RHETTA HUGHES "Angel Man' (Aria 12"' AR1207) Produced by Ken Lehman Ms. Hughes has developed a considerable cult following in the black and gay communities both from her role in the hit show "Dreamgirls" and from the song "Throwing It All Away" a hard to find and well loved sleaze classic. Now back with a new single, she seems on the verge of stardom. The song (124 BPM) a hymn to the self help group the Guardian Angels avoids the cliches that might detract from a fine al around performance. Rhetta Hughes sings with such firm conviction, you know and feel that she believes every word. She has the voice of a star, period. The production by Kenny Lehman is perfection personified. All the right twists and turns, breaks and chants. It is exciting disco, like it used to be before we had computers do the handclapping on all the radio records. This one has a formula all its own...
