This blog is for recording my journey as I explore technology in relation to magic, and witchcraft. My tech journey actually began several years ago, but has become more interesting lately, so I thought it a good idea to document it. I used to be a technophobe, I started out as a bit of a hippie, living in forests, with no tech or electricity. Later, when I had electricity I refused to get a computer or the internet until finally I needed to for a job I no longer do. Realizing what a great tool the internet was for magical information, I began contemplating what including technology in my magical practices would look like.

About a month ago I decided to learn programming so I could level up my electronics journey, and am currently enjoying the roller coaster ride of learning to program microcontrollers. Although I have many ideas that I wish to develop, I first chose to co-create a magic mirror device with a witch named Eryk.
This is a small handheld electronic device that looks like a little scrying mirror, but when powered up, the mirror reveals a face that talks to you. You can ask it a yes or no question, which it will answer, and it has a divination mode, where you can ask a more specific question or obtain a general fortune.
I am still troubleshooting the hardware, which includes an ESP32, an OLED display and a DFPlayer mini. I started with an Arduino and a small OLED and everything was working well until I hit the memory limit of the Arduino. I upgraded to an ESP32, which I had to adjust my code to, and then decided to upgrade again to a slightly larger OLED. Along the way I somehow acquired almost as many electronic components as there are trees in my forest.

About 5 years ago I began exploring fringe magic that included electronics, like radionics. I taught myself basic electronics so I could build a radionic device. I learnt about frequency, amplitude, radio waves, antennas and more. I found out that natural systems and living things also produced the 'magic' of radionics. Things like static magnetic fields, DC electricity and 'radio waves', and all of these can be used to heal people, animals and plants, and to make and enhance magic. I made my first radionic-style device, complete with an atrocious mess of wiring. It worked amazingly well, and I continued to study electronics, creating my Psionic Wand, which I probably should have named the photonic wand, as it uses light to channel and amplify the practitioner's magic.
