People who ship green flame don't understand that it's not just the age gap, but it's the relationship. Kai is an older brother to lloyd in every aspect of their relationship. Kai guided and looked after lloyd in the way an older sibling would. it doesn't matter if the age gap "isn't that bad now" just because both parties are 18+ in dragons rising and what not doesn't mean it's perfectly normal and acceptable yall need to understand that a leader and a guide has a power inbalance. Kai has alot more experience with life and taught and guided lloyd through that. Lloyd, even if he's wiser and knows more about life then he did, doesn't mean he's on the same mental or mature level as Kai. Yall scare me because I don't want yall to ever be groomed and having a relationship like Kai and Lloyd's relationship is very groomy if romantic. To respect someone and love someone you also shouldn't look up to that much. Even people who are 18+ still get groomed by older people they looked too in times of need.

Summary: you and mitsuya had been friends for years and finnaly act on your feelings. Unfortunately you're both dense and even your friends are tired of you...
My first time posting...
Everyone is like 18-21, implied that its both of their first times, no smut but they hook up and mituya straight up says "we hooked up."
Draken and emma are in love bc EYE love them sm💔. Also its just most of the people that are close to mitsuya bc I cant write multiple characters without it getting confusing. (I made them tipsy bc I didnt want TOO much confusion and controversy over them being drunk😭)
------
You never really planned to get tipsy with Mitsuya. The night had started like every other gathering, the gang seemed to have loud voices, too much food, and a little too much competition over pool tables in a cramped back alley bar that definitely wasn't checking IDs.
You were perched on a worn leather stool, half listening to Senju argue with Smiley about who had the better reflexes. Emma was beside you, sipping something fruity with a smug little smile like she already knew a secret.
Mitsuya sat across the table, leaned back with his arm draped casually over the back of the booth, smiling at something Hakkai said. He looked so unfair. Lavender hair catching the low amber light, white t-shirt hugging his shoulders, a faint smirk every time he caught you looking.
yeah, unfair.
You looked away fast, pretending to study your glass. "You're doing that thing again." Emma murmured without looking up from her drink.
You frowned. "What thing?"
"The Mitsuya thing." She took another slow sip. "Eyes on him, he looks at you, then you whip your head away like you've been caught stealing."
"I don't-" you started, but Senju slid in on your other side before you could finish.
"You totally do," Senju grinned, already stealing one of the lemon slices from your drink. “Also, he's been watching you, so maybe just skip the 'pretend not to care' stage tonight."
You rolled your eyes, but the words stuck in your chest. You weren’t going to "skip stages" just because your friends wanted to play matchmaker. Mitsuya was your teammate, part of your friend group, getting involved with him was messy territory.
But then the drinks kept coming. Not enough to blur the night, but enough to soften the edges.
It was late when you both ended up outside, leaning against the brick wall of the alley, laughing about something stupid Mitsuya had said about Smiley's hair products. Your head felt light, your cheeks warm.
"You’re perfect when you laugh like that." he said. Just casual enough to pass for a joke, if it weren’t for the way his eyes lingered.
You blinked at him. "You've been drinking."
"So have you." His voice was steady though, and that was the problem, he sounded sober when he said it, like he'd been holding it back for years and now it just slipped out.
The space between you closed too fast to remember which one of you moved first. His hand was warm on your waist, the other braced against the wall near your head. His mouth tasted faintly like lime and something sweeter, and you didn’t care enough to figure out what.
Your hands found his shirt, tugging him closer. There was heat, a little desperation, two people trying to memorize something they thought they might never have again.
By the time you pulled away, both of you were breathing hard, the world still spinning but not from the alcohol.
"Should we...?" he started, and you knew exactly where he was going.
"Yes." you said before you could talk yourself out of it.
It wasn't a one night stand in the technical sense. You woke up in your own bed but the memory of his hands on you, his weight against you, the way his breath hitched when you whispered his name. It all felt too vivid for you to pretend it hadn’t happened.
And yet, something gnawed at you. The way he’d gone quiet after, his smile a little too polite. You started replaying every second, convinced maybe you hadn't been good enough. Maybe he regretted it.
You found Emma and Senju the next day, dragging them into Emma's room and shutting the door like it was a classified meeting.
Emma's brows rose when she saw your face. "Oh my god. You did do the mitsuya thing!"
Senju grinned. "Wait-you hooked up?"
You groaned into your hands. "We were tipsy, okay? It just... happened. And now I'm pretty sure he thinks I was terrible or something. He barely said anything afterward!"
Emma exchanged a look with Senju. "You're overthinking."
"Am I? He didn't even text me, and at the meeting earlier, he barely looked at me."
Senju tilted her head. "Maybe he's the one overthinking."
You shook your head. "Nope. He's just being polite because we're in the same friend group. I'm gonna avoid him until this whole thing dies in my head."
The girls sighed but didn't argue.
Across town, Mitsuya sat on his couch with Hakkai and Draken, staring at a bottle of water with the same anxious loop in his head.
"I think I messed it up." he said finally.
Hakkai frowned. "Messed what up?"
"With her." Mitsuya rubbed the back of his neck. "We hooked up last night and... I don’t know. She was quiet afterward. I'm pretty sure she wasn't into it. I probably ruined everything."
Draken stared at him for a moment before snorting. "You're an idiot."
"She's our friend." Mitsuya shot back. "I'm not gonna push it if she didn’t like it. I"ll just... keep my distance."
And so the great unspoken cold war began.
You started skipping hangouts, sending excuses to group chats about "homework" or "helping family." When you couldn't avoid meetings, you stayed on the far side of the room, eyes fixed anywhere but on him.
And Mitsuya, true to his own vow, gave you space. Which only made you more certain you’d been right, he regretted it.
Emma noticed. Of course she noticed. And when she cornered Mitsuya one afternoon, she got nothing but vague answers and a frustratingly polite smile. That's when she decided she was done watching the two of you be stupid.
Emma didn't mean to tell Draken. Well okay, that’s a lie. She didn’t mean to spill it out loud at first.
It happened when she was leaning against his bike while he tightened a bolt on the handlebars, chatting idly. You weren't answering her texts, again, which meant you were probably hiding in your room avoiding Mitsuya like he was contagious.
"She's driving me insane." Emma muttered, not even realizing she’d spoken aloud.
Draken glanced up. "Who?"
"Y/N. She's...ugh, never mind."
He smirked faintly. "This about the thing with Mitsuya?"
Emma froze. "...What do you know?"
Draken chuckled. "Enough to know they're both being dramatic. Mitsuya's been moping for weeks thinking he wasn' good enough for her."
Her head snapped up. "Wait What?"
"Yeah. Said she seemed quiet after and he figured she regretted it. So he's been giving her space." Draken shrugged like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Guess she's been doing the same?"
Emma blinked. Then she pressed her palm to her forehead. "Oh my god. They're both dumb."
The next meeting was at a warehouse near the river. Neutral ground, plenty of space. You'd already planned your avoidance tactics: stick with Senju, keep your head down, leave early.
Except Senju "forgot" to show and so did most of the usual buffer friends. Which left you walking in to find the only empty seat directly beside Mitsuya.
Emma was grinning like she'd swallowed the sun.
You hesitated in the doorway. "You planned this."
She gave an innocent blink. "Me? Never."
Draken's smirk from across the room told you exactly who her co conspirator was.
You sat down stiffly, keeping your eyes on the table. Mitsuya shifted slightly, his knee brushing yours under the table. You moved away an inch. He moved away too, as if afraid to crowd you. The silence between you was deafening.
Finally, you muttered, "You don’t have to act like I'm made of glass."
He turned his head toward you. "I thought you didn't want me near you."
You blinked. "What? I thought you didn't want to be near me."
His brows drew together. "Why would you think that?"
"You barely talked to me after that night," you said, your voice low so the others wouldn't overhear. "I figured you regretted it. Or I wasn't..." You trailed off, suddenly wishing you could dissolve into the floor. "good."
He stared at you like you'd just spoken another language. "I thought I was bad, That I disappointed you."
Your jaw dropped. "Wait, you were avoiding me because you thought I didn't like it?"
He let out a short, incredulous laugh. "We're idiots."
You swallowed. "Yeah. Apparently." You fiddled with your hands, not quite meeting his eyes. "So you didn't think I was ugly or something?"
His head snapped toward you. "What? No. I've been in love with you since like sixth grade.”
You froze. "What?"
His eyes widened, like he'd just realized what he'd said. "I didn’t mean to-"
"Wait me too!" you blurted.
Now it was his turn to blink at you. "...what?"
You both stared at each other, and then, because there was really no other option, you started laughing. Quiet at first, then louder, until Emma shot you a curious look from across the room.
You walked out together afterward, the tension replaced by something softer, warmer. "So," Mitsuya said, hands in his pockets. "We’re both terrible at communicating."
You smirked. "At least we’re terrible together."
He smiled at that, and for the first time in weeks, you felt like you could breathe.
As you reached the corner, he paused. "Hey, wanna come over? No drinking this time. Just talking. Maybe some sewing, if you don't mind fabric all over the floor."
You raised a brow. "Is that a date?"
His grin widened. "Yeah. It's a date."
If Emma and Draken happened to watch you two walk away together with smug satisfaction... well, you'd deny they had anything to do with it.
Extras:
You'd barely been dating Mitsuya a week when Emma and Senju cornered you at the café near the station.
Emma was stirring her iced latte with an unnecessary amount of smugness. "So… sewing night, huh?"
You sipped your drink without looking at her. "It was nice."
Senju leaned forward, grinning. "Nice like, 'he finally kissed me again and I almost cried’ nice, or nice like 'we're practically married now' nice?"
You rolled your eyes, but the heat creeping into your cheeks probably gave you away. "Both. Maybe."
Emma’s smirk widened. "We told you he liked you. You just had to avoid him for three weeks and be miserable first."
"Yeah." Senju added with mock solemnity. "A true masterclass in romance."
You groaned, hiding your face in your hands. "I hate both of you."
"Sure you do." Emma said, sipping her drink. "Anyway, Draken says Mitsuya's been grinning like an idiot every day since. So...you’re welcome."
Senju nudged you under the table. "Bet he's been in love with you since sixth grade, huh?"
You peeked at her between your fingers, unable to hide the smile spreading across your face. "Yeah. Guess so."
Emma and Senju high-fived like they'd just won a championship.
It was a slow afternoon at the shop when Draken, Hakkai, and Smiley dropped by.
They were half there for Mitsuya's company, half there for the free snacks he always kept in the back.
Draken leaned against the workbench. "So... heard you and Y/N finally stopped being idiots."
Mitsuya didn't look up from the jacket he was stitching. "Guess so."
Smiley barked a laugh. "Guess so? Bro, you've been crushing on her since middle school. That’s like-ten years of pining."
"It's not pining if you make clothes for her." Mitsuya said with a faint smirk.
Hakkai blinked. "Wait. you've been making her clothes this whole time?"
"Yeah." Mitsuya said simply, knotting the thread. "She just thought I was practicing. I was. But also... you know."
Draken shook his head with a grin. "Man. All that avoiding each other for nothing."
Mitsuya finally looked up, the corner of his mouth lifting. "Wasn't nothing. She said she's been in love with me since sixth grade too."
Smiley let out a sharp whistle. "You're both disgustingly cute."
Hakkai groaned. "This is going to be so annoying now, isn’t it?"
"Yup." Mitsuya said, turning back to his stitches. But his grin didn’t fade once.
