At Mastercard’s AGM this morning, the far-left groups SumOfUs and Sleeping Giants circled the venue with a mobile billboard stating: “Putting hate groups out of business? #Priceless.”

According to a press release published by the two organizations, this was coupled with a speech from Sleeping Giants co-founder Nandini Jammi, “addressing the need for Mastercard to take swift action by cutting off its services to these hate groups.”

Over time, Sleeping Giants expanded its targets to encompass any conservative media with which its organizers politically disagree, including  Fox News shows like Tucker Carlson Tonight , The Daily Caller, Dennis Prager, and the Daily Wire.

SumOfUs is purportedly a “human rights” activist group that now campaigns to make speech with which it politically disagrees unprofitable. Its website lists a number of powerful left-wing foundations among its partners, including George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, the Tides Foundation, the Media Democracy Fund, and the Rockefeller Brothers Foundation.

Earlier this year,  SumOfUs presented a proposal to Mastercard’s shareholders , calling on the company to establish a “human rights committee” that would monitor payments to the “far right.” The protest aimed to pressure Mastercard to accept the proposal. Shareholders  voted down  the proposal this morning, despite the protest.

“Over the past few years, the rise of the far-right has wreaked havoc around the world, terrorizing and harming marginalized groups,” wrote SumOfUs in its press release.

Mastercard also pressured a payment processor to  cut off service  to conservative activist, think tank founder and author David Horowitz last year, but later the processor  reinstated service  following pressure from Breitbart News and other conservative media.

As left-wing political activist groups have pressured social media companies to blacklist their political rivals, they are also intent on destroying the ability of the political right to do business on the Internet. The  rise of financial blacklisting  has been a trend in recent years, with repeated instances online payment processors and funding platforms cutting off their services to right-wingers and conservatives.

Chase, one of America’s big four retail banks, has withdrawn service from a number of conservatives in recent weeks, amid a rise in financial blacklisting by payment processors and credit card companies.

Martina Markota, a video host for the conservative news website Rebel Media, reported on social media that Chase sent her a letter earlier this month stating that it would terminate service to her business, Magnum Opus Productions LLC, which is linked to her graphic novel, “Lady Alchemy.”

Last week, independent reporter, Army combat veteran and purple heart recipient Joe Biggs reported that Chase closed his account. Biggs  told One America News  that while the bank later agreed to resume services to him, it was only in the aftermath of social media backlash from the Trump-supporting veteran’s followers.

Earlier this month, Chase’s online payment processor withdrew service from  1776.shop , an online store run by Enrique Tarrio, the American of African and Cuban descent leader of the right-wing Proud Boys organization. Chase Banks subsequently sent Tarrio a letter informing him that they would shut down his personal account as well, giving him until the first of April to move his funds and automated payments to a different bank.

In addition to the bank’s withdrawal of service, Tarrio says he has also been banned from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Airbnb, and Firstdata, as well as from payment processors PayPal, Square, and Stripe.

These moves by Chase come amid a rise in politically motivated denials of service by credit cards, payment processors and online funding platforms.

In August, Mastercard and Discover  blacklisted conservative and Islam critic Robert Spencer. In the same month, Visa and Mastercard ceased service to David Horowitz. While credit card processing service to Horowitz was eventually restored, Spencer remains financially blacklisted.

Online funding platform Patreon triggered a user boycott late last year when they withdrew service from the popular critic of progressivism Carl Benjamin, aka Sargon of Akkad. Numerous high-profile users of the platform including Sam Harris, Dave Rubin and Jordan Peterson quit the platform in protest. It later emerged that Patreon’s anticipation of credit card companies’ objections played a key role in its decision.

Many of the companies involved in the rise of financial blacklisting have faced a sustained campaign by left-wing agitators including the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and Color of Change urging them to withdraw service from conservatives and Trump supporters. The former was allegedly responsible for the blacklisting of Robert Spencer, while the latter claims to have removed 158 funding sources  from “white supremacist sites” — although as the group didn’t publicly name the allegedly “white supremacist” sites. The far left typically smears regular Trump supporters with the label.

The David Horowitz Freedom Center stated in a recent email that its ability to accept donations by credit card has been disabled by both Visa and Mastercard following a campaign by the SPLC to label the Freedom Center as a hate group. This situation comes shortly after Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch was  forced off the funding platform Patreon  following pressure from Mastercard.

The Freedom Center is the next target of the SPLC, and they are using Mastercard and Visa again in their attempt to shut down conservative voices.

In the email to supporters, the Freedom Center lashed out at the move by Mastercard and Visa, saying: “this blow could be the end of the Freedom Center. Decades of work, down the drain because the hateful Left wants to squash free speech and silence an organization that dares to question them.

Breitbart News reached out to David Horowitz who provided the following comment:

We have been attacked by the left wing hate machine whose goal is to suppress and silence conservative voices. This is the work of a Soros funded Media Matters and Southern Poverty Law Center operation. It’s cynical, calculated and supported by the Democratic Party. The reason Mastercard and Visa gave us for cutting us off and thus sabotaging our online fund-raising operation is that the SPLC told them that we were a hate group. It is wrong to focus on the Tech heads as the culprits because as businessmen they have a vested interest in keeping their platforms politically neutral. They have been threatened by Senator Mark Warner and other Democrats if they don’t censor conservatives. The fact that Mastercard and Visa are now part of this juggernaut indicates how dangerous this has become.

3.  Verizon Wants to Sell Your Data to the NSA

Verizon has been  working hand-in-glove  with the NSA to monitor and collect the metadata of tens of millions of phone users. The surveillance  taking place under a top-secret court order that Edward Snowden exposed in 2013  gives the NSA information on all telephone calls, both within the U.S. and between U.S. residents and those of other countries.

Companies like Verizon collect these bulk records and hand them to the federal government  regardless of whether a phone user is suspected of any wrongdoing. Alongside AT&T and Sprint, Verizon receives  hundreds of millions of dollars  a year from the NSA in exchange for cooperating with this program.

4.  Verizon Wants to Censor Text Messages

In 2007, Verizon Wireless  blocked NARAL Pro-Choice America efforts  to use its mobile text-message program to communicate with NARAL members. Initially Verizon told NARAL that it had banned the messages for being "controversial and unsavory." After the blocking was  reported in the New York Times , the phone company backpedaled and lifted the ban. The text-message blocking was a simple glitch, a Verizon spokesman declared, and the company felt really, really bad about it.

5.  Verizon Wants to Block Competing Apps

In 2011,  Free Press and others  caught Verizon Wireless  blocking people from using tethering applications  on their phones. Verizon had asked Google to remove 11 free tethering applications from the Android marketplace.

Big Tech is increasingly making it impossible for Republican politicians to communicate with their constituents. In addition to social media censorship, leftists are trying to censor at the level of emails, text messages, and telecommunications infrastructure.

The Republican party is getting quicker at responding to political bias from tech companies. After studies showing that 70 percent of GOP text messages go straight to spam folders  compared  to just eight percent of Democratic messages, Republicans have introduced the  Political BIAS Emails Act . There are also a number of Republican bills targeting social media censorship, at both the federal and state level.

But leftists are already moving on to a new target: telecommunications infrastructure.

Telecom companies have already had an impact on national politics, with Verizon and AT&T briefly  shutting down  Trump’s campaign texts during the 2020 election, costing him millions of dollars. These conglomerates are vertically integrated, with the major companies also distributing Cable and Satellite TV. As with other concentrations of corporate power, the left hopes to use this to censor conservative viewpoints.

They specifically targeted Fox News, Newsmax, and the One America News Network. The letter concluded by asking asked what if they took “actions against a channel for using your platform to disseminate any disinformation” and “Are you planning to continue carrying Fox News, Newsmax, and OANN. . . both now and beyond any contract renewal date? If so, why?” The implied message was clear: if the distributors did not drop conservative networks, the Democrats would push for punitive regulation.

Instead of fighting back against this intimidation, many of the telecom giants played along with the Democrats’ false narrative. It  gave  $10 million to Black Lives Matter and made employees attend a particularly extreme corporate  Critical Race Theory training , which Gov. Ron DeSantis (R)  cited  as the reason to pass the STOP WOKE Act in Florida.

It tried to create its own media brand, Oath (later Verizon Media), which invested in left-wing social media sites such as Tumblr, pro-censorship tech sites like TechCrunch, which has repeatedly advocated for  more   tech   censorship ., and the far-left Huffington Post.

Under Verizon’s ownership, Huffington Post ran articles  complaining  of “disinformation” over text messages. Last year, Verizon sold Huffington Post to Buzzfeed, but it still is the  minority owner  of both publications as they call for  deplatforming  conservatives both from Cable. Verizon’s media business has since completely failed and sold Verizon Media to a private equity fund last year.

Nessa semana, o mesmo perfil de esquerda comemorou que a plataforma Apoia.se derrubou a conta do jornalista Bernardo P. Küster, que tinha recebia doações de dezenas de pessoa pela plataforma. Semanas atrás, esquerdistas comemoravam que a maior plataforma de cursos no Brasil, a Hotmart, informou que irá censurar conteúdos fora dos padrões e políticas da empresa, incluindo temas sensíveis e polêmicos politicamente.

Justificam sua campanha dizendo combater discurso de ódio e fake news, contudo, 1) não conseguem apontar o que é fake news, não há objeto caracterizado no suposto delito, que sequer existe tifipicado em lei, além disso, 2) não conseguem afastar de si o mesmos o “mesmo delito”, já que sobram exemplos de fake news que grandes veículos e grandes influenciadores de esquerda publicam e reverberam. Todavia, os que são de esquerda, não sofrem qualquer censura dessas elites que dominam o mundo.

Diante desse cenário, jamais a esquerda poderá dizer-se novamente a favor da liberdade e muito menos dizer que combatem o capitalismo, pois o monstro que a esquerda dizia que era o capitalismo é, na verdade, ainda mais perverso do que diziam, porém, esse monstro capitalista hoje é a própria esquerda.

Bribery Allegations in Wisconsin (2022)

A report by Wisconsin special counsel Michael Gableman released in March 2022 alleged violations of state law “prohibiting election bribery” committed by CTCL in the 2020 election.

CTCL distributed $10.1 million in COVID-19 “relief grants” to Wisconsin cities and a handful of counties, roughly 84 percent of which went to just 5 cities: Green Bay, Madison, Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha. These 5 cities were all won by Democrat Joe Biden.

The special counsel report, which calls these cities “The Zuckerberg 5,” notes that each municipality “entered into an agreement with [the] Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL)” to “[take] CTCL’s money to facilitate in-person and absentee voting within their respective city,” constituting election bribery “because the participating cities and public officials received private money to facilitate in-person or absentee voting within such a city.”

The coati is a Brazilian relative of the raccoon and, at one time according to Wikipedia, called the “Brazilian Aardvark” by some people. In 2008 “some people” referred to a New York teenager who added this alternate name to Wikipedia after mistaking the animal for an aardvark on a trip to Brazil. A New Yorker exposé revealed the hoax and the claim was removed. Before the removal, the bogus claim had appeared in numerous British news outlets (one being cited on Wikipedia in support of the alternate name), Swedish news , a book published by the University of Chicago, and a Scientific American blog.

Despite the New Yorkerexposing the fake information and subsequent reporting  of the hoax, the “Brazilian Aardvark” name persisted. It still appeared in local British press reports as well as the Guardian, the  third most-cited news source on Wikipedia. Most notably, the alternate name is provided in a 2017 academic study published by Brazilian scientific journal Iheringiain its zoological series. This was not the only time a Wikipedia hoax survived beyond its exposure and removal from the site.

In the article for diabetic neuropathy, an edit in 2007 added a fictitious condition called “Glucojasinogen” to the page. The bogus condition subsequently appeared in medical journals from Nigeria, India, and Iran. Following its removal, it appeared in another Indian medical journal, though none of these sources were cited to support the claim as it remained unsourced when it was removed.

Things Rush Limbaugh Never Said

Hoaxes have also been spread by Wikipedia’s sister site WikiQuote, which contained fake quotes attributed to conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh. Added back in 2005, the quotes included one praising Martin Luther King Junior’s assassin and another arguing slavery had merits. The quotes endured several months until an editor removed them, noting another quote was adapted from an Adolf Hitler quote. However, the quotes ended up in a blog post and two later ended up in a 2006 book by Jack Huberman. The bogus quotes were restored in 2008 citing the Huberman book and became the subject of repeated edit wars.

When Limbaugh became part of a bid to acquire the St. Louis Rams NFL team, the quotes surfaced in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch before continuing on to Detroit Free Press, the Washington Post, CNN , MSNBC, and many others. After Limbaugh denied and refuted the attribution, these outlets were forced to retract with several defending themselves by essentially saying, “everyone else was doing it.” Limbaugh was subsequently removed from the Rams bid. The Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto stated in response to the controversy “journalists . . . have not only done him wrong but have fallen short of the most basic professional standard.” Edit wars on WikiQuote resumed in light of the controversy and the fraudulent quotes were finally removed. The responsible party later joked about it on Wikipedia.

The Fake News Site Anyone Can Edit

Varying from the silly to the defamatory, Wikipedia’s reputation for hoaxes and false claims has haunted it since 2005 when journalist John Seigenthaler was falsely accused of being a suspect in the Kennedy assassinations. Hoaxes on the site have been able to last nearly a decade or more at times before being detected, lead to an entire set of hoax articles, get high honors after community review, and even end up as the basis for prizes in crowd-funded board games. Sites associated with Wikipedia, such as Wikidata, have had similar problems, such as when Wikidata vandals had First Lady Melania Trump labeled a “sex worker” on the site for a week. Citogenesis, where these hoaxes generate “reliable sources” to then cite on Wikipedia, remains a bigger threat to the reliability of information online than any Macedonian troll farm.

How a Raccoon Became an Aardvark

In July of 2008, Dylan Breves, then a seventeen-year-old student from New York City, made a mundane edit to a Wikipedia entry on the coati. The coati, a member of the raccoon family, is “also known as … a Brazilian aardvark,” Breves wrote. He did not cite a source for this nickname, and with good reason: he had invented it. He and his brother had spotted several coatis while on a trip to the Iguaçu Falls, in Brazil, where they had mistaken them for actual aardvarks.

“I don’t necessarily like being wrong about things,” Breves told me. “So, sort of as a joke, I slipped in the ‘also known as the Brazilian aardvark’ and then forgot about it for awhile.”

Adding a private gag to a public Wikipedia page is the kind of minor vandalism that regularly takes place on the crowdsourced Web site. When Breves made the change, he assumed that someone would catch the lack of citation and flag his edit for removal.

Over time, though, something strange happened: the nickname caught on. About a year later, Breves searched online for the phrase “Brazilian aardvark.” Not only was his edit still on Wikipedia, but his search brought up hundreds of other Web sites about coatis.

Politicians manipulating Wikipedia?

Several cases of politicians editing the entries about them have been reported. In Germany, the energy lobby has been accused of tweaking Wikipedia entries in order to "greenwash." Celebrities such as the US actor Lindsay Lohan have been declared dead.

A Wikipédia virou um site de ativismo esquerdista e um instrumento de grandes corporações. Ao passo que virou uma ferramenta de ataque a grupos e pessoas de direita (cristãos e pessoas anti-establishment também são atacados), a Wikipédia passou a proteger figuras, grupos e ideologias de esquerda, blindando e escondendo escândalos das biografias dos “grandiosos” esquerdistas. É uma máquina de assassinato de reputação, se forem checar os artigos sobre figuras mais “direitistas” como Danilo Gentili, Jordan Peterson ou Ben Shapiro (a versão inglesa de alguns é pior), a Wiki sempre promove uma abordagem depreciativa e tenta passar a pior imagem possível dos caras, tentando desidratar essas figuras ao máximo. 

Fora que qualquer pessoa pode editar os artigos da Wikipédia e criar suas próprios narrativas travestidas de abordagens isentas e formais, fingindo não ter viés algum.

Outros sites tem bem mais honestidade em seus artigos do que a porcaria da Wikipédia (e também é por isso que eles tem menos artigos, já que os textos são feitos com mais cuidado), não é à toa que até o Larry Sanger (co-fundador da Wikipédia) passou a criticar essa postura do site que formou.

Wikipedia’s “NPOV” is dead. 1 The original policy long since forgotten, Wikipedia no longer has an effective neutrality policy. There is a rewritten policy, but it endorses the utterly bankrupt canard that journalists should avoid what they call “false balance.” 2 The notion that we should avoid “false balance” is directly contradictory to the original neutrality policy. As a result, even as journalists turn to opinion and activism, Wikipedia now touts controversial points of view on politics, religion, and science. Here are some examples from each of these subjects, which were easy to find, no hunting around. Many, many more could be given.

Examples have become embarrassingly easy to find. The Barack Obama article completely fails to mention many well-known scandals: Benghazi, the IRS scandal, the AP phone records scandal, and Fast and Furious, to say nothing of Solyndra or the Hillary Clinton email server scandal—or, of course, the developing “Obamagate” story in which Obama was personally involved in surveilling Donald Trump. A fair article about a major political figure certainly must include the bad with the good. Beyond that, a neutral article must fairly represent competing views on the figure by the major parties.

This article weirdly claims, or implies, a thing that no serious Biblical scholar of any sort would claim, viz., that Jesus was not given the title “Christ” by the original Apostles in the New Testament.

Clearly, Wikipedia’s claims are tendentious if not false, and represent a point of view that many if not most Christians would rightly dispute.

It may seem more problematic to speak of the bias of scientific articles, because many people do not want to see “unscientific” views covered in encyclopedia articles. If such articles are “biased in favor of science,” some people naturally find that to be a feature, not a bug. The problem, though, is that scientists sometimes do not agree on which theories are and are not scientific. This point is perfectly obvious to anyone who actually follows any lively scientific debate at all closely. On such issues, the “scientific point of view” and the “objective point of view” according to the Establishment might be very much opposed to neutrality. So when certain people seem unified on a certain view of a scientific controversy, then that is the view that is taken for granted as the Establishment one, and often aggressively asserted, by Wikipedia.

The global warming  and MMR vaccine articles are examples; I hardly need to dive into these pages, since it is quite enough to say that they endorse definite positions that scientific minorities reject. Another example is how Wikipedia treats various topics in alternative medicine—often dismissively, and frequently labeled as “pseudoscience” in Wikipedia’s own voice. Indeed, Wikipedia defines the very term as follows: “Alternative medicine describes any practice that aims to achieve the healing effects of medicine, but which lacks biological plausibility and is untested, untestable or proven ineffective.” In all these cases, genuine neutrality requires a different sort of treatment.

It is time for Wikipedia to come clean and admit that it has abandoned NPOV (i.e., neutrality as a policy). At the very least they should admit that that they have redefined the term in a way that makes it utterly incompatible with its original notion of neutrality, which is the ordinary and common one.6 It might be better to embrace a “credibility” policy and admit that their notion of what is credible does, in fact, bias them against conservatism, traditional religiosity, and minority perspectives on science and medicine—to say nothing of many other topics on which Wikipedia has biases.

Of course, Wikipedians are unlikely to make any such change; they live in a fantasy world of their own making.

The world would be better served by an independent and decentralized encyclopedia network, such as I proposed with the Encyclosphere. We will certainly develop such a network, but if it is to remain fully independent of all governmental and big corporate interests, funds are naturally scarce and it will take time.
