thing a dozen times.

Wyneer's face got reposessed by the Taking Your Wish Too Literally and Fulfilling it Ironically™ police (read: Maxwell, accidentally) but boy's gotta eat. It turns out when your face is made out of nightmare fuel that's a whole lot of real estate where a mouth can go!

Also, thank you for asking about my health! I really wish I had something positive to say about that - I was actually going to make a post about my absence but I was waiting for news first. I still don't have news, but I'm going to answer this ask now under a readmore so that I don't look dead.

While I'm going to omit a lot of information this post is kind of a downer.

I'm not going to get into specifics because it was pretty awful, but my health over the course of 2024 deteriorated pretty badly. I was busy with getting promoted at work and trying to manage my carpal tunnel getting much worse (both bc it got bad and bc I had an injection to treat it that somehow made the pain in my hand 10x worse), so I kind of just... didn't realise how sick I was getting?? Until about May/June where I kind of hit a wall where I was like "wow, this weird illness I am ignoring is becoming really hard to ignore!"

IRL was busy and stressful so... I put off going to the doctor for months. I have a history of developing intolerances to new things suddenly so I figured something was making me sick and kept experimenting with removing things from my diet and environment until my health improved. We thought we found it - we suspected I was celiac for a bit, but, uh...

Ironically days after finally going to the doctor to get my symptoms checked out, I got woken up at 4am by what felt like something in my gut exploding and I ended up in the hospital. They kept me there for a week then discharged me because 1. while I was in extreme pain I evidently wasn't dying 2. in the process of getting misdiagnosed I got triaged to a hospital that didn't have a gastroenterology department and they had no means to diagnose or treat me.

We still don't actually know what is wrong, we've only narrowed it down; I've been on a waiting list to see someone about it since December. I'm in a lot of pain 24/7, have a lot of nasty symptoms, and feel lethargic all of the time. It sucks. I don't really have the energy to draw or make posts.

I really wish I had a happier answer for you. I'm sorry. But uh, that's the gist of why my blog has been extremely quiet.

On the bright side, I stopped working on my DST stuff pretty much the entirety of 2024, but back in December I picked modding back up and it's been fun. I'm very excited about it. I've just been too tired to make posts - I do want to get back into that at some point though.

If I get a prognosis that indicates that my absence is going to be lengthier I will probably make a post about it.

Left is correct he has to shove it up his mask. ""Thankfully"" because his face underneath is messed up it can become a gaping shadowy maw large enough to accomidate live prey any food. We know Amber processes things faster, but do they process them right?

Good question! Usually not. LOL.

For the uninformed, Amber's orange gem magic causes them to percieve the world as being half as slow as would be normally. You'd think this would be a good thing, but it actually sucks, as Amber can't turn this ability off.

Amber is prone to things like only listening to the first half of what you have to say and guessing the rest because they got bored of waiting for you, or becoming complacent and getting hit by something they shouldn't have because they overestimate their body's ability to move in time with their brain, or kneejerk reacting too quickly to a situation and making it worse... etc. They frequently have only one job and do it wrong. They get that part from Crimson.

Amber is best used for slowing down other things so normal Survivors can deal with them, because Amber's unfortunately human attention span is sandbagging them so hard that you can hardly notice they have any advantage at all.

If you insult them about it, though, they'll suddenly be super competent and reliable, for precisely as long as it takes them to think "heh, sure showed that guy" and then they will return to their normal self. They get that part from Saffron.
